We present high-resolution echelle spectroscopy of 20 stars in 16 systems catalogued as members of the TW Hydrae association, and 16 stars identified as possible new members. We have calibrated the range of coronal and chromospheric activity expected for such young stars as a function of spectral type by combining our observations with literature data for field and open cluster stars. We also compute space motions for TWA members and candidate members with proper motion measurements, using two techniques to estimate distances to stars lacking direct trigonometric parallax measurements. The mean space motion of the four TWA members with known parallaxes is  ( U , V , W : −10.0, −17.8, −4.6) km s−1  . 14 of the candidates have properties inconsistent with cluster membership; the remaining two are potential new members, although further observations are required to confirm this possibility.  相似文献

We present a catalogue (CSOCA) of stars residing in 520 Galactic open cluster sky areas which is the result of the kinematic (proper motion) and photometric member selection of stars listed in the homogeneous All‐sky Compiled Catalogue of 2.5Million Stars (ASCC‐2.5).We describe the structure and contents of the catalogue, the selection procedure applied, and the proper motion and photometric membership constraints adopted. In every cluster area the CSOCA contains the complete list of the ASCC‐2.5 stars regardless of their membership probability. For every star the CSOCA includes accurate J2000 equatorial coordinates, proper motions in the Hipparcos system, BV photometric data in the Johnson system, proper motion and photometric membership probabilities, as well as angular distances from the cluster centers for about 166 000 ASCC‐2.5 stars. If available, trigonometric parallaxes, spectral types, multiplicity and variability flags from the ASCC‐2.5, and radial velocities with their errors from the Catalogue of Radial Velocities of Galactic Stars with high precision Astrometric Data (CRVAD) are also given. We report on the analysis of astrometric and photometric data from Hipparcos, Tycho and the ACT catalogue in a 1200 sq. degree field around the nearby open star cluster in Coma Berenices and infer the characteristic features of this cluster. From a sample of 51 kinematic members we derive the cluster's distance, size and spatial structure as well as its stellar content, mass and age. We find that the cluster consists of an elliptical core-halo system with major axis parallel to the direction of galactic motion, and of a moving group of extratidal stars. The latter have tangential distances ≥10 pc from the cluster center, but have the same distance from the Sun, the same motion and the same age as the stars in the core and halo. The luminosity function of the core-halo system steeply declines beyond absolute magnitude MV=4.5, but that of the moving group rises towards fainter magnitudes and suggests the existence of further low-mass members below the current magnitude limit. The cloud of extratidal stars witnesses the process of dissolution of the cluster.  相似文献

