We present an RI photometric survey covering an area of 430 arcmin2 around the multiple star σ Orionis. The observations were conducted with the 0.8 m IAC‐80 Telescope at the Teide Observatory. The survey limiting R and I magnitudes are 22.5 and 21, and completeness magnitudes 21 and 20, respectively. We have selected 53 candidates from the I vs. RI colour‐magnitude diagram (I = 14–20) that follow the previously known photometric sequence of the cluster. Adopting an age of 2–4 Myr for the cluster, we find that these objects span a mass range from 0.35 M to 0.015 M. We have performed J‐band photometry of 52 candidates and Ks photometry for 12 of them, with the result that 50 follow the expected infrared sequence for the cluster, thus confirming with great confidence that the majority of the candidates are bona fide members. JHKs photometry from the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) is available for 50 of the candidates and are in good agreement with our data. We present results of an optical and near‐infrared (IR) 1.8 deg2 survey in the Pleiades open cluster to search for substellar objects. From optical I ‐band images from the CFHT and J ‐band images from the 3.5m CAHA Telescope, we identify 18 faint and very red L brown dwarf candidates, with I > 20.9 and I – J > 3.2. The follow‐up observations of nine objects in the H ‐ and K s‐bands confirm that eight belong to the IR sequence of the cluster and the proper motion measurements of seven candidates confirm that they are Pleiades members. A preliminary estimation of the substellar mass spectrum dN/ dM in the form of a power law M cα provides α = +0.57 ± 0.14. We extrapolate this function to estimate the number of planetary mass objects that could be present in the cluster down to 1 MJup. We present relative astrometry and differential photometry measurements for a sample of nearby southern orbital binaries making use of the technique of Adaptive Optics. The observations were made in December 2000, with the ADONIS camera mounted at the 3.6‐m ESO telescope from La Silla Observatory, equipped with the broad‐band near‐infrared filters (J ‐, H ‐, K ‐passbands). Our sample contains stars which do not fit very well the empirical mean mass‐luminosity relation (according to our previous study), but for which accurate parallaxes (determined by the Hipparcos satellite) and high‐quality orbits were available thanks to many previous efforts. We derived accurate positions and J, H, K magnitudes of the individual components of those binaries. The individual stellar components have near‐infrared colour indices well grouped in those plots and are comparable to standard single stars. The data reduction procedure used for deriving those results is described in detail. It is based on a least‐squares fit of Moffat‐Lorentz profiles in direct imaging for well‐resolved systems and on Fourier analysis for very close pairs. (© 2013 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Because of the intense brightness of the OB‐type multiple star system σ Ori, the low‐mass stellar and substellar populations close to the centre of the very young σ Orionis cluster is poorly know. I present an IJHKs survey in the cluster centre, able to detect from the massive early‐type stars down to cluster members below the deuterium burning mass limit. The near‐infrared and optical data have been complemented with X‐ray imaging. Ten objects have been found for the first time to display high‐energy emission. Previously known stars with clear spectroscopic youth indicators and/or X‐ray emission define a clear sequence in the I vs. IKs diagram. I have found six new candidate cluster members that follow this sequence. One of them, in the magnitude interval of the brown dwarfs in the cluster, displays X‐ray emission and a very red JKs colour, indicative of a disc. Other three low‐mass stars have excesses in the Ks band as well. The frequency of X‐ray emitters in the area is 80±20 %. The spatial density of stars is very high, of up to 1.6±0.1 arcmin–2. There is no indication of lower abundance of substellar objects in the cluster centre. Finally, I also report two cluster stars with X‐ray emission located at only 8000–11000 AU to σ Ori AB, two sources with peculiar colours and an object with X‐ray emission and near‐infrared magnitudes similar to those of previously‐known substellar objects in the cluster. As part of a long‐term project to determine abundances and astrophysical properties of evolved red stars in open clusters, we present high‐precision DDO photoelectric observations for a sample of 33 red giant candidates projected in the fields of nine Galactic open clusters. These data are supplemented with UBV photoelectric photometry of 24 of these stars as well as with CORAVEL radial‐velocity observations for 13 red giant candidates in four of the clusters. We also present Washington photoelectric photometry of a small sample of red giant candidates of the open cluster Ruprecht 97. The likelihood of cluster membership for each star photometrically observed and for 23 additional red giant candidates with UBV and DDO data