正Dr. Zhang Xianzhou received his Ph D degree in Ecology from former Commission for Integrated Survey of Natural Resources(CISNAR), Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999. He is the professor of Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research(IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences. He serves as a current editorial board member of Journal of Resources and Ecology. He is also the deputy director of the China Society on the Tibet Plateau(CSTP), the director of the Ecosystem and Biological Resources Committee and China Society of Natural Resources(CSNR).

2007 Annual Meeting of the Geographical Society of China （GSC） was held on November 2-4 in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province of East China. A total of over 1300 geographical researchers and educators from 190 geographical institutions across the country participated in this meeting. More than 800 papers were submitted and discussed during this academic meeting. The international conference on the urban environment was held on May 25-28, 2004 in Shanghai, China. It was co-sponsored by Montclair State University, USA and East China Normal University. A total of some 80 scholars and educators from China and across the world participated in this event. About 150 papers were presented and discussed during this conference.

The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Geographical Society of China （GSC） was held on July 13-15 in Changchun, Jilin Province of Northeast China. A total of over 1000 geographical researchers and educators from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Australia participated in this meeting. More than 400 papers were submitted and discussed during this academic meeting. This meeting was co-sponsored by the GSC, Northeast Institute of Geography and Agricultural Ecology （NEIGAE） under the CAS, Northeast Normal University, and Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research （IGSNRR） under the CAS. As an important part of the 2008 annual meeting, the 3rd Annual Academic Conference on Geography for Postgraduates was given a response from more than 200 postgraduates in universities and academic institutions.

正In order to provide better services to the members of Geographical Society of China(GSC)and geographers and engineers in China,and improve GSC’s ability in hosting comprehensive academic conferences,with the support of China Association for Science and Technology(CAST),GSC established 7 regional divisions,representing different regions of China.In addition,GSC revised the annual conference organizing policies by hosting the comprehensive national academic conference biannually.Instead of hosting annual national conferences,GSC organizes regional academic conferences.The new policy was initiated and executed in 2013.Up to now,7regional conferences have been successfully organized by the regional divisions in their areas.
