The oceanic biogeochemical fluxes in the North Pacific, especially its northwestern part, are discussed to prove their importance
on a global scale. First, the air-sea exchange processes of chemical substances are considered quantitatively. The topics
discussed are sea salt particles transported to land, sporadic transport of soil dust to the ocean and its role in the marine
ecosystem, the larger gas transfer velocity of CO2 indicating the effect of bubbles, and DMS and greenhouse gases other than CO2. Next, chemical tracers are utilized to reveal the water circulation systems in the region, which are the Pacific Deep Water
including its vertical eddy diffusivity, the North Pacific Intermediate Water and the Japan Sea Deep Water. Thirdly, the particulate
transport process of chemical substances through the water column is clarified by analyzing the distribution of insoluble
radionuclides and the results obtained from sediment trap experiments. Fourthly, the northern North Pacific is characterized
by stating the site decomposing organic matter and Si playing a key role in the marine ecosystem. Both are induced by the
upwelled Pacific Deep Water. Fifthly, the oceanic CO2 system related to global warming is presented by clarifying the distribution of anthropogenic CO2 in the western North Pacific, and roles of the upwelled Pacific Deep Water and the continental shelf zone in the absorption
of atmospheric CO2. Finally, Mn and other chemical substances in sediments are discussed as recorders of the early diagenesis and indicators
of low biological productivity during glacial ages in the northwestern North Pacific. It is concluded that the western North
Pacific is characterized mainly by the Pacific Deep Water bringing nutrients to the northern North Pacific, located at the
exit of the global deep water circulation and, therefore, the region plays a key role in the global biogeochemical fluxes.

使用全球版本的迈阿密等密度海洋环流模式对2011年3月日本福岛核电站泄漏在海洋中的传输以及扩散进行了数值模拟。数值模式中核废料(示踪物)排放情景采取等通量连续排放,排放时间从3月25日开始,分别持续20 d以及1 a,两种情形分别积分20 a。为了减少海洋环流年际变化带来的数值模拟的的不确定性,20 a的模式积分分别用2010年、1991-2011年、1971-1991年以及1951-1971年4个不同时段的NCEP/NCAR逐日再分析资料作为大气强迫场,因此每种排放情形包含4个数值试验。模拟结果的分析表明,不同核废料排放情景及其在不同时段大气资料对海洋模式的驱动下,模拟的示踪物总体的传输扩散路径(包括表层以及次表层)、传输速率以及垂直扩展的范围没有显著的差异。集合平均数值模拟的结果显示:在两种排放情景下,日本福岛核泄漏在海洋的传输路径受北太平洋副热带涡旋洋流系统主导,其传输路径首先主要向东,到达东太平洋后,再向南向西扩散至西太平洋,可能在10~15 a左右影响到我国东部沿海海域,且海洋次表层的传输信号比表层信号早5 a左右。通过进一步分析模式积分过程中最大示踪物浓度随时间变化发现,在积分第20 a(2031年3月),海洋表层和次表层浓度的最高值分别只有模式积分第一年浓度的0.1%和1%。在积分的20 a里,排放的核废料主要滞留在北太平洋海域(超过86%±1.5%的核废料在积分结束时,滞留在北太平洋),而在积分的前10 a(2021年之前),几乎所有的核废料滞留在北太平洋;在核废料的垂直分布上,主要集中在海洋表层至600 m的深度,在积分的20 a时间里,没有核废料信号扩散至1 000 m以下的深度。数值模拟的结果也表明核废料浓度减弱的强度以及演变的时间特征主要受洋流系统的影响,与排放源的排放时间长短关系不大。值得指出的是,更加准确地评估一个真实的核泄漏事故对海洋环境所造成的可能影响,还需要考虑大气中的放射性物质的沉降以及海洋生态对核物质的响应。 相似文献

