Pyrite is a common sulfide mineral, particularly abundant in mining waste. It is a focus of mine envi-ronmental concern because the oxidation of exposed pyrite may lead to acid drainage and poisonous mate-rials (like As and heavy metals) release. Previously, we predicted and then observed in practice the property of aftershocks which consists in the statistically regular clustering of events in time during the first hours after the main shock. The characteristic quasi-period of clustering is three hours. This property is associated with the cumulative action of the surface waves converging to the epicenter, whereas the quasi-period is mainly determined by the time delay of the round-the-world seismic echo. The quasi-period varies from case to case. In the attempt to find the cause of this variability, we have statistically explored the probable dependence of quasi-period on the magnitude of the main shock. In this paper, we present the corresponding result of analyzing global seismicity from the USGS/NEIC earthquake catalog. We succeeded in finding a significant reduction in the quasiperiod of the strong earthquakes clustering with growth in the magnitude of the main shock. We suggest the interpretation of this regularity from the standpoint of the phenomenological theory of explosive instability. It is noted that the phenomenon of explosive instability is fairly common in the geophysical media. The examples of explosive instability in the radiation belt and magnetospheric tail are presented. The search for the parallels in the evolution of explosive instability in the lithosphere and magnetosphere of the Earth will enrich both the physics of the earthquakes and physics of the magnetospheric pulsations.  相似文献

From the origins of hydrology, the time of concentration, tc, has conventionally been tackled as a constant quantity. However, theoretical proof and empirical evidence imply that tc exhibits significant variability against rainfall, making its definition and estimation a hydrological paradox. Adopting the assumptions of the Rational method and the kinematic approach, an effective procedure in a GIS environment for estimating the travel time across a catchment’s longest flow path is provided. By application in 30 Mediterranean basins, it is illustrated that tc is a negative power function of excess rainfall intensity. Regional formulas are established to infer its multiplier (unit time of concentration) and exponent from abstract geomorphological information, which are validated against observed data and theoretical literature outcomes. Besides offering a fast and easy solution to the paradox, we highlight the necessity of implementing the varying tc concept within hydrological modelling, signalling a major shift from current engineering practices.  相似文献

荧光光谱分析技术具有灵敏度高、检测快速等优点,三维荧光光谱提供的指纹荧光信息比普通荧光光谱更丰富,选择性更好,在多组分分离上更具优势.离散三维活体荧光光谱法通过提取水体蓝藻、绿藻、硅藻、甲藻和隐藻5个门类藻类荧光光谱的指纹特征,分类测量藻类叶绿素a浓度,经过加和得到总的水体叶绿素a浓度.将基于该方法研制的三维荧光光谱水体藻类原位测量仪用于太湖水体叶绿素a浓度的测定,并与YSI多参数水质检测仪、BBE藻类现场分析仪、分光光度法等测定结果对比,结果表明:该方法与分光光度法间无显著性差异,与分光光度法、BBE法间的相关性好,相关系数达0.96以上,精密度、准确率优于基于普通荧光法的原位测量仪,是一种快速有效的原位测量方法.  相似文献

Deep seismic sounding measurements were performed in the continent-ocean transition zone of the western Svalbard and Barents Sea margin, during the expeditions in 1985–2008. Seismic energy (airgun and TNT shots) was recorded along several profiles by onshore seismic stations and ocean bottom seismometers, and hydrophone systems. Good quality reflected and refracted P waves provided an excellent data base for a seismic modelling along the profiles. TNT sources were recorded even up to 300 km distances. A minimal depth of about 6 km of the Moho interface was found east of the Molloy Deep. The Moho discontinuity dips down to 28 km beneath the continental part of the northernmost profile and down to maximum 32 km beneath other profiles. The evolution of the region is considered to be within a shearrift tectonic setting. The continent-ocean transition zone along the northernmost profile is mostly dominated by extension; therefore, the last stage of the development of the margin can be classified as rifting. The uplifted Moho interface close to the Molloy Deep can be interpreted as a south-western end of the Molloy Ridge. The margin of the southern Spitsbergen is rather of sheared character while the western Barents Sea margin is of slow to ultraslow spreading type.  相似文献

