In this paper, the slow MHD mode oscillations of the coronal plasma are studied. The aim is to identify the effect of structuring (such as magnetic field, temperature, density, and pressure) on the frequencies of oscillations. We modelled the coronal medium as a low-β plasma with longitudinally density and pressure stratifications and a weakly inhomogeneous magnetic field varied slowly with height and radial directions. The linearized ideal MHD equations reduced to a single Klein–Gordon differential equation for square of oscillatory frequencies. The eigenfunctions and analytical dispersion relations are derived. The dispersion relations were solved numerically. In the case of uniform magnetic field, the previous studies verified. Our numerical results show that, the frequencies and their ratios are very sensitive functions of pressure scale height, and slightly varying functions of inhomogeneity parameter of magnetic field. By changing the magnetic field strength between the apex and footpoints of the loop about 50%, the frequencies ratio are changed about 5%. We concluded that, the pressure scale height and temperature gradient are first order effects and inhomogeneity of magnetic field is a second order effect on the slow mode oscillations.  相似文献

The behavior of quantum dust ion-acoustic (QDIA) shocks in a plasma including inertialess quantum electrons and positrons, classical cold ions and stationary negative dust grains are studied, using a quantum hydrodynamic model (QHD). The effect of dissipation due to the viscosity of ions is taken into account. The propagation of small but finite amplitude QDIA shocks is governed by the Kortoweg-de Vries-Burgers (KdVB) equation. The existence regions of oscillatory and monotonic shocks will depend on the quantum diffraction parameter (H) and dust density (d) as well as dissipation parameter (η 0). The effect of plasma parameters (d,H,η 0), on these structures is investigated. Results indicate that the thickness and height of monotonic shocks; oscillation amplitude of the oscillatory shock wave and it’s wavelength effectively are affected by these parameters. Additionally, the possibility of propagation of both compressive and rarefactive shocks is investigated. It is found that depending on some critical value of dust density (d c ), which is a function of H, compressive and rarefactive shock waves can’t propagate in model plasma. The present theory is applicable to analyze the formation of nonlinear structures at quantum scales in dense astrophysical objects.  相似文献

The thermosolutal instability of a partially-ionized plasma in the presence of a horizontal magnetic field is considered to include the frictional effect of collisions of ionized with neutrals. The sufficient conditions for non-existence of overstability are derived. The solute gradient and magnetic field introduce oscillatory modes in thermosolutal convection which were non-existent in their absence. The magnetic field and stable solute gradient are found to have stabilizing effects whereas collisional effect of ionized with neutrals is found to have destabilizing effect on thermosolutal instability of a partially ionized plasma.  相似文献

The investigation of instabilities adopting the point of view of inhomogeneous mass flow, physically corresponds to consideration of stability of the perturbations whose wavelengths in the direction of plasma inhomogeneities are much larger than the characteristic plasma scale length. The dissipation of hydromagnetic-waves and instabilities takes place due to the inhomogeneous plasma flow. Both the velocity and plasma density vary in the direction perpendicular to the magnetic field. It is found that the Alfvén wave branch and magnetosonic branch may be driven unstable by the velocity shear. Instability, oscillatory modes, marginal instability and overstability are worked out.  相似文献

As the mean steady flow has been presented in Part I, only the solutions for the transient velocity profiles, transient induced magnetic field, and transient temperature profiles and the related to them quantities are presented in this work. The influence of the various parameters entering into the problem, especially of the Eckert numberE, which represents the contribution of heat in the boundary layer due to viscous dissipation and to Joule heat, is extensively discussed.  相似文献

