An asymptotic treatment of thin accretion disks, introduced by Kluźniak and Kita [Kluźniak, W., Kita, D., 2000. Three-dimensional structure of an alpha accretion disk. Available from: <arXiv:astro-ph/0006266v1> (KK)] for a steady-state disk flow, is extended to a time-dependent problem. Transient growth of axisymmetric disturbances is analytically shown to occur on the global disk scale. The implications of this result on the theory of hydrodynamical thin accretion disks, as well as future prospects, are discussed.  相似文献

A toy model for magnetic extraction of energy from black hole (BH) accretion disk is discussed by considering the restriction of the screw instability to the magnetic field configuration. Three mechanisms of extracting energy magnetically are involved. (1) The Blandford–Znajek (BZ) process is related to the open magnetic field lines connecting the BH with the astrophysical load; (2) the magnetic coupling (MC) process is related to the closed magnetic field lines connecting the BH with its surrounding disk; and (3) a new scenario (henceforth the DL process) for extracting rotational energy from the disk is related to the open field lines connecting the disk with the astrophysical load. The expressions for the electromagnetic powers and torques are derived by using the equivalent circuits corresponding to the above energy mechanisms. It turns out that the DL power is comparable with the BZ and MC powers as the BH spin approaches unity. The radiation from a quasi-steady thin disk is discussed in detail by applying the conservation laws of mass, energy and angular momentum to the regions corresponding to the MC and DL processes. In addition, the poloidal currents and the current densities in BH magnetosphere are calculated by using the equivalent circuits.  相似文献

In this paper we review the possibilities for magnetohydrodynamic processes to handle the angular momentum transport in accretion disks. Traditionally the angular momentum transport has been considered to be the result of turbulent viscosity in the disk, although the Keplerian flow in accretion disks is linearly stable towards hydrodynamic perturbations. It is on the other hand linearly unstable to some magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) instabilities. The most important instabilities are the Parker and Balbus-Hawley instabilities that are related to the magnetic buoyancy and the shear flow, respectively. We discuss these instabilities not only in the traditional MHD framework, but also in the context of slender flux tubes, that reduce the complexity of the problem while keeping most of the stability properties of the complete problem. In the non-linear regime the instabilities produce turbulence. Recent numerical simulations describe the generation of magnetic fields by a dynamo in the resulting turbulent flow. Eventually such a dynamo may generate a global magnetic field in the disk. The relation of the MHD-turbulence to observations of accretion disks is still obscure. It is commonly believed that magnetic fields can be highly efficient in transporting the angular momentum, but emission lines, short-time scale variability and non-thermal radiation, which a stellar astronomer would take as signs of magnetic variability, are more commonly observed during periods of low accretion rates. The new black hole candidate XTE J1817-330, discovered on 26 January 2006 with RXTE, was observed with XMM-Newton and INTEGRAL in February and March 2006, respectively. The X-ray spectrum is dominated by the thermal emission of the accretion disk in the soft band, with a low absorption column density (N H=1.77(±0.01)×1021 cm−2) and a maximum disk temperature kT max=0.68(±0.01) keV, plus a power law component, with the photon index decreasing from 2.66±0.02 to 1.98±0.07 between the two observations. Several interstellar absorption lines are detected in the X-ray spectrum, corresponding to O I, O II, O III, O VII and Fe XXIV. We constrain the distance to the system to be in the range 1–5 kpc.   相似文献

Accretion disks orbiting black holes power high-energy systems such as X-ray binaries and Active Galactic Nuclei. Observations are providing increasingly detailed quantitative information about such systems. This data has been interpreted using standard toy-models that rely on simplifying assumptions such as regular flow geometry and a parameterized stress. Global numerical simulations offer a way to investigate the basic physical dynamics of accretion flows without these assumptions and, in principle, lead to a genuinely predictive theory. In recent years we have developed a fully three-dimensional general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulation code that evolves time-dependent inflows into Kerr black holes. Although the resulting global simulations of black hole accretion are still somewhat simplified, they have brought to light a number of interesting results. These include the formation of electro-magnetically dominated jets powered by the black hole’s rotation, and the presence of strong stresses in the plunging region of the accretion flow. The observational consequences of these features are gradually being examined. Increasing computer power and increasingly sophisticated algorithms promise a bright future for the computational approach to black hole accretion.  相似文献

Magnetized accretion flows around black holes which include standing or oscillating shock waves can produce very realistic spectrum till a few MeV. These shocks accelerate hot electrons which produce power-law spectrum. The post-shock region intercepts soft-photons from an external source, namely, a Keplerian disk and also from distributed sources such as the synchrotron photons emitted from thermal and non-thermal electrons originated in the pre-shock and post-shock flow. These photons are inverse Comptonized by the thermal and the non-thermal electrons present in the CENBOL region. Computations show that the emitted radiation is extended till a few MeV. We include the bulk motion Comptonization as well and discuss its importance vis-a-vis the power-law spectrum produced by non-thermal electrons.   相似文献

