Adequate access to healthy food has become a social issue due to the recent Great Recession and heightened levels of unemployment. Geographers have focused their attention on how to accurately evaluate food access and how to identify and delineate food deserts; that is, low-income neighborhoods where affordable and healthy food is lacking or limited. Findings of recent food access studies are, however, dramatically inconsistent. We argue that spatial scale and the level of aggregation used in constructing food access measures could account for a major portion of the varying results. We draw on an empirical study in the Tucson, Arizona, metropolitan area, to examine how varying geographic scales and aggregation methods affect food access assessment. We also provide an analysis to show how spatial scale and aggregation practices lead to inconsistent conclusions about food access and designation of food deserts. 相似文献

This research assesses neighborhood differences in access to supermarkets for the Portland, Oregon region. Five-year American Community Survey data for the 2006–2010 period are used to compare a travel time and distance measure of supermarket access for neighborhoods of concentrated poverty relative to other neighborhoods, taking into account their distance to the city center. Poor and nonpoor outer neighborhoods have longer average travel times and distances to nearby supermarkets than their more centralized counterparts. Poor outer neighborhoods fare better on travel distance than nonpoor outer neighborhoods do, but endure penalties in longer travel times. This research demonstrates the potential for variation in results across methods measuring access to neighborhood amenities and suggests that more nuanced methodology will be required for us to understand sociospatial disparities in access. 相似文献

Working-poor women face many challenges in their quest for economic self-sufficiency. Although welfare reform promises jobs, women do not have equal access to necessary services, including transportation. With the 2010 reauthorization of TANF (Temporary Asssistance for Needy Women), there is a need to develop a methodology that uses qualitative individual-level data to evaluate whether public transportation will serve working-poor single mothers in this quest for self-sufficiency. Using ethnography, travel diaries, and a GIS for a sample of women in the process of leaving welfare in Knoxville, Tennessee, travel behavior is examined both qualitatively and quantitatively in order to understand why they rarely use public transportation. Further research into the ways these women move around in a sprawling, medium-sized city reinforces and seeks to understand the extensive social networks working-poor mothers rely on. These women create communities of spatial necessity, bartering for basic needs to overcome transportation constraints. 相似文献

This article explored the relationship between the local food environment and walkability in the socioeconomically diverse, inner-ring suburbs of metropolitan Detroit. The availability and cost differentials of food were surveyed using a modified version of the Nutrition Environment Measures Survey for Stores (NEMS–S), and a geographic information system–based method was designed to map walkability relative to licensed food retail establishments. Results showed that minority communities lack access to fresh produce and nutritionally adequate foods, which is compounded by limited mobility. By incorporating local-based economic incentives, low-income communities can better align neighborhood goals of obtaining nutritionally adequate food (and other services) with economic opportunity. 相似文献

There is public concern that private ownership restricts public access to land for such uses as recreation and amenity value. There is little systematically collected information about the extent of unfavourable attitudes to public access in New Zealand. This case study analyses the responses of 94 farmers/foresters to a request to operate a series of large‐scale sporting events that traversed privately owned rural land. Issues of concern to landowners included visitor health and safety, disturbance to farm or forest management, and spread of disease. Despite these concerns 90 percent of the landowners who were approached allowed access to their land for recreation. An approach for handling possible landowner requests to charge for access for large‐scale events is suggested. 相似文献

文章反思了当代消费现实,将品牌原产地文化与在地消费文化作为品牌资产前置因素创建结构方程模型,对已有的跨地方餐饮品牌重塑模型进行了验证和拓展,进一步探讨不同的文化因素对于品牌重塑的影响作用机制。研究发现:品牌资产的持续提升促成了品牌跨地方的重塑过程。原产地形象对品牌知名度、品牌忠诚度和感知质量具有直接、显著的正向影响。在地消费文化只影响品牌知名度,对感知质量和品牌忠诚度没有直接的影响作用,但是在地消费文化可以通过品牌知名度作用于感知质量,影响品牌忠诚度,而后决定购买意愿。跨地方品牌重塑的案例实践说明当代饮食消费主义的务实性回归。虽然原产地形象的光环效应仍然存在,但是良好的品牌质量感知成为顾客品牌忠诚度和购买意愿的另一重要影响因素。 相似文献

Using a case study approach, this article explores the potential to increase public transit ridership via the expansion of Unlimited Access (UA) from a university‐ or employer‐based program to a community‐based program. UA partners universities or employers with regional transit organizations to provide free or discounted public transit service to students as well as employees and, potentially, to local community residents. A case study on the only known UA program failure highlights the importance of equitable cost attribution as well as stakeholder coordination and dedicated operations funds to the long‐term success of community‐based UA programs. 相似文献

