SOHO/MDI magnetograms are used to analyze the time variations in the magnetic parameters of the active region (AR) NOAA 10486, which was part of a large activity complex that passed over the solar disk from October 26 to 31, 2003, during solar cycle 23. The results are compared with X-ray flares in the AR and the parameters of coronal mass ejections associated with the AR. The time variations in the distributions of themagnetic-field strengths associated with the total magnetic flux (Fa), the flux imbalance between the northern and southern polarities (Im), the complexity of the field, as a measure of the mutual overlapping of the opposite polarities (Co), and the tilt angle of the magnetic axis (An) are considered. The time variations in the free energy accumulated in current sheets of ARs were traced using a parameter introduced for this purpose (Sh). The following results were obtained. First, the parameters Fa, Im, Co, An, and Sh quantitatively describe the current state of the AR and can be used to trace and analyze the dynamical evolution of its magnetic field. Second, variations in the magnetic-field-strength distributions and the mean values of Fa, Im, Co, An, and Sh are associated with flares and coronal mass ejections, and the variations have considerable amplitudes. Third, the parameter Sh characterizing the degree to which the magnetic field is non-potential in regions adjacent to the main neutral line increases before eruptive events, and is thus particular interest for monitoring the states of ARs in real time. Fourth, the magnetic field of the AR manifests a sort of quasi-elasticity, so that the field structure is restored after active events, on average, within 1–3 h. 相似文献

RATAN-600 observations of a microwave source located above the active region NOAA 10105 obtained on September 7–20, 2002 with a frequency resolution of ~10% have revealed a spectral feature near 3.04 cm that can be interpreted as a neutral hydrogen line. This feature was observed September 11, 2002, in both absorption and emission, and was detected in the spectra of various portions of the source (sunspot, flocculus, and background). The maximum line depth of (35 ± 5)% of the source brightness was observed at the start of the observations (9.2h UT) in the flocculus in absorption. The line intensity decreased rapidly with time, becoming less than the measurement errors by 9.7h UT. It is most likely that the 3.04 cm emission is related to a 2B chromospheric flare (M2.2 X-ray burst) observed at ~7.5h UT in the floccular field, near the main sunspot of NOAA 10105. In this case, the total duration of the event was about two hours. These observations are consistent with earlier statistical studies, and refines these based on data with higher spatial resolution. Recommendations for further observational studies of the solar 3.04-cm hydrogen line are presented; requirements for theories of the 3.04 cm line taking into account nonequilibrium states of the active-region plasma are indicated. 相似文献

We study the active region NOAA 9591 using observations at 1.92–10.17 cm obtained on two large Russian radio instruments: the RATAN-600 radio telescope and the Siberian Solar Radio Telescope. The active region was associated with an isolated spot at the photospheric level, whose magnetic field had a well-defined Delta configuration. The radio observations show that the structure of the coronal source located above the spot cannot be described in a simple (unipolar) cyclotron model. A comparison with X-ray observations indicates that the three-dimensional structure of the corona above the spot can be represented as a strongly elongated loop whose apex resembles a cusp brightening (a qualitative model for the structure is presented). Unexpectedly, radiation with a high degree of polarization (~25%) was detected far (~100 000 km) from the photosphere. The need for a quantitative model for coronal sources above the strong Delta-configuration magnetic fields, which are known to play an important role in active solar processes (flares, phenomena such as coronal-mass ejections) is outlined. Thanks to its simple morphology, which enabled the identification of a pure Delta configuration, the active region NOAA 9591 provides high-quality observational material for the creation of such a model. 相似文献

Regularities have been searched for in the dynamics of characteristics of flare solar radiation during the development of the active region NOAA 0069 in the interval of August 14–24, 2002. The SONG (Solar Neutrons and Gamma rays) instrument onboard the Russian CORONAS-F Solar Observatory recorded hard X-ray and gamma-ray radiation in nine of the 30 flares of class above C5 in this active region within the indicated time interval. It was obtained that, in accordance with the development of the active region, the X- and gamma-ray flux tended to increase at the flare maxima while the hard X-ray spectral index tended to decrease; flares with a harder radiation spectrum occurred in the sunspot umbra, i.e., in the region with the strongest magnetic fields. 相似文献

