We have discovered a giant radio halo in the massive merging cluster MACSJ0417.5-1154. This cluster, at a redshift of 0.443, is one of the most X-ray luminous galaxy cluster in the MAssive Cluster Survey (MACS) with an X-ray luminosity in the 0.1–2.4 keV band of 2.9×1045 erg s − 1. Recent observations from GMRT at 230 and 610 MHz have revealed a radio halo of ∼ 1.2 × 0.3 Mpc2 in extent. This halo is elongated along the North-West, similar to the morphology of the X-ray emission from Chandra. The 1400 MHz radio luminosity (L r) of the halo is ∼2 × 1025 W Hz − 1, in good agreement with the value expected from the L x − L r correlation for cluster halos.  相似文献

A brief summary is presented of requirements for the measurements of extragalactic γ-ray lines. The electron-positron annihilation line at 511 keV represents the best prospect, and although this line is greatly broadened in active galactic nuclei, a narrow line should be present in clusters of galaxies and radio lobes as a result of prior AGN activity. The strongest fluxes should be of the order of 10−4 photons cm−2 s−1 from the closest extended sources.  相似文献

The Eridanus galaxies follow the well-known radio—FIR correlation. The majority (70%) of these galaxies have their star formation rates below that of the Milky Way. The galaxies that have a significant excess of radio emission are identified as low luminosity AGNs based on their radio morphologies obtained from the GMRT observations. There are no powerful AGNs (L 20cm > 1023 W Hz−1) in the group. The two most far-infrared and radio luminous galaxies in the group have optical and HI morphologies suggestive of recent tidal interactions. The Eridanus group also has two far-infrared luminous but radio-deficient galaxies. It is believed that these galaxies are observed within a few Myr of the onset of an intense star formation episode after being quiescent for at least a 100 Myr. The upper end of the radio luminosity distribution of the Eridanus galaxies (L 20cm ∼ 1022 W Hz−1) is consistent with that of the field galaxies, other groups, and late-type galaxies in nearby clusters.  相似文献

LS 5039 is the only X-ray binary persistently detected at TeV energies by the Cherenkov HESS telescope. It is moreover a γ-ray emitter in the GeV and possibly MeV energy ranges. To understand important aspects of jet physics, like the magnetic field content or particle acceleration, and emission processes, such as synchrotron and inverse Compton (IC), a complete modeling of the multiwavelength data is necessary. LS 5039 has been detected along almost all the electromagnetic spectrum thanks to several radio, infrared, optical and soft X-ray detections. However, hard X-ray detections above 20 keV have been so far elusive and/or doubtful, partly due to source confusion for the poor spatial resolution of hard X-ray instruments. We report here on deep (∼300 ks) serendipitous INTEGRAL hard X-ray observations of LS 5039, coupled with simultaneous VLA radio observations. We obtain a 20–40 keV flux of 1.1±0.3 mCrab (5.9 (±1.6) ×10−12 erg cm−2 s−1), a 40–100 keV upper limit of 1.5 mCrab (9.5×10−12 erg cm−2 s−1), and typical radio flux densities of ∼25 mJy at 5 GHz. These hard X-ray fluxes are significantly lower than previous estimates obtained with BATSE in the same energy range but, in the lower interval, agree with extrapolation of previous RXTE measurements. The INTEGRAL observations also hint to a break in the spectral behavior at hard X-rays. A more sensitive characterization of the hard X-ray spectrum of LS 5039 from 20 to 100 keV could therefore constrain key aspects of the jet physics, like the relativistic particle spectrum and the magnetic field strength. Future multiwavelength observations would allow to establish whether such hard X-ray synchrotron emission is produced by the same population of relativistic electrons as those presumably producing TeV emission through IC.  相似文献