available in the literature, is evaluated by using two independent photometric criteria. Nearly 82% of the analysed stars are found to have a high probability of being cluster giants. Photometric membership probabilities show very good agreement with those obtained from CORAVEL radial velocities. While E (BV) colour excesses were determined from combined BV and DDO colours, calibrations of the DDO system were used to derive MK spectral types, effective temperatures and metallicities. We have performed deep, wide‐field imaging on a ∼0.4 deg2 field in the Pleiades (Melotte 22). The selected field was not yet target of a deep search for low mass stars and brown dwarfs. Our limiting magnitudes are R ∼ 22 mag and I ∼ 20 mag, sufficient to detect brown dwarf candidates down to 40 MJ. We found 197 objects, whose location in the (I, RI) color magnitude diagram is consistent with the age and the distance of the Pleiades. Using CTK R and I as well as JHK photometry from our data and the 2MASS survey we were able to identify 7 new brown dwarf candidates. We present our data reduction technique, which enables us to resample, calibrate, and co‐add many images by just two steps. Detached eclipsing binaries (EBs) provide a unique opportunity to carry out stringent tests on stellar evolution models. The value of EBs is enhanced by their membership in open clusters, but the number of known systems is still very scarce. We have started a systematic search for late-type EBs in the nearest open clusters with the fully robotic ROTSE3b telescope at McDonald Observatory in West Texas. On our first campaigns on the Hyades and Collinder 359, we have identified a number of previously unknown eclipsing binary candidates. Some of these stars have been selected for spectroscopic and photometric follow-up. Here we present details of the observing and reduction strategy as well as the first results of this ongoing survey.  相似文献

We present the first results on variability of very low mass stars and brown dwarfs belonging to the ∼5 Myr Lambda Orionis cluster (Collinder 69). We have monitored almost continuously in the J filter a small area of the cluster which includes 12 possible members of the cluster during one night. Some members have turned to be short‐term variables. One of them, LOri167, has a mass close to the planetary mass limit and its variability might be due to instabilities produced by the deuterium burning, although other mechanism cannot be ruled out. The photometric calibration of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) is a multi‐step process which involves data from three different telescopes: the 1.0‐m telescope at the US Naval Observatory (USNO), Flagstaff Station, Arizona (which was used to establish the SDSS standard star network); the SDSS 0.5‐m Photometric Telescope (PT) at the Apache Point Observatory (APO), NewMexico (which calculates nightly extinctions and calibrates secondary patch transfer fields); and the SDSS 2.5‐m telescope at APO (which obtains the imaging data for the SDSS proper). In this paper, we describe the Monitor Telescope Pipeline, MTPIPE, the software pipeline used in processing the data from the single‐CCD telescopes used in the photometric calibration of the SDSS (i.e., the USNO 1.0‐m and the PT). We also describe transformation equations that convert photometry on the USNO‐1.0m ugriz ′ system to photometry the SDSS 2.5m ugriz system and the results of various validation tests of the MTPIPE software. Further, we discuss the semi‐automated PT factory, which runs MTPIPE in the day‐to‐day standard SDSS operations at Fermilab. Finally, we discuss the use of MTPIPE in current SDSS‐related projects, including the Southern ugriz ′ Standard Star project, the ugriz ′ Open Star Clusters project, and the SDSS extension (SDSS‐II). We present a study of the brown dwarf population in Collinder 70 and 121 open star clusters. Using photometric data from several catalogues we select several candidates in both clusters. We cover a circular area of radius equal to 1 degree around the cluster centers. We have searched for new members of the TWHya association (TWA) among unidentified ROSAT X‐ray sources by identifying them in proper motion catalogues and selecting those that would be consistent with kinematical membership to the TWA. Spectroscopic follow‐up observations of 19 member candidates revealed the detection of moderate lithium absorption lines for the following three stars: GSC 7206 845, TYC 7216‐55, and TYC 7247‐12. The isochronal ages of the latter TYC stars are estimated to be ∼20 Myr while the other one has ∼100 Myr age based on a kinematic distance estimate that assumes TWA membership. However, the moderately Li‐rich stars are not likely to be new pre‐main sequence members of TWA partly because of the discrepant radial velocities. Infrared follow‐up imaging in the H‐band for the 3 stars shows companion candidates near two of them.While one system (TYC 7216‐55) is probably a near‐equal‐magnitude stellar binary, our follow‐up H‐band spectrum of the faint companion candidate near GSC 7206 845 shows that it is instead a background