REE geochemistry of some alkali-rich intrusive rocks in China   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Based on the REE analyses of about 300 samples from 40 alkali-rich intrusive rocks, a systematic study on the features of REE composition was made, and the major factors controlling the REE distribution are discussed. According to REE, trace elements composition and Sr, Nd isotopic characteristics, the source materials and petrogenetic process of the alkali-rich intrusive rocks were studied. The petrogenetic models of Zijinshan, Sairna, Nianzishan and Shanhaiguan alkali-rich intrusive rocks were calculated using multisequence fractional crystallization and assimilation fractional crystallization models. Abstract Whole‐rock chemical and Sr and Nd isotope data are presented for gabbroic and dioritic rocks from a Cretaceous‐Paleogene granitic terrain in Southwest Japan. Age data indicate that they were emplaced in the late Cretaceous during the early stages of a voluminous intermediate‐felsic magmatic episode in Southwest Japan. Although these gabbroic and dioritic rocks have similar major and trace element chemistry, they show regional variations in terms of initial Sr and Nd isotope ratios. Samples from the South Zone have high initial 87Sr/86Sr (0.7063–0.7076) and low initial Nd isotope ratios (?Nd, ?2.5 to ?5.3); whereas those from the North Zone have lower initial 87Sr/86Sr (usually less than 0.7060) and higher Nd isotope ratios (?Nd, ?0.8 to + 3.3). Regional variations in Sr and Nd isotope ratios are similar to those observed in granitic rocks, although gabbroic and dioritic rocks tend to have slightly lower Sr and higher Nd isotope ratios than granitic rocks in the respective zones. Limited variations in Sr and Nd isotope ratios among samples from individual zones may be attributed partly to a combination of upper crustal contamination and heterogeneity of the magma source. Contamination of magmas by upper crustal material cannot, however, explain the observed Sr and Nd isotope variations between samples from the North and South Zones. Between‐zone variations would reflect geochemical difference in magma sources. The gabbroic and dioritic rocks are enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILE) and depleted in high field strength elements (HFSE), showing similar normal‐type mid‐ocean ridge basalt (N‐MORB) normalized patterns to arc magmas. Geochronological and isotopic data may suggest that some gabbroic and dioritic rocks are genetically related to high magnesian andesite. Alternatively, mantle‐derived mafic or intermediate rocks which were underplated beneath the crust may be also plausible sources for gabbroic and dioritic rocks. The magma sources (the mantle wedge and lower crust) were isotopically more enriched beneath the South Zone than the North Zone during the Cretaceous‐Paleogene. Sr and Nd isotope ratios of the lower crustal source of the granitic rocks was isotopically affected by mantle‐derived magmas, resulting in similar initial Sr and Nd isotope ratios for gabbroic, dioritic and granitic rocks in each zone.  相似文献

Neodymium isotope and REE analyses of recent volcanic rocks and spinel lherzolite nodules from the Afar area are reported. The143Nd/144Nd ratios of the volcanic rocks range from 0.51286 to 0.51304, similar to the range recorded from Iceland. However, the87Sr/86Sr ratios display a distinctly greater range (0.70328–0.70410) than those reported from the primitive rocks of Iceland. Whole rock samples and mineral separates from the spinel lherzolite nodules exhibit uniform143Nd/144Nd ratios (ca. 0.5129) but varied87Sr/86Sr ratios in the range 0.70427–0.70528.The SrNd isotope variations suggest that the volcanic rocks may have been produced by mixing between two reservoirs with distinct isotopic compositions. Two possible magma reservoirs in this area are the source which produced the “MORB-type” volcanics in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden and the anomalous source represented by the nodule suite. The isotopic composition of the volcanics is compatible with mixing between these two reservoirs. It is shown that the anomalous source with a high87Sr/86Sr ratio cannot have been produced by simple processes of partial melting and mixing within normal mantle. Instead the high87Sr/86Sr is equated with a fluid phase. A primitive cognate fluid, subducted seawater or altered oceanic lithosphere may have been responsible for the generation of the source with a high87Sr/86Sr ratio.  相似文献