We make a statistical analysis of the periodsP and period-derivativesP of pulsars using a model independent theory of pulsar flow in theP-P diagram. Using the available sample ofP andP values, we estimate the current of pulsars flowing unidirectionally along theP-axis, which is related to the pulsar birthrate. Because of radio luminosity selection effects, the observed pulsar sample is biased towards lowP and highP. We allow for this by weighting each pulsar by a suitable scale factor. We obtain the number of pulsars in our galaxy to be 6.05−2.80 +3.32 × 105 and the birthrate to be 0.048−0.011 +0.014 pulsars yr−1 galaxy−1. The quoted errors refer to 95 per cent confidence limits corresponding to fluctuations arising from sampling, but make no allowance for other systematic and random errors which could be substantial. The birthrate estimated here is consistent with the supernova rate. We further conclude that a large majority of pulsars make their first appearance at periods greater than 0.5 s. This ‘injection’, which runs counter to present thinking, is probably connected with the physics of pulsar radio emission. Using a variant of our theory, where we compute the current as a function of pulsar ‘age’ (1/2P/P), we find support for the dipole braking model of pulsar evolution upto 6 × 106 yr of age. We estimate the mean pulsar braking index to be 3.7−0.8 +0.8.  相似文献

The GMRTHI 21 cm-line observations of galaxies in the Eridanus group are presented. The Eridanus group, at a distance of ≈ 23 Mpc, is a loose group of ≈200 galaxies. The group extends to more than 10 Mpc in projection. The velocity dispersion of the galaxies in the group is ≈240 km s−1. The galaxies are clustered into different sub-groups. The overall population mix of the group is 30% (E + S0) and 70% (Sp + Irr). The observations of 57 Eridanus galaxies were carried out with the GMRT for ≈ 200 h. HI emission was detected from 31 galaxies. The channel rms of ≈ 1 mJy beam−1 was achieved for most of the image-cubes made with 4 h of data. The corresponding HI column density sensitivity (3σ) is ≈ 1 × 1020 cm−2 for a velocity-width of ≈ 13.4 km s−1. The 3σ detection limit of HI mass is ≈ 1.2 X 107 Mpd for a line-width of 50 km s−1. Total HI images, HI velocity fields, global HI line profiles, HI mass surface densities, HI disk parameters and HI rotation curves are presented. The velocity fields are analysed separately for the approaching and the receding sides of the galaxies. These data will be used to study the HI and the radio continuum properties, the Tully-Fisher relations, the dark matter halos, and the kinematical and HI lopsidedness in galaxies.  相似文献

The properties of powerful (flux >10−19 W m−2 Hz−1) type III bursts observed in July – August 2002 by the radio telescope UTR-2 at frequencies 10 – 30 MHz are analyzed. Most bursts have been registered when the active regions associated to these bursts were located near the central meridian or at 40° – 60° to the East or West from it. All powerful type III bursts drift from high to low frequencies with frequency drift rates 1 – 2.5 MHz s−1. It is important to emphasize that according to our observations the drift rate is linearly increasing with frequency. The duration of the bursts changes mainly from 6 s at frequency 30 MHz up to 12 s at 10 MHz. The instantaneous frequency bandwidth does not depend on the day of observations, i.e. on the disk location of the source active region, and is increasing with frequency.  相似文献

The radio recombination line intensities of heavy elements of helium, carbon and oxygen are calculated with accounting for dielectronic recombination. Dielectronic recombination rates are determined accurate to the second order of a perturbation theory and the rates are described as function of principal quantum number for helium-like atom or ion. Balance equations are solved for the departure coefficients from LTE bn. The collision and spontaneous transition rates are accounted for the balance equations, in which non-equilibrium distribution source is dielectronic recombination. Non-equilibrium amplification coefficients are found as functions of a medium temperature, density and ion charge z = 1–3 for radio recombination lines. Optical depths are calculated for the heavy element low-frequency lines with the numbers 300 > n > 1200. For the chosen electronic temperatures and densities Te = 0.8× 104–10× 104 K, Ne = 0.05–0.1 cm−3 the line optical depth is determined by the values τL∼ 0.1× 10−4–100× 10−4. Calculated for free-free transition rates, the optical depth is given by using the value τff∼ 10−2τL.  相似文献