The temporal variation of the total dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) content in the western North Pacific is investigated by comparing the DIC distribution obtained from the data sets of three different periods, the GEOSECS data observed in 1973, the CO2 dynamics Cruise data observed in 1982, and recent Japanese data sets observed during the early 1990s. The overall feature of the signal of temporal DIC change during 1973 and early 1990s agreed with that of former studies, and did not significantly change with the calculation scheme (the grid-selection method vs. the multiple regression method). The observed increase in DIC among the different time scales showed a good inner consistency, which also indicates the stability of the method used in the DIC change calculation. The apparent rate of increase of the DIC inventory in the upper 1000 m water column, however, differed significantly by the data set used for the calculation: It was 5.6±2.4 g C/m2/year, based on the data comparison between 1982 and the early 1990s, while it became 7.6±2.4 g C/m2/year when based on the data between 1973 and the early 1990s. This result provides us an information about the data-dependency on the former estimation of temporal DIC change. 相似文献

利用一个开边界的北太平洋海盆尺度环流模式模拟了北太平洋原子弹14C的分布和吸收。为了考察开边界与闭边界模式的不同以及开边界模式中不同等密度面扩散系数对模拟结果的影响,相应地做了一个闭边界实验和开边界的两组不同等密度面扩散系数的实验。结果表明,打开南边界改善了赤道以南海区的模拟结果,增大等密度面扩散系数使得模拟的北太平洋中层水强度增大,相应地在165°E等断面模拟的含高浓度原子弹14C的海水向南、向下输送的强度和影响范围都有比较明显的加强,改善了模式的模拟结果,证明大的等密度面扩散系数可以改善模式的模拟结果,能较好地再现在副热带海区原子弹14C水柱总量的梯度由西向东的观测特征。 相似文献

According to Argo profiles and one-dimensional Price-Weller-Pinkel models, the oceanic barrier layer variation induced by tropical cyclones is adequately analyzed in the Northwest Pacific. Results show that tropical cyclones mainly aff ect the oceanic barrier layer through intensifying and weakening pre-existed barrier layer. The former even may generate new one after tropical cyclones’ passage. The latter can make pre-existed one disappear. Local wind stress and precipitation, the dominant factors, primarily determine the variation of barrier layer. Negative eff ects of wind mainly focus on the north of 20°N. This phenomenon is more meaningful for slow tropical cyclones. Conversely, positive eff ects of wind and precipitation center on the south of 20°N in the Northwest Pacific. Some data indicate that the barrier layer variation is also closely related with initial mixed layer depth and barrier layer thickness. 相似文献

北太平洋副热带环流的变化在全球气候变化和热量的经向输送中占重要地位。本文对近10年有关北太平洋副热带海洋环流气候变化的研究进行了综述。主要研究成果有:用卫星高度计首次观测到全球海洋Rossby波的传播特征;确定了气候意义下北太平洋副热带逆流为2支.揭示了其中一支与北太平洋模态水的存在有关,另一支是夏威夷群岛附近海洋.大气-陆地相互作用的结果;首次发现了台湾以东黑潮流量有显著的准100天振荡等。本文还提出了在北太平洋副热带环流研究中目前存在的新科学问题。 相似文献

We proposed an empirical equation of sea surface dimethylsulfide (DMS, nM) using sea surface temperature (SST, K), sea surface nitrate (SSN, μM) and latitude (L, °N) to reconstruct the sea surface flux of DMS over the North Pacific between 25°N and 55°N: ln DMS = 0.06346 · SST − 0.1210 · SSN − 14.11 · cos(L) − 6.278 (R2 = 0.63, p < 0.0001). Applying our algorithm to climatological hydrographic data in the North Pacific, we reconstructed the climatological distributions of DMS and its flux between 25 °N and 55 °N. DMS generally increased eastward and northward, and DMS in the northeastern region became to 2–5 times as large as that in the southwestern region. DMS in the later half of the year was 2–4 times as large as that in the first half of the year. Moreover, applying our algorithm to hydrographic time series datasets in the western North Pacific from 1971 to 2000, we found that DMS in the last three decades has shown linear increasing trends of 0.03 ± 0.01 nM year− 1 in the subpolar region, and 0.01 ± 0.001 nM year− 1 in the subtropical region, indicating that the annual flux of DMS from sea to air has increased by 1.9–4.8 μmol m− 2 year− 1. The linear increase was consistent with the annual rate of increase of 1% of the climatological averaged flux in the western North Pacific in the last three decades. 相似文献

