This paper interprets the mass spectrometric, i.r. absorption and NMR data for 22 compounds obtained from a polar fraction of Green River shale. The major constituents analyzed are believed to be of the following compositional types: CnH2nO (cyclohexanols and chain isoprenoid ketones), CnH2n?10O (tetralones and indanones), CnH2n?7N (tetrahydroquinolines), CnH2n?11N (quinolines), CnH2n?1NO (alkoxypyrrolines), CnH2n?5NO2 (maleimides), CnH2n?8 (tetralins), CnH2n?12 (naphthalenes) and CnH2n?14 (benzylbenzenes). This work expands the present information about nitrogen, oxygen and aromatic constituents indigenous to Green River shale.  相似文献

Aromatic hydrocarbons from benzene extracts of New Albany Shale were characterized. A biomarker that has a molecular weight of 546 and a structural configuration consistent with that of an alkyl-aromatic hydrocarbon (C40H66) was tentatively identified. It was found that the relative concentrations of the biomarker are indicative of differing levels of thermal maturity of the shale organic matter. A 40-carbon bicyclic carotenoid (C40H48) is proposed as the geochemical precursor of this biomarker. Thermal maturity of the shale organic matter can also be differentiated by observing differences in “fingerprints” as obtained by field-ionization mass spectrometry on the aromatic hydrocarbon fraction. Using this technique, we found that the more mature shale samples from southeastern Illinois contain more low molecular weight extractable aromatic hydrocarbons and the less mature shale samples from northwestern Illinois contain more high molecular weight extractable aromatic hydrocarbons. It was demonstrated that field-ionization and tandem mass spectrometric techniques through fingerprint and individual compound identification, are useful for shale aromatic hydrocarbon fraction characterization and for thermal maturation interpretation.  相似文献

The present study reports the biomarker distribution of condensate belonging to the early Cretaceous time frame using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The early Cretaceous palaeoenvironment was inscribed into these molecular fossils which reflected the source and conditions of deposition of the condensate. The saturate fraction of the condensate is characterized by normal alkanes ranging from n-C9 to n-C29 (CPI-1.13), cycloalkanes and C14 and C15 sesquiterpanes. The aromatic fraction comprises of naphthalene, phenanthrene, their methylated derivatives and cyclohexylbenzenes. Isohexylalkylnaphthalenes, a product of rearrangement process of terpenoids, is detected in the condensate. Several aromatic sesquiterpenoids and diterpenoids have been recorded. Dihydro-ar-curcumene, cadalene and ionene form the assemblage of sesquiterpenoids which are indicative of higher plant input. Aromatic diterpenoid fraction comprises of simonellite and retene. These compounds are also indicative of higher plants, particularly conifer source which had been a predominant flora during the Cretaceous time.  相似文献

This study describes a new approach for characterizing high molecular weight compounds in Type I kerogen, involving both nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and Fourier transform ion cyclotron mass spectrometry (FTICR-MS). Kerogen isolated from the Mahogany zone of the Green River Formation was examined directly using high resolution magic angle spinning (HRMAS) NMR to obtain liquid-like multidimensional spectra. It was then successively extracted with n-pentane, dichloromethane and pyridine. Pyridine extraction was also performed for comparison with the successive extractions. Using solid-state NMR, we show that the sum of the successive extracts and the single pyridine extract are quantitatively representative of the unextracted kerogen. This suggests that a non-invasive characterization of Green River kerogen can be obtained by examining the soluble extracts, all of which were subjected to ESI-FTICR-MS to identify a wide series of compounds. Series of polar CHO, CHOS and CHON compounds between C12 and C50+ were found. In all the extracts the two homologous series of acids (CnH2nO2 and CnH2n−2O4) dominated. Collision-induced dissociation was also employed to identify the different functional groups comprising the different series. The CHO series contained carboxylic acid and alkoxyl groups, whereas the CHOS and CHON series contained sulfoxide groups and nitrile-type compounds. The results also show that pyridine extraction can be used either for screening a large series of samples or for the specific study of CHO compounds. However for a detailed and complete study of the different homologous series we recommend using the successive extraction protocol.  相似文献