Using the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), ATLAS (Australia Telescope Large Area Survey) is imaging two fields totalling 7 square degrees down to 10 μJy beam − 1 at 1.4 GHz. We have found 6 wide-angle tail galaxies (WATs), 4 of which have sufficient data to identify associated galaxy overdensities. The largest WAT, at a red-shift of 0.22, appears to be associated with an overdensity of galaxies that is spread over an unusually large extent of 12 Mpc, with a velocity range of 4500 km s − 1. Here we present the WATs in ATLAS and discuss the implications of these observations for future large-scale radio surveys such as ASKAP-EMU.  相似文献

We studied the characteristics of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) associated with solar flares and Deca-Hectometric (DH) type II radio bursts, based on source position during 23rd solar cycle (1997–2007). We classified these CME events into three groups using solar flare locations as, (i) disk events (0–30); (ii) intermediate events (31–60) and (iii) limb events (61–90). Main results from this studies are, (i) the number of CMEs associated with solar flares and DH-type IIs decreases as the source position approaches from disk to limb, (ii) most of the DH CMEs are halo (72%) in disk events and the number of occurrence of halo CMEs decreases from disk to limb, (iii) the average width and speed of limb events (164 and 1447 km s−1) are higher than those of disk events (134 and 1035 km s−1) and intermediate events (146 and 1170 km s−1) and (iv) the average accelerations for disk, intermediate and limb events are −8.2 m s−2, −10.3 m s−2 and −4.5 m s−2 respectively. These analysis of CMEs properties show more dependency on longitude and it gives strong evidence for projection effect.  相似文献

Nearby interstellar clouds with high (|ν|≥10km s−1) random velocities although easily detected in NaI and CaII lines have hitherto not been detected (in emission or absorption) in the HI 21cm line. We describe here deep Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) HI absorption observations toward radio sources with small angular separation from bright O and B stars whose spectra reveal the presence of intervening high random velocity CaII absorbing clouds. In 5 out of the 14 directions searched we detect HI 21cm absorption features from these clouds. The mean optical depth of these detections is ∼0.09 and FWHM is ∼10km s−1, consistent with absorption arising from CNM clouds.  相似文献

Radio stars are identified optically with bright stars located in the direction of the cluster A3487 (RA(J) = 11h31m58s, DEC(J) = −31°11’34".8) with an accuracy determined by the refraction of radio waves in the interstellar medium in this direction of the sky. Within an area of 1 sq. degree, 60% of the strong radio sources with P > 0.004 Jy are identified with stars brighter than 10 m.  相似文献

We present new radio observations of molecular lines in the region of high mass star formation, namely G122.0-7.1. A large-scale map of the emission observed in the 12CO (J = 1−0) and 13CO (J = 1−0) lines covers the area of 15′ × 9′, revealing two dense regions. The molecular bipolar outflows have been resolved in ASO1 region. It is associated with the known candidate YSO nearby IRAS 0042 + 5530. Also, a new dense region has been discovered in the North-Western part of the G122.0-7.1 at a distance of 5′ from IRAS 0042 + 5530. Its position is close to the peak of 4850 MHz emission. I summarize here recent work on the physical conditions in blazar jets including the comparison between emission regions at subparsec scales (1016−17 cm) and at very large scales (1022−24 cm) recently detected in X-rays by Chandra. The jet properties at both scales together with those of the presumed associated accretion disk (1014−15 cm) suggest the possibility of a unified scenario for the origin and propagation of jets in strong radio sources.  相似文献

We report results from the combined analysis of UV and radio observations of a CME-driven shock observed on 7 May 2004 above the southeast limb of the Sun at 1.86 R with the Ultraviolet Coronagraph Spectrometer (UVCS) on board the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO). The coronal mass ejection (CME) was first detected in white-light by the SOHO’s Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO) C2 telescope and shock-associated type II metric emission was recorded simultaneously by ground-based radio spectrographs. The shock speed (∼ 690 km s−1), as deduced from the analysis of the type II emission drift in the radio spectra and the pre-shock local electron density estimated with the diagnostics provided by UVCS observations of the O vi λλ 1031.9, 1037.6 doublet line intensities, is just a factor ∼ 0.1 higher than the CME speed inferred by means of the white-light (and EUV) data in the middle corona. The local magnetosonic speed, computed from a standard magnetic field model, was estimated as high as ∼ 600 km s−1, implying that the CME speed was probably just sufficient to drive a weak fast-mode MHD shock ahead of the front. Simultaneously with the type II radio emission, significant changes in the O vi doublet line intensities and profiles were recorded in the UVCS spectra and found compatible with abrupt post-shock plasma acceleration and modest ion heating. This work provides further evidence for the CME-driven origin of the shocks observed in the middle corona.  相似文献