We study the spatial structure and sub‐structure of regions rich in Hipparcos stars with blue BTVT colours. These regions, which comprise large stellar complexes, OB associations, and young open clusters, are tracers of on‐going star formation in the Galaxy. The DBSCAN (Density‐Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) data clustering algorithm is used to look for spatial overdensities of early‐type stars. Once an overdensity, “agglomerate”, is identified, we carry out a data and bibliographic compilation of their star member candidates. The actual membership in agglomerate of each early‐type star is studied based on its heliocentric distance, proper motion, and previous spectro‐photometric information. We identify 35 agglomerates of early‐type Hipparcos stars. Most of them are associated to previously known clusters and OB associations. The previously unknown P Puppis agglomerate is subject of a dedicated study with Virtual Observatory tools. It is actually a new, nearby, young open cluster (d ∼ 470 pc, age ∼ 20 Ma) with a clear radial density gradient. We list P Puppis and other six agglomerates (including NGC 2451 A, vdBH 23, and Trumpler 10) as new sites for substellar searches because of their youth, closeness, and spatial density. We investigate in detail the sub‐structure in the Orion, CMa‐Pup and Pup‐Vel OB complexes (“super‐agglomerates”). We confirm or discover some stellar overdensities in the Orion complex, like the 25 Ori group, the Horsehead region (including the σ Orionis cluster), and the η Orionis agglomerate. Finally, we derive accurate parallactic distances to the Pleiades, NGC 2451 A, and IC 2391, describe several field early‐type stars at d < 200 pc, and discuss the incompleteness of our search. In the course of investigation of Shakhbazian compact groups we studied the group ShCG 191 which has been identified also as the Abell cluster A1097. By its richness it may be classified as a rich compact group or a poor cluster. We determined redshifts of 14 objects in the area of the cluster and found that two of the supposed members of the group are stars. Redshifts of 12 galaxies show that the system is gravitationally bound. The V and R magnitudes of 23 member galaxies and their morphological types are determined. We present in this paper also the surface brightness contours of member galaxies in the central area of the cluster, the curves of isophotal twisting and the Fourier parameter a4. It is shown that some galaxies in the cluster are interacting with each other. Physical parameters of the group are close to those of ShCGs. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Existing photometry for NGC 2264 tied to the Johnson & Morgan (1953) UBV system is reexamined and, in the case of the original observations by Walker (1956), reanalyzed in order to generate a homogeneous data set for cluster stars. Color terms and a Balmer discontinuity effect in Walker's observations were detected and corrected, and the homogenized data were used in a new assessment of the cluster reddening, distance, and age. Average values of EBV = 0.075 ± 0.003 s.e. and V0MV = 9.45 ± 0.03 s.e. (d = 777 ± 12 pc) are obtained, in conjunction with an inferred cluster age of ∼5.5 × 106 yr from pre‐main‐sequence members and the location of the evolved, luminous, O7 V((f)) dwarf S Mon relative to the ZAMS. The cluster main sequence also contains gaps that may have a dynamical origin. The dust responsible for the initial reddening towards NGC 2264 is no more than 465 pc distant, and there are numerous, reddened and unreddened, late‐type stars along the line of sight that are difficult to separate from cluster members by standard techniques, except for a small subset of stars on the far side of the cluster embedded in its gas and dust and background B‐type ZAMS members of Mon OB2. A compilation of likely NGC 2264 members is presented. Only 3 of the 4 stars recently examined by asteroseismology appear to be likely cluster members. NGC 2264 is also noted to be a double cluster, which has not been mentioned previously in the literature (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Because of the intense brightness of the OB‐type multiple star system σ Ori, the low‐mass stellar and substellar populations close to the centre of the very young σ Orionis cluster is poorly know. I present an IJHKs survey in the cluster centre, able to detect from the massive early‐type stars down to cluster members below the deuterium burning mass limit. The near‐infrared and optical data have been complemented with X‐ray imaging. Ten objects have been found for the first time to display high‐energy emission. Previously known stars with clear spectroscopic youth indicators and/or X‐ray emission define a clear sequence in the I vs. IKs diagram. I have found six new candidate cluster members that follow this sequence. One of them, in the magnitude interval of the brown dwarfs in the cluster, displays X‐ray emission and a very red JKs colour, indicative of a disc. Other three low‐mass stars have excesses in the Ks band as well. The frequency of X‐ray emitters in the area is 80±20 %. The spatial density of stars is very high, of up to 1.6±0.1 arcmin–2. There is no indication of lower abundance of substellar objects in the cluster centre. Finally, I also report two cluster stars with X‐ray emission located at only 8000–11000 AU to σ Ori AB, two sources with peculiar colours and an object with X‐ray emission and near‐infrared magnitudes similar to those of previously‐known substellar objects in the cluster. This paper presents the RCGP catalogue of more than 0.5 million candidate red clump stars with the limiting magnitude K s = 9.5 m . These stars are selected from the PPMX catalogue as the most probable red clump members by analyzing the color-reduced proper motion diagrams built from the proper motions given in PPMX and J, K s -photometry given in the 2MASS catalogue. Reddening of the selected stars is used to find extinction in the K s -band and to consider it in the further analysis. The two-dimensional galactic rotation model generalized by Ogorodnikov is used to investigate the tangential velocity field of the selected red clump members, most of which are thin disk stars located within 1.5 kpc from the sun. The values of kinematic parameters and solar components are determined as a function of stellar heights above the galactic equatorial plane and their heliocentric distances.  相似文献

