New photoelectric times of maximum light of the large amplitude SX Phoenicis star CY Aquarii are analyzed together with times of maximum light in the literature. The general shape of the fitted curve of the observed minus calculated (O-C) times of maximum light suggest the duplicity of the variable star, which causes long-term period variations in the light-time. The period changes of CY Aqr are probably consequences of a continuously increasing period combined with the light-time effect in a binary system. The secondary companion is less massive. Some spectroscopic orbital elements are derived from the O-C diagram. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

BV light curves obtained by Bookmyer (1985) have been analysed with Yamasaki's synthetic technique. As some small difference exists between the light maxima, analysis has been made for the first and the second half of light curve, separately. The result indicates that system parameters deduced from the second half give a better fitting with smaller O-C residuals. These parameters reveal that UZ Pup is contact to the Roche lobe.  相似文献

We present the light curve and photometric solutions of the contact binary AD Cnc. The light curve appears to exhibit a typical O'Connell effect, with Maximum I brighter than Maximum II by 0.010 mag. in V. From 1987 to 2000, the light curve showed changes of shape: the depth of the primary eclipse increased by about 0.056m while that of the secondary eclipse decreased by about 0.032m, so the difference between the primary and the secondary eclipses increased by about 0.088m, while there was no obvious variation in the O'Connell effect. Using the present and past times of minimum light, the changes in the orbital period of the system are analyzed. The result reveals that the orbital period of AD Cnc has continuously increased at a rate of dp/dt = 4.4 ×10-7day yr-1. The light curve is analyzed by means of the latest version of the Wilson-Devinney code. The results show that AD Cnc is a W-subtype contact binary with a small mass ratio of 0.267 and the two components are in poor thermal contact. AD Cnc has  相似文献

Photoelectric observations in B and V for the FZ Del system are presented and its light curves are analyzed. Absolute parameters are obtained. The system shows a near contact subgaint secondary component with a likely K1 spectral type. The O-C curve is presented and probably a secular orbital period variations is detected on a timescale of about 6.9×106 yrs, suggesting thermal timescale mass transfer. A new light elements for the system have been obtained. The system can be considered as an early stage of conservative case of mass transfer. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Photoelectric observations of the eclipsing variable TZ Bootis, obtained in 1983 and 1986, in the two coloursB andV are presented: They are compared with the previous light curves of the system. The light curve changes show that the system TZ Bootis has a solar-like activity cycle with a period of 1500 days. The primary shows a transit, whereas the secondary shows an occultation minima. The maxima exhibit a large difference suggesting a large complication in the system. The (O-C) trend indicates that the period did not remain constant; a satisfactory representation of all the observed time of minimum light was obtaiend assuming a linear trend in the (O-C)s. The star may be classified to A-type W UMa systems.  相似文献

A theoretical model for explaining the O‘Connell effect of close binary stars is given based on the hypothesis that the circumstellar material of a binary system is captured by its components. The results inferred form the model suggest that late-type and /or short-period binaries can easily produce obvious O‘Connell effect and that the occurrence of O‘Connell effect has no relation with the type of binaries,These conclusions are in agreement with the observed results. The observed O‘Connell effects of six binary systems are examined by the model. For three W-subtype W UMa binaries(YY Eri,BX Per and SW Lac).the densities of the materials captured by the two components are assumed to be equal, and the calculated O‘Connell effect is found to be almost equal to the observed effect. For three A-subtype W UMa systems(CN And,FG Hya and AU Ser),the two densities are assumed to be different, and are calculated separately. The calculated O‘Connell effect turns out to agree better with the observed effect than that was formerly obtained.  相似文献

