A chamber was constructed to simulate the boundary between the ice table, regolith and atmosphere of Mars and to examine fractionation between H2O and HDO during sublimation under realistic martian conditions of temperature and pressure. Thirteen experimental runs were conducted with regolith overlying the ice. The thickness and characteristic grain size of the regolith layer as well as the temperature of the underlying ice was varied. From these runs, values for the effective diffusivity, taking into account the effects of adsorption, of the regolith were derived. These effective diffusivities ranged from 1.8 × 10−4 m2 s−1 to 2.2 × 10−3 m2 s−1 for bare ice and from 2.4 × 10−11 m2 s−1 to 2.0 × 10−9 m2 s−1 with an adsorptive layer present. From these, latent heats of adsorption of 8.6 ± 2.6 kJ mol−1 and 9.3 ± 2.8 kJ mol−1 were derived at ice-surface temperatures above 223 ± 8 K and 96 ± 28 kJ mol−1 and 104 ± 31 kJ mol−1 respectively for H2O and HDO were derived at colder temperatures. For temperatures below 223 K, the effective diffusivity of HDO was found to be lower than the diffusivity of H2O by 40% on average, suggesting that the regolith was adsorptively fractionating the sublimating gas with a fractionation factor of 1.96 ± 0.74. Applying these values to Mars predicts that adsorbed water on the regolith is enriched in HDO compared to the atmosphere, particularly where the regolith is colder. Based on current observations, the D/H ratio of the regolith may be as high as 21 ± 8 times VSMOW at 12°S and LS = 357° if the regolith is hydrated primarily by the atmosphere, neglecting any hydration from subsurface ice.  相似文献

A study has been made using a variable temperature flowing afterglow Langmuir probe technique (VT-FALP) to determine the equilibrium temperature dependencies of the dissociative electron-ion recombination of the protonated cyanide ions (RCNH+, where R=H, CH3 and C2H5) and their symmetrical proton-bound dimers (RCNH+NCR). The power law temperature dependencies of the recombination coefficients, αe, over the temperature range 180 to 600 K for the protonated ions are αe(T)(cm3 s−1)=3.5±0.5×10−7 (300/T)1.38 for HCNH+, αe(T)=3.4±0.5×10−7 (300/T)1.03 for CH3CNH+, and αe(T)=4.6±0.7×10−7 (300/T)0.81 for CH3CH2CNH+. The equivalent values for the proton-bound dimers are αe(T)(cm3 s−1)=2.4±0.4×10−6(300/T)0.5 for (HCN)2H+ to αe(T)=2.8±0.4×10−6(300/T)0.5 for (CH3CN)2H+, and αe(T)=2.3±0.3×10−6(300/T)0.5 for (CH3CH2CN)2H+. The relevance of these data to molecular synthesis in the interstellar medium and the Titan ionosphere are discussed.  相似文献

Multiple non-resonance fluorescence lines of water (H2O) were detected in Comet 153/P Ikeya-Zhang (2002 C1) between UT 2002 March 21.9 (Rh=0.51 AU) and April 13.9 (Rh=0.78 AU), using the Cryogenic Echelle Spectrometer (CSHELL) at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility. Analysis of 2.9-μm water lines enabled accurate determination of rotational temperatures on three dates. The derived H2O rotational temperatures were 138+6−5, 141+10−9, and 94±3 K on UT 2002 March 22.0, March 23.0, and April 13.8, respectively. Water production rates were retrieved from spectral lines measured in nineteen separate grating settings over seven observing periods. The derived heliocentric dependence of the water production rate was Q=(9.2±1.1)×1028[Rh(−3.21±0.26)] molecules s−1. The spatial distribution of H2O in the coma was consistent with its release directly from the nucleus (as a native source) on all dates.  相似文献

The radiation chemistry, thermal stability, and vapor pressure of solid-phase carbonic acid (H2CO3) have been studied with mid-infrared spectroscopy. A new procedure for measuring this molecule’s radiation stability has been used to obtain intrinsic IR band strengths and half-lives for radiolytic destruction. We report, for the first time, measurements of carbonic acid’s vapor pressure (0.290-2.33 × 10−11 bar for 240-255 K) and its enthalpy of sublimation (71 ± 9 kJ mol−1). We also report the first observation of a chemical reaction involving solid-phase carbonic acid. Possible applications of these findings are discussed, with an emphasis on the outer Solar System icy surfaces.  相似文献

