This study evaluates the impact of Pakistan's development policies on regional development, using multi-variate statistical techniques of analysis. Regional economic development policies were inspired by the growth pole theory, but the centralized sectoral planning processes, relying on the market mechanism on the one hand and controlled fiscal and monetary policies on the other, have increased interregional development inequalities. The growth pole planning strategies have stimulated very little development in the lagging areas, especially agricultural development. Future planning strategies need to be divised that will assure development advances in Pakistan's backward regions. 相似文献

Three main diffusion-based models are currently used to study grain-size distributions. In this paper, two of these approaches — perfect sorting and imperfect sorting — are compared in a parameter study. First, the numerical solution of the imperfect-sorting model is extensively discussed, and numerical tests are performed. Then, the two sedimentation models are compared for a basin under varying conditions. For some of the imposed variations, predictions of both models differ markedly due to the different approach. The position of the gravel front in the perfect sorting model depends on gravel input and proximal accommodation space. The position of grain-size boundaries in the imperfect-sorting model is strongly controlled by gravel input, the position of the basin axis and the difference in diffusivities. As a result, those two models may predict gravel progradation for different situations. Both models suggest that gravel progradation should always be coupled with sedimentation rates in order to suggest an explanation of gravel progradation observed in the geological record. Simulations with the imperfect sorting model show that this criterion may also fail, showing that a unique interpretation of gravel progradation may be impossible. 相似文献

This study investigates the performance of empirical and semiempirical models to predict soil moisture from the data of RADARSAT II synthetic aperture radar (SAR) for the Yarmouk basin in Jordan. Data of SAR were obtained for May and June 2010 and were processed to obtain backscatter (σ o ) data for the study area. Results showed significant correlations between soil moisture content (m v ) and horizontally polarized σ o , with coefficient of determination (R 2) of 0.64. The root mean square error for the SAR volumetric soil moisture content was 0.09 and 0.06 m3/m3 for the empirical and semiempirical regression models, respectively. Both models had different clustering patterns in the soil moisture maps in the study area. The spatial agreement between maps of soil moisture was in the range of 55 to 65 % when the maps were reclassified based on intervals of 5 % m v for both models. In terms of soil moisture interval, both models showed that most of soil moisture changes between the two images (dates) were in the range of ±5 %. Some high differences in ?m v were observed between the two models. These were mainly attributed to the non-inverted pixels in the soil moisture maps produced by the semiempirical model. Therefore, this model may be applied for a limited range of soil moisture prediction. The use of regression model could predict a wider range for soil moisture when compared with the semiempirical model. However, more work might be needed to improve the empirical model before scaling it up to the whole study area. 相似文献