Abstract Rb–Sr and Sm–Nd isochron ages were determined for whole rocks and mineral separates of hornblende‐gabbros and related metadiabases and quartz‐diorite from Shodoshima, Awashima and Kajishima islands in the Ryoke plutono‐metamorphic belt of the Setouchi area, Southwest Japan. The Rb–Sr and Sm–Nd whole‐rock‐mineral isochron ages for six samples range from 75 to 110 Ma and 200–220 Ma, respectively. The former ages are comparable with the Rb–Sr whole‐rock isochron ages reported from neighboring Ryoke granitic rocks and are thus due to thermal metamorphism caused by the granitic intrusions. On the contrary, the older ages suggest the time of formation of the gabbroic and related rocks. The initial 87Sr/86Sr and 143Nd/144Nd ratios of the gabbroic rocks (0.7070–0.7078 and 0.51217–0.51231 at 210 Ma, respectively) are comparable with those of neighboring late Cretaceous granites and lower crustal granulite xenoliths from Cenozoic andesites in this region. Because the gabbroic rocks are considered to be fragments of the lower crustal materials interlayered in the granulitic lower crust, their isotopic signature has been inherited from an enriched mantle source or, less likely, acquired through interaction with the lower crustal materials. The Sr and Nd isotopic and petrologic evidence leads to a plausible conclusion that the gabbroic rocks have formed as cumulates from hydrous mafic magmas of light rare earth element‐rich (Sm/Nd < 0.233) and enriched isotopic (?Sr > 0 and ?Nd < 0) signature, which possibly generated around 220–200 Ma by partial melting of an upper mantle. We further conclude that they are fragments of refractory material from the lower crust caught up as xenoblocks by granitic magmas, the latter having been generated by partial melting of granulitic lower crustal material around 100 Ma.  相似文献

The XV mafic-ultramafic intrusion is located in the western part of the Posht-e-Badam Block (PBB) within the Central Iranian Micro-Continent (CIMC). Petrographically, the intrusion is composed of gabbro and pyroxenite. Apatite U–Pb dating has established the crystallization age of this intrusion to be 363 ± 67 Ma. The XV intrusive rocks are tholeiitic to slightly calc-alkaline in nature and are characterized by an enrichment of large ion lithophile elements (LILE) and light rare earth elements (LREE) relative to high field strength elements (HFSE) and Heavy Rare Earth Elements (HREE), respectively. The major oxide elements display continuous trends relative to SiO2. The 87Sr/86Sr(i) ratios range from 0.7045 to 0.7056, and the εNd(i) values range from 2.63 to 3.30. In addition, the 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb, and 208Pb/204Pb ratios exhibit a narrow range, varying from 18.68 to 18.70, 15.67 to 15.71, and 38.84 to 38.99, respectively. The geochemical and isotopic characteristics suggest that the parental magma was derived from a Sub- Continental Lithospheric Mantle (SCLM) that was modified by oceanic slab-derived components. The locations of the XV intrusive rocks in εNd(i) versus TDM (Ga) and Nb/La versus discrimination diagrams further support this conclusion. Fractional crystallization is identified as the dominant process influencing the formation of distinct lithological units within the XV intrusive rocks. Our newly presented isotopic and geochronological data, when considered in the regional context, suggest that the XV intrusive rocks were formed in an extensional tectonic setting. In this scenario, upwelling from the asthenospheric mantle induced heating, leading to the melting of previously subduction-modified SCLM. Comparative analysis with previously published ages indicates that extensional magmatism in the PBB continued into the Middle Paleozoic.  相似文献