The kinetics of the reactions of C2H radical with ethane (k1), propane (k2), and n-butane (k3) are studied over the temperature range of T = 96-296 K with a pulsed Laval nozzle apparatus that utilizes a pulsed laser photolysis-chemiluminescence technique. The C2H decay profiles in the presence of both the alkane reactant and O2 are monitored by the CH(A2Δ) chemiluminescence tracer method. The results, together with available literature data, yield the following Arrhenius expressions: k1(T) = (0.51 ± 0.06) × 10−10 exp[(−76 ± 30)K/T] cm3 molecule−1 s−1 (T = 96-800 K), k2(T) = (0.98 ± 0.32) × 10−10exp[(−71 ± 60)K/T] cm3 molecule−1 s−1 (T = 96-361 K), and k3(T) = (1.23 ± 0.26) × 10−10 cm3 molecule−1 s−1 (T = 96-297 K). At T = 296 K, k1 is measured as a function of total pressure and has little or no pressure dependence. The results from this work support a direct hydrogen abstraction mechanism for the title reactions. Implications to the atmospheric chemistry of Titan are discussed.  相似文献

We present the first spectra of Neptune taken with the Spitzer Space Telescope, highlighting the high-sensitivity, moderate-resolution 10-20 μm (500-1000 cm−1) spectra. We report the discovery of methylacetylene (CH3C2H) and diacetylene (C4H2) with derived 0.1-mbar volume mixing ratios of (1.2±0.1)×10−10 and (3±1)×10−12 respectively.  相似文献

Computer simulations of light scattering by particulate surfaces and single particles forming these surfaces are presented. The ray optics approximation is used. Three types of particles are studied: spheres, cubes, and very irregular particles that are generated with an auxiliary random Gaussian field. The surfaces of the particles are represented as an arrangement of triangular facets. For the Monte Carlo ray tracing 106−107 rays were used. The ray tracing verifies Shkuratov et al.'s (Icarus 137 (1999) 235-246) spectral albedo model for powder-like media. We derive a useful relationship between the hemispheric albedo, Aint, and the bi-directional reflectance, R, at phase angle 30°: logR(30°)=1.088logAint. This relationship provides a way to estimate bi-directional reflectance spectra from laboratory spectra measured with an integrating sphere for surfaces composed of particles of irregular shapes. We study also phase angle curves of the nonzero scattering matrix elements, F11, −F12/F11, F22/F11, F33/F11, F34/F11, F44/F11, for single particles and media thereof. Randomly shaped particles show smoother phase angle behavior than particles with regular shapes that display distinct features. For media consisting of spheres the glory and primary rainbow both are prominent even in the case of conservative (nonabsorbing) scattering. On the other hand, such media clearly exhibit the depolarization effect, showing a significant role of multiple scattering between particles. For media composed of semitransparent cubes the retroreflector spike and a very deep negative polarization branch at small phase angles are observed. We demonstrate that, in the geometric optics approximation, neither a medium of spherical particles nor one of cubic particles is appropriate for modeling light scattering behavior of regolith-like surfaces.  相似文献

In support of the Deep Impact Mission, we have updated the secular light curve of 9P/Tempel 1 presented in Paper I [Ferrín, I., 2005. Icarus 178, 493-516], with new data sets. The secular light curves (SLC) of the comet are presented in the log and time plots (Figs. 1 and 2) and provide a clear profile of the overall shape of the envelope. We arrive at the following conclusions: (1) Improved values of 18 photometric parameters are derived including the turn on and turn off points, RON=−3.47±0.05 AU, ROFF=+4.20±0.05 AU, and TON=−410±25 d, TOFF=+555±25 d. (2) The improved SLC shows a most interesting and peculiar shape, with a linear power law of slope n=7.7±0.1 from RON=−3.47 AU to RBP=−2.08±0.05 AU, and then converts to a law with curvature. The break point of the power law at RBP=−2.08 AU, mV(1,R)=14.0±0.1 mag, is interpreted as a change in sublimating something more volatile than water ice (most probably CO2), to water ice sublimation. In other words, the comet's sublimation is controlled by two different substances. (3) The photometric-age (defined in Paper I) and the time-age of the comet [Ferrín, I., 2006. Icarus. In press] are recomputed, and results in a value P-AGE=21±2 and T-AGE=11±2 comet years. Thus 9P is a young comet. (4) The comet is active almost up to aphelion since the turn off point has been determined at ROFF=+4.20±0.05 AU while aphelion takes place at Q=+4.74 AU. (5) The comet exhibits activity post-aphelion which is not understood. Two hypothesis are advanced to explain this behavior.  相似文献