This special issue is comprised of 13 papers, including this overview, and focuses on the synthesis of the Joint Global Ocean
Flux Study (JGOFS) in the North Pacific which took place from 1997 through 2003. The effort was led by the JGOFS North Pacific
Synthesis Group, with the aim of quantifying CO2 drawdown by physical and biological pumps in the North Pacific by identifying and studying the regional, seasonal to inter-annual
variations in the key processes, and understanding their regulating mechanisms. Emphasis was placed on the similarities and
differences of the biogeochemical regimes in the eastern and western subarctic Pacific. Effort was also made to address the
future research directions which arose from the scientific findings during the North Pacific JGOFS process study. A brief
overview of the papers from view points of CO2 drawdown by physical and biological pumps, spatial variability, and temporal variability from seasonal to decadal scales
is made, followed by suggestions for the directions of future research.

Large-scale aspects of the North Pacific subtropical gyre have been investigated using a climatology of temperature and salinity
(World Ocean Atlas 1998). In the central and eastern parts of the basin, the axis of the subtropical gyre, defined as the
meridional maximum of dynamic height, tends to move poleward from about 25°N near the surface to about 40°N in the upper intermediate
layers. In the western part of the basin, the axis is seen at about 30°N, remaining almost unchanged with depth. Striking
features associated with this vertical distribution include a northward shift of the bifurcation latitude of the North Equatorial
Current at increasing depth and a barotropic nature of the confluence point between the Kuroshio and Oyashio at their respective
western boundaries. The former occurs at about 14°N near the surface and extends north of 20°N at depths around 800 m. The
latter, situated at about 36.4°N off Japan, does not appear to have a strong signature of depth-dependence. While some of
these results are already known from sporadic hydrographic observations, they have not hitherto been represented in a three-dimensional
climatology.

中北太平洋过渡区是高低纬海洋西边界强化动力系统的接续区和交汇区,是大尺度和中小尺度海洋过程的突出集中区,是研究海洋和海气系统多尺度过程与海洋气候和环境生态效应的关键区。文章从海洋学和气候学角度简述中北太平洋过渡区相关海域有关科学研究成果,并就相关科学问题研究现状和不足提出启发性研究对策和建议。结果表明,中北太平洋过渡区对认识全球变暖背景下海洋与气候变化的临界条件、临界状态、跨界触发、通道机制等研究具有重要参考价值,建议通过国际合作主导引领相关地区海洋自主或联合调查,系统构建气候变化观测体系,发展多尺度过程互馈机制和可预测性研究,创建仿生仿真多功能耦合模型,突破致害致灾风险预评估与区划技术关键,为深化海洋与气候变化认识,防灾减灾研究,海洋区域治理和海洋环境与生态安全保障提供坚实的科技支撑。 相似文献

