We present the detailed reaction network used in Paper I of this series and discuss the sensitivity of the calculated abundances of sulphur-bearing species to various parameters including reaction efficiency and elemental depletions. It is shown that while ion-grain reactions can provide appreciable abundances of many S-bearing species, they do not contribute significantly to the abundance of O-bearing molecules. Observations of HDS in interstellar clouds could provide important information on the formation of H2S.  相似文献

We have constructed models for a region of low mass star formation where stellar winds ablate material from dark dense cores and return it to a translucent intercore medium from which subsequent generations of cores condense. Depletion of gas phase species onto grains plays a major role in the chemistry. For reasonable agreement between model core chemical fractional abundances and measured TMC-1 fractional abundances to obtain, the core collapse, once started, must be relatively uninhibited by turbulence or magnetic fields and the core lifetime must fall in a limited range determined by the assumed depletion rates. In a core with the TMC-1 fractional abundances, CH, OH, C2H, H2CO, HCN, HNC, and CN are the only simple species that have been detected in TMC-1 at radio and millimeter wavelengths to have fractional abundances that are roughly constant or increasing with time; this result bears considerably on previous work concerned with searches for spectroscopic evidence for and the diagnosis of collapse during protostellar formation, but depends on the fractions of the OH and CH emissions that are associated with the core centre rather than more extended gas or a core-stellar wind boundary layer. Model results for the abundance ratios of H2O, CH4, and NH3 ices are in good agreement with those inferred for Halley's Comet.  相似文献

The evolution of star-forming core analogues undergoing inside-out collapse is studied with a multipoint chemodynamical model which self-consistently computes the abundance distribution of chemical species in the core. For several collapse periods the output chemistry of infalling tracer species such as HCO+, CS and N2H+ is then coupled to an accelerated Λ-iteration radiative transfer code, which predicts the emerging molecular line profiles using two different input gas/dust temperature distributions. We investigate the sensitivity of the predicted spectral line profiles and line asymmetry ratios to the core temperature distribution, the time-dependent model chemistry, as well as to ad hoc abundance distributions. The line asymmetry is found to be strongly dependent on the adopted chemical abundance distribution. In general, models with a warm central region show higher values of blue asymmetry in optically thick HCO+ and CS lines than models with a starless core temperature profile. We find that in the formal context of Shu-type inside-out infall, and in the absence of rotation or outflows, the relative blue asymmetry of certain HCO+ and CS transitions is a function of time and, subject to the foregoing caveats, can act as a collapse chronometer. The sensitivity of simulated HCO+ line profiles to linear radial variations, subsonic or supersonic, of the internal turbulence field is investigated in the separate case of static cores.  相似文献

A one-dimensional Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) model is used to examine the effects of a non-condensable species on Io's sulfur dioxide sublimation atmosphere during eclipse and just after egress. Since the vapor pressure of SO2 is extremely sensitive to temperature, the frost-supported dayside sublimation atmosphere had generally been expected to collapse during eclipse as the surface temperature dropped. For a pure SO2 atmosphere, however, it was found that during the first 10 min of eclipse, essentially no change in the atmospheric properties occurs at altitudes above ∼100 km due to the finite ballistic/acoustic time. Hence immediately after ingress the auroral emission morphology above 100 km should resemble that of the immediate pre-eclipse state. Furthermore, the collapse dynamics are found to be greatly altered by the presence of even a small amount of a non-condensable species which forms a diffusion layer near the surface that prevents rapid collapse. It is found that after 10 min essentially no collapse has occurred at altitudes above ∼20 km when a nominal mole fraction of non-condensable gas is present. Collapse near the surface occurs relatively quickly until a static diffusion layer many mean free paths thick of the non-condensable gas builds up which then retards further collapse of the SO2 atmosphere. For example, for an initial surface temperature of 110 K and 35% non-condensable mole-fraction, the ratio of the SO2 column density to the initial column density was found to be 0.73 after 10 min, 0.50 after 30 min, and 0.18 at the end of eclipse. However, real gas species (SO, O2) may not be perfectly non-condensable at Io's surface temperatures. If the gas species was even weakly condensable (non-zero sticking/reaction coefficient) then the effect of the diffusion layer on the dynamics was dramatically reduced. In fact, if the sticking coefficient of the non-condensable exceeds ∼0.25, the collapse dynamics are effectively the same as if there were no non-condensable present. This sensitivity results because the loss of non-condensable to the surface reduces the effective diffusion layer size, and the formation of an effective diffusion layer requires that the layer be stationary; this does not occur if the surface is a sink. Upon egress, vertical stratification of the condensable and non-condensable species occurs, with the non-condensable species being lifted (or pushed) to higher altitudes by the sublimating SO2 after the sublimating atmosphere becomes collisional. Stratification should affect the morphology and intensity of auroral glows shortly after egress.  相似文献