We study the kinematics of the Galactic thin and thick disk populations using stars from the RAVE survey’s second data release together with distance estimates from Breddels et al. (2010). The velocity distribution exhibits the expected moving groups present in the solar neighborhood. We separate thick and thin disk stars by applying the X (stellar-population) criterion of Schuster et al. (1993), which takes into account both kinematic and metallicity information. For 1906 thin disk and 110 thick disk stars classified in this way, we find a vertical velocity dispersion, mean rotational velocity and mean orbital eccentricity of (σW, 〈VΦ〉, 〈e〉)thin = (18 ± 0.3 km s−1, 223 ± 0.4 km s−1, 0.07 ± 0.07) and (σW, 〈VΦ〉, 〈e〉)thick = (35 ± 2 km s−1, 163 ± 3 km s−1, 0.31 ± 0.16), respectively. From the radial Jeans equation, we derive a thick disk scale length in the range 1.5-2.2 kpc, whose greatest uncertainty lies in the adopted form of the underlying potential. The shape of the orbital eccentricity distribution indicates that the thick disk stars in our sample most likely formed in situ with minor gas-rich mergers and/or radial migration being the most likely cause for their orbits. We further obtain mean metal abundances of 〈[M/H]〉thin = +0.03 ± 0.17, and 〈[M/H]〉thick = −0.51 ± 0.23, in good agreement with previous estimates. We estimate a radial metallicity gradient in the thin disk of −0.07 dex kpc−1, which is larger than predicted by chemical evolution models where the disk grows inside-out from infalling gas. It is, however, consistent with models where significant migration of stars shapes the chemical signature of the disk, implying that radial migration might play at least part of a role in the thick disk’s formation.  相似文献

Fifteen organic and three inorganic compounds were tested for methane (CH4) evolution under simulated martian conditions of 6.9 mbar; UVC (200-280 nm) flux of 4 W m−2; 20 °C; simulated optical depth of 0.1; and a Mars gas composition of CO2 (95.3%), N2 (2.7%), Ar (1.7%), O2 (0.13%), and water vapor (0.03%). All three inorganic compounds (i.e., NaCl, CaCO3, graphite) failed to evolve methane at the minimum detection level 0.5 ppm, or above. In contrast, all organic compounds evolved methane when exposed to UV irradiation under simulated martian conditions. The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, pyrene, released the most methane per unit of time at 0.175 nmol CH4 g−1 h−1, and a spectral reflectance target material used for the MER rovers and Phoenix lander released the least methane at 0.00065 nmol CH4 cm−2 h−1. Methane was also released from UV-killed bacterial endospores of Bacillus subtilis. Although all organic compounds evolved methane when irradiated with UV photons under martian conditions, the concentrations of residual organics, biogenic signature molecules, and dead microbial cells should be relatively low on the exterior surfaces of the MSL rover, and, thus, not significant sources of methane contamination. In contrast, kapton tape was found to evolve methane at the rate of 0.00165 nmol CH4 cm−2 h−1 (16.5 nmol m−2 h−1) under the UV and martian conditions tested. Although the evolution of methane from kapton tape was found to decline over time, the large amount of kapton tape used on the MSL rover (lower bound estimated at 3 m2) is likely to create a significant source of terrestrial methane contamination during the early part of the mission.  相似文献