We report XMM-Newton observations of the Galactic supernova remnant G296.8-0.3, together with complementary radio and infrared data. The spatial and spectral properties of the X-ray emission, detected towards G296.8-0.3, was investigated in order to explore the possible evolutionary scenarios and the physical connexion with its unusual morphology detected at radio frequencies. G296.8-0.3 displays diffuse X-ray emission correlated with the peculiar radio morphology detected in the interior of the remnant and with the shell-like radio structure observed to the northwest side of the object. The X-ray emission peaks in the soft/medium energy range (0.5–3.0 keV). The X-ray spectral analysis confirms that the column density is high (N H∼0.64×1022 cm−2) which supports a distant location (d>9 kpc) for the SNR. Its X-ray spectrum can be well represented by a thermal (PSHOCK) model, with kT∼0.86 keV, an ionization timescale of 6.1×1010 cm−3 s, and low abundance (∼0.12 Z ). The 24 μm observations show shell-like emission correlated with part of the northwest and southeast boundaries of the SNR. In addition a point-like X-ray source is also detected close to the geometrical center of the radio SNR. The object presents some characteristics of the so-called compact central objects (CCO). Its X-ray spectrum is consistent with those found at other CCOs and the value of N H is consistent with that of G296.8-0.3, which suggests a physical connexion with the SNR.  相似文献

We analyze the three-dimensional kinematics of about 82 000 Tycho-2 stars belonging to the red giant clump (RGC). First, based on all of the currently available data, we have determined new, most probable components of the residual rotation vector of the optical realization of the ICRS/HIPPARCOS system relative to an inertial frame of reference, (ω x , ω y , ω z ) = (−0.11, 0.24, −0.52) ± (0.14, 0.10, 0.16) mas yr−1. The stellar proper motions in the form μα cos δ have then be corrected by applying the correction ω z = −0.52 mas yr−1. We show that, apart from their involvement in the general Galactic rotation described by the Oort constants A = 15.82 ± 0.21 km s−1 kpc−1 and B = −10.87 ± 0.15 km s−1 kpc−1, the RGC stars have kinematic peculiarities in the Galactic yz plane related to the kinematics of the warped stellar-gaseous Galactic disk. We show that the parameters of the linear Ogorodnikov-Milne model that describe the kinematics of RGC stars in the zx plane do not differ significantly from zero. The situation in the yz plane is different. For example, the component of the solid-body rotation vector of the local solar neighborhood around the Galactic x axis is M 32 = −2.6 ± 0.2 km s−1 kpc−1. Two parameters of the deformation tensor in this plane, namely M 23+ = 1.0 ± 0.2 km s−1 kpc−1 and M 33M 22 = −1.3 ± 0.4 km s−1 kpc−1, also differ significantly from zero. On the whole, the kinematics of the warped stellar-gaseous Galactic disk in the local solar neighborhood can be described as a rotation around the Galactic x axis (close to the line of nodes of this structure) with an angular velocity −3.1 ± 0.5 km s−1 kpc−1 ≤ ΩW ≤ −4.4 ± 0.5 km s−1 kpc−1.  相似文献