Tracer tests are conducted to ascertain solute transport parameters of a single rock feature over a 5-m transport pathway. Two different conceptualizations of double-porosity solute transport provide estimates of the tracer breakthrough curves. One of the conceptualizations (single-rate) employs a single effective diffusion coefficient in a matrix with infinite penetration depth. However, the tracer retention between different flow paths can vary as the ratio of flow-wetted surface to flow rate differs between the path lines. The other conceptualization (multirate) employs a continuous distribution of multiple diffusion rate coefficients in a matrix with variable, yet finite, capacity. Application of these two models with the parameters estimated on the tracer test breakthrough curves produces transport results that differ by orders of magnitude in peak concentration and time to peak concentration at the performance assessment (PA) time and length scales (100,000 years and 1,000 m). These differences are examined by calculating the time limits for the diffusive capacity to act as an infinite medium. These limits are compared across both conceptual models and also against characteristic times for diffusion at both the tracer test and PA scales. Additionally, the differences between the models are examined by re-estimating parameters for the multirate model from the traditional double-porosity model results at the PA scale. Results indicate that for each model the amount of the diffusive capacity that acts as an infinite medium over the specified time scale explains the differences between the model results and that tracer tests alone cannot provide reliable estimates of transport parameters for the PA scale. Results of Monte Carlo runs of the transport models with varying travel times and path lengths show consistent results between models and suggest that the variation in flow-wetted surface to flow rate along path lines is insignificant relative to variability in the amount of diffusive capacity that can be accessed along the transport pathway.
Resumen Delimitando la eficacia de modelos de evaluación con resultados de pruebas de trazadores: una comparación entre dos modelos conceptuales.Se llevaron a cabo pruebas de trazadores para evaluar los parámetros de transporte de solutos en un rasgo rocoso a lo largo de una trayectoria de transporte de 5 m. Dos diferentes conceptualizaciones del transporte de solutos de porosidad doble aportan estimados de las curvas de avance de trazadores. Una de las conceptualizaciones (ritmo único) utiliza un coeficiente de difusión efectiva único en una matriz con profundidad de penetración infinita. Sin embargo, la retención del trazador entre diferentes trayectorias de flujo puede variar debido a que la relación entre la superficie mojada de flujo y el ritmo de flujo difiere entre las líneas de trayectoria. La otra conceptualización (multi-ritmo) utiliza una distribución continua de coeficientes de ritmos de difusión múltiple en una matriz con capacidad variable pero finita. La aplicación de los dos modelos con los parámetros estimados en base a las curvas de avance de trazadores producen resultados de transporte que difieren en varios órdenes de magnitud, tanto en concentración pico como en el tiempo en que se alcanza la concentración pico, en las escalas de evaluación de eficacia (PA) de tiempo y longitud (100,000 años y 1,000 m). Estas diferencias se examinan mediante el cálculo de límites de tiempo en que se considera que la capacidad difusiva actúa como un medio infinito. Estos límites se comparan en ambos modelos conceptuales y contra los tiempos característicos para difusión en escalas de PA y de prueba de trazador. Adicionalmente, se examinan las diferencias entre los modelos calculando de nuevo los parámetros para el modelo multi-ritmo a partir del modelo tradicional de doble porosidad a escala PA. Los resultados indican que para cada modelo la cantidad de la capacidad difusiva que actúa como un medio infinito sobre la escala de tiempo especificada explica las diferencias entre los resultados del modelo y que las pruebas de trazadores por sí solas no aportan cálculos confiables de los parámetros de transporte para la escala PA. Los resultados provenientes de corridas Monte Carlo de los modelos de transporte con distintos tiempos de viaje y diferentes longitudes de trayectorias muestran resultados consistentes entre modelos y sugieren que la variación en la relación de superficie de flujo mojada a ritmo de flujo a lo largo de las líneas de trayectoria es insignificante en relación con la variabilidad en la cantidad de capacidad difusiva que puede alcanzarse a lo largo de la trayectoria de transporte.
Résumé Contraindre le bilan des performances des modèles avec les résultats de traçages: une comparaison entre deux modèles conceptuels.Des tests de traçage sont mis en oeuvre pour étudier les paramètres de transport de soluté dune roche sur une longueur de 5 m. Deux différents modèles de transport de soluté dans un milieu à double porosité fournissent des estimation des courbes de restitution. Lune des conceptualisations (unique taux de restitution) emploie un seul coefficient effectif de diffusion dans une matrice possédant une pénétration infinie en profondeur. Par ailleurs, la rétention du traceur entre les différentes lignes découlement peut varier comme le rapport des débits aux surfaces mouillées et comme le rapport de la différence de débits entres les lignes découlement. Lautre conceptualisation (taux multiple) emploie une distribution continue de coefficients de diffusion dans une matrice à capacité variable et finit. Lapplication de ces deux modèles avec les pa! ramètres estimés grâce aux courbes de restitution produit des résultats de transport qui différent de plusieurs ordres de grandeur dans la magnitude du pic, le temps du pic de concentration, au bilan des performances (PA) et aux échelles de distance (100,000 ans et 1,000 m). Ces différences sont éxaminées par lintermédiaire des temps limites pour que la capacité diffusive équivaille à un milieu infini. Ces limites sont comparées à travers les modèles conceptuels ainsi que les temps caractéristiques de diffusion à léchelle du test de traçage et à léchelle du PA. Par ailleurs, les différences entre les modèles sont éxaminées en réestimant les paramètres pour le modèle à taux multiple à partir des résultats du modèle à double porosité à léchelle du PA. Les résultats indiquent que pour chaque modèle la valeur de la capacité diffusive dans un milieu infini sur une période de temps spécifiée explique les différences entre les modèles et le ! fait que le test de traçage seul ne permet pas de déterminer les paramètres de transport à léchelle du PA. Les résultats des simulations Monte Carlo du modèle de transport avec des temps et des distances de transport variables montrent des résultats concordances entre les différents modèles et suggère que la variation que la variation entre surface mouillée et le rapport de la différence de débits entre les lignes découlement est insignifiante, en regard de la variabilité du montant de la capacité diffusive qui peut être accessible le long de la ligne de transport.相似文献

Four different solution models, the two-parameter Margules, the quasi-chemical (QC), the Wilson and the non-random two-liquid (NRTL) model, have been used for fitting the calorimetric excess enthalpy of solution for the following four binary silicate systems: anorthite-albite, pyrope-grossular, diopside-enstatite and diopside-Ca-Tschermak. All models except the Wilson model yield a satisfactory fit to the data but the NRTL model generally results in the lowest residuals. The use of NRTL and QC facilitates the study of the configurational and non-configurational parts of the excess entropy of mixing.Three different methods, namely those of Kohler, Wohl, and Hillert, have been used to combine binary solution properties to predict ternary solution properties. Comparison of computed excess free energy of mixing in a hypothetical solution shows that all the three methods are viable but the Kohler and Wohl methods are similar to each other and are significantly different from the Hillert method. The Kohler method with one or a combination of different binary models is recommended for predicting multicomponent solution properties.Abbreviations