K‐type star rather than a companion. We report new photometric observations of the ∼200 000 year old naked weak‐line run‐away T Tauri star Par 1724, located north of the Trapezium cluster in Orion. We observed in the broad band filters B, V, R, and I using the 90 cm Dutch telescope on La Silla, the 80 cm Wendelstein telescope, and a 25 cm telescope of the University Observatory Jena in Großschwabhausen near Jena. The photometric data in V and R are consistent with a ∼5.7 day rotation period due to spots, as observed before between 1960ies and 2000. Also, for the first time, we present evidence for a long‐term 9 or 17.5 year cycle in photometric data (V band) of such a young star, a cycle similar to that to of the Sun and other active stars (© 2009 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. This paper is the second in a series describing the southern Galactic Disk Survey (GDS) performed at the Univer‐sitätssternwarte Bochum near Cerro Armazones in Chile. Haas et al. (2012, Paper I) presented the survey design and the characteristics of the observations and data. They identified ∼2200 variable stars in an area of 50 square degrees with more than 50 observations in 2011. Here we present the first complete version of the GDS covering all 268 fields with 1323 square degrees along the Galactic disk including revised data from Paper I. The individual fields were observed up to 272 times and comprise a maximum time span between September 2010 and May 2015. We detect a total of 64 151 variable sources, which are presented in a catalog including some of their properties and their light curves. A comparison with the International Variable Star Index (VSX) and All Sky Automated Survey (ASAS) indicates that 56794 of these sources are previously unknown variables. Furthermore, we present U, B, V, r ′, i ′, z ′ photometry for all sources within the GDS, resulting in a new multi‐color catalog of nearly 16×106 sources detected in at least one filter. Both the GDS and the near‐infrared VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea survey (VVV) complement each other in the overlap area of about 300 square degrees enabling future comparison studies. We observed a cluster of extremely bright penumbral grains located at the inner limb‐side penumbra of the leading sunspot in active region NOAA 10892. The penumbral grains in the cluster showed a typical peak intensity of 1.58 times the intensity I0 of the granulation surrounding the sunspot. The brightest specimen even reached values of 1.8–2.0 I0, thus, exceeding the temperatures of the brightest granules in the immediate surroundings of the sunspot. We find that the observed sample of extremely bright penumbral grains is an intermittent phenomenon, that disappears on time scales of hours. Horizontal flow maps indicating proper motions reveal that the cluster leaves a distinct imprint on the penumbral flow field. We find that the divergence line co‐located with the cluster is displaced from the middle penumbra closer towards the umbra and that the radial outflow velocities are significantly increased to speeds in excess of 2 km s–1. The extremely bright penumbral grains, which are located at the inner limb‐side penumbra, are also discernible in offband Hα images down to Hα ± 0.045 nm. We interpret the observations in the context of the moving flux tube model arguing that hotter than normal material is rapidly ascending along the inner footpoint of the embedded flux tube, i.e., the ascending hot material is the cause of the extremely bright penumbral grains. This study is based on speckle‐reconstructed broad‐band images taken at 600 nm and chromospheric Hα observations obtained with two‐dimensional spectroscopy. All data were taken with adaptive optics under very good seeing conditions at the Dunn Solar Telescope, National Solar Observatory/Sacramento Peak, New Mexico on 2006 June 10. We present a new flare star, which was discovered during our survey on a selected field at the edge of the Pleiades cluster. The field was observed in the period 2007–2010 with three different CCD‐cameras at the University Observatory Jena with telescopes from 25 to 90 cm. The flare duration is almost one hour with an amplitude in the R‐band of about 1.08 mag. The location of the flare star in a color‐magnitude diagram is consistent with age and distance of the Pleiades. In the optical PSF of the flare star there are two 2MASS objects (unresolved in most images in the optical Jena PSF), so it is not yet known which one of them is responsible for this flare. The BVRIJHK colors yield spectral types of M1 and M2 with extinction being Av = 0.231 ± 0.024 mag and Av = 0.266 ± 0.020 for those two stars, consistent with the Pleiades cluster (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Lutz‐Kelker bias corrected absolute magnitude calibrations for the detached binary systems with main‐sequence components are presented. The absolute magnitudes of the calibrator stars were derived at intrinsic colours of Johnson‐Cousins and 2MASS (Two Micron All Sky Survey) photometric systems. As for the calibrator stars, 44 detached