At time t<0, a steady stationary condition of a fully ionised gas exists in space, such that the velocity components, the induced magnetic field and a uniform temperature are given by (0,0,0),(0, 0,Ho) and Θ, respectively, in the rectangular coordinate (x,y,z). At t =0, a sudden increase of temperature is applied at z = 0. If the Eckert terms are neglected, an integral transform technique is employed to solve for the z–axis related transient flow (U,V,0),(Ho), and temperature Θ (z,t). For large applied magnetic field, Ho the flow is observed to exhibit disturbance modes some of which are oscilatory, and some streaming modes are seen accompanied by the expected decays. For a thermally perturbed plasma the flow is seen to be largely governed by conduction parameters if viscous terms are not neglected under the MHD approximations. Oscillations of magnetic structures in the solar corona have often been interpreted in terms of magnetohydrodynamic waves. We study the adiabatic magnetoacoustic modes of a prominence plasma slab with a uniform longitudinal magnetic field, surrounded by a prominence – corona transition region (PCTR) and a coronal medium. Considering linear small-amplitude oscillations, we deduce the dispersion relation for the magnetoacoustic slow and fast modes by assuming evanescentlike perturbations in the coronal medium. In the system without PCTR, a classification of the oscillatory modes according to the polarisation of their eigenfunctions is made to distinguish modes with fastlike or slowlike properties. Internal and external slow modes are governed by the prominence and coronal properties, respectively, and fast modes are mostly dominated by prominence conditions for the observed wavelengths. In addition, the inclusion of an isothermal PCTR does not substantially influence the mode frequencies, but new solutions (PCTR slow modes) are present.  相似文献

The particle aspect approach is adopted to investigate the trajectories of charged particles in the electromagnetic field of kinetic Alfven wave. Expressions are found for the dispersion relation, damping rate and associated currents in homogenous plasma. Kinetic effects of electrons and ions are included to study kinetic Alfven wave because both are important in the transition region. It is found that the ratio β of electron thermal energy density to magnetic field energy density and the ratio of ion to electron thermal temperature (Ti/Te) affect the dispersion relation, damping-rate and associated currents in both cases (warm and cold electron limits). The treatment of kinetic Alfven wave instability is based on the assumption that the plasma consists of resonant and non-resonant particles. The resonant particles participate in an energy exchange process, whereas the non-resonant particles support the oscillatory motion of the wave.  相似文献

Analysis of He i 10 830 Å spectral observations of a large, quiescent filament reveals a pronounced oscillatory behaviour of the vertical mass motion. The filament is situated in a quiet region more than 15° away from the nearest active region. It is concluded that the magnetic field of the quiescent filament, which occurs in the form of long thin flux ropes, moves with the gas and that there is no net mass flow perpendicular to the most frequently observed horizontal field lines. The oscillatory motion is accompanied by phase dependent variation of the He i line intensity which could possibly imply wave induced compression of the plasma.  相似文献

We examine the spectrum of perturbations for a scalar field with an arbitrary curvature coupling parameter in the de Sitter stage of cosmological expansion when a cosmic string is present. These perturbations are caused by vacuum fluctuations in the field and serve as seed perturbations for the formation of galaxies in the postinflationary stage. A cosmic string disrupts the homogeneity of a de Sitter space, so that the spectrum of the perturbations depends on the distance from the string. This dependence is oscillatory in character with a period on the order of the perturbation wavelength.  相似文献

The solution to the problem of the motion of the Moon relative to spatial irregularities in the interplanetary magnetic field is found. The lunar electrical conductivity is modeled by a two-layer conductivity profile. For the interaction of the Moon with the corotating sector structure of the interplanetary magnetic field it is found that the magnetic field in the lunar shell is the superposition of an oscillatory uniform field, an oscillatory dipole field and anoscillatory field that is toroidal about the axis of the motional electric field. With various lunar conductivity models and the theory of this paper, lunar surface magnetometer data can be quantitatively interpreted to yield information on the conductivity and consequently the temperature of the lunar core.Presently visiting the Max-Planck-Institut für Physik und Astrophysik, München, Germany.  相似文献

The well-known shock solutions of the Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation are revisited, together with their limitations in the context of plasma (astro)physical applications. Although available in the literature for a long time, it seems to have been forgotten in recent papers that such shocks are monotonic and unique, for a given plasma configuration, and cannot show oscillatory or bell-shaped features. This uniqueness is contrasted to solitary wave solutions of the two parent equations (Korteweg-de Vries and Burgers), which form a family of curves parameterized by the excess velocity over the linear phase speed.  相似文献

We offer a new interpretation of the origin of oscillations in active regions. Quasi-periodic oscillation trains with periods of 3 min, 5 min, and min arise due to slow oscillatory transients which accompany the appearance of plasma flow along the sunspot's magnetic field. In oscillatory transients of the fast type, occurring in current loop systems, the typical period of oscillations shifts towards values of the order of a second.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to investigate the thermal stability of a fluid layer with permeable boundaries and a variable gravitational field. It is observed that the principle of exchange of stabilities is valid when the layer is heated form below and the complex growth rate of an arbitrary oscillatory mode exists outside of a circle whose radius depends upon the permeability parameter, Prandtl number and wavelength of the mode. In the case of a layer heated from below, gravity increasing upward has a destabilizing effect whereas the permeability parameter has a stabilizing effect.  相似文献