We present the secular light curve of Comet 2P/Encke in two phase spaces, the log plot, and the time plot. The main conclusions of this work are: (a) The comet shows activity at perihelion and aphelion, caused by two different active areas: Source 1, close to the south pole, active at perihelion, and Source 2, at the north pole, centered at aphelion. (b) More than 18 physical parameters are measured from the secular light curves, many of them new, and are listed in the individual plots of the comet. Specifically we find for Source 1 the location of the turn on and turn off points of activity, RON=−1.63±0.03 AU, ROFF=+1.49±0.20 AU, TON=−87±5 d, TOFF=+94±15 d, the time lag, LAG(q)=6±1 d, the total active time, TACTIVITY=181±16 d, and the amplitude of the secular light curve, ASEC(1,1)=4.8±0.1 mag. (c) From this information the photometric age and the time-age defined in Ferrín [2005a. Icarus 178, 493-516; 2006. Icarus 185, 523-543], can be calculated, and we find P-AGE = 97 ± 8 comet years and T-AGE = 103 ± 9 comet years (cy). Thus Comet 2P/Encke is an old comet entering the methuselah stage (100 cy < age). (d) The activity at aphelion (Source 2), extends for TACTIVITY=815±30 d and the amplitude of the secular light curve is ASEC(1,Q)=3.0±0.2 mag. (e) From a new phase diagram an absolute magnitude and phase coefficient for the nucleus are determined, and we find RNUC(1,1,0)=15.05±0.14, and β=0.066±0.003. From this data we find a nucleus effective diameter DEFFE=5.12(+2.5;−1.7) km. These values are not much different from previous determinations but exhibit smaller errors. (f) The activity of Source 1 is due to H2O sublimation because it shows curvature. The activity of Source 2 might also be due to H2O due to the circumstantial situation that the poles point to the Sun at perihelion and aphelion. (g) We found a photometric anomaly at aphelion, with minimum brightness between +393 and +413 days after perihelion that may be an indication of topography. (h) We have re-reduced the 1858 secular light curve of Kamel [1991. Icarus 93, 226-245]. There are secular changes in 7 physical parameters, and we achieve for the first time, an absolute age calibration. We find that the comet entered the inner Solar System and began sublimating in 1645±40 AD. (i) It is concluded that the secular light curve can place constraints on the pole orientation of the nucleus of some comets, and we measure the ecliptic longitude of the south pole of 2P/Encke equal to 213.2±4.5°, in excellent agreement with other determinations of this parameter, but with smaller error. (j) Using the observed absolute magnitude of 1858 and 2003 and a suitable theoretical model, the extinction date of the comet is determined. We obtain ED=2056±3 AD, implying that the comet's lifetime is 125±12 revolutions about the Sun after entering the inner Solar System.  相似文献

Ethane (C2H6), methylacetylene (CH3C2H or C3H4) and diacetylene (C4H2) have been discovered in Spitzer 10-20 μm spectra of Uranus, with 0.1-mbar volume mixing ratios of (1.0±0.1)×10−8, (2.5±0.3)×10−10, and (1.6±0.2)×10−10, respectively. These hydrocarbons complement previously detected methane (CH4) and acetylene (C2H2). Carbon dioxide (CO2) was also detected at the 7-σ level with a 0.1-mbar volume mixing ratio of (4±0.5)×10−11. Although the reactions producing hydrocarbons in the atmospheres of giant planets start from radicals, the methyl radical (CH3) was not found in the spectra, implying much lower abundances than in the atmospheres of Saturn or Neptune where it has been detected. This finding underlines the fact that Uranus' atmosphere occupies a special position among the giant planets, and our results shed light on the chemical reactions happening in the absence of a substantial internal energy source.  相似文献

