 A singular value decomposition (SVD) is used to calculate SVD-selected fields of ozone and geopotential, which exhibit maximum covariance, from the observed zonally asymmetric total ozone field and that of the three-dimensional geopotential field thus leaving almost purely dynamical induced variations in the remaining ozone field. This procedure was applied to Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer data (TOMS) and to geopotential values from the National Centers for Environmental Prediction in the boreal mid-latitudes in the winter months of 1979–1992. Intraseasonal variability (December–February) and trend-eliminated interannual winter mean variability of total ozone and geopotential are analyzed. The first four modes of SVD analysis explain more than 70% of the covariance for the intraseasonal variability and more than 80% of that for the interannual variability. The vertical structure of geopotential regression maps reveals a clear wave-1 pattern for modes one and two and a wave-2 pattern for modes three and four. These patterns show differently but generally westward tilted phases and are more complex at heights below 70 hPa. Further a linear transport model of a conservative tracer was applied to each individual geopotential mode found by the SVD analysis in connection with an observed height and latitude dependent zonal mean ozone distribution. The model results of total ozone reproduce the spatial patterns of the SVD-selected total ozone field quite well whereas their magnitudes are variously underestimated. This method allows us to assess the vertical distribution of the contribution of single modes to the total ozone variability. Maximum contributions are found between 150 and 70 hPa. Smaller amplitude maxima are found around 10 hPa, which result from contributions of horizontal advection of ozone alone. Summary The well known ENSO (El Ni?o-Southern Oscillation) phenomenon is quantitatively identified in terms of SST (sea surface temperature) anomalies over the equatorial central and eastern Pacific and sea level pressure difference over eastern and western regions of the equatorial Pacific. The PNA (Pacific North American) atmospheric flow pattern, originally identified by Wallace and Gutzler (1981) is representative of a certain preferred configuration of the mid-tropospheric geopotential height field in the longitudinal sector extending from the mid-Pacific to the southeastern United States. The PNA index is defined as a linear combination of normalized geopotential height anomalies at the 700 mb level at four selected locations. Using multiple regression analysis, suitable linear combinations of predictors based on monthly values of ENSO and PNA indices are obtained which can foreshadow the summer season’s weather over the crop-growing region of the Canadian prairie provinces with a lead time of 2 to 7 months. The utility of the ENSO and PNA indices for advance indication of summer weather with implications for grain yields over the Canadian prairies is further discussed. 2013年6—9月在河北省固城站观测到多次夜间对流性天气伴随地面O3混合比快速抬升的过程,并引起次日清晨到中午O3混合比升高。大多数对流过程中,O3混合比在半小时内升高至60×10-9~80×10-9,同时NOx等反应性气体混合比下降,θse值降低,说明下沉气流将高空气团带到地面,造成了O3混合比的升高。通过再分析资料得到下沉气团基本来源于对流层中下层,这一结论与当地进行的一次飞机观测结果吻合。多数对流过程中固城站和北京城区地面O3混合比和θse值有相同的变化趋势和程度。根据观测结果,推测华北地区在夏季和初秋时,对流层中下层存在O3高值区,混合比约为60×10-9~80×10-9。对流性天气对地面O3抬升的影响区域与对流系统的影响范围有关,可达到中尺度范围。华北地区光化学污染严重,对流性天气引起的地面O3混合比抬升程度比较强,对环境的影响值得关注。  相似文献