Many of the Yanshannian intermediate-acid intrusive rocks related to Cu-Au mineralization in the Eastern Yangtze Block are characterized by high Al2O3, Sr contents, while low in Y, Yb contents, thus with high Sr/Y, and La/Yb ratios, and variational isotope signatures in particular, e.g. εNd(t) = ?11.92–1.96, (143Nd/144Nd)i = 0.5120–0.5125, TDM = 0.70–1.71 Ga, (87Sr/86Sr)i = 0.7043 –0.7076. The geochemical characteristics of these rocks suggest that: (1) these rocks are geochemically similar to adakite, which might have been stemmed from the partial melting of thickened basaltic lower crust due to basalt underplating; and (2) the high pressure (1.2–4.0 GPa) and high temperature (850–1150°C) surroundings of the lower crust favor both the fluid and adakite-like magma to generation. Not only can the adakite-like magma carry abundant fluid and Cu-Au ore-froming materials, but also can it bring them to the shallow part with ease and contributes to the Cu-Au mineralization.  相似文献

Nd and Sr isotopic data on pargasite Iherzolite inclusions, kaersutite megacrysts and their host alkali basalts are presented here to clarify some questions regarding isotopic equilibration during mantle metasomatism and the role of metasomatism in basalt genesis. Five alkali basalts from Nunivak Island within the Aleutian back-arc basin, have87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.70251–0.70330 and143Nd/144Nd ratios of 0.51289–0.51304. On a Nd versus Sr isotope composition diagram the basalts overlap the fields of MORB and ocean island basalts. Pargasites and mica separated from hydrous nodules found in these basalts have a range in87Sr/86Sr of 0.70256–0.70337 but identical143Nd/144Nd ratios of 0.51302. The metasomatic fluid represented by the pargasite is in isotopic equilibrium, both for Sr and Nd, with the dry mantle as represented by diopside. Eight alkali basalts from the Ataq diatreme, South Yemen, have87Sr/86Sr range of 0.70335–0.70426 and143Nd/144Nd range of 0.51252–0.51305. On a Nd versus Sr isotope composition diagram the basalts from Ataq plot in two distinct fields, (1) within the field of ocean island basalts, and (2) within the range of continental rift basalts but to the left of the Nd-Sr correlation line, somewhat similar to the Skye and Oslo rift basalts. Diopside and pargasite separated from three nodules at Ataq have a more complex history than those at Nunivak. Two nodules contain pargasite and diopside with identical87Sr/86Sr ratios but different143Nd/144Nd ratios. A third nodule contains diopside with a143Nd/144Nd ratio similar to that of other diopsides. The Nunivak basalts are derived from a source with a time-integrated light-REE depletion, in contrast to the light-REE-enriched nature of the basanites. This is best explained by a recent metasomatic event in the source region which increased the LIL element content of the peridotite thus accommodating higher degrees of melting. The Ataq volcanic rocks seem to tap different sources characterized by both light-REE enrichment and depletion, in contrast to the uniform source of the Nunivak basanites. Production of the Ataq basanites is believed to involve anataxis of metasomatically veined continental mantle where local mantle heterogeneities survived the melting event.  相似文献

Initial87Sr/86Sr ratios have been determined for a representative suite of Upper Cretaceous granodiorites and associated rocks from the Above Rocks composite stock in central Jamaica and the Terre-Neuve pluton in northwestern Haiti. The average initial87Sr/86Sr ratio for severn samples of the Terre-Neuve intrusion is 0.7036, with a range of 0.7026–0.7047. For two samples of the Above Rocks the initial ratios are 0.7033 and 0.7034. A third sample from this intrusive has an initial ratio of 0.7084, which is tenatively attributed to contamination. The initial87Sr/86Sr ratios indicate that neither ancient sialic crust nor sediments carried down a Benioff zone can be the primary source of the granodioritic magma. K/Rb ratios for these rocks range from 178 to 247, which are much lower than the average values (≥1000) for tholeiitic basalts. It is concluded that the magmas originated primarily by melting of downthrust oceanic crust or adjacent mantle material.  相似文献