To verify the actual usefulness of time-dependent tracer dating techniques in the ocean, we simultaneously obtained two cross
sections of sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) and chlrofluoromethanes (CFC-11, trichlorofluoromethane; CFC-12, dichloro-difluromethane; CFC-113, trichlorotrifluoroethane)
in the western North Pacific in 1998. The vertical distribution patterns of SF6 and CFC-113 were similar in shape to those of CFC-11 and CFC-12. Maximum penetration depths of SF6 and CFC-113 remained around 800 m in the subpolar region and 400 m in the tropical region, while the maximum penetration
depths of CFC-11 and CFC-12 were still found below 1000 m depth. We also found all maximum contents of these tracers around
26.6−26.8σθ with a gradual decrease southward. This suggested that a new subsurface water mass in the subpolar region spread out over
the entire North Pacific, which agrees closely with previous studies based on the salinity minimum. Moreover, we compared
the tracer ages (the elapsed period of a water mass from when the water mass left from the ocean surface) using ten time-dependent
tracer dating techniques, CFC-11, CFC-12, CFC-113, SF6, CFC-11/CFC-12, CFC-113/CFC-11, CFC-113/CFC-12, SF6/CFC-11, SF6/CFC-12 and SF6/CFC-113. This quantitative evaluation of multiple tracer dating techniques in the ocean was the first confirmation of its
usefulness based on the observational data on the ocean basin-wide scale. We conclude that SF6/CFC-11, SF6/CFC-12, SF6/CFC-113 and SF6 dating techniques would be the most promising tools for determining the age of water mass not only just for the past several
decades but for the future, too.

JGOFS has revealed the importance of marine biological activity to the global carbon cycle. Ecological models are valuable tools for improving our understanding of biogeochemical cycles. Through a series of workshops, the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) developed NEMURO (North Pacific Ecosystem Model Understanding Regional Oceanography) a model, specifically designed to simulate the lower trophic ecosystem in the North Pacific Ocean. Its ability to simulate vertical fluxes generated by biological activities has not yet been validated. Here compare NEMURO with several other lower trophic level models of the northern North Pacific. The different ecosystem models are each embedded in a common three-dimensional physical model, and the simulated vertical flux of POM and the biomass of phytoplankton are compared. The models compared are: (1) NEMURO, (2) the Kishi and Nakata Model (Kishi et al., 1981), (3) KKYS (Kawamiya et al., 1995, 2000a, 2000b), and (4) the Denman model (Denman and Peña, 2002). With simple NPZD models, it is difficult to describe the production of POM (Particulate Organic Matter) and hence the simulations of vertical flux are poor. However, if the parameters are properly defined, the primary production can be well reproduced, even though none of models we used here includes iron limitation effects. On the whole, NEMURO gave a satisfactory simulation of the vertical flux of POM in the northern North Pacific. 相似文献

Thirty-eight surficial deposit samples were collected from the equatorial North Pacific, and the natural thermoluminescence (TL) characteristics of both bulk and clay fraction samples (<2 μm fractions) were studied by the FJ427-A1 automatic TL Dosimeter for the first time. With the measurements of clay mineral composition, element composition by XRD and ICP, the correlations between TL intensity and sedimentary environment proxies were analyzed, such as water depth, ratio of FeO to Fe2O3 contents, LOI, and major clay mineral concentration, and it was found the bulk sample’s TL signal was stronger than the clay ones. Usually, increase in the clay components may result in the decrease of TL intensity. From the shape of TL curves, the pelagic sediments can be divided into two groups: the majority group has two glow peaks, in general, the first peak is broad and flat, but the second narrow and sharp; the minority group only has a single peak because the first is absent. The peak centers of TL curves are almost fixed, falling in the temperature sections 230~260 and 390~405 ℃ respectively. Lorentz model packed in the Origin 7.5 was chosen to deal with the TL curves. From the processing results, three parameters (H, C and A), corresponding to the height, center, and kurtosis of TL curve, were obtained to describe the curve characteristics. The correlations between TL curve parameters and sedimentary environment proxies were also calculated. On the basis of the above work, the relationship between TL characteristics and sediment type, mineral composition, sedimentary environment of surface sediments was discussed in the study area, and a conclusion is: sediments from the environment of shallower water, higher organic contents and weaker reductivity have stronger TL signals. 相似文献