We measured relative proper motions with a typical accuracy of 1.0 milliarcsec/year (mas/a) for 2000 stars in a 1°4 × 1°4 field around the low-latitude globular cluster NGC 6934. Four plates taken with the Bonn double refractor, spanning an epoch difference of 62 years, were digitized completely. Within the tidal radius of the cluster, we find 106 stars with proper motion errors less than 5 mas/a. Membership probalilities are computed taking into account the individual proper motion errors and the radial distances to the cluster centre. We derive the mean relative proper motion of NGC 6934 using stars with high membership probabilities from radial velocities (Smith and Bell 1986) or from their location in the colour-magnitude diagram (Harris and Racine 1973). The relative proper motions of four Hipparcos stars in the field will be used to obtain the absolute proper motion of NGC 6934 once the extragalactically calibrated Hipparcos Output Catalogue is available.  相似文献

We present results of an optical and near‐infrared (IR) 1.8 deg2 survey in the Pleiades open cluster to search for substellar objects. From optical I ‐band images from the CFHT and J ‐band images from the 3.5m CAHA Telescope, we identify 18 faint and very red L brown dwarf candidates, with I > 20.9 and I – J > 3.2. The follow‐up observations of nine objects in the H ‐ and K s‐bands confirm that eight belong to the IR sequence of the cluster and the proper motion measurements of seven candidates confirm that they are Pleiades members. A preliminary estimation of the substellar mass spectrum dN/ dM in the form of a power law M cα provides α = +0.57 ± 0.14. We extrapolate this function to estimate the number of planetary mass objects that could be present in the cluster down to 1 MJup. Sensitive searches combining far red and near‐IR observations may unveal these objects in a near future. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

We report the results of photometric monitoring of the Melotte 66 field in BVI filters. 10 variables were identified with nine being new discoveries. The sample includes eight eclipsing binaries of which four are W UMa type stars and one star is a candidate blue straggler. All four contact binaries are likely the members of the cluster based on their estimated distances. 10 blue stars with   U − B < −0.3  were detected inside a  14.8 × 22.8 arcmin2  field centred on the cluster. Time series photometry for seven of them showed no evidence for any variability. The brightest object in the sample of blue stars is a promising candidate for a hot subdwarf belonging to the cluster. We show that the anomalously wide main sequence of the cluster, reported in some earlier studies, results from a combination of two effects: variable reddening occurring across the cluster field and the presence of a rich population of binary stars in the cluster itself. The density profile of the cluster field is derived and the total number of the member stars with  16 < V < 21  or  2.8 < M V < 7.8  is estimated conservatively at about 1100.  相似文献

We present the results of a survey of the open star cluster Melotte 111 in Coma Berenices, undertaken using the USNO‐B1.0 and 2MASS Point Source catalogues. On the basis of their astrometric and photometric properties, we have identified 60 new candidate members with masses in the range 1.007 < M < 0.269 M. We estimate a membership probability for each by extracting control clusters from the proper motion vector diagram. All 60 are found to have greater than 60 per cent probability of being cluster members, which if they are confirmed as members, more than doubles the number of known cluster members. We also have I and Z photometry for 100 low mass candidate members of the cluster, 13 of which we suggest may be brown dwarfs. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

Cr 135 revisited
In this paper we combine information on photometry, radial velocities and proper motions to study the nature of the suspected open cluster Cr 135. For the first time we introduce proper motions of a large number of stars in the region of Cr 135 into the discussion. The proper motions taken from the PPM catalogue favour the hypothesis that Cr 135 is a real open cluster with at least 12 members at a distance of 300 pc having a space motion U, V, W of (−11, −13, −15) km s−1. But still more accurate observations are needed to separate it from the field stars without any doubt.  相似文献

