Moderate dispersion (25-35 Å mm–1) spectra were obtained from two carbon stars, V Cyg and WZ Cas, in a wide range of wavelengths (3400-6800 Å) with the echelle-spectrometer, ZEBRA, of the 6 m telescope and two-dimensional photon-counting system. Spectral feature identification was carried out from 3850 to 6200 Å. Most of the bands are due to C2, SiC2, and CN, however, particularly in WZ Cas, moderate atomic lines of the iron peak and s-process elements are also found. WZ Cas is a so-called lithium star, however, we have found no evidence for a strong line of Li. The spectra of V Cyg contain an emission line of H.  相似文献

Spectral scans of the coma of comet P/Crommelin 1818. I have been obtained in the wavelength range 3200–6500 Å. Strong emission features of CN(3883 Å) and C2 Swan bands (4695, 5165, and 5538 Å) have been identified. Some weak emission features of CH(3890 Å), C3(4050 Å), CN(4200 »), and C2 + CH(4358 ») were also detected. Sodium was found to be absent in this comet. An estimate of CN and C2 abundances has been made and their production rate have been derived.  相似文献

For representative sections of the solar UV spectrum ( 2765 Å– 2790 Å, 2765 Å– 2805 Å) the line density and the accuracy of wavelength positions of absorption features are derived as function of the spectral resolution. In low resolution spectrograms unresolved blends may shift intrinsic wavelength positions of absorption lines by amounts up to a few tenths of the spectral resolution.The results obtained for the solar spectrum are applied to the flux spectrogram of CMi.Guest Investigator in the BUSS Program jointly performed by the Space Research Laboratory, Utrecht, The Netherlands, and the NASA L. The photoelectric spectrophotometry of nine Be stars is performed. Their monochromatic absolute magnitudes derived in the wavelength range 3200–8000 Å are presented. The energy distribution curves obtained are calibrated for effective temperatures with the aid of the synthetic stellar atmospheres.  相似文献

Among the intensities, determined at about 200 wavelengths between 3000 and 4100 Å in the spectrum of the centre of the sun's disk (Houtgast, 1965), the 32 highest ones (windows) were plotted and compared with absolute intensities given by other authors.The intensities in between the Fraunhofer lines from 3600 to 4000 Å, as determined here for the first time with high dispersion, reveal a detailed picture of several absorption features, one of which can be attributed to a Balmer jump of 0.03, a value in accordance with that found for stars and in agreement with the strengths of the high Balmer lines.The much higher value of the Balmer jump for the sun, as quoted in literature, in reality refers to the total intensity jump between 4000 and 3600 Å, which is mainly due to the crowding of Fraunhofer lines.  相似文献

Strong increasing of the width and the depth of the secondary minimum of the light curve of V444 Cyg Wolf-Rayet eclipsing binary discovered by Cherepashchuk and Khaliullin (1973, 1975) from simultaneous narrow band continuum observations (4244–7512 Å) have been confirmed by new quasi-simultaneous UJK observations. This increasing of the width and the depth of the secondary minimum implies strong increasing of the radius of the extended atmosphere of the WN5 star with wavelength, which cannot be explained be the theory of homogeneous WR wind. These data can be understood in the model of WR wind proposed by Cherepashchuk et al. (1984). New data, supporting the reliability of the light curve solution for V444 Cyg of Cherepashchuk (1975) are presented.  相似文献

In this paper we study the far-UV as well as the UV spectrum of the spectroscopic binary system SZ Psc in the wavelength ranges 1235–1950 Å and 2710–3090 Å, respectively, from spectra obtained with the International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE). The UV spectrum of SZ Psc is mainly an emission spectrum. The short wavelength region includes emission lines formed from the low chromosphere to the transition region (e.g., Siiv,Civ, andNv) and also a deep and broad absorption line of Feii.The Mgii[1] resonance doublet at about 2800 Å presents a P Cygni profile and a multiple structure with two emission and two absorption satellite components. Computations of polarization and intensity of radiation from a unit stellar surface area are presented, as well as a study of the numerical characteristics of atmospheres — single-scattering albedo and the initial source function(), which define the polarization behaviour of atmospheres. The radiatively stable models of stellar atmospheres presented by Kuruczet al. (1974) and Kurucz (1979) have been used for calculations. Since the versus optical depth dependence is rather weak, it has been assumed that (=cost. With a fixed effective temperatureT eff maximum values of are characteristic of stars featuring the lowest surface gravity accelerationg. Among stars with radiatively stable atmospheres, maximum values of (=5000 Å) 0.4–0.6 are exhibited by supergiants withT eff=8000–20 000 K. The plot of () is characterized by discontinuities at the boundaries of spectral series for hydrogen and, sometimes, for helium. Maximum are attained in the Lyman region of =912–1200 Å, where can reach the value 0.7–0.9 for supergiants, this value being 0.3 for Main-Sequence stars. For stars withT eff 35 000 K, high values of also are attained for <912 Å. Within the infrared region, is always small because of bremsstrahlung absorption.A rapid growth of the source functionB with < typical for ultraviolet range (within the Wien part of spectrum), together with high values of results in the strong polarization of emission from a unit stellar surface element, sometimes exceeding the values for the case of a pure electron scattering. For longer wavelengths, where the limb-darkening coefficient is smaller, the plane of polarization abruptly turns 90° in the central parts of the visible stellar disk.  相似文献