Organic-inorganic interactions between hydrocarbons and most minerals in deeply buried reservoirs remain unclear. In this study, gold capsules and fused silica capillary capsules (FSCCs) with different combinations of nC16H34, water (distilled water, CaCl2 water) and minerals (quartz, feldspar, calcite, kaolinite, smectite, and illite) were heated at 340 °C for 3–10 d, to investigate the evolution and reaction pathways of the organic–inorganic interactions in different hot systems. After heating, minerals exhibited little alteration in the anhydrous systems. Mineral alterations, however, occurred obviously in the hydrous systems. Different inorganic components affected nC16H34 degradation differently. Overall, water promoted the free-radical thermal-cracking reaction and step oxidation reaction but suppressed the free-radical cross-linking reaction. The impact of CaCl2 water on the nC16H34 degradation was weaker than the distilled water as high Ca2+ concentration suppressed the formation of free radicals. The presence of different waters also affects the impact of different minerals on nC16H34 degradation, via its impact on mineral alterations. In the anhydrous nC16H34-mineral systems, calcite and clays catalyzed generation of low-molecular-weight (LMW) alkanes, particularly the clays. Quartz, feldspar, and calcite catalyzed generation of high-molecular-weight (HMW) alkanes and PAHs, whereas clays catalyzed the generation of LMW alkanes and mono-bicyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (M-BAHs). In the hydrous nC16H34-distilled water–mineral systems, all minerals but quartz promoted nC16H34 degradation to generate more LMW alkanes, less HMW alkanes and PAHs. In the nC16H34-CaCl2 water–mineral systems, the promotion impact of minerals was weaker than that in the systems with distilled water. This study demonstrated the generation of different hydrocarbons with different fluorescence colors in the different nC16H34-water–mineral systems after heating for the same time, implying that fluorescence colors need to be interpreted carefully in investigation of hydrocarbon charging histories and oil origins in deeply buried reservoirs. Besides, the organic–inorganic interactions in different nC16H34-water–mineral systems proceeded in different pathways at different rates, which likely led to preservation of liquid hydrocarbons at different depth (temperature). Thus, quantitative investigations of the reaction kinetics in different hydrocarbon-water-rock systems are required to improve the prediction of hydrocarbon evolution in deeply buried hydrocarbon reservoirs.  相似文献

Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) using a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system was studied for the separation and enrichment of steroid and hopanoid hydrocarbons from crude oil for stable carbon isotope analysis. A crude oil sample was pretreated using silica gel chromatography and 5A molecular sieve to remove polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and n-alkanes. The GPC behavior of both the pretreated saturated hydrocarbon fraction of the oil and standard steroid [5α(H), 14α(H), 17α(H) C27–C29 steranes], hopanoid [17α(H) C27 trisnorhopane, 17α(H), 21β(H) C29–C32 hopanes] and triterpenoid [18α(H)-oleanane, gammacerane] mixtures were examined. The results indicate that 17α(H), 21β(H) hopanes as well as steranes could be enriched efficiently using GPC and that they could be obtained without removing n-alkanes from the oil saturated hydrocarbon fraction. The GPC behavior of steroid and triterpenoid hydrocarbons was controlled by molecular size and shape.  相似文献

The chemical composition of Cretaceous leaf remains showing exceptionally well preserved cuticles was investigated using pyrolysis gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (Py-GC–MS) and thermally assisted hydrolysis methylation (THM)-GC–MS. Samples of Coniferales (Frenelopsis) and Ginkgoales (Nehvizdya penalveri) leaf remains were collected from freshwater and coastal marine depositional environments. Material for pyrolysis included (i) untreated leaves and cuticles obtained after extraction from mineral rock matrix and bleaching, (ii) kerogen fraction from both materials, (iii) non-hydrolysable fraction from kerogen. The THM-GC–MS data from untreated leaves and bleached cuticles show that the fossil cuticle geopolymer essentially released aliphatic components upon thermal treatment, with a dominance of fatty acids (FAs) and n-alkanes/n-alkenes. The FAs are essentially resistant to bleaching and remain after solvent extraction. They occur mainly as short chain compounds ranging from C6 to C16 and with maximum abundance at C8–C9. The n-alkanes/n-alkenes from kerogen and the non-hydrolysable residue occur mainly as short chain compounds in the range C10–C16, with the highest abundance at C9–C12. The THM-GC–MS pyrograms of the fossil cuticles differ from those of cutan from fresh living plants. They support the preservation model via polymerization of monomers derived from cutin or from unsaturated cell FAs.  相似文献