The components of binary stars offer the potential to examine the predictions of stellar‐evolution theory with particularly tight constraints. Those constraints are further tightened when the binary belongs to a cluster whose properties have been well determined independently. 12 Comae presents both advantages, belonging as it does to the Coma Cluster, Melotte 111. The orbit of 12 Comae has an eccentricity of nearly 0.6 and a period of 13 months. By a process of subtraction we separate the spectra of the component stars, derive a precise double‐lined orbit solution, and by modelling the photometry we extract the individual stellar photometric and physical properties, ages and rotation. By fitting theoretical evolutionary tracks to the positions of the stars in the H‐R diagram we confirm their individual masses, and derive a ZAMS of ∼0.65 Gyr, which accords well with measurements published for the cluster itself. We show that the primary of 12 Comae is an evolving giant of spectral type ∼G7 and mass 2.6 M, while its secondary (whose spectrum could be isolated particularly cleanly) is an A3 dwarf which has a mass of 2.05 M and has commenced its evolution away from the main sequence. There is evidence that both stars are slightly metal‐weak (–0.25 < [Fe/H] < 0.0), well in keeping with analyses of other members of this cluster (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. 136 stars which were known to be members of the open cluster NGC 752 were observed at the R band with the ROTSE–IIId telescope located at the Turkish National Observatory (TUG) site. The data had been evaluated together with BV and 2MASS photometric data. A new practical method for separating dwarf and giant was described and applied. Evaluating the colour magnitude–diagrams with Padova isochrones revealed for the open cluster NGC 752 a metallicity similar to the Sun and an age of 1.41 ± 0.20 Gyr. With an apparent cluster diameter of 1.5° and an age of 4 Myr, Trumpler 37 is an ideal target for photometric monitoring of young stars as well as for the search of planetary transits, eclipsing binaries and other sources of variability. The YETI consortium has monitored Trumpler 37 throughout 2010 and 2011 to obtain a comprehensive view of variable phenomena in this region. In this first paper we present the cluster properties and membership determination as derived from an extensive investigation of the literature. We also compared the coordinate list to some YETI images. For 1872 stars we found literature data. Among them 774 have high probability of being member and 125 a medium probability. Based on infrared data we re‐calculate a cluster extinction of 0.9–1.2 mag. We can confirm the age and distance to be 3–5 Myr and870 pc. Stellar masses are determined from theoretical models and the mass function is fitted with a power‐law index of α = 1.90 (0.1–0.4 M) and α = 1.12 (1–10 M). (© 2013 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. In this paper, we attempt to use the DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) clustering algorithm to detect nearby open clusters based on the Gaia Data Release 2 (Gaia-DR2). We select 594284 stars (within a distance of 100 pc to the Sun) from the Gaia-DR2 catalog, and construct a five-dimensional phase space (three-dimensional spatial position and two-dimensional proper motion) in order to obtain reliable cluster members. At the data preprocessing stage, we normalize each dimension of data to the [0, 1] interval in order to avoid the effect of inconsistent units. Then, we use the k-dist graphs to determine the input parameters of the DBSCAN Algorithm. Finally, we obtain 133 reliable members using the DBSCAN algorithm, which correspond to two open clusters—Hyades and Coma. According to these cluster members, the distances to the Hyades and Coma clusters are determined to be (6.5 ± 0.3) pc and (4.9 ± 0.4) pc, respectively.  相似文献

We have carried out a search for co‐moving stellar and substellar companions around 18 exoplanet host stars with the infrared camera MAGIC at the 2.2 m Calar Alto telescope, by comparing our images with images from the all sky surveys 2MASS, POSS I and II. Four stars of the sample namely HD80606, 55 Cnc, HD46375 and BD–10°3166, are listed as binaries in the Washington Visual Double Star Catalogue (WDS). The binary nature of HD80606, 55 Cnc, and HD46375 is confirmed with both astrometry as well as photometry, thereby the proper motion of the companion of HD46375 was determined here for the first time.We derived the companion masses as well as the longterm stability regions for additional companions in these three binary systems. We can rule out further stellar companions around all stars in the sample with projected separations between 270AU and 2500AU, being sensitive to substellar companions with masses down to ∼60 MJup (S /N = 3). Furthermore we present evidence that the two components of the WDS binary BD–10°3166 are unrelated stars, i.e this system is a visual pair. The spectrophotometric distance of the primary (a K0 dwarf) is ∼67 pc, whereas the presumable secondary BD–10°3166B (a M4 to M5 dwarf) is located at a distance of 13 pc in the foreground. The characteristics of two stars, 25 Sex and HD 21699, as additional candidates for the sample of magnetic stars belonging to superclusters, are discussed. For 25 Sex, which was already accepted as a probable member of the Hyades supercluster in a previous study, arguments supporting the view that this star indeed is a magnetic star are presented. In the case of HD 21699, the radial velocity derived from our observations is not inconsistent with membership. But from the determinations of its proper motion found in the literature, this star cannot be regarded as a probable member of the α Per cluster. On the basis of recent evolutionary models, all the well established Ap cluster members appear to be close to the end of their main-sequence life. This suggests that A stars possibly become magnetic at the end of core hydrogen burning.  相似文献