Measurements of frequency fluctuations in radio signals generated by the GALILEO spacecraft from January 6 to 11, 1997 are presented and analyzed. The passage of a coronal mass ejection observed by the SOHO/LASCO coronagraph on January 6, 1997 through the radio-communication path between the spacecraft and a ground station was recorded. Radio sounding was carried out at a carrier frequency of 2295 MHz at a heliocentric distance of about 32 solar radii, with the signal being received at three ground stations. As the mass ejection intersected the propagation path, the mean frequency of the signal increased and several-hour-long frequency fluctuations were enhanced. A spectral analysis of the frequency fluctuations shows that the regime and level of plasma turbulence are substantially different in different sections of the quiet solar wind and the disturbed plasmoid. A correlation between the intensity and temporal spectrum of the frequency fluctuations is found. The plasma density in the leading part of the coronal mass ejection exceeds the mean background value by more than an order of magnitude. Our correlation analysis of the frequency fluctuations recorded simultaneously at two widely separated measuring points shows that two flow components with different velocities—the quiet solar wind and a perturbed stream—crossed the communication path. The radio-sounding data are compared with observations of the coronal mass ejection by the SOHO/LASCO coronagraph and plasma measurements near the Earth’s orbit using the WIND satellite. A pronounced correlation is found between the variations in the mean frequency of the sounding signal and the plasma density in near-Earth space. 相似文献

Observations of the active region AR 7962 obtained at 2–32 cm on the RATAN-600 radio telescope on May 10–12, 1996, are presented. The high-resolution measurements detected a narrow feature near 8.5 cm against the background of the smooth spectrum of the local source associated with sunspots. This narrow-band emission is identified with a bright, pointlike, high-frequency source at 1.7 cm recorded on maps made using the Nobeyama radio telescope. The characteristics of the observed line (lifetime 3 days, brightness temperature of the order of several million Kelvin, relative width of about 10%) suggest that it can be explained as thermal cyclotron radiation at the third harmonic of the electron gyrofrequency from a compact source containing a dense, hot plasma; the corresponding higher frequency emission could be due to thermal Bremsstrahlung. Analysis of the RATAN-600 and Nobeyama data can be used to probe the magnetic field, kinetic temperature, and electron density in the radiation source in the corona. 相似文献

Halmahera is situated in eastern Indonesia at the southwest corner of the Philippine Sea Plate. Active arc-arc collision is in process in the Molucca Sea to the west of Halmahera. New stratigraphic observations from Halmahera link this island and the east Philippines and record the history of subduction of the Molucca Sea lithosphere. The Halmahera Basement Complex and the basement of east Mindanao were part of an arc and forearc of Late Cretaceous-Early Tertiary age and have formed part of a single plate since the Late Eocene-Early Oligocene. There is no evidence that Halmahera formed part of an Oligo-Miocene arc but arc volcanism, associated with eastwards subduction of the Molucca Sea beneath Halmahera, began in the Pliocene and the Pliocene arc is built on a basement of the early Tertiary arc. Arc volcanism ceased briefly during the Pleistocene and the arc shifted westwards after an episode of deformation. The present active arc is built upon deformed rocks of the Pliocene arc. The combination of new stratigraphic information from the Halmahera islands and models of the present-day tectonic structure of the region deduced from seismic and other geophysical studies is used to constrain the tectonic evolution of the region since the Miocene. Diachronous collision at the western edge of the Philippine Sea Plate which began in Mindanao in the Late Miocene impeded the movement of the Philippine Sea Plate and further motion has been achieved by a combination of strike-slip motion along the Philippine Fault, subduction at the Philippine Trench and subduction of the Molucca Sea lithosphere beneath Halmahera. 相似文献

The Uummannaq region is a mosaic of glacial landsystems, consistent with hypothesized landscape distribution resulting from variations in subglacial thermal regime. The region is dominated by selective linear erosion that has spatially and altitudinally partitioned the landscape. Low altitude areas are dominated by glacial scour and higher elevations are dominated by plateaux or mountain valley and cirque glaciers. The appearance and nature of each landscape type varies locally with altitude and latitude, as a function of bedrock geology and average glacial conditions. Selective linear erosion has been a primary control on landscape distribution throughout Uummannaq, leading to plateau formation and the growth of a coalescent fjord system in the Uummannaq region. This has allowed the development of the Uummannaq ice stream's (UIS) onset zone during glacial periods. Fjord development has been enhanced by a downstream change in geology to less‐resistant lithologies, increasing erosional efficiency and allowing a single glacial channel to develop, encouraging glacier convergence and the initiation of ice streaming. The landscape has been affected by several periods of regional uplift from 33 Ma to present, and has been subject to subsequent fluvial and glacial erosion. Uplift has removed surfaces from the impact of widespread warm‐based glaciation, leaving them as relict landsurfaces. The result of this is a regional altitude‐dependent continuum of glacial modification, with extreme differences in erosion between high and low elevation surfaces. This study indicates that processes of long‐term uplift, glacial erosion/protection and spatial variability in erosion intensity have produced a highly partitioned landscape. 相似文献