On the basis of continuum energy distributions in the wavelength region 3200–11 000 Å, effective temperature for 14 Wolf-Rayet stars are estimated by comparing with Kurucz (1979) model atmospheres. We present the imaging polarimetry and photometry of Comet C/1996 Q1 (Tabur) obtained on October 10, 1996, with a two-channel focal reducer attached to the 2-m Pik Terskol Observatory telescope through blue (4430/44 Å) and red (6420/26 Å) continuum filters and through a 6620/59 Å filter that isolated the NH2(0.7.0) band. We analyze the 3600–9300 Å long-slit spectrograms of the comet taken on October 5–6, 1996, with the 2.6-m Crimean Astrophysical Observatory telescope. The NH2(0.8.0) 6408 Å emission and an unidentified 6428 Å emission were found to fall within the pass band of the red filter. The blue filter transmits weak unidentified emissions at 4424–4444 Å and partially C2(4360 Å). Correction for the depolarizing effect of molecular emissions resulted in an increase of the dust polarization by 2–4% in the near-nucleus region and by almost a factor of 2 in the outer coma regions. However, the polarization and color differences between different coma regions remained even after correction for the contribution of emissions. We found no dust polarization difference between the gas comet Tabur and the dust comet C/1988 A1 (Liller), which are believed to be fragments of a common parent comet. The NH2coma was found to be elongated perpendicular to the comet radius vector. The causes of the spatial asymmetry in the NH2molecular distribution are yet to be established. We study the evolution of activity and the spatial distribution of dust brightness, polarization, and color in the comet. We consider a taxonomic classification of gas and dust comets according to dust polarization properties. The polarization differences between dust and gas comets at large phase angles are most likely related both to the actual differences in dust and to the effect of molecular emissions, nuclear gas- and dust-production rates and to the evolution of grain properties with distance from the nucleus.  相似文献

The continuum energy distribution data of ten Be stars — namely, HR 1761, HR 1786, HR 1820, Ori, Ori, OT Gem, Lyr, HR 7983, Cyg, and 59 Cyg — have been presented in the wavelength range 3200–8000 Å. The observed energy distribution curve shows near infrared excess for majority of Be stars and a double Balmer jump for HR 8047 and HR 8146. Empirical effective temperatures of these stars have been estimated by comparing the observed continuum energy distributions with that of computed theoretical models given by Kurucz (1979).On the basis of an HR diagram with evolutionary tracks for different solar masses the masses of these Be stars have been estimated. Position of these studied stars on the HR diagram suggests that these Be stars may be in the stage of core contraction after exhausting hydrogen at the centre and have undergone hydrogen exhaustion in the thick shell.  相似文献

The continuum energy distribution data of seven Be and five normal B stars have been presented in the wavelength range 3200–8000 Å. Empirical effective temperatures of these stars have been derived by comparing the observed continuum energy distributions with the computed energy distributions given by Kurucz (1979). The effective temperatures of all observed be stars except KX And found here are in fair agreement with those of normal B stars. The Be stars KY And, EW Lac, and LQ And show normal continuum energy distributions over the whole observed wavelength range. The Be stars ES Vul and 6 Cyg show moderate near-infrared excess emission longward of 6000 Å.o And shows Balmer jump slightly in absorption and 6 Cyg shows slightly in emission. The variable nature of the Be stars has been discussed.The Be star KX And shows a peculiar type of continuum energy distribution. The continuum energy distribution of KX And has been discussed in relation to its binary nature.No excess or deficiency in the mean flux of normal B stars was detected.  相似文献