A mixture of C33–C37 botryococcenes and partially reduced derivatives was isolated from ca. 32,000 year old sediment from Lake Masoko, a freshwater crater lake in the Rungwe Range area (Tanzania). Botryococcenes and derivatives accounted for 246 μg/g dry sediment and for >92% of the hydrocarbon fraction; 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and mass spectrometry allowed the structure of the dominant botryococcene (43% of hydrocarbon fraction) to be established, after purification using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The compound is a novel tetraunsaturated dicyclic C34 botryococcene and is named C34 masokocene. Overall, the structures of six other novel botryococcenes and four partially reduced derivatives were tentatively assigned. The structures of the new biomarkers, three dicyclic C34–C36 botryococcenes (or masokocenes) and seven monocyclic C34–C37 analogues are discussed along with their biosynthetic relationship. The high abundance of such polyunsaturated compounds preserved in 32,000 year old sediment from the lake indicates an aquatic ecosystem dominated at the time by the green alga Botryococcus braunii, as well very good preservation of the organic matter.  相似文献

The Buller Coalfield (South Island, New Zealand) is an inverted late Paleogene Basin that contains middle Eocene bituminous coals which exhibit considerable variation in both coal rank (across-basin), and coal type (in-seam). Twenty-two fractionated bitumen extracts of Brunner Coal Measures coal samples from 12 drillholes were analyzed by GC and GC–MS to characterize the effect of coal rank and type on conventional hydrocarbon maturity indices at the beginning and end of the oil window (0.56–1.26% Romax). The Carbon Preference Index, pristane/phytane and isoprenoid/n-alkane ratios evolve throughout the high volatile bituminous B rank stage, while other biomarker ratios [18α(H)-22,29,30-trisnorneohopane/17α(H)-22,29,30-trisnorhopane (Ts/Tm), 18α(H),21β(H)-30-norneohopane (C29 Ts)/17α(H),21β(H)-30-norhopane and C30 diahopane/hopane] do not show appreciable change in value until medium volatile bituminous rank. Various aromatic based ratios appear to be more effective in delineating rank throughout the entire oil window; in particular the Methylphenanthrene Index and vitrinite reflectance are positively correlated over the entire bituminous rank range. However, subtle changes in depositional conditions (variable coal type) complicate these rank estimates. Within a given coal seam, variation in CPI, isoprenoid/n-alkane and hopane/sterane ratios appear to be related to the hydrogen content of the coal, while the homohopane index and the oleanane/hopane ratio covary with sulfur content. As with depressed vitrinite reflectance values, MPI is similarly lowered in the perhydrous samples. The mechanisms that control these hydrocarbon parameters during deposition and diagenesis are complex and convoluted, however, changes in bacterial activity and community (with marine incursion) appear to play an important role. Due to these anomalies, none of the hydrocarbon maturity indices calculated can be singularly used to constrain coal rank.  相似文献

Most research on long chain methyl ketones has focused on their origins and distributions. Their application in paleoclimate studies is less common than that of other n-alkyl lipids. The goal of this research was to explore this potential by studying n-alkan-2-ones from the Hani peat sequence in northeastern China. They were identified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and showed a distribution ranging from C19 to C31 with a strong odd/even predominance. This type of distribution is considered to derive from Sphagum and microbial oxidation of n-alkanes. Comparison with climate sensitive indicators and macrofossil analysis shows that microbial oxidation of n-alkanes derived from higher plants was enhanced during the warm early Holocene period. This led us to develop three n-alkan-2-one proxies - C27/ΣC23-31 (C27/HMW-KET), carbon preference index (CPIH-KET) and average chain length (ACL(27-31)-KET) - as possible indicators of paleoclimate in the peat-forming environment. These proxies, in combination with C27n-alkane δD values and peat cellulose δ18O records, might allow examination of paleo-ecosystem behavior during climatic evolution in northeastern China over the past 16,000 yr.  相似文献