The list of detected refractory-element (RE) species in IRC10216 is now large enough to try to assess their chemistry, and the fraction of each that escapes in gas phase to the ISM. The former may tell us how grains are formed, the latter whether mass-loss from evolved stars is important in determining interstellar elemental depletions as distinct from accretion processes in the ISM. We expect that much of the Si chemistry is now understood and about 25% of Si escapes as a gas. Other REs are less well understood but most should be more volatile than Si. For many of the REs, O-rich CSEs should behave similarly to C-rich ones.Operated by Associated Universities, Inc., under cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation  相似文献

Despite the low elemental abundance of atomic deuterium in the interstellar medium (ISM), observational evidence suggests that several species, both in the gas phase and in ices, could be heavily fractionated. We explore various aspects of deuterium enrichment by constructing a chemical evolution model in both gaseous and granular phases. Depending on various physical parameters, gases and grains are allowed to interact with each other through the exchange of their chemical species. It is known that HCO+ and N2H+ are two abundant gas phase ions in the ISM and, their deuterium fractionation is generally used to predict the degree of ionization in the various regions of a molecular cloud. For a more accurate estimation, we consider the density profile of a collapsing cloud. The radial distributions of important interstellar molecules, along with their deuterated isotopomers, are presented. Quantum chemical simulations are computed to study the effects of isotopic substitution on the spectral properties of these interstellar species. We calculate the vibrational (harmonic) frequencies of the most important deuterated species (neutral and ions). The rotational and distortional constants of these molecules are also computed in order to predict the rotational transitions of these species. We compare vibrational (harmonic) and rotational transitions as computed by us with existing experimental and theoretical results. It is hope that our results will assist observers in detecting several hitherto unobserved deuterated species.  相似文献

The asymmetry of Hα line profiles is an important characteristic in the spectral observations of chromospheric flares, as well as one of the important observational facts of the dynamical process in solar flares. Based on the observed data of the solar spectrograph of Purple Mountain Observatory, some typical asymmetric Hα line profiles are presented. Taking the effects of the nonthermal excitation and ionization of hydrogen atoms into consideration, the asymmetry characteristics of Hα line profiles under different atmospheric models are calculated, and a semi-empirical study on the observed line profiles is thereby made. The results indicate that the downward motion of the chromospheric condensation region can cause the red and blue asymmetries of Hα spectra. We have tried to reproduce the observed asymmetry characteristics in specific flares. It is found that, besides the energy flux of nonthermal particles, the magnitude of spectral index and the height of the velocity field affect the line profile, the flare's atmospheric background model also has some influence on the line profile.  相似文献

Spectroscopic observations of Comet Hale-Bopp were made at the 2.6 m Shajn Telescope of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory. Some spectra were obtained with high spectral resolution, FWHM = 0.18–0.4Å, in the coude focus on February 22 and 26, 1997. The observations were made in selected spectral windows (4805–4872 Å,6528–6595 Å, 7186–7253 Å, 8276–8408 Å).The spectrograph slit was centered on the nucleus and had dimensions of 25.2 × 0.6 arcsec2 on the plane of the sky. The continuum spatial profiles were extremely asymmetrical toward the Sun. However, the continuum-subtracted spatial profiles of the molecular emissions were symmetrical relative to the nucleus, except for C2. The shape of the spatial profiles of the C2 emissions is similar to that one of continuum but is more flattened. So, there are evidences that dust can be an additional source of the C2 radicals in the cometary coma. The main aim of our research was identification of the cometary emissions. Using recent laboratory spectroscopic data we identified newlines of C2 associated with the transitions from high rotational levels in the 4805–4872 Å spectral region. We detected cometary Hα emission as well. Emissions of NH2, H2O+,and C2 (Phillips system) were found in the red spectral windows. Some emission features are still unassigned.  相似文献