We reexamine arguments advanced by Hayashi & Matsuda (2001), who claim that several simple, physically motivated derivations based on mean free path theory for calculating the viscous torque in a quasi-Keplerian accretion disk yield results that are inconsistent with the generally accepted model. If correct, the ideas proposed by Hayashi & Matsuda would radically alter our understanding of the nature of the angular momentum transport in the disk, which is a central feature of accretion disk theory. However, in this paper we point out several fallacies in their arguments and show that there indeed exists a simple derivation based on mean free path theory that yields an expression for the viscous torque that is proportional to the radial derivative of the angular velocity in the accretion disk, as expected. The derivation is based on the analysis of the epicyclic motion of gas parcels in adjacent eddies in the disk.  相似文献

In this paper, the analytical and numerical results of the stability analysis of the accretion disk at the inner boundary is presented. Including the effect of finite conductivity in the disk dynamics, a simple calculation considering only the radial perturbation has been carried out. Within local approximation, it is concluded that the disk is stable to Kelvin-Helmholtz and resistive electromagnetic modes whereas the magnetosonic mode can destabilise the disk structure.  相似文献

A two-dimensional instability analysis for a magneto-keplerian disk flow around a compact object is presented here. Using the eigenvalue technique, linearly coupled perturbed equations have been numerically solved within the local approximation. It is concluded that Kelvin-Helmholtz, magnetosonic (fast and slow) and resistive electromagnetic modes exist. However, only the magnetosonic mode can destabilise the disk structure. Further, we discuss the properties of different modes as a function of disk parameters and plot the eigenmode structures for different physical quantities.  相似文献

Because of their broad-band nature, multiwavelength observations of blazars are crucial to constrain the emission mechanisms, structure, and physical quantities of the inner jet on parsec and sub-parsec scales. Here I briefly review selected multiwavelength observations of blazars with a particular emphasis on sources detected at GeV and TeV gamma-rays. Their properties are discussed in the frame of the blazar “luminosity sequence”.  相似文献

Nonstationary hydrodynamic models of a viscous accretion disk around a central compact object were constructed. Two different numerical methods (TVD and SPH) are used to study the dynamics of dissipatively unstable acoustic perturbations at the nonlinear stage in terms of the standard α-disk model. The standard disk accretion in the Shakura-Sunyaev model is unstable against acoustic waves for various parameters of the system. If the α parameter, which specifies the level of turbulent viscosity, exceeds α?0.03, then a complex nonstationary system of small-scale weak shock waves is formed. The growth rate of the perturbations is higher in the central disk region. For α?0.2, the relative shock amplitude can exceed 50% of the equilibrium disk parameters. The reflection of waves from the disk boundaries and their nonlinear interaction are important factors that can produce unsteady accretion. The luminosity of such a disk undergoes quasi-periodic oscillations at a level of several percent (?5%) of the equilibrium level.  相似文献

The two-dimensional structure of a thin accretion disk in the vicinity of a Schwarzschild black hole after passing a marginally stable orbit (r< 3r g is discussed in terms of the Grad-Shafranov hydrodynamic equation. The accretion disk is shown to be sharply compressed as the sonic surface is approached, so the mass flow here is no longer radial. As a result, the dynamic forces ρ[(v ?)v] θ , which are equal in magnitude to the pressure gradient ? θ P on the sonic surface, become significant in vertical balance. Therefore, the disk thickness in the supersonic region (and, in particular, near the black-hole horizon) may be assumed to be determined not by the pressure gradient but by the shape of ballistic trajectories.  相似文献

The anomalous X-ray pulsar 4U 0142+61 was recently detected in the mid infrared bands with the SPITZER Observatory (Wang, Chakrabarty and Kaplan: Nature 440, 772 (2006)). This observation is the first instance for a disk around an AXP. From a reanalysis of optical and infrared data, we show that the observations indicate that the disk is likely to be an active disk rather than a passive dust disk beyond the light cylinder, as proposed in the discovering paper. Furthermore, we show that the irradiated accretion disk model can also account for all the optical and infrared observations of the anomalous X-ray pulsars in the persistent state.  相似文献

We examine the behaviour of accretion flow around a rotating black hole in presence of cooling. We obtain global flow solutions for various accretion parameters that govern the accreting flow. We show that standing isothermal shock wave may develop in such an advective accretion flow in presence of cooling. This shocked solution has observational consequences as it successfully provides the possible explanations of energy spectra as well as generation of outflows/jets of various galactic and extra-galactic black hole candidates. We study the properties of isothermal shock wave and find that it strongly depends on the cooling efficiency. We identify the region in the parameter space spanned by the specific energy and specific angular momentum of the flow for standing isothermal shock as a function of cooling efficiencies and find that parameter space gradually shrinks with the increase of cooling rates. Our results imply that accretion flow ceases to contain isothermal shocks when cooling is beyond its critical value.  相似文献