An in situ measurement method for simultaneous determination of carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios in organic matter was developed by secondary ion mass spectrometry with a spatial resolution of ~ 12 μm. Secondary ion intensities of 12C?2, 12C13C?, 12C14N? and 12C15N? were simultaneously measured by three Faraday cups and one electron multiplier. Ions of 12C2H? were measured to monitor hydride interferences and to correct for mass bias. The analytical precisions of δ13C and δ15N values of a reference material (UWLA‐1 anthracite) were 0.16‰ and 0.56‰, respectively (2s). A negative correlation was observed between the mass bias of carbon and 12C2H?/12C?2 ratios of examined reference materials. In contrast, there was no correlation between mass bias and hydrogen concentration for nitrogen. The δ13CVPDB and δ15NAir values of twenty‐two individual globules of organic matter, found in carbonate rock of the 1878 Ma Gunflint Formation, were determined by the new procedure, ranging from ?33.8‰ to ?33.3‰ and +4.2‰ to 5.8‰, respectively. Means of δ13CVPDB and δ15NAir values, ?33.5 ± 0.25‰ and +5.2 ± 0.81‰, are consistent with reported values from bulk sample analysis within analytical precision.  相似文献

A sample of the sediment-water column interface which lies on the continental shelf under the Peru upwelling regime, has been examined for fatty acids, fatty alcohols, ketones and hydrocarbons. Fatty acids were the most abundant compound class, ranging from C12-C24, with 16:0 as the major component (765.5 μg/g dry sediment). The alcohols were dominated by 3,7,11,15-tetramethylhexadeca-2-en-ol (phytol), with even-chain n-alcohols in the range C14-C20. The ketones consisted of C37-C39 di- and tri-unsaturated alken-2-ones and alken-3-ones. Both alkanes and alkenes were present in the hydrocarbon fraction; the alkanes ranging from C13 — C20 and comprising both straight chain and isoprenoid compounds; the alkenes consisting of isomeric pairs of C25 branched trienes and tetraenes. The data indicate that the organic content has been contributed very largely from marine sources (probably mainly from phytoplankton and bacteria), showing little terrigenous influence. The presence of labile compounds such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (with two to six double bonds), implies that the sediment has undergone very little diagenetic alteration, and the lipids are probably largely unchanged from the state in which they actually reached the sediment. They may therefore serve as a useful baseline in assessing diagenesis in older sediments, where diagenetic transformations are more advanced.  相似文献

Small diameter core samples were taken from outcrops of the Permian Phosphoria Formation and the Cretaceous Pierre Shale of the Western United States to determine the effects of weathering on organic matter in shale outcrops. While the Pierre Shale core showed no evidence of weathering, the Phosphoria Formation showed significant reduction of overall organic content and pronounced changes in organic composition over the near-surface interval of the core. Total organic carbon is lower by as much as 60% over the upper 2 ft of the core. Chloroform-soluble organic matter and total hydrocarbon (C15+) concentrations are 50% lower over this same interval. The ratio of saturated to aromatic hydrocarbons decreases steadily with core depth over the upper 2.6 ft of the core. Aromatic hydrocarbons are enriched in the stable carbon-13 isotope by an average of 1.7%. over this same interval. Shallow core samples also show a loss of n-paraffins relative to branched/cyclic compounds in the saturated C15+ fraction.Although the extent of weathering is variable, certain characteristic effects are recognizable and can be applied to the interpretation of outcrop data in organic geochemical studies.  相似文献