Abstract— Two rare, spinel-bearing, Al-rich chondrules have been identified in new chondrite finds from Roosevelt County, New Mexico—RC 071 (L4) and RC 072 (L5). These chondrules have unusual mineralogies, dominated by highly and asymmetrically zoned, Al-Cr-rich spinels. Two alternatives exist to explain the origin of this zoning—fractional crystallization or metamorphism. It appears that fractional crystallization formed the zoning of the trivalent cations (Al, Cr) and caused a localized depletion in chromites around the large Al-Cr-rich spinels. The origin of the zoning of the divalent cations (Fe, Mg, Zn) is less certain. Diffusive exchange and partitioning of Fe and Mg between olivine and spinel during parent body metamorphism can explain the asymmetric zoning of these elements. Unfortunately, appropriate studies of natural and experimental systems to evaluate the formation of zoning of the divalent cations by fractional crystallization have not yet been conducted. The bulk compositions of the chondrules suggest affinities with the Na-Al-Cr-rich chondrules, as would be expected from the abundance of Al-Cr-rich spinels. Melting of rare and unusual precursors produced the compositions of Na-Al-Cr-rich chondrules, possibly including a spinel-rich precursor enriched in Cr2O3 and ZnO. The two chondrules we studied have larger modal abundances of Al-Cr-rich spinels than reported in other Na-Al-Cr-rich chondrules of similar composition, and Al-rich chondrules even more enriched in spinel are reported in the literature. These differences indicate that factors other than bulk composition control the mineralogy of the chondrules. The most important of these factors are the temperature to which the molten chondrule was heated and the cooling rate during crystallization. These two chondrules cooled rapidly from near the liquidus, as indicated by the zoning, occurrence and sizes of spinels, radiating chondrule textures and localized chromite depletions. The range of mineralogies in other Al-rich chondrules of similar composition reflect a range of peak temperatures and cooling rates. We see no reason to believe that this range is fundamentally different from the range of thermal histories experienced by “normal” Fe-Mg-rich chondrules.  相似文献

Stellar occultations observed by the Cassini/UVIS instrument provide unique data that probe the mesosphere and lower thermosphere of Titan at altitudes between 400 and 1400 km. This region is a site of complex photochemistry that forms hydrocarbon and nitrile species, and plays a crucial role in the formation of the organic hazes observed in the stratosphere, but has yet to be adequately characterized. We analyzed publicly available data obtained between flybys Tb in December 2004 and T58 in July 2009, with an emphasis on two stable occultations obtained during flybys T41 and T53. We derived detailed density profiles for CH4, C2H2, C2H4, C4H2, HCN, HC3N and C6H6 between ∼400 and 1200 km and extinction coefficients for aerosols between 400 and 900 km. Our analysis reveals the presence of extinction layers in the occultation data that are associated with large perturbations in the density profiles of the gaseous species and extinction profiles of the aerosols. These relatively stable features vary in appearance with location and change slowly over time. In particular, we identify a sharp extinction layer between 450 and 550 km that coincides with the detached haze layer. In line with recent images obtained by Cassini/ISS, the altitude of this layer changes rapidly around the equinox in 2009. Our results point to unexpected complexity that may have significant consequences for the dynamics and physical processes taking place in the upper atmosphere of Titan.  相似文献

Carbon monoxide is the second most abundant molecule after H2 in the molecular universe, and as such an abundant constituent of interstellar and Solar System ices. To trace the possibility of this molecule to be found in a clathrate hydrate inclusion compound, its pure phase FTIR spectrum is investigated. We confirm the formation of a type I clathrate structure whereas simple guest size estimates would favour a type II clathrate hydrate, revealing interactions of this molecule with its water network during clathrate formation. The observed cage vibrational downshift with respect to pure CO ice is within 5 cm−1. The temperature dependent wavenumber separation between the two enclathrated CO vibrational transitions in the two distinct type I clathrate cages is less than a wavenumber below 140 K, implying that the spectral simplification for detailed spectroscopic analysis of the individual profiles is a difficult task. The dynamics of the CO molecules in its cage change considerably from 5 K to 140 K. At temperatures above 30 K, the molecule is extremely mobile in the cages, as revealed by the infrared profile, significantly different from CO entrapped in water ice and different from observed profiles in astrophysical objects.  相似文献

We have used the ROSAT PSPC to study the properties of a sample of 24 X-ray-bright galaxy groups, representing the largest sample examined in detail to date. Hot plasma models are fitted to the spectral data to derive temperatures, and modified King models are used to characterize the surface brightness profiles.
In agreement with previous work, we find evidence for the presence of two components in the surface brightness profiles. The extended component is generally found to be much flatter than that observed in galaxy clusters, and there is evidence that the profiles follow a trend with system mass. We derive relationships between X-ray luminosity, temperature and optical velocity dispersion. The relation between X-ray luminosity and temperature is found to be L X∝ T 4.9, which is significantly steeper than the same relation in galaxy clusters. These results are in good agreement with pre-heating models, in which galaxy winds raise the internal energy of the gas, inhibiting its collapse into the shallow potential wells of poor systems.  相似文献