Some results of observations of the spectrum of the spectroscopic-binary Ap star CrB in the region of the lithium line Li I 6708Å are presented. The observations were made at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory over the period 1993–1995 with the coudé spectrograph equipped with a CCD camera on the 2.6-m telescope. Several factors which can affect the behavior of the lithium blend are examined: stellar rotation, magnetic field, isotopic shift, the binary system, and blending by unidentified elements. The principal result of this work is the detection of variability of the lithium blend Li I 6708Å over the period of rotation of the star. The variations of the radial velocity Vr, and the FWHM of the lithium blend are reported here for the first time. They indicate either a nonuniform distribution of lithium or a nonuniform distribution of conditions for excitation of the lithium resonance doublet in the complex structure of the strong surface magnetic field. Spectral scans of the head of periodic Comet Halley (1982i) have been presented in the optical region (3200–7000 Å) for six nights. Emission features due to NH, CN, CH, C3, C2 and NH2 molecules have been identified. It is found that the comet exhibits night-to-night variation of emission bands. The abundances and production rates of CN and C2 species have been derived.  相似文献

The coefficients of correlation between spectroscopic data published by Yamashita (1967) and others for carbon stars and the statistical population indices calculated for these stars at the Toru Observatory are calculated (Table II). The intensity estimates of Cai 4227 Å, Nai D lines, the C13/C12 ratio, then=n(Li/Ca) index, as well as CN and probably C2 bands are higher in population I carbon stars. The CH(G) band and probably hydrogen (H, H, H) lines as well as Baii 4554 and 4934 Å lines are stronger in population II carbon stars. The photoelectric colour indices, corrected for interstellar reddening do not show significant population effects. They can be used as spectral type equivalents. For a population criterion the CH/CN intensity ratio is proposed.  相似文献

Data on interstellar extinction are interpreted to imply an identification of interstellar grains with naturally freeze-dried bacteria and algae. The total mass of such bacterial and algal cells in the galaxy is enormous, 1040 g. The identification is based on Mie scattering calculations for an experimentally determined size distribution of bacteria. Agreement between our model calculations and astronomical data is remarkably precise over the wavelength intervals µ–1 < ;–2 < 1.94µ–1 and 2.5µ–1 < ;–1 < 3.0 ;–1. Over the more restricted waveband 4000–5000 Å an excess interstellar absorption is found which is in uncannily close agreement with the absorption properties of phytoplankton pigments. The strongest of the diffuse interstellar bands are provisionally assingned to carotenoid-chlorophyll pigment complexes such as exist in algae and pigmented bacteria. The 2200 Å interstellar absorption feature could be due to degraded cellulose strands which form spherical graphitic particles, but could equally well be due to protein-lipid-nucleic acid complexes in bacteria and viruses. Interstellar extinction at wavelengths <1800 Å could be due to scattering by virus particles.  相似文献

A strong correlation between the equivalent widths of the 2200 Å absorption band in the interstellar extinction curves and the colour excessesE B-V of the stars was found. The oscillator strength and the damping constant of the 2200 Å transition were estimated. From these findings some conclusions concerning the identification problem were drawn.  相似文献

The utility of very high dispersion spectra (5–11 mm/Å) for the study of line profile and velocity structure in quiescent prominences is demonstrated by observations, taken with the spectregraphic slit positioned normal to the limb in H 6563 Å, He D3 5876 Å, and Ca+K 3933 Å. The emission profiles of both H and the K line often show a central reversal (absorption). Emission structures in the K-line can be complex with details as narrow as 0.04 Å. Frequently this structure consists of two distinct components: a central, strong, rather narrow line, and an often displaced, weak feature of undefined profile appearing as fuzz. Spectrum scans of the head of Comet Bradfield (1980t) covering the wavelength range 365–640 nm were made on two nights when the heliocentric distance of the comet varied from 0.55 to 0.58 AU. The emission features of the CN band at 388 nm and Swan band sequence of C2 at 474 nm, 516 nm, and 563 nm are identified and absolute fluxes in these bands as well as in the continuum are derived. The continuum energy distribution curves of the comet have been compared with those of the Sun and the star Crv (G5 III). An estimate of the number of C2 and CN molecules in the head of the comet has been made through the measured intensities of their respective bands lying in this region.  相似文献