Purico-Chascon is an acid igneous complex less than 1.5 Ma old rising to 5800 m in the North Chilean Andes, and consisting of andesite-dacite cones and dacite domes on an ignimbrite shield. The rocks are subdivided into two groups: those from Chascon appear to exhibit evidence for magma mixing with more basic material now preserved as xenoliths, whereas among those at Purico no xenoliths have been found.87Sr/86Sr=0.7095?0.7081 at Purico, 0.7079?0.7069 at Chascon, and 0.7061-0.7057 in the xenoliths from the Chascon lavas:143Nd/144Nd=0.51222?0.51236 overall. The Purico lavas are characterised by higher SiO2, Rb/Sr,87Sr/86Sr, and REE abundances, and lower Sr/Nd, Sr/Ba and143Nd/144Nd than most Andean igneous suites. There is no indication ofselective crustal contamination of Sr, or any systematic change in isotope ratios during differentiation. Nonetheless the trend of, for example, high Sr/Nd and Sr contents in rocks with low87Sr/86Sr (0.704, Ecuador) to low Sr/Nd and Sr and high SiO2 in rocks with87Sr/86Sr=0.7081?0.7095 at Purico is interpreted as a shift from subduction zone related magmatism to one with greater crustal affinity. The formation of the least evolved Purico lavas (~60%SiO2) is discussed in terms of bulk assimilation of crustal material, mixing between crustal- and mantle-derived magmas, and partial melting of pre-existing crust. Although such models are still extremely primitive, the simplest explanation of the observed chemical variations is that the Purico rocks evolved from parental magmas derived by crustal anatexies. Thermal considerations suggest that such late-stage crustal anatexis is a predictable response to crustal thickening which in the Andes is thought to have taken place during the Cenozoic.  相似文献

The lavas produced by the Timanfaya eruption of 1730–1736 (Lanzarote, Canary Islands) contain a great many sedimentary and metamorphic (metasedimentary), and mafic and ultramafic plutonic xenoliths. Among the metamorphosed carbonate rocks (calc-silicate rocks [CSRs]) are monomineral rocks with forsterite or wollastonite, as well as rocks containing olivine ± orthopyroxene ± clinopyroxene ± plagioclase; their mineralogical compositions are identical to those of the mafic (gabbros) and ultramafic (dunite, wherlite and lherzolite) xenoliths. The 87Sr/86Sr (around 0.703) and 143Nd/144Nd (around 0.512) isotope ratios of the ultramafic and metasedimentary xenoliths are similar, while the 147Sm/144Nd ratios show crustal values (0.13–0.16) in the ultramafic xenoliths and mantle values (0.18–0.25) in some CSRs. The apparent isotopic anomaly of the metamorphic xenoliths can be explained in terms of the heat source (basaltic intrusion) inducing strong isotopic exchange (87Sr/86Sr and 143Nd/144Nd) between metasedimentary and basaltic rocks. Petrofabric analysis also showed a possible relationship between the ultramafic and metamorphic xenoliths.  相似文献

Strontium, neodymium isotopic compositions and trace elements of the detrital sediments of Core NS90-103 from South China Sea were analyzed. The results show that the87Sr/86Sr ratios of the detritus during the last glacial range from 0.722 4 to 0.723 0. They are significantly higher than those during the Holocene and the maximum of the last interglacial, which range from 0.721 0 to 0.721 7. This indicates stronger continental weathering during the last glacial. On the other hand, the143Nd/144Nd ratios of these detritus are higher during the last glacial too, similar to the variation of the87Sr/86Sr ratios. The trace element geochemistry of these detritus indicates that more authigenic sediments, such as ferromanganese, during the last glacial may partly contribute to the increase of143Nd/144Nd ratios. Furthermore, much more detritus from continent of South China to the north of the South China Sea may probably contribute to143Nd/144Nd ratios increase during the last glacial, which was the result of the enhancement of northeast monsoon.  相似文献