Venus nightglow was observed at NASA IRTF using a high-resolution long-slit spectrograph CSHELL at LT = 21:30 and 4:00 on Venus. Variations of the O2 airglow at 1.27 μm and its rotational temperature are extracted from the observed spectra. The mean O2 nightglow is 0.57 MR at 21:30 at 35°S-35°N, and the temperature increases from 171 K near the equator to ∼200 K at ±35°. We have found a narrow window that covers the OH (1-0) P1(4.5) and (2-1) Q1(1.5) airglow lines. The detected line intensities are converted into the (1-0) and (2-1) band intensities of 7.2 ± 1.8 kR and <1.4 kR at 21:30 and 15.5 ± 2 kR and 4.7 ± 1 kR at 4:00. The f-component of the (1-0) P1(4.5) line has not been detected in either observation, possibly because of resonance quenching in CO2. The observed Earth’s OH (1-0) and (2-1) bands were 400 and 90 kR at 19:30 and 250 and 65 kR at 9:40, respectively. A photochemical model for the nighttime atmosphere at 80-130 km has been made. The model involves 61 reactions of 24 species, including odd hydrogen and chlorine chemistries, with fluxes of O, N, and H at 130 km as input parameters. To fit the OH vibrational distribution observed by VEX, quenching of OH (v > 3) in CO2 only to v ? 2 is assumed. According to the model, the nightside-mean O2 emission of 0.52 MR from the VEX and our observations requires an O flux of 2.9 × 1012 cm−2 s−1 which is 45% of the dayside production above 80 km. This makes questionable the nightside-mean O2 intensities of ∼1 MR from some observations. Bright nightglow patches are not ruled out; however, the mean nightglow is ∼0.5 MR as observed by VEX and supported by the model. The NO nightglow of 425 R needs an N flux of 1.2 × 109 cm−2 s−1, which is close to that from VTGCM at solar minimum. However, the dayside supply of N at solar maximum is half that required to explain the NO nightglow in the PV observations. The limited data on the OH nightglow variations from the VEX and our observations are in reasonable agreement with the model. The calculated intensities and peak altitudes of the O2, NO, and OH nightglow agree with the observations. Relationships for the nightglow intensities as functions of the O, N, and H fluxes are derived.  相似文献

In this work we analyze the spatial structure of Jupiter's cloud reflectivity field in order to determine brightness periodicities and power spectra characteristics together with their relationship with Jupiter's dynamics and turbulence. The research is based on images obtained in the near-infrared (∼950 nm), blue (∼430 nm) and near-ultraviolet (∼260 nm) wavelengths with the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995 and the Cassini spacecraft Imaging Science Subsystem in 2000. Zonal reflectivity scans were analyzed by means of spatial periodograms and power spectra. The periodograms have been used to search for waves as a function of latitude. We present the values of the dominant wavenumbers for latitude bands between 32° N and 42° S. The brightness power spectra analysis has been performed in the meridional and zonal directions. The meridional analysis of albedo profiles are close to a k−5 law similarly to the wind profiles at blue and infrared wavelengths, although results differ from that in the ultraviolet. The zonal albedo analysis results in two distributions characterized by different slopes. In the near infrared and blue wavelengths, average spectral slopes are n1=−1.3±0.4 for shorter wavenumbers (k<80), and n2=−2.5±0.7 for greater wavenumbers, whereas for the ultraviolet n1=−1.9±0.4 and n2=−0.7±0.4, possibly showing a different dynamical regime. We find a turning point in the spectra between both regimes at wavenumber k∼80 (corresponding to L∼1000 km) for all wavelengths.  相似文献

On August 11, 2004, we made adaptive optics observations of the Uranus and Neptune systems with the Keck II Near Infrared Camera. Uranus and Triton were observed in three broadband filters (J, H, and K-prime) and four narrowband filters [Hcont, FeII, He1_B, and H2(v=1-0)]. Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, and Oberon were observed in the four narrowband filters only. To achieve the highest possible photometric accuracy, and thus the tightest possible constraints on atmospheric aerosol models and gas mixing ratios, we used aperture photometry that accounted for the dependence of point-spread functions and growth curves on the adaptive optics reference object, and accounted for recently determined phase curves of each object. The satellite albedos we determined were compared with published relative spectra to verify the relative consistency of our observations, which were subsequently used to convert published relative spectra to absolute spectra. We used these absolute spectra and synthetic photometry methods to compare published values in dissimilar photometric systems to each other and to our observations. We find our satellite albedos in best agreement with photometry from Karkoschka [Karkoschka, E., 2001. Icarus 151, 51-68], which is the best characterized and most contemporaneous data set. Our estimated absolute accuracy of 5% to 8% is consistent with these intercomparisons. We obtained the following ring-subtracted and discrete feature-free albedos of Uranus: J: (1.66±0.07)×10−2, H: (1.09±0.05)×10−2, K: (2.08±0.15)×10−4, Hcont: (3.71±0.23)×10−2, FeII: (1.14±0.07)×10−3, He1_B: (2.06±0.16)×10−4, and H2: (1.27±0.10)×10−4.  相似文献