binaries were selected from the Hipparcos catalogue, which have relative observed parallax errors smaller than 15% (σπ ≤ 0.15). The calibration equations which provide the corrected absolute magnitude for optical and near‐infrared pass bands are valid for wide ranges of colours and absolute magnitudes: –0.18 < (BV)0 < 0.91, –1.6 < MV < 5.5 and –0.15 < (JH)0 < 0.50, –0.02 < (HKs)0 < 0.13, 0 < MJ < 4, respectively. The distances computed using the luminosity‐colours (LCs) relation with optical (BV) and near‐infrared (JHKs) observations were compared to the distances found from various other methods. The results show that new absolute magnitude calibrations of this study can be used as a convenient statistical tool to estimate the true distances of detached binaries out of Hipparcos' distance limit. We present the first results of our X‐shooter observations for a sample of dwarf (–17 < MB < –15) galaxies in nearby (0.04 < z < 0.07) galaxy clusters. This luminosity range is fundamental to trace the evolution of higher‐z star‐forming cluster galaxies down to the present day, and to explore the galaxy scaling relations of early‐type galaxies over a broad mass range. Thanks to high resolution and availability of several lines we can derive the velocity dispersion of the galaxies in this range of luminosities and we begin the construction of the fundamental plane of faint early‐type galaxies (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We collected a sample of 100 galaxies for which different observers have determined colour indices of globular cluster candidates. The sample includes representatives of galaxies of various morphological types and different luminosities. Colour indices (in most cases (VI), but also (BI) and (CT1)) were transformed into metallicities [Fe/H] according to a relation by Kissler‐Patig (1998). These data were analysed with the KMM software in order to estimate similarity of the distribution with uni‐ or bimodal Gaussian distribution. We found that 45 of 100 systems have bimodal metallicity distributions. Mean metallicity of the metal‐poor component for these galaxies is 〈[Fe/H]〉 = –1.40 ± 0.02, of the metalrich component 〈[Fe/H]〉 = –0.69 ± 0.03. Dispersions of the distributions are 0.15 and 0.18, respectively. Distribution of unimodal metallicities is rather wide. These data will be analysed in a subsequent paper in order to find correlations with parameters of galaxies and galactic environment.  相似文献

We study the spatial structure and sub‐structure of regions rich in Hipparcos stars with blue BTVT colours. These regions, which comprise large stellar complexes, OB associations, and young open clusters, are tracers of on‐going star formation in the Galaxy. The DBSCAN (Density‐Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) data clustering algorithm is used to look for spatial overdensities of early‐type stars. Once an overdensity, “agglomerate”, is identified, we carry out a data and bibliographic compilation of their star member candidates. The actual membership in agglomerate of each early‐type star is studied based on its heliocentric distance, proper motion, and previous spectro‐photometric information. We identify 35 agglomerates of early‐type Hipparcos stars. Most of them are associated to previously known clusters and OB associations. The previously unknown P Puppis agglomerate is subject of a dedicated study with Virtual Observatory tools. It is actually a new, nearby, young open cluster (d ∼ 470 pc, age ∼ 20 Ma) with a clear radial density gradient.We list P Puppis and other six agglomerates (including NGC 2451 A, vdBH 23, and Trumpler 10) as new sites for substellar searches because of their youth, closeness, and spatial density. We investigate in detail the sub‐structure in the Orion, CMa‐Pup and Pup‐Vel OB complexes (“super‐agglomerates”). We confirm or discover some stellar overdensities in the Orion complex, like the 25 Ori group, the Horsehead region (including the σ Orionis cluster), and the η Orionis agglomerate. Finally, we derive accurate parallactic distances to the Pleiades, NGC 2451 A, and IC 2391, describe several field early‐type stars at d < 200 pc, and discuss the incompleteness of our search. We present a photometric and spectroscopic study of the poorly investigated open cluster Trumpler 3. Basic parameters such as the age of 70 ± 10 Myr, the color excess E (B – V) = 0.30 ± 0.02 mag, the distance of 0.69 ± 0.03 kpc and the limiting radius of 12′ were redetermined and compared with previous preliminary studies. The distance of 0.65 ± 0.09 kpc was determined independently by spectral parallaxes. Simultaneously, our analysis allowed us to estimate a total number of members to be Ntot = 570 ± 90 and a total mass of the cluster to be Mtot = 270 ± 40 M. We also determined a state of cluster's dynamical evolution. We conclude that Trumpler 3 is a young low‐massive stellar ensemble with a typical mass function slope, located near to the outer edge of the Galaxy's Orion Spur. As a result of a wide‐field search for short period variable stars, 24 variables were discovered in the cluster's area.