A good climatic analysis requires accurate and homogeneous daily precipitation series; unluckily, inhomogeneity is frequently found and have to be considered, especially when it is due to non-climatic parameters. CoRain is a free and open source software written in R language that could greatly help analyzing inhomogeneity caused by rainfall measuring instruments. CoRain compares two parallel rain series (with an overlapping period) and tries to highlight overestimations and underestimations due to rain gauges in a specific condition, so that the user can consider it for future analysis. CoRain offers many information on the two analyzed series, starting with cleaning input data, comparing them and classifying rainy days by severity. CoRain is a cross-platform software, easily adaptable to different needs, that takes in input a single text file with daily information of the two rain series and outputs tables (in CSV format) and plots (as PNG images) that help in the interpretation of the data. Use of the program is very simple: the execution can be either interactive or non-interactive. CoRain code has been tested on different rain series in the Piedmont region (northwestern Italy), showing its importance in identifying climate variations and instrumentation errors. 相似文献

A detailed comparison is made of the capability of population balance models to predict steady-state product size distributions of a pilot-scale ball mill. The mill was operated at 60% solids with feed rates of crystalline limestone ranging from 90 to 450 kg/hr (200 to 1000 lb/hr). Two types of lumped parameter models are compared: a linear model in which size reduction parameters are independent of size consist and a nonlinear model in which these parameters are dependent on size consist. The nonlinear model is based on an empirical correlation between rate of breakage and size consist in the mill. Results indicate that the nonlinear model gives the most accurate predictions of product size distributions, however, at the cost of significantly more complex computations. 相似文献

A total of 121 bed sediment samples were collected from a 5.8-km stretch of Manoa Stream, Hawaii. Samples were physically
partitioned into two grain-size fractions, <63 μm and 63–125 μm, acid digested and analyzed by ICP-AES and FAAS. Non-parametric
matched-pair statistical testing and correlation analysis were used to assess differences and strengths of association between
the two fractions for Al, Ba, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, Ti and Zn. Results indicated statistically significant differences between
fractions for all elements except Mn. Concentrations were significantly greater in the <63 μm fraction for Al, Cu, Pb, Ti
and Zn, while Ba, Fe and Ni were higher in the 63–125 μm fraction. Though some elements had statistically significant differences
between fractions (Al, Ba, Fe and Zn) percentage differences were in the range of analytical precision of the instrument and
thus differences were not practically significant. Correlation analysis indicated strong positive associations for all elements
between the two fractions (p<0.0001). Three contamination indices indicated similar degrees of pollution for each size fraction
for four elements having an anthropogenic signal (Ba, Cu, Pb and Zn). The environmental information obtained from the 63–125 μm
fraction was essentially equivalent to that from the <63 μm fraction. In this system it is clear that both bed sediment fractions
indicate anthropogenic enrichment of trace metals, especially Pb, and further supports previous research that has found that
aquatic sediments are critical median for tracing sources of pollution.

The solubility of wollastonite in chloride solutions has been measured between 750° C and 850° C at 2kb pressure and at 800°C at 1 kb pressure. The fugacity of HCl at P and T was controlled by combining Ag+AgCl internally with magnetite +hematite+water as an external hydrogen buffer. Silica activity was fixed by the presence of quartz. The calcium and chloride contents of the solutions were measured after quench. CaCl2 appears to be the major solute species.Using these compositional data, the Gibbs Free Energy of formation for CaCl2 was calculated, assuming that the activity coefficient quotient is near unity. The results were combined with quartz solubility data and calculations made by Joesten (1974) to approximate the compositions of CO2-H2O rich fluids which prevailed during the metasomatic formation of mono-minerallic zones in calc-silicate nodules from a contact aureole in the Christmas Mountains, Texas. The largest predicted gradients in H4SiO4 and CaCl2 occur across the wollastonite zone. 相似文献

A parameter of interest in the theory of comminution is the energy absorbed per unit new surface produced, erg cm?2. Naturally this unit has a certain relation to the strain energy per unit volume of the solid at fracture. Unit new surface energy is calculated from three mathematical models: the first two under static loading and the third under dynamic loading assuming fracture by tensile stresses.The average physical characteristics of limestone, quartz, calcite and glass which are found in the literature are used in the formulas of these three mathematical models. The calculated values of the new surface energies from these models are compared with experimental and theoretical values.The values from these models are reasonably close to those from the experiments, consequently there is the possibility of application of these models in practice. 相似文献