PhotometricUBV-observations of VW Cep, a W UMa-type eclipsing binary, were made in 1971 and 1978–79. The (O-C)-diagram, with the newly determined times of minima extended, shows sudden increases and decreases in the period of VW Cep. The difference light curves (the observed light curves compared with a reference light curve) show some correlations with the sudden change of the period. In particular, the difference between the two light curves from 1971 and 1978 is also presented. The system may be in marginal contact, and as such is possibly unstable with respect to mass exchange between its components. In accordance with the variation of (O-C)-values the mass transfer between the both components is discussed. The difference between the depths of the two minima shows irregular changes, while that between the heights of the two maxima shows a long term variation on which irregular fluctuations are superimposed.  相似文献

AK Her is a very interesting contact binary exhibiting variable lightcurves and an obvious O'Connell effect, with max I greater than max II. Inthe present work an extensive study of this system is made covering notonly its light curve analysis, but also its orbital period changes in anattempt to give a definite answer regarding the apsidal motion of AK Her.Photoelectric observations of AK Her, obtained between 1985–1987 at theNational Observatory of Athens Greece, are presented, analysed anddiscussed. The light curve analysis was made with the W-D code and thegeometric and photometric elements of the system were derived. TheO'Connell effect was faced with a two dark spot model. Moreover, theorbital period of the system was examined and two periodicities weredetected. Since the first one corresponds to the time interval for whichobservational data exist and the second was found to be half of the first,it turns out that none of them is true. Two other significant results thatcame from the present analysis are that the orbital period of AK Her doesnot follow a sinusoidal variation and that, from the times of minimumlight at primary and secondary eclipses, it seems that there is no apsidalmotion.  相似文献

New BV light curves and photometric solutions of the W UMa-type contact binary CU Tau are presented in this paper. From the observations, four times of minimum light were determined and from the present times of minimum light and those collected from the references, a new ephemeris was formed. The O-C diagram of the period change suggests that the orbital period of the system seems to vary. While the B light curve seems to be symmetric, the V light curve appears to exhibit an O'Connell effect, with Maximum I being 0.015 mag. brighter than Maximum II. The light curves are analyzed by means of the latest version of the Wilson-Devinney code. The results show that CU Tau is A-subtype W UMa contact binary with a small mass ratio q = 0.180. The asymmetry of the light curve is explained by star spot models.  相似文献

BVR light curves of ZZ Aurigae were obtained with the 60-cm Cassegrain reflector at the Sobaek Observatory, Korea, between 2000 February and 2001 February. All collected times of minimum light, including our observations, were used for the period study. The period variation could be of quasi-sinusoidal form superposed on an upward parabola. A continuous period increase of  d P /d t =+2.3 × 10−8 d yr−1  was determined for ZZ Aur. The period of quasi-sinusoidal variation is about ∼26–31 yr. Photometric solutions were found using the Wilson–Devinney method. The Roche configuration of ZZ Aur is that of an Algol-type semidetached system where the primary star nearly fills its Roche lobe and the secondary star fills its lobe. The spot model was used to explain the asymmetry in the light curve known as the O'Connell effect.  相似文献

The first light curve solutions of the stars EW and HN in the Pisces constellation are presented. Photometry, and its’ periodic changes are calculated and discussed. The analysis of the O-C diagram is done by the MCMC approach in the OCFit code and a new ephemeris is provided for the two binary systems. The results show that EW Psc is a near contact eclipsing binary system with a photometric mass ratio q = 0.587, and the fillout factor is -0.034 and -0.018 for the primary and secondary components, respectively. The solution results also show that the system HN Psc is a weak-contact W UMa eclipsing binary with a photometric mass ratio q = 0.853, and with a fillout factor of 5.6%. The light curves solutions required a cold spot to account for the O'Connell effect.  相似文献

Seven charge-coupled device(CCD)photometric times of light minimum of the overcontact binary BS Cas which were obtained from 2007 August to November and one CCD light curve in the R band which was observed on 2007 September 24 and October 15,are presented. It is found that the light curve of BS Cas has characteristics like a typical EW-type light variation. The light curve obtained by us is symmetric and shows total eclipses, which is very useful for determining photometric parameters with high precision.Photometric solutions were derived by using the 2003 version of the Wilson-Devinney code.It shows that BS Cas is a W-subtype overcontact binary(f = 27.5% ± 0.4%)with a mass ratio of q = 2.7188 ± 0.0040.The temperature difference between the two components is 190 K.Analysis of the O-C curve suggests that the period of AE Phe shows a long-term continuous decrease at a rate of dP/dt=-2.45 × 10-7 dyr-1.The long-time period decrease can be explained by mass transfer from the primary to the secondary.  相似文献