25 MHz–7.6 GHz global and detailed (fine structure – FS) radio spectra are presented, which were observed in the NOAA 9077 active region for the Bastille Day (14 July 2000) flare at 10:10–11:00 UT. Besides broadband radio bursts, high-resolution dynamic spectra reveal metric type II burst, decimetric type IV burst and various decimetric and microwave FSs, such as type III bursts, type U bursts, reverse-slope (RS)-drifting burst, fiber bursts, patch and drifting pulsation structure (DPS). The peak-flux-density spectrum of the radio bursts over the range 1.0–7.6 GHz globally appears as a U-shaped signature. Analyzing the features of backbone and herringbones of the type II burst, the speeds of shock and relevant energetic electron beams were estimated to be 1100 km s−1 and 58 500 km s−1, respectively. Also the time sequence of the radio emission is analyzed by comparing with the hard X-rays (HXRs) and the soft X-rays (SXRs) in this flare. After the maxima of the X-rays, the radio emission in the range 1.0–7.6 GHz reached maxima first at the higher frequency, then drifted to the lower frequency. This comparison suggested that the flare included three successive processes: firstly the X-rays rose and reached maxima at 10:10–10:23 UT, accompanied by fine structures only in the range 2.6–7.6 GHz; secondly the microwave radio emission reached maxima accompanied by many fine structures over the range 1.0–7.6 GHz at 10:23–10:34 UT; then a decimetric type IV burst and its associated FSs (fibers) in the range 1.0–2.0 GHz appeared after 10:40 UT.  相似文献

A dm-radio emission with fiber bursts observed on 11 July 2005 was analyzed using wavelet filtration and spectral methods. In filtered radio spectra we found structures with different characteristic period P and frequency drift FD: i) fiber substructures (composed of dot emissions) with P 1≈ 0.5 s, FD1=− 87 MHz s−1 on average, ii) fiber structures with P 2≈1.9 s, and iii) drifting structures with P 3≈81.4 s, FD2=− 8.7, + 98.5, and − 21.8 MHz s−1. In the wavelet spectra we recognized patterns having the form of tadpoles. They were detected with the same characteristic periods P as found for the filtered structures. The frequency drift of the tadpole heads is found to be equal to the frequency drift of some groups of fibers for the long-period wavelet tadpoles (P 3) and to the frequency drift of individual fibers for the short-period tadpoles (P 2). Considering these wavelet tadpoles as signatures of propagating magnetoacoustic wave trains, the results indicate the presence of several wave trains in the fibers’ source. While the long-period wave trains trigger or modulate a whole group of fibers, the short-period ones look like being connected with individual fiber bursts. This result supports the model of fibers based on magnetoacoustic waves. Using a density model of the solar atmosphere we derived the velocities of the magnetoacoustic waves, 107 and 562 km s−1, and setting them equal to the Alfvén ones we estimated the magnetic field in the source of fiber bursts as 10.7 and 47.8 G.  相似文献

There are relatively few H2CO mappings of large-area giant molecular cloud (GMCs). H2CO absorption lines are good tracers for low-temperature molecular clouds towards star formation regions. Thus, the aim of the study was to identify H2CO distributions in ambient molecular clouds. We investigated morphologic relations among 6-cm continuum brightness temperature (CBT) data and H2CO (111−110; Nanshan 25-m radio telescope), 12CO (1–0; 1.2-m CfA telescope) and midcourse space experiment (MSX) data, and considered the impact of background components on foreground clouds. We report simultaneous 6-cm H2CO absorption lines and H110α radio recombination line observations and give several large-area mappings at 4.8 GHz toward W49 (50′×50′), W3 (70′×90′), DR21/W75 (60′×90′) and NGC2024/NGC2023 (50′×100′) GMCs. By superimposing H2CO and 12CO contours onto the MSX color map, we can compare correlations. The resolution for H2CO, 12CO and MSX data was ∼10′, ∼8′ and ∼18.3″, respectively. Comparison of H2CO and 12CO contours, 8.28-μm MSX colorscale and CBT data revealed great morphological correlation in the large area, although there are some discrepancies between 12CO and H2CO peaks in small areas. The NGC2024/NGC2023 GMC is a large area of HII regions with a high CBT, but a H2CO cloud to the north is possible against the cosmic microwave background. A statistical diagram shows that 85.21% of H2CO absorption lines are distributed in the intensity range from −1.0 to 0 Jy and the ΔV range from 1.206 to 5 km s−1.  相似文献