A 10-year study of surface ozone mixing ratios in the Central Mediterranean was conducted based on continuous ozone measurements from 1997 to 2006 by a background regional Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW) station on the island of Gozo. The mean annual maximum mixing ratio is of the order of 66 ppbv in April–May with a broad secondary maximum of 64 ppbv in July–September. No long-term increase or decrease in the background level of surface ozone could be observed over the last 10 years. This is contrary to observations made in the Eastern Mediterranean, where a slow decrease in the background ozone mixing ratio was observed over the past 7 years. Despite the very high average annual ozone mixing ratio exceeding 50 ppbv—in fact, the highest average background ozone mixing ratio ever measured in Europe—, the diurnal O 3 max/O 3 min index of <1.40 indicates that the island of Gozo is a good site for measuring background surface ozone. However, frequent photosmog events from June to September during the past 10 years with ozone mixing ratios exceeding 90 ppbv indicate that the Central Mediterranean is prone to long-range transport of air pollutants from Europe by northerly winds. This was particularly evident during the so-called “August heatwave” of the year 2003 when the overall ozone mixing ratio was 4.6 ppbv higher than the average of all other 9 months of August since 1997. Air mass back-trajectory analysis of the August 2003 photosmog episodes on Gozo confirmed that ozone pollution originated from the European continent. Regression analysis was used to analyse the 10-year data set in order to model the behaviour of the ozone mixing ratio in terms of the meteorological parameters of wind speed, relative humidity, global radiation, temperature, month of year, wind sector, atmospheric pressure, and time of day (predictors). Most of these predictors were found to significantly affect the ozone mixing ratios. From March to November, the monthly average of the AOT40 threshold value for the protection of crops and vegetation against ozone was constantly exceeded on Gozo during the past 10 years.  相似文献

This paper uses Dobson spectrometer total ozone data,Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer(TOMS) data and radiosonde reports from Kunming,which is located in southwest China,from 1980 to 2008 to analyze the total ozone-climate relationship.The total ozone decadal long-term trend and abrupt change were studied using enhanced Dobson data whose missing data were amended by the TOMS data.Stepwise linear regression was used for the selection of the key factors that influence total ozone,including temperatures,geopotential heights,depressions of the dew point,wind velocities,and total solar radiation.The relationship between the selected factors and total ozone was analyzed using the methods of stepwise regression and partial least squares regression(PLSR).Results showed that although the PLSR method was slightly better and more reasonable to study the relationship than stepwise regression,while the two regression results were only slightly different.It was also suggested that local climate,especially local circulation and temperature,were important for the variations in total ozone,and the local climate could almost linearly explain 80% of the variance of total ozone.The relationship also indicated that the abrupt change of total ozone in the year 1994 may be related to abrupt local climate change.  相似文献

Abstract

The zonal wavenumber spectra of the geopotential heights of the 300‐ and 500‐mb surfaces in the Southern Hemisphere were determined for each month between May 1972 and November 1979 using daily operational analyses produced by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. During over one‐quarter of the “summer” months (November through March) there are very prominent peaks at zonal wavenumber five in the region of the mid‐latitude jet (~35–60°S). Frequently wavenumber five totally dominates the eddy fields in individual daily maps so that height contours in mid‐latitudes take on virtually pentagonal shapes. During periods when wavenumber 5 is prominent, it is observed to propagate eastward in a very regular manner with a period of about eleven days. All these findings are consistent with Salby's (1982) earlier results concerning the Southern Hemisphere height fields during the first few months of the FGGE experiment.

There is little evidence for a similar phenomenon in the winter circulation of the Southern Hemisphere.  相似文献