Magnetic fields likely play a key role in the dynamics and evolution of protoplanetary disks. They have the potential to efficiently transport angular momentum by MHD turbulence or via the magnetocentrifugal acceleration of outflows from the disk surface. Magnetically-driven mixing has implications for disk chemistry and evolution of the grain population, and the effective viscous response of the disk determines whether planets migrate inwards or outwards. However, the weak ionisation of protoplanetary disks means that magnetic fields may not be able to effectively couple to the matter. I examine the magnetic diffusivity in a minimum solar nebula model and present calculations of the ionisation equilibrium and magnetic diffusivity as a function of height from the disk midplane at radii of 1 and 5 AU. Dust grains tend to suppress magnetic coupling by soaking up electrons and ions from the gas phase and reducing the conductivity of the gas by many orders of magnitude. However, once grains have grown to a few microns in size their effect starts to wane and magnetic fields can begin to couple to the gas even at the disk midplane. Because ions are generally decoupled from the magnetic field by neutral collisions while electrons are not, the Hall effect tends to dominate the diffusion of the magnetic field when it is able to partially couple to the gas, except at the disk surfaces where the low density of neutrals permits the ions to remain attached to the field lines. For a standard population of 0.1 μm grains the active surface layers have a combined column Σactive≈2 g cm−2 at 1 AU; by the time grains have aggregated to 3 μm, Σactive≈80 g cm−2. Ionisation in the active layers is dominated by stellar X-rays. In the absence of grains, X-rays maintain magnetic coupling to 10% of the disk material at 1 AU (i.e. Σactive≈150 g cm−2). At 5 AU the Σactive≈Σtotal once grains have aggregated to 1 μm in size.  相似文献

The secular evolution of the purely general relativistic low angular momentum accretion flow around a spinning black hole is shown to exhibit hysteresis effects. This confirms that a stationary shock is an integral part of such an accretion disc in the Kerr metric. The equations describing the space gradient of the dynamical flow velocity of the accreting matter have been shown to be equivalent to a first order autonomous dynamical systems. Fixed point analysis ensures that such flow must be multi-transonic for certain astrophysically relevant initial boundary conditions. Contrary to the existing consensus in the literature, the critical points and the sonic points are proved not to be isomorphic in general, they can form in a completely different length scales. Physically acceptable global transonic solutions must produce odd number of critical points. Homoclinic orbits for the flow possessing multiple critical points select the critical point with the higher entropy accretion rate, confirming that the entropy accretion rate is the degeneracy removing agent in the system. However, heteroclinic orbits are also observed for some special situation, where both the saddle type critical points of the flow configuration possesses identical entropy accretion rate. Topologies with heteroclinic orbits are thus the only allowed non-removable degenerate solutions for accretion flow with multiple critical points, and are shown to be structurally unstable. Depending on suitable initial boundary conditions, a homoclinic trajectory can be combined with a standard non-homoclinic orbit through an energy preserving Rankine-Hugoniot type of stationary shock, and multi-critical accretion flow then becomes truly multi-transonic. An effective Lyapunov index has been proposed to analytically confirm why certain class of transonic flow cannot accommodate shock solutions even if it produces multiple critical points.  相似文献

The broad X-ray iron line observed in many active galactic nuclei spectra is thought to originate from the accretion disc surrounding the putative supermassive black hole. We show here how to perform the analytical integration of the geodesic equations that describe the photon trajectories in the general case of a rotating black hole (Kerr metric), in order to write a fast and efficient numerical code for modelling emission line profiles from accretion discs.  相似文献

We developed an efficient method for determining the surface-density distribution in a self-gravitating disk with an isolated central point mass from a specified angular-velocity distribution in the disk. An upper limit for the galactic-disk mass is shown to exist at a given black-hole mass. This limit significantly depends on the choice of rotation curves.  相似文献

The “blazar sequence” posits that the most powerful BL Lacertae objects and flat-spectrum radio quasars should have relatively small synchrotron peak frequencies, ν peak, and that the least powerful such objects should have the highest ν peak values. This would have strong implications for our understanding of jet formation and physics and the possible detection of powerful, moderately high-redshift TeV blazars. I review the validity of the blazar sequence by using the results of very recent surveys and compare its detailed predictions against observational data. I find that the blazar sequence in its simplest form is ruled out. However, powerful flat-spectrum radio quasars appear not to reach the ν peak typical of BL Lacs. This could indeed be related to some sort of sequence, although it cannot be excluded that it is instead due to a selection effect.   相似文献