Most of previous models suggest that the Central Asia Orogenic Belt grew southward in the Phanerozoic. However, in the Bayanhongor region in west-central Mongolia, volcanic arc, accretionary prism, ophiolite, and passive margin complexes accreted northeastward away from the Baydrag micro-continent, and hence the region constitutes the southwestern part of a crustal-scale syntaxis close to the west. The syntaxis should be original, because presumably reorientation due to strike-slip faulting can be ignored. It is reconfirmed that the Baydrag eventually collided with another micro-continent (the Hangai) to the northeast. A thick sedimentary basin developed along the southern passive margin of the Hangai micro-continent. This region is also characterized by an exhumed metamorphosed accretionary complex and a passive margin complex, which are both bounded by detachment faults as well as basal reverse faults which formed simultaneously as extrusion wedges. This part of the Central Asia Orogenic Belt lacks exhumed crystalline rocks as observed in the Himalayas and other major collisional orogenic belts. In addition, we identified two phases of deformation, which occurred at each phase of zonal accretion as D1 through Cambrian and Devonian, and a synchronous phase of final micro-continental collision of Devonian as D2. The pre-collisional ocean was wide enough to be characterized by a mid-ocean ridge and ocean islands. Two different structural trends of D1 and D2 are observed in accretionary complexes formed to the southwest of the late Cambrian mid-ocean ridge. That is, the relative plate motions on both sides of the mid-ocean ridge were different. Accretionary complexes and passive margin sediments to the northeast of the mid-ocean ridge also experienced two periods of deformation but show the same structural trend. Unmetamorphosed cover sediments on the accretionary prism and on the Hangai micro-continent experienced only the D2 event due to micro-continental collision. These unmetamorphosed sediments form the hanging walls of the detachment faults. Moreover, they were at least partly derived from an active volcanic arc formed at the margin of the Baydrag micro-continent. 相似文献

Major hypotheses on the formation of the Iceland region are considered. It is noted that plate- and plume-tectonic genesis
is the most substantiated hypothesis for this region. Model estimations of the effect of hot plume on the formation of genetically
different oceanic ridges are obtained. Computer calculations are performed for the thermal subsidence rate of aseismic ridges
(Ninetyeast and Hawaiian-Emperor) in the asthenosphere of the Indian and Pacific oceans. Comparative analysis of the calculated
subsidence rates of these ridges with those in the Iceland region (Reykjanes and Kolbeinsey ridges) is performed. The results
suggest that the thermophysical processes of formation of the spreading Reykjanes and Kolbeinsey ridges were similar to those
of the aseismic Ninetyeast and Hawaiian-Emperor ridges: the genesis of all these ridges is related to the functioning of a
hotspot. Analysis of the heat flux distribution in the Iceland Island and Hawaiian Rise areas is carried out. Analysis and
numerical calculations indicate that the genesis of Iceland was initially characterized by the plume-tectonic transformation
of a continental rather than oceanic lithosphere. The level of geothermal regime near Iceland was two times higher (100 mW/m2) relative to the Hawaiian Rise area (50 mW/m2) because the average lithosphere thickness of the Reykjanes and Kolbeinsey ridges near the Iceland was approximately two
times less (40 km) relative to the thickness of the Pacific Plate (80 km) in the Hawaiian area. The main stages of evolution
of the Iceland region are based on geological and geothermal data and numerical thermophysical modeling. The Cenozoic tectonic
evolution of the region is considered. Paleogeodynamic reconstructions of the North Atlantic in the hotspot system at 60,

In this paper, we collect, categorize, and discuss the existence of numerous ways of knowing about tornado threat that largely differ from the perspective taken by the meteorological community. These alternate ways of knowing became apparent during interviews with survivors of the 27 April 2011 tornado outbreak in the US southeast, particularly in Alabama and Mississippi. Phenomena discussed herein include perceptions of safety near waterways, vulnerability near a specific highway with a recently modified landscape, the protective nature of hills, relative optimism about home sites, and local observational weather knowledge. Theoretical explanations offered for these observed phenomena include ideas from risk perception and place attachment literatures. 相似文献

We investigate the nature of bright radio sources with known radio spectra in the direction of the nearby cluster of galaxies A569 (z=0.0193). The optical identifications of the sources show that 45% of these radio sources are associated with compact galaxies. A substantial fraction of these galaxies have active nuclei, with the radio emission concentrated toward the galactic center. Some of the cluster galaxies have radio halos, with appreciably weaker radio powers and spectral indices α=0.95±0.2. We compute the magnetic fields in the nuclei and halos of the galaxies for the adopted distance to A569. As expected, the magnetic fields in the galactic halos make a smooth transition to the intergalactic field, while the magnetic fields in the central regions of the galaxies rise sharply toward the nucleus. 相似文献
