The flare of 11 November, 1980, 1725 UT occurred in a magnetically complex region. It was preceded by some ten minutes by a gradual flare originating over the magnetic inversion line, close to a small sunspot. This seems to have triggered the main flare (at 70 000 km distance) which originated between a large sunspot and the inversion line. The main flare started at 172320 UT with a slight enhancement of hard X-rays (E > 30 keV) accompanied by the formation of a dark loop between two H bright ribbons. In 3–8 keV X-rays a southward expansion started at the same time, with - 500 km s –1. At the same time a surge-like expansion started. It was observable slightly later in H, with southward velocities of 200 km s–1. The dark H loop dissolved at 1724 UT at which time several impulsive phenomena started such as a complex of hard X-ray bursts localized in a small area. At the end of the impulsive phase at 172540 UT, a coronal explosion occurred directed southward with an initial expansion velocity of 1800 km s–1, decreasing in 40 s to 500 km s–1.Now at Fokker Aircraft Industries, Schiphol, The Netherlands.  相似文献

A mathematical analysis of the Newtonian and parametrized Post-Newtonian tidal stresses is applied to tidal triggering mechanism for earthquakes. We investigate a possible correlation.The procedure used for calculating the solid earth tidal stress is described by the Newtonian theory and the parametrized Post-Newtonian metric. We calculate tidal stress histories for earthquakes between 1908 and 1991 in Greek area. Although no significant tidal correlation was found for the entire data set, which contained earthquakes of magnitudeM 6.0, a fairly striking correlation was observed for an earthquake-tide correlation by computing tidal functions at the time and place of the earthquake events. A successful correlation as used in this paper means that: earthquake events occur during a certain part of the tidal cycle.Also, we have studied a variation of the gravitational constant according to the variation of the velocity of the Earth and the uniform velocity of the Solar System with respect to a preferred Universal rest frame.This work has been supported by the Greek General Secretariat of Research and Technology under Grant No. 89e160.  相似文献

This paper describes the collection, reduction, and analysis of 0.4–1.0 m Mars imaging spectroscopy data obtained during the 1988 and 1990 oppositions from Mauna Kea Observatory and provides a general outline for the acquisition and analysis of similar imaging spectroscopy data sets. The U.H. 2.24-m Wide Field Grism CCD Spectrograph was used to collect 13 three-dimensional image cubes covering 90% of the planet south of 50°N in the 0.4–0.8 m region (/=245 at 0.6 m) and covering 55% of the planet south of 50°N in the 0.5–1.0 m region (/=293 at 0.75 m). Spectra extracted from these image cubes reveal the detailed character of the martian near-UV to visible spectrum. Images at red wavelengths reveal the classical albedo markings at 100–500 km spatial resolution while images at blue wavelengths show little surface feature contrast and are dominated by condensate clouds/hazes and polar ice. Many of the data acquisition, reduction, and analysis steps discussed here are new or unique to imaging spectroscopy data sets. These techniques exploit the information contained within the spatial domain of data such as these, thus allowing more traditional point-spectral analysis techniques to be expanded into an imaging format.  相似文献

Einstein's equations of general relativity are solved in terms of gravitational potential derivatives, withT equal to mass and/or field energy such thatT 0 outside a body. The line element equation then describes the variance of test particle internal geometrical structure and time-rate due to work done in a field, not the space-time curvature. Specific properties of gravitational fields and bodies come from this new solution: (a) The gravitational field consists of electromagnetic spin 2 gravitons which produce the gravitational force through the magnetic vector. (b) The gravitational mass is the Newtonian mass, not the relativistic mass, of a moving body. (c) An action principle exists in gravitation theory. The equivalent widths of the oxygen lines at 7774 and 8446 and of H (and some H) have been measured for 22 early-type, emission-line stars. A strong correlation between H and 8446 intensities has been found, although there is no such correlation between H and 7774. This confirms the probability that Bowen's mechanism is operative (the neutral oxygen 33 D state is overpopulated because the excitation energy of Ly- nearly coincides with that of theOi 1025 line). The possibility of using 8446 and H equivalent widths for a comparison of oxygen to hydrogen abundances in these stars is discussed.  相似文献