Kinetic Alfven waves are examined in the presence of electron and ion beam and an inhomogeneous magnetic field with bi-Maxwellian distribution function. The theory of particle aspect analysis is used to evaluate the trajectories of the charged particles. The expressions for the field-aligned currents, perpendicular currents (with respect to B 0), dispersion relation and growth/damping rate with marginal instability criteria are derived. The effect of electron and ion beam and inhomogeneity of magnetic field are discussed. The results are interpreted for the space plasma parameter appropriate to the auroral acceleration region of the earth’s magnetoplasma.  相似文献

The influence of radiation absorption on the free-convection currents on a vertical porous flat plate has been considered. A steady transverse magnetic field has been assumed, while the absorption is the result of the presence of a strong radiation-absorbing second material, in a small concentration within the main fluid. The analytical solution is in terms of the very small Eckert number, which expresses the viscous dissipation term. The solution shows small influence on the general velocity and temperature profile, but a strong one in the skin friction and the heat flux.  相似文献

The status of waves and instabilities in magnetized dusty plasmas is summarized. The effects of an external magnetic field on low-frequency electrostatic and electromagnetic waves in dusty plasmas are discussed. The kinetic and hydrodynamic instabilities are shown to excite magnetized dusty plasma waves. The presence of the latter can give rise to an oscillatory wake-potential which can be responsible for the charged dust grain attraction. The relevance of our investigation to laboratory and space plasmas has been pointed out. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The time fractional KdV equation is derived for small but finite amplitude electron-acoustic solitary waves in plasma of cold electron fluid with two different temperature isothermal ions. The effects of the time fractional parameter on the electrostatic solitary structures are presented. It is shown that the effect of time fractional parameter can be used to modify the amplitude of the electrostatic waves (viz. the amplitude, width and electric field) of the electron-acoustic solitary waves. The model may provide a possible explanation for the low-frequency component of the broadband electrostatic noise in the plasma sheet boundary layer of the Earth’s magnetotail where the electron beams are not present.  相似文献

This paper is an exploration of the possibility that the large-scale equilibrium of plasma and magnetic fields in the solar corona is a minimum energy state. Support for this conjecture is sought by considering the simplest form of that equilibrium in a dipole solar field, as suggested by the observed structure of the corona at times of minimum solar activity. Approximate, axisymmetric solutions to the MHD equations are constructed to include both a magnetically closed, hydrostatic region and a magnetically open region where plasma flows along field lines in the form of a transonic, thermally-driven wind. Sequences of such solutions are obtained for various degrees of magnetic field opening, and the total energy of each solution is computed, including contributions from both the plasma and magnetic field. It is shown that along a sequence of increasingly closed coronal magnetic field, the total energy curve is a non-monotonic function of the parameter measuring the degree of magnetic field opening, with a minimum occurring at moderate field opening. For reasonable choices of model parameters (coronal temperature, base density, base magnetic field strength, etc.), the morphology of the minimum energy solution resembles the observed quiet, solar minimum corona. The exact location energy minimum along a given sequence depends rather sensitively on some of the adopted parameter values. It is nevertheless argued that the existence of an energy minimum along the sequences of solutions should remain a robust property of more realistic coronal wind models that incorporate the basic characteristics of the equilibrium corona- the presence of both open and closed magnetic regions. The National Center for Atmospheric Research is sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

The ionospheric plasma density on magnetic field lines threading the Jovian rings which are located inside ~1.8 RJ on the jovigraphic equatorial plane, is calculated by using a rotating ion exosphere model. It is found that the bulk of the ionospheric particles on these field lines are on ballistic trajectories. On field lines approximately symmetric with respect to the jovigraphic equator, the ring, which to a first approximation would absorb the population of trapped particles, consequently has little effect. On field lines which are made asymmetric by the higher-order multipoles of Jupiter's field and the tilt of the dipole axis, the rings may have a significant effect. It is suggested that better definition of the rings' atmospheric and ionospheric properties is required to model these localized effects. If the rings are found to be an important plasma source for the inner magnetosphere, the present exospheric model will have to be revised.  相似文献