The strontium isotopic geochemistry is given for three Puerto Rican intrusive rocks: the granodioritic Morovis and San Lorenzo plutons and the Rio Blanco stock of quartz dioritic composition. The average calculated initial87Sr/86Sr ratios are 0.70370, 0.70355 and 0.70408, respectively. In addition, the San Lorenzo data establish a whole-rock isochron of71 ± 2m.y., which agrees with the previously reported K-Ar age of 73 m.y. Similarity of most of the intrusive rocks in the Greater Antilles with respect to their strontium isotopic geochemistry regardless of their major element composition indicates that intrusive magmas with a wide range of composition can be derived from a single source material. The most likely source material, in view of the available isotopic data, is the mantle wedge overlying the subduction zone.  相似文献

87Sr/86Sr and143Nd/144Nd ratios, REE and selected minor and trace elements are presented and compared for present-day volcanic rocks in the Scotia Sea.Tholeiitic basalts from the South Sandwich Islands show widely ranging contents of some lithophile elements, e.g. K2O (0.09–0.55%) and Rb (1.55–14.2 ppm), but fairly constant Na2O and Sr. Total REE contents range from about 4–20 times chondritic abundances with significant light-REE depletion and both positive and negative Eu anomalies. The variations in minor and trace element abundances are consistent with low-pressure fractional crystallization of plagioclase and clinopyroxene but only minor amounts of olivine. The87Sr/86Sr and143Nd/144Nd ratios of the parental magmas are thought be 0.7038–0.7039 and 0.51301–0.51314 respectively, and indicate derivation of at least some87Sr from subducted ocean crust. The back-arc tholeiites in the Scotia Sea have lower87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.7028–0.7033), similar143Nd/144Nd ratios (0.51305) and are variably light-REE-enriched(CeN/YbN= 1.0–1.6). Total REE contents are comparable to those of the South Sandwich Islands tholeiites.  相似文献

Abstract We present chemical and Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic compositions of three Triassic (226–241 Ma) calc‐alkaline granitoids (the Yeongdeok granite, Yeonghae diorite and Cheongsong granodiorite) and basement rocks in the northern Gyeongsang basin, south‐eastern Korea. These plutons exhibit typical geochemical characteristics of I‐type granitoids generated in a continental magmatic arc. The Yeongdeok and Yeonghae plutons have similar initial Sr, Nd and Pb isotope ratios (87Sr/86Srinitial = 0.7041 ~ 0.7050, ?Nd(t) = 2.3 ~ 4.0, 206Pb/204Pbfeldspar = 18.22 ~ 18.34), but distinct rare earth element patterns, suggesting that the two plutons formed from partial melting of a similar source material at different depths. The Cheongsong pluton has slightly more enriched Sr–Nd–Pb isotopic compositions (87Sr/86Srinitial = 0.7047 ~ 0.7065, ?Nd(t) = 3.9 ~ 2.8, 206Pb/204Pbfeldspar = 18.24 ~ 18.37) than the other two plutons. The Nd model ages of the basement rocks (1.1 ~ 1.4 Ga) are slightly older than those of the plutons (0.6 ~ 1.0 Ga). The initial Sr and Nd isotopic ratios of the plutons can be modeled by the mixing between the mid‐oceanic ridge basalt‐like depleted mantle component and the crustal component represented by basement rocks, which is also supported by Pb isotope data. The Sr and Nd isotope data from granitoids and basement rocks suggest that the Gyeongsang basin, the Hida belt and the inner zone of south‐western Japan share relatively young basement histories (middle Proterozoic), compared with those (early Proterozoic to Archean) of the Gyeonggi and Yeongnam massifs and the Okcheon belt. The Nd isotope data of basement rocks suggest that the Hida belt might be better correlated with the basement of the Gyeongsang basin than the Gyeonggi massif, the Okcheon belt or the Yeongnam massif, although it may represent an older continental margin of East Asia than the Gyeongsang basin considering its slightly older Nd model ages.  相似文献