 The total ozone column is well correlated with tropospheric fields such as the heights of the upper tropospheric geopotential surfaces and thus it can provide useful information on temporal variability in the troposphere. The global availability of long period satellite measurements of the total ozone column, taken by the TOMS instruments since 1978, provides a valuable and independent data set for use in studies of seasonal and interannual climate variability. In this study, the global low-frequency seasonal teleconnections in the observed TOMS data from 1979–91 have been investigated using seasonal teleconnectivity maps and empirical orthogonal function analysis. They have also been compared with the results from a simulation made with the atmospheric GCM at Météo-France, having prescribed observed sea surface temperatures for the same period. In the observed total ozone, strong ENSO-related wave number one longitudinal dipole patterns are seen in both the tropics and in the Southern Hemisphere extratropics. The model shows much weaker variability in total ozone yet appears to be able to capture similar teleconnection patterns in the tropics related to ENSO. In the SH extratropics, the model total ozone shows a strong wave number 3 response rather than the wave number one dipole seen in the observations. A wave number 3 response is also evident in the 200 hPa geopotential height simulated by the model and in the NCEP analysis, and is consistent with the response in a linearised barotropic model forced in the Indonesian region. The different responses in the modelled and observed total ozone, suggest that tropopause effect is not the major factor in the SH extratropics, and it is likely that horizontal ozone transport also plays a role in this region. Despite a generally poor simulation of the zonal mean total ozone, the model was able to capture the anomalous strengthening of the SH stationary waves during austral spring of 1988, related to an intense stratosphere sudden warming. Summary A new Statistical-Physical Retrieval Method (STPRM) has been developed for applications with TIROS Operational Vertical Sounder (TOVS) measurements. The method uses physical modeling combined with statistical regression to develop straightforward retrieval expressions for temperature, moisture content, and tropopause height based on brightness temperature measurements from both the HIRS and MSU instruments used in the TOVS system. The selection of HIRS and MSU channels used in the various retrievals is based on channel sensitivity coefficients which relate to the amplitude of the change of a given channel's brightness temperature to a given change in a retrieval parameter. The temperature retrieval procedure is designed for all-weather situations, and emphasizes the use of MSU microwave channels including linear combinations of these channels to improve vertical resolution. Cloud parameters are retrieved using radiances from HIRS channels to generate clear column radiances for the moisture and tropopause height retrievals, which depend almost exclusively on the HIRS channels. The STPRM scheme is then used to obtain and evaluate distributions of temperature, mixing ratio, and tropopause height. Distributions of ozone content are also retrieved from an independent iterative retrieval procedure using the cloud corrected radiances from the STPRM scheme as input. The retrievals are compared to in situ measurements obtained from radiosonde observations and ground-based Dobson spectrometer measurements situated throughout East Asia with generally good results. The temperature retrievals are also used in a synoptic analysis of a winter storm situation that developed over northern China in January 1989, giving a geopotential height distribution which is confirmed by aerological observations.With 16 Figures  相似文献

In this paper we describe a technique for estimating chemical ozone loss in the Arctic vortex. Observed ozone and temperature profiles are combined with the model potential vorticity field to produce time series of vortex averaged ozone mixing ratios on chosen isentropic surfaces. Model-derived radiative heating rates and observed vertical gradients of ozone are then used to estimate the change in ozone that would occur due to diabatic descent. Discrepancies with the observed ozone are interpreted as being of chemical origin, assuming that there is negligible horizontal transport or mixing of air into the vortex. The technique is illustrated using ozone sonde measurements collected during the 1991/92 European Arctic Stratospheric Ozone Experiment (EASOE), meteorological analyses from the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and radiative heating rates extracted from the Global Atmospheric Modelling Programme (UGAMP) 3D General Circulation Model. Our results show that there was photochemical ozone destruction inside the Arctic vortex in early 1992 with a loss between 475 K and 550 K (around 20 km) of 0.32±0.15 ppmv in the first 20 days of January, equivalent to a rate of 0.51±0.24%/day (at the 95% confidence level).  相似文献

利用星载微波临边遥感探测结果,对2006年6月28~29日江淮地区的一次强对流天气过程中对流层上部一氧化碳 (CO) 、臭氧 (O3) 、水汽 (H2O) 和冰水含量 (IWC) 的分布特点进行了研究.强对流天气过程前后的对比分析表明,CO混合比增大,在200 hPa处增加了0.12 ppm (1 ppm=10-6);O3混合比减小,在70 hPa处减少了0.30 ppm;H2O混合比在250 hPa处增加了400 ppm;IWC在强降水发生之前有大幅增长,在200 hPa处最大含量可达0.03 g/m3.CO和O3含量与垂直运动速度两者的相关变化表明,对流垂直输送作用可能是造成对流层上层和平流层低层大气成分变化的机制之一.而H2O和IWC含量的增加主要局限于对流层顶以下,这表明对流层上部水物质的质量和形态是由垂直输送作用和对流系统内部的微物理过程共同决定的.  相似文献

采用TOMS和SAGE II臭氧卫星观测资料,对1998年青藏高原臭氧低值中心异常变化的过程和垂直结构进行了分析。为了探讨1998年这个低值中心出现异常的原因,利用NCEP/NCAR再分析资料,通过1998年高原附近上空位势场和位温的变化,分析了1998年臭氧低值中心异常期间高原上空对流层上层到平流层下层的流场和垂直运动的变化特征。结果表明,1998年11月,青藏高原上空对流顶比正常年份高,无论是对流层上层还是平流层下层,上升运动都比正常年份强。同时高原上空南亚高压也比正常年份强,于是使得1998年高原上空的强臭氧低值中心一直维持到11月。  相似文献