A principal goal of the Lunar Soil Characterization Consortium (LSCC) is to evaluate tools that might be successfully used in remote compositional analysis of the lunar surface. Mathematical methods are extremely valuable to assess whether variations exist in a statistically significant manner, independent of their interpretation. The bounds of widely used correlation of visible to near-infrared spectral parameters with composition are first defined and evaluated. We then evaluate direct (or indirect) links between the combined spectral properties of lunar mare soils and their compositional properties (elemental abundance and mineralogy) through a statistical analysis of the variance across each measurement using principal component analysis (PCA). We first separately analyze LSCC elemental abundance, mineralogy, and spectroscopy data (0.35 to 2.5 μm) using PCA to capture the variance of each system with a relatively small number of independent variables. With this compact set of independent variables for each type of data, we derive functions to link composition and spectroscopy. For these mare soils, one of the best empirical predictive capability is that for FeO. This is not surprising since the effect of ferrous iron on optical properties is well documented. Although Al2O3 has no direct effect on optical properties, its strong anticorrelation with FeO also produces a relatively high predictive capability from spectra. Similarly, a high accuracy in predicting the abundance of pyroxene is observed and should be expected since iron-bearing pyroxene is one of the most optically active components of lunar soil. The accuracy for predicting either TiO2 or ilmenite, on the other hand, is disappointing. High- and low-Ti soils are readily distinguished, but these statistics suggest that making subclass distinctions based on spectral predictions of TiO2 would be risky.  相似文献

We analyze the dynamics of the broadband frequency spectrum of 338 microwave bursts observed in the years 2001?–?2002 with the Owens Valley Solar Array. A subset of 38 strong microwave bursts that show a single spectral maximum are studied in detail. Our main goal is to study changes in spectral peak frequency ν pk with time. We show that, for a majority of these simple bursts, the peak frequency shows a high positive correlation with flux density – it increases on the rise phase in ≈83% of 24 bursts where it could be cleanly measured, and decreases immediately after the peak time in ≈62% of 34 bursts. This behavior is in qualitative agreement with theoretical expectations based on gyrosynchrotron self-absorption. However, for a significant number of events (≈30?–?36%) the peak frequency variation is much smaller than expected from self-absorption, or may be entirely absent. The observed temporal behavior of ν pk is compared with a simple model of gyrosynchrotron radio emission. We show that the anomalous behavior is well accounted for by the effects of Razin suppression, and further show how an analysis of the temporal evolution of ν pk can be used to uniquely determine the relative importance of self-absorption and Razin suppression in a given burst. The analysis technique provides a new, quantitative diagnostic for the gyrosynchrotron component of solar microwave bursts. Applying this analysis technique to our sample of bursts, we find that in most of the bursts (60%) the spectral dynamics of ν pk around the time of peak flux density is caused by self-absorption. On the other hand, for a significant number of events (≈70%), the Razin effect may play the dominant role in defining the spectral peak and dynamics of ν pk, especially on the early rise phase and late decay phase of the bursts.  相似文献

Four broad spectral features were identified in far-infrared limb spectra from the Cassini Composite Infrared Spectrometer (CIRS), two of which have not been identified before. The features are broader than the spectral resolution, which suggests that they are caused by particulates in Titan's stratosphere. We derive here the spectral properties and variations with altitude for these four features for six latitudes between 65° S and 85° N. Titan's main aerosol is called Haze 0 here. It is present at all wavenumbers in the far-infrared and is found to have a fractional scale height (i.e., the aerosol density scale height divided by the atmospheric density scale height) between 1.5 and 1.7 with a small increase in opacity in the north. A second feature around 140 cm−1 (Haze A) has similar spatial properties to Haze 0, but has a smaller fractional scale height of 1.2-1.3. Both Haze 0 and Haze A show an increase in retrieved abundance below 100 km. Two other features (Haze B around 220 cm−1 and Haze C around 190 cm−1) have a large maximum in their density profiles at 140 and 90 km, respectively. Haze B is much more abundant in the northern hemisphere compared to the southern hemisphere. Haze C also shows a large increase towards the north, but then disappears at 85° N.  相似文献

New thermal profiles of Jupiter are retrieved from recent far infrared spectral measurements and for H2 mixing ratios varying from 0.8 to 0.94. The effective temperature corresponding to the inferred thermal profile is 123.15 ± 0.35°K. Far-infrared brightness temperature spectra computed from these profiles are compared to experimental data including measurements made at high spectral resolution in the NH3ν2 band at 10 μm and in NH3 pure rotational bands between 40 and 110 μm. It is found that a strong depletion of NH3 does occur in the Jovian stratosphere and that ammonia seems to be undersaturated in the upper troposphere.  相似文献