We report on the thermochemistry of proton hydration by water in the gas phase both experimentally using high-pressure mass spectrometry (HPMS) and theoretically using multilevel G3, G3B3, CBS-Q, CBS-QB3, CBS/QCI-APNO as well as density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Gas phase hydration enthalpies and entropies for protonated water cluster equilibria with up to 7 waters (i.e., n ? 7H3O+·(H2O)n) were observed and exhibited non-monotonic behavior for successive hydration steps as well as enthalpy and entropy anomalies at higher cluster rank numbers. In particular, there is a significant jump in the stepwise enthalpies and entropies of cluster formation for n varying from 6 to 8. This behavior can be successfully interpreted using cluster geometries obtained from quantum chemical calculations by considering the number of additional hydrogen bonds formed at each hydration step and simultaneous weakening of ion-solvent interaction with increasing cluster size. The measured total hydration energy for the attachment of the first six water molecules around the hydronium ion was found to account for more than 60% of total bulk hydration free energy.  相似文献

The Murchison meteorite contains aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons similar to those made in static Fischer-Tropsch-type syntheses. Principal compound classes above C8 are n-alkanes, mono- and dimethylalkanes, alkenes, alkylbenzenes and -naphthalenes. Below C8, n-alkanes are virtually absent; instead, benzene, toluene, branched alkanes dominate. The CH4/C2H6 ratio is greater than 30, possibly greater than 700. Isoprenoids from C17 to C20 occur in a surface rinse but not in subsequent extracts and appear to be terrestrial contaminants. Thiophenes, porphyrin-like pigments and chlorobenzenes were also found; the latter appear to be contaminants. In the Allende meteorite, only methane, benzene, toluene and an aromatic polymer seem to be indigenous.  相似文献

The organic geochemical methods of hydrocarbon prospecting involve the characterization of sedimentary organic matter in terms of its abundance, source and thermal maturity, which are essential prerequisites for a hydrocarbon source rock. In the present study, evaluation of organic matter in the outcrop shale samples from the Semri and Kaimur Groups of Vindhyan basin was carried out using Rock Eval pyrolysis. Also, the adsorbed low molecular weight hydrocarbons, methane, ethane, propane and butane, were investigated in the near surface soils to infer the generation of hydrocarbons in the Vindhyan basin. The Total Organic Carbon (TOC) content in shales ranges between 0.04% and 1.43%. The S1 (thermally liberated free hydrocarbons) values range between 0.01–0.09 mgHC/gRock (milligram hydrocarbon per gram of rock sample), whereas the S2 (hydrocarbons from cracking of kerogen) show the values between 0.01 and 0.14 mgHC/gRock. Based on the Tmax (temperature at highest yield of S2) and the hydrogen index (HI) correlations, the organic matter is characterized by Type III kerogen. The adsorbed soil gas, CH4 (C1), C2H6 (C2), C3H8 (C3) and nC4H10, (nC4), concentrations measured in the soil samples from the eastern part of Vindhyan basin (Son Valley) vary from 0 to 186 ppb, 0 to 4 ppb, 0 to 5 ppb, and 0 to 1 ppb, respectively. The stable carbon isotope values for the desorbed methane (δ13C1) and ethane (δ13C2) range between −45.7‰ to −25.2‰ and −35.3‰ to −20.19‰ (VPDB), respectively suggesting a thermogenic source for these hydrocarbons. High concentrations of thermogenic hydrocarbons are characteristic of areas around Sagar, Narsinghpur, Katni and Satna in the Son Valley. The light hydrocarbon concentrations (C1–C4) in near surface soils of the western Vindhyan basin around Chambal Valley have been reported to vary between 1–2547 ppb, 1–558 ppb, 1–181 ppb, 1–37 ppb and 1–32 ppb, respectively with high concentrations around Baran-Jhalawar-Bhanpur-Garot regions (Kumar et al., 2006). The light gaseous hydrocarbon anomalies are coincident with the wrench faults (Kota – Dholpur, Ratlam – Shivpuri, Kannod – Damoh, Son Banspur – Rewa wrench) in the Vindhyan basin, which may provide conducive pathways for the migration of the hydrocarbons towards the near surface soils.  相似文献