极轨气象卫星大气垂直探测(TOVS)资料微机处理系统可实时接收处理TOVS/HRPT资料,生成空间分辨率约75(或50)km的大气温度和湿度廓线、位势高度、热成风、大气中水汽总含量、射出长波辐射(OLR)、臭氧总含量等大气参数以及TOVS水汽图象等产品。其中,大气温度的平均相对误差为2.5K,大气湿度的平均相对误差为25%。由于气象卫星覆盖范围广,观测频次多,因此,TOVS产品可弥补海洋、高原、沙漠等地区常规探测资料之不足。  相似文献

用500毫巴月平均高度图,以100—120°E、≥10°N的范围内,≥588位势什米网格点数代表南海高压强度,则6—7月南海高压强度和6—7月长江中下游的梅雨量有较好的相关。由于南海高压强度有一定持续性,因而可根据前期南海高压强弱,预报6—7月长江中下游的梅雨量。用此思路得出的预报公式。能把有无梅雨洪涝反映出来,从1953—1980年,拟合率为28/28,1981—1983年试报也全正确。另外,文内还探讨了用11月环流特征,作下年初夏南海高压的强弱和长江中下游涝梅预报的可行性。   相似文献

利用ECMWF资料分析了平流层爆发性增温 (SSW) 过程中臭氧体积混合比的垂直分布的变化, 结果表明: 平流层爆发性增温过程中臭氧体积混合比增大, 而其极大值大多数形成在增温盛期。同时臭氧体积混合比的高值区在爆发性增温过程中随高度发生一定的变化, 据此对其变化分为两类: (1) 下传型: 在增温初期臭氧体积混合的高值区随高度下传至一定高度, 在增温盛期形成极大值然后随高度抬升到大致增温前的高度。 (2) 增厚型: 在增温过程中臭氧体积混合比的高值区厚度增加, 同时附近区域的臭氧体积混合比也增大, 而且在增温前臭氧体积混合比高值区在高度上没有多大变化, 增温开始后有所抬升。平流层爆发性增温过程中臭氧高值区随高度变化的这两种类型, 是由于平流层爆发性增温期间剩余环流对臭氧输送的结果。臭氧变化的下传型是由于在爆发性增温前剩余环流存在着中纬度向极地的明显输送, 并且伴随着极地强烈的下沉运动, 这就使得中纬度输送来的臭氧向下输送, 因此出现了臭氧高值区的下传; 而臭氧变化的增厚型是由于在爆发性增温期间剩余环流不但有中纬度向极地的输送, 而且在极地附近5 hPa高度处出现了上下两支输送气流, 向上的输送气流使中纬度输送来的臭氧向上输送, 而向下的输送气流使中纬度输送来的臭氧向下输送, 进而使增温期间极地附近的臭氧的高值区增厚。同时分析还表明: 平流层爆发性增温过程中中纬度臭氧体积混合比减少。  相似文献

本文简要介绍目前卫星区域大气探测资料业务处理系统的软件结构、算法和生成的产品。将系统处理结果与常规观测值作比较分析的结果表明:大气温度反演平均均方根误差为2.45 ℃,水汽混合比平均均方根误差为1.47 g/kg,层平均厚度误差为21.4位势米,臭氧总含量均方根误差约为10%(Dobson),长波辐射通量均方根误差约为1.7 W/m2。  相似文献

利用1979—2012年逐日NCEP/DOE再分析资料,分析北半球中纬度冬季(11月1日—4月30日)对流层位势高度的季节内振荡特征。结果表明:对流层上层位势高度的季节内变化强度较中下层更强,中心主要位于太平洋和大西洋上空;对流层上层位势高度场主要为1~3波的超长波形势,功率谱分析结果表明其时间序列呈现显著的季节内振荡(10~60 d)特征;10~60 d滤波的位势高度异常空间分布与原异常场一致,位势高度季节内振荡随时间主要表现为向西传播的特征,尤其表现在北太平洋上空,而亚欧大陆更为复杂一些;亚洲冬季风对北半球中纬度位势高度的季节内振荡有响应,主要表现为蒙古高压位置和强度的异常,继而对我国冬季气温产生影响。  相似文献