粮食是社会经济发展的重要保障。运用耕地、粮食安全测度模型对2005~2014年河南省粮食安全状况进行评估。结果表明:① 2005~2014年,农民种粮积极性上升10%,耕地压力指数下降71%,农民经济收益上升 13%,耕地重心向西南移动。 ② 不同指标对耕地生产力的贡献率具有差异性。2005~2009年粮种比对耕地生产力的贡献率最大,2010~2014年贡献率发生转移,粮食播种面积单位产量对耕地生产力的贡献率最大;10 a间,粮种比的贡献(69.77%)相对粮食单产的贡献(39.28%)更能促进河南省耕地生产力的提高。 ③ 耕地压力受到自然、社会等多方面因素影响。各指标间相关关系较强,种粮积极性与农民耕地保护能力的二者呈现负相关关系。 相似文献

运用最小人均耕地面积及耕地压力指数的概念和计算模型对辽宁省1997—2007年间耕地资源动态变化进行了定量分析,应用灰色系统GM(1.1)预测模型对未来15年耕地压力变化进行了预测,据此提出了耕地利用和保护对策。研究结果表明:辽宁省工业大发展以来,特别是老工业基地的振兴和城市化进程的加快,虽然占用了一些耕地,但耕地压力指数不仅没有加剧,反而呈现下降趋势,主要原因是耕地生产力在不断提高。科技进步以及生态建设的完善是未来减轻耕地压力、保障耕地、人口和粮食可持续发展的重要途径。 相似文献

Geographers using qualitative methods face numerous challenges, including barriers to access to the research setting that emerge through the interactions among the researcher's identity, participants, and the research setting itself. However, few geographers have systematically traced, within a single research setting, (1) how barriers originate, (2) how they subsequently complicate the research enterprise, and (3) how they may potentially be overcome. Upon defining various generic barriers to access, I focus on the origins of, encounters with, and potential strategies to overcome two barriers (factions and spatiotemporal limits) during my research experiences at the Palms Mission, an emergency shelter in Central Los Angeles. Currently, the topic of food waste and its environmental impacts is attracting increasing attention among academic researchers. Based on an investigation of restaurants in Beijing, this study analyzes the quantities, structures, characteristics and costs of the agricultural resources related to food waste in the catering industry in Beijing. The results show that: (1) The average food waste per capita per meal is about 75.02 g (raw) for food away from home among Beijing urban residents, which means that about 10.52% of the food is wasted. (2) According to the quantitative ranking of different categories of food waste, vegetable is the most wasted, followed by meat, aquatic products, and grains. The foods in the other categories are wasted much less. (3) Food waste is affected by the restaurant type, as well as the number, gender, age, education level, and consumption motivation of the consumers. (4) Based on the estimated food waste per capita, about 417.92 thousand tons of food is wasted annually at the consumption stage in the catering industry in Beijing. This food waste amount is equivalent to approximately 765.53 tons of cereals which are wasted, and this represents 79.66% of cereals production and 13.15% of cereals consumption in Beijing. Estimated by the required land use, this amount of food waste means that the total production of approximately 166.12 thousand ha of arable land is being wasted in Beijing. 相似文献

The purpose of this article is to identify food deserts using a geographic information system (GIS)-based multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) approach in the city of Tehran. We have found that, compared to technocratic methods, GIS-based MCDM and taking into account people or their agents' opinions in the food deserts analysis leads to different results. Whereas measuring food deserts based on the distance to large retail food stores indicated that a large part of the northern neighborhoods of Tehran do not have access to large food stores, identifying the food desert through the GIS-based MCDM approach revealed that northern neighborhoods of Tehran have relatively good access to healthy, affordable food. In addition, results indicated that individual factors have a more effective role than environmental factors in food accessibility. Food accessibility analysis revealed that more than 26.6 percent of Tehran's people (2,049,796) are living in very low and low food accessibility areas. Accordingly, to achieve a relatively healthy and inclusive food environment, establishment of a food council, development of mobile food markets and farmers' markets, extension of public transport, enhancement of food literacy, and community-based development of small full-service grocery stores, especially in southern and western sections of Tehran, should be pursued. In addition, addressing Tehran's food desert issues would be incomplete without due attention to the wider political and economic environment. 相似文献

公共服务资源的空间配置问题一直存在效率与公平价值导向的博弈,空间综合人文社科的兴起,使其演化成一个空间优化问题。医疗资源空间配置的规划注重决策连续性,据此提出改进空间可达性的两步优化法。在农村地区资源有限的情况下,以空间可达性为主要指标,建立公平与效率导向下的二次规划模型,通过重新选址和设定规模以保证居民获得就医机会的最大公平和效率,并以湖北省仙桃市为案例进行应用研究。结果表明,新选地址和规模优化结果能使仙桃市医疗资源空间配置的公平性和效率性得到显著提高,2个步骤相结合,使其成为真正的混合优化模型,达到效率和公平平衡的双重目标。 相似文献