Photometric observations of the over-contact binary ER ORI were performed during November 2007 and February to April 2008 with the 51 cm telescope of Biruni Observatory of Shiraz University in U, B and V filters (Johnson system) and an RCA 4509 photomultiplier. We used these data to obtain the light curves and calculate the newtimes of minimum light in each filter and plot the O-C diagram of ER ORI. Using theWilson’s computer code with the help of an auxiliary computer program to improve the optimizations, the light curve analyses were carried out to find out the photometric elements of the system.  相似文献

A detailed two colour (BV) photoelectric photometry of the late-type eclipsing binary AD BOO was carried out in 1981 April–May. We found its period to be 2.0688112 d, double what was thought previously. The light curve outside the eclipses is basically flat with Irregular fluctuations of ˜0.075 mag. It is basically an Algol-type curve, with a principal minimum of 0.65 mag and a secondary minimum of 0.40 mag. The O-C diagram of the minimum epoch shows that the period has tended to increase. The photometric solution by the classical Russel-Merrill method gives k = 0.786. The principal minimum corresponds to a partial eclipse of the transit type.  相似文献

The results of BV photometry of AP Leonis are presented. Photometric analysis is carried out by using the Wilson-Devinney program. The solution shows that the system is an over-contact binary with an over-contact degree of 23.5% and its mass ratio q equal to 0.301. A starspot group is found in the low latitude region on the secondary component. The average temperature of the spot is about 1220 K lower than that of surrounding photosphere.

The light minimum times observed over ninety years are collected. The O-C curve of minima reveals that the period of AP Leo changes with the time in a pseudo-sinusoidal pattern and there is probably a third body in the system.  相似文献

Photometric observations of GO Cyg were performed during July–October 2002, in B and V filters (Johnson system). Using the Wilson's computer codes, the light curve analysis were carried out to find the photometric elements of the system. The O-C diagram which is based on the observed times of minima as well as those found in the literature, suggests a negative rate of period variation (i.e. ) for the system.  相似文献

Photometric observations are presented in V and I bands of six eclipsing binaries at the lower limit of the orbital periods for W UMa stars. Three of them are newly discovered eclipsing systems. The light curve solutions reveal that all shortperiod targets are contact or overcontact binaries and six new binaries are added to the family of short-period systems with estimated parameters. Four binaries have components that are equal in size and a mass ratio near 1. The phase variability shown by the V-I colors of all targets may be explained by lower temperatures on their back surfaces than those on their side surfaces. Five systems exhibit the O'Connell effect that can be modeled by cool spots on the side surfaces of their primary components. The light curves of V1067 Her in 2011 and 2012 are fitted by diametrically opposite spots. Applying the criteria for subdivision of W UMa stars to our targets leads to ambiguous results.  相似文献

We report the results of a search for variable stars in the open cluster NGC 2141. Ten variable stars are detected, among which nine are new variable stars and they are classified as three short-period W UMa-type eclipsing binaries, two EAtype eclipsing binaries, one EB-type eclipsing binary, one very short-period RS CVntype eclipsing binary, one d-type RR Lyrae variable star, and one unknown type of variable star. The membership and physical properties are discussed, based on their light curves, positions in the color magnitude diagrams, spatial locations and periods.A known EB-type eclipsing binary is also identified as a blue straggler candidate in the cluster. Furthermore, we find that all eclipsing contact binaries have prominent asymmetric eclipses and display the O'Connell effect, which increases with a decrease in orbital periods. This suggests that the O'Connell effect is probably related to the evolution of the orbital period in short period eclipsing binary systems.  相似文献