An inhomogeneous model neutron star with a variable density profile of the type 0(r)=c[1–(2/3)r2/R2]exp(–r2/R2) is considered, where c is the central density, R is the star's radius, and is the inhomogeneity parameter in the radial mass distribution. This parameterization adequately reproduces the results of numerical evolutionary calculations of the density profile and enables one to obtain in analytical form the parameters of hydrostatic equilibrium and the eigenmodes of nonradial oscillations of a nonrotating neutron star, modeled by a spherical mass of incompressible, inviscid liquid. It is shown that a characteristic manifestation of the star's inhomogeneity is the presence of a stable dipole f-mode, the lowest one in the spectrum of natural oscillations. The presence of this mode serves as a general and primary criterion that evidently distinguishes all inhomogeneous hydrodynamic models from the homogeneous Kelvin model, in which the quadrupole mode is the lowest stable mode. Estimates obtained for the periods of nonradial pulsations coincide with the periods of micropulses observed in the average pulse profiles of c-pulsars. This suggests that the detected variations in emission intensity in the range of micropulse duration (on the order of 10–4 sec) are associated with nonradial stellar oscillations.Translated from Astrofizika, Vol. 39, No. 3, pp. 475–488, July–September, 1996.  相似文献

The results of the observations to search gamma-ray sources with the energy greater than 2×1012 eV, which were made in Crimean Astrophysical Observatory during the years 1969–73 are presented. A technique of the detection of the EAS Cerenkov flashes was used.The quality of the data obtained is analysed. The criteria for the selection of the data free from meteorological variations are considered.It was shown that two objects, namely, Cyg X-3 and Cas -1, may be the sources of high-energy gamma quanta. It is probable that the object with the coordinates =05h15m, =+1° is the source of gamma-rays as well. An unidentified object Cas -1 is variable: gamma-ray flux was observed twice — in Sepember–October 1971 and in December 1972. It is possible that the flux from Cyg X-3 has a period of 4.8 hr.

The relationship between punctuated equilibrium and impact crises is critically examined in the light of our present knowledge of asteroids and comets. It turns out that the emphasis on relatively narrow epochs associated with occasional NEO impacts is probably misplaced. Rather priority should be given to the wider and more frequent epochs associated with multiple NEO debris impacts which result in so-called punctuational crises afflicting the planets. These comprise the global coolings, super-Tunguska events and generally enhanced fireball flux produced by the larger orbital debris whenever an active, dormant or dead comet fragments and produces a trail. Taken as a whole and in conjunction with the target, the response function is inevitably complex. Nevertheless we broadly expect that the strength of a punctuational crisis will vary as the progenitor comet mass, the inverse dispersion of its debris and the inverse delay since fragmentation. The encounter of P/SL-9 with Jupiter may be taken as representing an extreme punctuational crisis where the dispersion and delay were exceptionally small. The more familiar crises affecting the Earth with less extreme values of dispersion and delay, which have resulted in civilization being disturbed a good many times during recent millennia, are no less important however. Indeed, the next such threat to civilization ostensibly has a roughly 1 in 4 lifetime chance. Any support for the Spaceguard programme which detracts from consideration of these punctuational crises, whatever their strength, would seem now to be peculiarly wide of the mark.  相似文献

The variation of radio luminosity with redshift and its effect on the analysis of the angular size-redshift (z) relation for a bright radio source sample (s 178 10Jy) has been investigated. By assuming a power law dependence of luminosity on redshift of the formP (1 +z), it was found that 4.4 (with correlation coefficientr 0.99) for at leastz 0.3. Correction for such a strongP – (1 +z) correlation when considering thez data for the sample led to a steeperz slope. This could be explained by assuming linear size evolution of the formD (1 +z)n withn = 2.8 – 3.3 consistent with both theoretical results and those obtained for more homogeneous source samples.  相似文献

The relative abundances of cool neutral hydrogen, carbon monoxide and formaldehyde are studied using all the available observational data in the literature. The obtained mean valuesN H 1/ ,N H 1/N CO,N CO/ are approximately constant in the dark clouds of the solar neighbourhood and in the distant molecular clouds.The observed correlationsN CO,A v and ,A v show that formaldehyde can also be used as an indicator of molecular hydrogen. The ratioN H1/A v depends on densities and decays considerably in the ranges of visual absorptions in which the molecules become detectable (A v 2 mg); an average of /N H 110 is calculated for the dense dark clouds.Indications of systematic temperature gradiens T/A v are found for formaldehyde and neutral hydrogen inside the dark clouds, and qualitative comparisons are made with theoretical quantum mechanics calculations.The observed carbon monoxide and formaldehyde abundances, the free electron layer in the Galaxy, the distribution of neutral hydrogen in different states are only compatible if an ionization rate of 10–16 is accepted, provided presumably by 2 MeV protons of cosmic radiation.Three main states for neutral hydrogen and dust are identified from different kinds of observational data (21 cm line in emission, absorption in galactic radio sources and self-absorption in the hot gas background): (1) a homogeneous intercloud stratum of tenuous gas and dust with a galactic halfwidth of 350 pc and mean parametersn H=0.2 atom cm–3, spin temperatureT s 10000 K andn d 0.3 mg kpc–1; (2) cool gas and dust concentrated in spiral features with a galactic half-width of less than 100 pc, probably forming clouds with diffuse and indefinite limits, with mean parametersn H2 atom cm–3,T s <1100 K (probable average,T s =135 K) andn d 3 mg kpc–1; (3) dense gas and dust clouds with a mean diameter of 7 pc and mean parametersn H700 atom cm–3 (90% in a molecular state),T s 63 K andn d 1 mg pc–1 on which molecules as CO and H2CO are formed.The application of the Jeans criteria for gravitational instability shows that the dense clouds are gravitationally bound while the gas in the intermediate state (2) can be protected against collapse by the total internal energy in the medium increasing due to cosmic rays and the magnetic field in the Galaxy.The observed velocity halfwidths and galacticZ-halfwidths in states (1) and (2) are compatible with a total mass density in the galactic layer of 90M pc–2 (gas plus stars) according to the barometric equation.The relative abundancesN H 1/N CO, calculated from C12O and C13O data and comparisons with studies in the 21 cm emission line, show that the antenna temperatureT A + in the 2.6 mm line of C12O is a good indicator of the cool gas densities in the Galaxy. The possible application of this for studies in galactic structure is discussed and hypothetical distributions of carbon monoxide in the zones outside the galactic planeB=0° are presented.From a synthesis based on the results obtained, a cycle is postulated for the neutral hydrogen in the Galaxy: condensation and cooling of gas molecular formation gravitational collapse and star formation gas dissipation and heating by cosmic rays and UV radiation.  相似文献