The Northwest Pacific Carbon Cycle Study (NOPACCS) was a program aimed at investigating the carbon cycle of the North Pacific Ocean, which can be thought of as a large reservoir of carbon dioxide. NOPACCS was also aimed at estimating the North Pacific's capacity as a carbon sink. Project design, scientific results, and data availability, and subsequent projects resulting from this project are also described in this review. Studies of the upper ocean processes focused on the latitudinal differences in the fugacity of carbon dioxide; and on the detail of plankton community structures. Intermediate water was studied in relation to the formation of North Pacific Intermediate Water and the amount of accumulated anthropogenic carbon. The sedimentation process, past carbon cycle and coral reefs were also studied during the project. A preliminary, overall view of the carbon cycle of the North Pacific was drawn from the results of the project and compared to global values. 相似文献

Latitudinal and Vertical Distributions of Phytoplankton Absorption Spectra in the Central North Pacific during Spring 1994 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
Vertical changes of phytoplankton absorption spectra along 175°E from 48°N to 15°S were examined during spring 1994. The absorption spectra were analyzed using three different approaches; averaging the spectra within same oceanic areas, EOF analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Average spectra showed differences in five oceanic areas; subarctic, Kuroshio, subtropical surface, equatorial surface, and subtropical and equatorial subsurface areas. The distributions of the EOF mode of the variance of absorption spectra and of the pigments estimated by the multiple regression analysis indicated consistent differences of the spectra between those areas. Kuroshio water contains highest chlorophyll a concentrations and low chlorophyll-a-specific absorption spectra, and this may be caused by the package effect with large phytoplankton cell and by low concentrations of photo-protected carotenoids. Subtropical and equatorial subsurface water showed high absorption at 480 nm and indicated the effects of chlorophyll b. Absorption of the subsurface phytoplankton also showed a shift of the blue peak, possibly caused by the presence of divinyl-chlorophyll a. The consistency of the three different analytical methods indicates that the phytoplankton absorption includes significant information on pigment composition along a north-south vertical section of the central North Pacific. 相似文献

采用复经验正交函数(EOF)分解和小波分析,对冬季北太平洋上层海流异常进行了统计动力诊断,并讨论了主要模态与北太平洋年代际振荡(PDO)模态和北太平洋环流振荡(NPGO)模态的关系。结果显示,冬季北太平洋上层洋流异常复EOF分解的第一模态是PDO在流场异常上的反映,第二模态则包含了NPGO的明显信息。主要依据有:(1)第一和第二模态的实时间系数序列分别有准20a和准13a的年代际变化周期,与PDO和NPGO模态的年代际变化周期相同;(2)第一和第二模态实时间系数与北太平洋海表面温度异常(SSTA)的回归系数场的空间分布分别与PDO和NPGO模态的空间结构相近。根据第一和第二模态上层洋流异常计算得到的垂直运动异常的分布,与SSTA的PDO和NPGO模态的空间分布类似,表明海盆尺度流场异常造成的垂直运动是形成PDO和NPGO模态的重要原因。 相似文献

利用较高分辨率的SODA资料,对赤道外北太平洋海洋上层各层的海温,特别是对中纬度北太平洋海温明显异常的海域(其被定义为关键区)做了海温的EOF分析,得到以下结论:北太平洋第一模态空间场上,冬、夏在中纬度北太平洋中西部均有较强正值带出现。在关键区第一模态空间场上,冬、夏两季近表层在日本本州岛的东、西面海域均分别有较强正值区,而次表层则仅存前者;这表明近表层海温(前者)受辐射、蒸发等影响明显,而次表层海温(后者)则其主要受流场垂直运动的影响,前者属海温的热力变化而后者则属海温的动力变化,两者性质不同。北太平洋和关键区的第一模态冬、夏海温变化的趋势均相近,两者在年尺度上均有持续性;两者的年际变化冬、夏均不明显,但均有明显的约20年的年代际变化;两者时间系数的演变均与太平洋年代际振荡(PDO)中的冷、暖位相期有较好的对应;这两个模态均可称为PDO模态。 相似文献