This article discusses what we know about some of the main food safety risks in China. The focus is on role of the China Total Diet Study (TDS) as a tool for food safety risk assessment and the selection of priorities for monitoring. We compare the strengths and weaknesses of the TDS with those of two other major sources of information about food safety and nutrition: the National Food Safety Contamination Monitoring Network (FSCN) and the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), showing how the different methods they use produce different but complementary information. We then use an analysis of lead, cadmium and pesticide residues to demonstrate that, despite its shortcomings, the TDS provides the most reliable source of information about the actual dietary intake of harmful substances. 相似文献

从城市异质性视角,以一线城市上海和二线城市南京为例,基于2013年长三角地区社会变迁调查和南京市住房调查数据,利用Logistic模型,剖析了两地青年住房产权获得的影响因素及其差异。研究发现,两个城市青年住房产权获得的影响因素存在较大差异。与南京相比,上海青年居民的住房获得存在更大的区位和制度壁垒,受城市区位、户口、制度因素影响更大,而受教育水平、工作流动性等市场因素以及年龄、是否育有子女等生命历程因素的影响较小。上海,作为一线城市,户口制度仍然处于精准严控阶段,落户门槛相对较高,另外住房价格高企,上海的青年群体在住房产权获得中同时面临着制度层面和市场层面的双重严苛考验。而在二线城市南京,户口政策相对较为宽松,青年群体的住房产权获得所面临的制度性障碍较小,而市场因素更加主导。 相似文献

以新疆策勒县为例,对当地农牧民在封育禁牧影响下的经济行为响应及其影响因素利用对数线性模型进行定量分析,以研究不同背景条件的农牧民在进行行为选择时的规律性因素。研究表明,农户所属区域及其拥有的资本水平是农户对禁牧行为响应的显著影响因素;农户所属区域及当地的技术服务培训等政策配套水平是农户对禁牧态度的显著影响因素;农牧民畜牧生产观念的转变和草场承包责任制的落实是实施禁牧政策的先决条件。建议政府针对区域及农户的资本差异进行分类补偿;当地政府可整合利用各相关部门的项目资源和资金进行禁牧的政策前期和推广工作。 相似文献

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is an online public access database that allows for the collaborative collection of local geographic information. We employ this mapping technology to discuss a new social theory of poverty that moves away from income poverty to an economy that directly produces individuals' basic needs. Focusing on urban farming in Philadelphia as an example, we use OSM to support the argument that money, land, labor, and capital do not limit food production in the city. OSM is a type of “commons” that allows community members to depict features of interest to them that might otherwise be underrepresented in official or commercially produced maps such as Google Maps. Using the concept of facilitated volunteered geographic information (VGI) we developed an open framework for combining residents' local knowledge of food resources with expert guidance in data input. We believe this helps overcome problems with ad hoc data submission efforts to which collaborative online projects are susceptible. The program for “tagging” food resources in OSM was deployed in a public “map-a-thon” event we organized in Philadelphia, bringing together technical experts and food enthusiasts. To share the results, we present the Philly Fresh Food Map as an interactive online Web map that can be used and updated by the public. 相似文献

运用耦合协调模型、地理探测器等分析方法测度了中国中部重点农区——河南省2006—2018年各市域新型城镇化与粮食安全的时空耦合协调水平及具体类型特征,并定量探测了两系统协调发展的影响要素。研究表明:① 2006—2018年河南省新型城镇化与粮食安全耦合协调度从0.339稳步上升到0.784,基本实现了“濒临失调→中度协调”的跨越,空间上呈“北部高南部低、中部高东西低”的特征。② 河南省各市域新型城镇化与粮食安全耦合特征分异明显,长期为粮食安全滞后型市域占比29%,长期为新型城镇化发展滞后型市域占比53%。③ 影响新型城镇化与粮食安全耦合协调度的核心要素转向土地与劳动力资源,外部经济变化对其协调发展所带来的敏感性逐步降低,科技进步始终是新型城镇化与粮食安全协调发展的促进力。研究旨为中部农区在新型城镇化发展过程中,扛稳国家粮食安全政治责任、担当保障国家粮食安全供给的使命提供参考。 相似文献

现代性、全球化和城市化催生了当代的怀旧现象并使其成为国内外学界关注的重要话题。涵盖人们衣食住行和精神文化消费领域的怀旧消费风靡全球,以城市怀旧为主题的特殊消费空间和文化空间作为怀旧消费实践过程中的时空综合体,其地方建构的过程及社会文化意义值得文化地理学者进行探讨。文章以广州百年老字号西餐厅太平馆为案例,通过参与式观察和半结构式访谈等质性研究方法,并收集相关媒体报道作为资料来源。从怀旧餐厅的物质空间建构和情感空间建构2个维度对其地方建构的过程,以及此空间与消费者之间的互动关系进行探究。研究表明,太平馆作为怀旧消费空间,经营者通过对物质空间的主体性建构再现地方记忆,使得地方感得以再生产;而与此同时消费者则通过在怀旧空间中的消费实践获得归属和认同等情感体验,并成为了情感空间建构的积极主体,通过对太平馆的地方依恋与地方认同积极推动怀旧地方的持续建构。 相似文献