A simple mixing process was a significant element in the genesis of many southeastern Australian granitic rocks: major and trace element abundances are near-linearly correlated, Nd and Sr initial isotopic compositions define a simple hyperbolic trend, and many initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios are a regular function of Rb/Sr ratios. Geological arguments and regression of geochemical variation diagrams place limits on the nature of the end members. The high-Si end member is meta-sedimentary-derived magma comparable in composition to the Cooma Granodiorite, the one pluton in the region surrounded by, and clearly derived from, regional metamorphic rocks. The low-Si end member is basaltic material with similarities to rare gabbros also found in the area. Isotope dilution calculations based upon initial Sr and Nd isotopic compositions deduced for the end members yield realistic hypothetical Sr and Nd concentrations for the end members in a demonstration of the internal consistency of the model. All of the granitic rocks, from hornblende tonalites to cordierite granodiorites, are a single broad family, products of variable mixing between distinct batches of basaltic material and a uniform partial melt of the regional basement.  相似文献

143Nd/144Nd,87Sr/86Sr and REE results are reported on volcanic rocks from the islands of Dominica and St. Kitts in the Lesser Antilles. Particular attention is given to the lavas and xenoliths of the Foundland (basalt-andesite) and the Plat Pays (andesite-dacite) volcanic centres on Dominica. Combined major and trace element [2] and isotope results suggest that the bulk of the andesites and dacites on Dominica, and by analogy in the rest of the arc, are produced by fractional crystallisation of basaltic magma. The differences in the erupted products of the two volcanoes do not appear to be related to any significant differences in the source rocks of the magmas.Along the arc87Sr/86Sr ratios range from 0.7037 on St. Kitts, to 0.7041–0.7047 on Dominica, and 0.7039–0.7058 on Grenada [5], and these are accompanied by a parallel increase in K, Sr, Ba and the light REE's. Moreover, compared with LIL-element-enriched and -depleted rocks from MOR and intraplate environments, the basic rocks from the Lesser Antilles are preferentially enriched in alkaline elements (K, Ba, Rb, Sr) relative to less mobile elements such as the rare earths.143Nd/144Nd varies from 0.51308 on St. Kitts, to 0.51286 on Dominica, and 0.51264–0.51308 on Grenada [5], and all these samples have relatively high87Sr/86Sr ratios compared with the main trend of Nd and Sr isotopes for most mantle-derived volcanic rocks. Alkaline elements and87Sr appear to have been introduced from the subducted ocean crust, but the results on other, less mobile elements are more ambiguous — island arc tholeiites (as on St. Kitts) do not appear to contain significant amounts of REE's, Zr, Y, etc., from the subducted oceanic crust, but such a contribution may be present in more LIL-element-enriched calc-alkaline rock types.  相似文献

Nd and Sr isotope determinations on late Precambrian to early Palaeozoic igneous and sedimentary rocks from the Arabian Shield are used to investigate the proportion of reworked “older” crust, and the rate at which new crust was generated during the Pan African event. Eight Rb/Sr whole rock isochrons on igneous suites yield ages in the range 770?590 Ma and initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.7038?0.7023. These data confirm that magmatism in this area was largely restricted to the period 850-550 Ma, and the initial ratios are sufficiently low to preclude significant contributions from a long-lived upper crustal source. The initial 143Nd/144Nd ratios of a variety of lithologies, including several samples of possible “basement”, are all higher than the contemporaneous values for CHUR (εNd = +1.6 to +6.9), suggesting that many were derived directly from the upper mantle, and that any inferred crustal source regions for the remainder could not have separated from likely LREE-depleted mantle reservoirs before 1200 Ma. The Arabian Shield therefore provides an example of rapid crustal growth during the Late Proterozoic, and contrasts with the Damara intracratonic belt of Namibia where Nd and Sr isotopes provide strong evidence for extensive reworking of older continental crust during the same period.  相似文献