It is widely recognized nowadays that there are at least two different phases of bedload sediment transport in gravel‐bed rivers. However, the transition between these phases is still poorly or subjectively defined, especially at bends in rivers, where cross‐stream sediment transport can strongly influence changes in the texture of the transported sediment. In this paper, we use piecewise models to identify objectively, at two points in the cross‐section of a river bend, the discharge at which the transition between bedload transport phases occurs. Piecewise models were applied to a new bedload data set collected during a wide range of discharges while analysing the associated changes in sediment texture. Results allowed the identification of two well‐differentiated phases of sediment transport (phase I and phase II), with a breakpoint located around bankfull discharge. Associated with each phase there was a change in bedload texture. In phase I there was non‐dominance in the transport of fine or coarse fractions at a particular sampling point; but in phase II bedload texture was strongly linked to the position of the sampling point across the channel. In this phase, fine particles tended to be transported to the inner bank, while coarse sizes were transferred throughout the middle parts of the channel. Moreover, bedload texture at the inner sampling point became bimodal while the transport of pebble‐sized particles was increasing in the central parts of the river channel. It is suggested that this general pattern may be related both to secondary currents, which transfer finer particles from the outer to the inner bank, and to the progressive dismantling of the riverbed surface layer. The idea that oceanic lithosphere is thinner than continental lithosphere is widely accepted even though one would like to see clearer evidence to support it. In fact, the very concept of lithosphere is still a matter of some debate. If there is indeed a variation in the thickness of the lithosphere at continental margins and if this change is associated with a lateral variation in electrical conductivity one may envisage detecting it with electromagnetic soundings methods. A model of a passive continental margin has therefore been investigated to test whether this would be feasible. It has been found that the well-known but strong ocean-coast effect masks the minor lithospheric effect in magnetotelluric soundings performed on the shore. Inductive soundings, on the other hand, are highly sensitive to lateral variations in electrical conductivity. An analysis in terms of the induction arrow has shown that such soundings carried out on land would be perfectly suitable to reveal a changing lithospheric thickness, if the continents merely extended to the oceanic coast. However, the presence of only a narrow continental shelf of 100 km width under 250 m of sea-water produces an overriding coast effect ahead of the margin, and thus renders electromagnetic methods unsuited to reveal a changing lithospheric thickness.  相似文献

Из рисунков видно, что амплитуды продолных и поперечных волн меняются в изучаемых расстояниях подобным образом, но минимум и максимум кривой (A *, Δ) для волнSH подвинуты к ббльшим эпицентральным расстояниям чем в случае воумPH.

— Pressure-induced variations in pore geometry were studied on dry- and fluid- saturated samples by means of electrical impedance spectroscopy and permeability measurements. Hydrostatic pressures (up to 120 MPa) and uniaxial pressures (up to failure) were applied. Hydrostatic pressures reduce the aspect ratio of cracks and thus cause a decrease of permeability and electrical bulk conductivity. The opposite was observed in uniaxial pressure experiments where new cracks were formed and consequently permeability and electrical conductivity were increased. More specific informations of these generated observations were derived from the interpretation of the frequency dispersion of the complex electrical conductivity. This least-squares-refinement considers electrochemical interactions between the fluid pore electrolyte and the inner surface of the sample, thus providing informations on the pore geometry and pressure-induced variations. Consequently changes in aspect ratio, size and geometry of the pore system can be detected by means of impedance spectroscopy.  相似文献

Summary A study was made of the maximum amount of energy which might be absorbed by the atmosphere down to 80 km during a sudden ionospheric disturbance. Assuming that the ionization is caused by Lyman radiation from the sun, and that all oxygen present is ionized, the energy absorbed by the sunlit hemisphere is 5.65·1027 ergs.

PCBs, Σ DDT (sum of DDT, DDE and DDD) and other chlorinated hydrocarbons were measured in striped mullet (Mullus barbatus) from Saronikos Gulf. The highest values of PCBs and Σ DDT observed were 1100 and 390 ng g?1 (on a fresh weight basis) respectively. The correlation between the above two residues and the distance from the source of pollution, a well as the relationships between Σ DDT and its metabolites were studied.  相似文献

This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the effect of duration on the damage of structures subjected to earthquakes. The earthquake excitation is modelled by a non-stationary random process whose response spectrum is probabilistically consistent with a design response spectrum specified independently of the duration. Damage is assumed to accumulate with the cyclic application of large strains in the structural members. Two types of structure are examined: one representative of a steel structure and the other reprsentative of a reinforced concrete structure. The level of expected damage is found to be a strong function of both the ductility of the response and the duration of the excitation. Results are presented for systems with linear stiffness and a particular form of softening behaviour.  相似文献

Summary The paper presents relations experimentally determined between seismic wave amplitudes and the charge size in the immediate vicinity of the shotpoint ( 800 m), on the one hand, and at a more distant station ( 22.5 km), on the other hand. Whereas close to the shotpoint the amplitudes observed sometimes display a considerably degree of scatter, as well as a change in character of the P-wave record due mainly to the change in position of the holes in the area of the shotpoint, this effect was not observed at the more distant station. Since the charge size was changed in the course of the measurements, the observed amplitudes will be reduced to a unified charge size of Q=1,200 kg, according to Eq. (8), in which the exponent n has the following values: nPg=0.77, nSg=0.92 and nLm=1.51. The values of the exponent n for P-waves are very close to the values given in [4–9].  相似文献