Studies of the X-ray surface brightness profiles of clusters, coupled with theoretical considerations, suggest that the breaking of self-similarity in the hot gas results from an 'entropy floor', established by some heating process, which affects the structure of the intracluster gas strongly in lower-mass systems. By fitting analytical models for the radial variation in gas density and temperature to X-ray spectral images from the ROSAT PSPC and ASCA GIS, we have derived gas entropy profiles for 20 galaxy clusters and groups. We show that, when these profiles are scaled such that they should lie on top of one another in the case of self-similarity, the lowest-mass systems have higher-scaled entropy profiles than more massive systems. This appears to be due to a baseline entropy of depending on the extent to which shocks have been suppressed in low-mass systems. The extra entropy may be present in all systems, but is detectable only in poor clusters, where it is significant compared with the entropy generated by gravitational collapse. This excess entropy appears to be distributed uniformly with radius outside the central cooling regions.
We determine the energy associated with this entropy floor, by studying the net reduction in binding energy of the gas in low-mass systems, and find that it corresponds to a pre-heating temperature of 0.3 keV. Since the relationship between entropy and energy injection depends upon gas density, we are able to combine the excesses of 70140 keV cm2 and 0.3 keV to derive the typical electron density of the gas into which the energy was injected. The resulting value of implies that the heating must have happened prior to cluster collapse but after a redshift z 710. The energy requirement is well matched to the energy from supernova explosions responsible for the metals which now pollute the intracluster gas.  相似文献

This paper is devoted to study the dynamics of gravitational collapse in the Misner and Sharp formalism. We take non-viscous heat conducting charged anisotropic fluid as a collapsing matter with cylindrical symmetry. The dynamical equations are derived and coupled with the transport equation for heat flux obtained from the Müller-Israel-Stewart causal thermodynamic theory. We discuss the role of anisotropy, electric charge and radial heat flux over the dynamics of the collapse with the help of coupled equation.  相似文献

We have analyzed the continuum emission of limb spectra acquired by the Cassini/CIRS infrared spectrometer in order to derive information on haze extinction in the 3–0.02 mbar range (∼150–350 km). We focused on the 600–1420 cm−1 spectral range and studied nine different limb observations acquired during the Cassini nominal mission at 55°S, 20°S, 5°N, 30°N, 40°N, 45°N, 55°N, 70°N and 80°N. By means of an inversion algorithm solving the radiative transfer equation, we derived the vertical profiles of haze extinction coefficients from 17 spectral ranges of 20-cm−1 wide at each of the nine latitudes. At a given latitude, all extinction vertical profiles retrieved from various spectral intervals between 600 and 1120 cm−1 display similar vertical slopes implying similar spectral characteristics of the material at all altitudes. We calculated a mean vertical extinction profile for each latitude and derived the ratio of the haze scale height (Hhaze) to the pressure scale height (Hgas) as a function of altitude. We inferred Hhaze/Hgas values varying from 0.8 to 2.4. The aerosol scale height varies with altitude and also with latitude. Overall, the haze extinction does not show strong latitudinal variations but, at 1 mbar, an increase by a factor of 1.5 is observed at the north pole compared to high southern latitudes. The vertical optical depths at 0.5 and 1.7 mbar increase from 55°S to 5°N, remain constant between 5°N and 30°N and display little variation at higher latitudes, except the presence of a slight local maximum at 45°N. The spectral dependence of the haze vertical optical depth is uniform with latitude and displays three main spectral features centered at 630 cm−1, 745 cm−1 and 1390 cm−1, the latter showing a wide tail extending down to ∼1000 cm−1. From 600 to 750 cm−1, the optical depth increases by a factor of 3 in contrast with the absorbance of laboratory tholins, which is generally constant. We derived the mass mixing ratio profiles of haze at the nine latitudes. Below the 0.4-mbar level all mass mixing ratio profiles increase with height. Above this pressure level, the profiles at 40°N, 45°N, 55°N, at the edge of the polar vortex, display a decrease-with-height whereas the other profiles increase. The global increase with height of the haze mass mixing ratio suggest a source at high altitudes and a sink at low altitudes. An enrichment of haze is observed at 0.1 mbar around the equator, which could be due to a more efficient photochemistry because of the strongest insolation there or an accumulation of haze due to a balance between sedimentation and upward vertical drag.  相似文献