The assumption of a linearly expanding universe for the JBD-cosmological equations generates a set of solutions for the barotropic equations of statep= (=const.). These solutions turn out to be valid for closed space-except in the casep= which is for open space. The gravitational constant which is inversely proportional to the scalar field increases with time if >–1/3 and decreases for <–1/3. No solution exists for =1/3. Vibrational transition probabilities, namely Franck—Condon factors and -centroids have been evaluated by an approximate analytical method for the (A–X), (A–X), and (A–X) system of YO molecule. Morse potential energy curves forX 2+,A 22,A22, andA22, states of YO have been constructed using the latest spectroscopic data. The value of -centroids for the band have been found to decrease linearly with the corresponding wavelengths. We show results for two new transitions of (A–X) and (A–X) and five new bands of (A–X) of YO in the umbral spectrum of the Sun.  相似文献

Conclusions In the Newtonian case we have obtained an isotropic self-consistent distribution of gravitationally interacting point masses which satisfies the transport equation without collisions, and the gravitational equation for an arbitrary powerfunction density distribution =r–s, s<3.For =r–2 the analogous self-consistent solution was obtained for the anisotropic distribution function both in Newtonian and GTR cases.The GTR solutions with =r–2 have central redshifts which increase without limit in accordance with the law 1+zr–1/ as we approach the center. In the isotropic case, they appear to be stable when the mean velocities are much less than the velocity of light u<0.2c, >21.The hydrodynamic GTR solution was found for a perfect gas at constant temperature (but variable T=T(g00)1/2) which also has z for r0.We should like to thank K. New families of three-dimensional double-symmetric periodic orbits are determined numerically in the Sun-Jupiter case of the restricted three-body problem. These families bifurcate from the vertical-critical orbits ( v = – 1, b v – 0) of the basic plane familiesi, g 1, g2, c andI. Further, the predictor-corrector procedure employed to reveal these families has been described and interesting numerical results have been pointed out. An exact solution of Einstein's equation is stated in which the density (), pressure (p), scale factorS and metric coefficients are functions of only one dimensionless self-similar variable,ct/R, wheret is cosmic time andR is a co-moving radial coordinate. The solution represents a cosmology that begins as a static sphere having R –2 and evolves into an expanding model which is pressure-free and has a hierarchical type of density law ( R , approximately, with =a number, 02). For solar cycle 23, the maximum sunspot number was predicted by several workers, and the range was very wide, 80–210. Cycle 23 started in 1996 and seems to have peaked in 2000, with a smoothed sunspot number maximum of 122. From about 20 predictions, 8 were within 122±20. There is an indication that a long-term oscillation of 80–100 years may be operative and might have peaked near cycle 20 (1970), and sunspot maxima in cycles in the near future may be smaller and smaller for the next 50 years or so and rebound thereafter in the next 50 years or so.  相似文献

The tidal field caused by the second order zonal harmonic of the gravitational field of a planet is discussed according to the fernwirkungsgesetz (principle of local action) of Weyl (1921) introducing an accurate and simple form of the gravitational potential of the planet in elliptic coordinates. It is seen that the tidal field can be described at each point as a small rotation of the local canonical frame which causes a libration and a precession of the axis of rotation of the satellites of the planet. It is also shown that at each point P, is one third of the angle between the line of force through P and the line from P to the center of mass of the planet.