A comparison of logistic regression-based models of susceptibility to landslides in western Colorado,USA 总被引:2,自引:2,他引:2
The Paonia-McClure Pass area of Colorado has been recognized as a region highly susceptible to mass movement. Because of the dynamic nature of this landscape, accurate methods are needed to predict susceptibility to movement of these slopes. The area was evaluated by coupling a geographic information system (GIS) with logistic regression methods to assess susceptibility to landslides. We mapped 735 shallow landslides in the area. Seventeen factors, as predictor variables of landslides, were mapped from aerial photographs, available public data archives, ETM + satellite data, published literature, and frequent field surveys. A logistic regression model was run using landslides as the dependent factor and landslide-causing factors as independent factors (covariates). Landslide data were sampled from the landslide masses, landslide scarps, center of mass of the landslides, and center of scarp of the landslides, and an equal amount of data were collected from areas void of discernible mass movement. Models of susceptibility to landslides for each sampling technique were developed first. Second, landslides were classified as debris flows, debris slides, rock slides, and soil slides and then models of susceptibility to landslides were created for each type of landslide. The prediction accuracies of each model were compared using the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve technique. The model, using samples from landslide scarps, has the highest prediction accuracy (85 %), and the model, using samples from landslide mass centers, has the lowest prediction accuracy (83 %) among the models developed from the four techniques of data sampling. Likewise, the model developed for debris slides has the highest prediction accuracy (92 %), and the model developed for soil slides has the lowest prediction accuracy (83 %) among the four types of landslides. Furthermore, prediction from a model developed by combining the four models of the four types of landslides (86 %) is better than the prediction from a model developed by using all landslides together (85 %). 相似文献

Rates of reduction of Fe(III) oxyhydroxides by the bacterium Shewanella putrefaciens were measured as a function of the bacterial density and the Fe(III) substrate concentration. The results show that an earlier reported positive correlation between the solubility products (*Kso) and the maximum cell-specific reduction rates (vmax) of predominantly poorly crystalline Fe(III) oxyhydroxides also applies to insoluble and crystalline Fe(III) oxyhydroxides. The mineral solubilities were measured by a dialysis bag technique under acidic conditions (pH 1 up to 2.5) at 25 °C. Initial iron reduction rates by S. putrefaciens were determined in the presence of excess lactate as electron donor. In all cases, the microbial reduction rate exhibited saturation behavior with respect to the Fe(III) oxyhydroxide concentration. On a double logarithmic scale, the maximum rates vmax and the solubility products defined a single linear free energy relationship (LFER) for all the Fe(III) oxyhydroxides considered. The solubility provided a better predictor of vmax than the specific surface area of the mineral phase. A rate limitation by the electron transfer between an iron reductase and a Fe(III) center, or by the subsequent desorption of Fe2+ from the iron oxide mineral surface, are both consistent with the observed LFER. 相似文献

从同位素分馏的气-液相界面特征的视角出发,分析自然条件下水面蒸发和降水冷凝的同位素分馏过程存在的差异,分析表明降水氘剩余值产生的直接原因为水面蒸发过程与降水冷凝过程分别遵循动力学分馏与平衡分馏原理,而界面效应是决定蒸发-冷凝过程会否受到动力学过程影响的内因。水面蒸发过程的比界面面积较小,界面效应较大,水分子扩散作用显著,因此,自然条件下水面蒸发过程需要考虑水分子扩散的动力学过程,属于非平衡分馏;相反,降水冷凝过程的比界面面积巨大,界面效应影响很小,分馏基本不受分子扩散分馏影响,降水冷凝过程符合平衡分馏原理。用以上结论作为假设条件,模拟10~40℃从海水蒸发到降水冷凝的水循环过程,模拟结果与全球降水线相吻合,佐证了造成降水氘剩余产生的内在原因为水面蒸发过程与降水冷凝过程的界面效应不同的结论。 相似文献

Seasonal occurrence and vertical distribution of larvae of two genera of brachyuran crab were studied in a secondary estuary flowing into Delaware Bay. Spawning in the xanthid crabRhithropanopeus harrisii occurred earlier with peak abundance of larvae in June and with a distinct decline in abundance in August. In contrast,Uca spp. larvae reached peak abundance in August. All zoeal stages ofR. harrisii were collected in the river suggesting that larvae of this species are retained in secondary estuaries near areas of prime adult habitat. Only zoea stage I larvae and megalopa ofUca spp. were collected in the river indicating that larvae of these speies may be flushed into the Delaware Bay and may not return to secondary estuaries near areas suitable for adult habitat until the megalopa stage is reached.