Hydrocarbon results from gas chromatography of 60 recent sediment and 10 benthic algae samples delineate two distinct shelf environments in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico.Sediments off Florida (shell hashes and sands) have moderate amounts of lipids/total sediment (average 113ppm ± 80%) but low hydrocarbon levels (average 3.06 ppm ± 41%). Aliphatic hydrocarbons are dominated by a series of branched or cyclic, unsaturated C25 isomers. The major n-alkane is n-C17. The n-alkane and isoprenoid patterns are consistent with a marine hydrocarbon source.Sediments closer to the Mississippi River (silts and clays) contain large amounts of lipids (average 232 ppm ± 53%) and hydrocarbons (average 11.7 ppm ± 55%) to total sediment. Aliphatic hydrocarbons are mainly odd carbon number high molecular weight n-alkanes, indicating a terrigenous hydrocarbon source. Isoprenoids are present in greater abundance than in sediments off Florida (n-C17/ pristane and n-C18/phytane ratios ~2to 3). Relatively large amounts of n-C16, together with an even distribution of n-alkanes in the range C14–C20 and a substantial unresolved envelope all point to a fossil fuel input to the Mississippi samples.Samples off the Alabama coast show intermediate characteristics.  相似文献

The solubility of gold in aqueous sulphide solutions has been determined from pH20°C ≈ 4 to pH20°C ≈ 9.5 in the presence of a pyrite-pyrrhotite redox buffer at temperatures from 160 to 300°C and 1000 bar pressure. Maximum solubilities were obtained in the neutral region of pH as, for example, with mNaHS = 0.15 m, pH20°C = 5.96, T = 309°C, P = 1000 bar where a gold solubility of 225 mg/kg was obtained. It was concluded that three thio gold complexes contributed to the solubility. The complex Au2(HS)2S2? predominated in alkaline solution, the Au(HS)2? complex occurred in the neutral pH region, and in the acid pH region, it was concluded with less certainty that the Au(HS)° complex was present. Formation constants calculated forAu2(HS)2S2? and Au (HS)2? emphasize their high stability. In the temperature range from 175 to 250°C, values of for Au2(HS)2S2? vary from ?53.0 to 47.9 (±1.6) and from ?23.1 to ?19.5 ( ± 1.5) for Au(HS)2?. Equilibrium constante for the dissolution reactions, Au° + H2S + HS? ? Au(HS)2? + 12H2 and 2Au° + H2S + 2H8? ? Au(HS)2? + H2 vary from pKm = +2.4 to +2.55 (±0.10) for Au2(HS)2S2? and from pKn = + 1.29 to + 1.19 (±0.10) for Au(HS)2? over the temperature range 175 to 250°C. Enthalpies of these dissolution reactions were calculated to be ΔHm° = ?5.2 ±2.0 kcal/mol and ΔHn° = +1.7 ±2.0 kcal/mol respectively. It was concluded that gold is probably transported in hydrothermal ore solutions as both thio and chloro complexes and may be deposited in response to changes in temperature, pressure, pH, oxidation potential of the system and total sulphur concentration.  相似文献

Three fractions of organic matter: lipid (benzene:methanol-extractable), humic acid (alkali-extractable) and kerogen (residue) were extracted from a young marine sediment (Tanner Basin, offshore southern California) and heated for different times (5–116 hr) and temperatures (150°–410°C). The volatile (gases) and liquid products, as well as residual material, were then analyzed. On a weight basis, the lipid fraction produced 58% of the total identified n-alkanes, the kerogen fraction 41%, and the humic acid <1%. Whereas n-alkanes produced from lipid show a CPI > 1.0, those produced by thermal alteration of kerogen display a CPI < 1.0. The volatiles produced by heating the lipid and humic acid fractions were largely CO2 and water, whereas those produced from heated kerogen also included methane, hydrogen gas and small amounts of C2–C4 hydrocarbons. A mechanism for hydrocarbon production due to the thermal alteration of organic constituents of marine sediment is discussed.  相似文献