New photometry for the eclipsing binary BE Cephei was performed from 2008 to 2011. The light-curve synthesis indicates that it is a marginal-contact binary with a mass ratio of q = 2.340(±0.009) and a degree of contact of f = 6.9%(±2.3%). From the O − C curve, it is discovered that the orbital period changes show a sinusoidal curve superimposed on a downward parabola. The period and semi-amplitude of the cyclic variation are Pmod = 59.26(±0.52) yr and A = 0.d0067(±0.d0010), which may be possibly attributed to light-time effect via the presence of an unseen third body. The long-term period decreases at a rate of dP/dt = −4.84(±0.31) × 10−8 d yr−1, which may result from mass transfer from the more massive component to the less massive one, accompanied by angular momentum loss. With the period decreasing, the degree of contact will increase. Finally, the marginal-contact binary BE Cep may be evolving into a deep-contact configuration.  相似文献

New laboratory spectra of crystalline and amorphous diacetylene ice have been recorded in the range of 7000-500 cm−1 (1.4-20 μm) to aid in the identification of solid diacetylene on Saturn's moon Titan. We have established that amorphous diacetylene ice is stable only at temperatures less than 70±1 K. With respect to observations on Titan, the best approach would be to utilize future space-based telescopes to search for the ν4 (3277/3271 cm−1) in absorption against the reflected light from the sun and the slightly weaker ν8 absorption bands (676/661 cm−1) in absorption against the continuum emission.  相似文献

Radar echoes from Earth co-orbital Asteroid 2002 AA29 yield a total-power radar cross section of 2.9×10−5 km2 ±25%, a circular polarization ratio of SC/OC=0.26±0.07, and an echo bandwidth of at least 1.5 Hz. Combining these results with the estimate of its visual absolute magnitude, HV=25.23±0.24, from reported Spacewatch photometry indicates an effective diameter of 25±5 m, a rotation period no longer than 33 min, and an average surface bulk density no larger than 2.0 g cm−3; the asteroid is radar dark and optically bright, and its statistically most likely spectral class is S. The HV estimate from LINEAR photometry (23.58±0.38) is not compatible with either Spacewatch's HV or our radar results. If a bias this large were generally present in LINEAR's estimates of HV for asteroids it has discovered or observed, then estimates of the current completeness of the Spaceguard Survey would have to be revised downward.  相似文献

On September 8, 2001 around 2 h UT, the largest uranian moon, Titania, occulted Hipparcos star 106829 (alias SAO 164538, a V=7.2, K0 III star). This was the first-ever observed occultation by this satellite, a rare event as Titania subtends only 0.11 arcsec on the sky. The star's unusual brightness allowed many observers, both amateurs or professionals, to monitor this unique event, providing fifty-seven occultations chords over three continents, all reported here. Selecting the best 27 occultation chords, and assuming a circular limb, we derive Titania's radius: (1-σ error bar). This implies a density of using the value derived by Taylor [Taylor, D.B., 1998. Astron. Astrophys. 330, 362-374]. We do not detect any significant difference between equatorial and polar radii, in the limit , in agreement with Voyager limb image retrieval during the 1986 flyby. Titania's offset with respect to the DE405 + URA027 (based on GUST86 theory) ephemeris is derived: ΔαTcos(δT)=−108±13 mas and ΔδT=−62±7 mas (ICRF J2000.0 system). Most of this offset is attributable to a Uranus' barycentric offset with respect to DE405, that we estimate to be: and ΔδU=−85±25 mas at the moment of occultation. This offset is confirmed by another Titania stellar occultation observed on August 1st, 2003, which provides an offset of ΔαTcos(δT)=−127±20 mas and ΔδT=−97±13 mas for the satellite. The combined ingress and egress data do not show any significant hint for atmospheric refraction, allowing us to set surface pressure limits at the level of 10-20 nbar. More specifically, we find an upper limit of 13 nbar (1-σ level) at 70 K and 17 nbar at 80 K, for a putative isothermal CO2 atmosphere. We also provide an upper limit of 8 nbar for a possible CH4 atmosphere, and 22 nbar for pure N2, again at the 1-σ level. We finally constrain the stellar size using the time-resolved star disappearance and reappearance at ingress and egress. We find an angular diameter of 0.54±0.03 mas (corresponding to projected at Titania). With a distance of 170±25 parsecs, this corresponds to a radius of 9.8±0.2 solar radii for HIP 106829, typical of a K0 III giant.  相似文献

New methods are applied to samples of classical cepheids in the galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud, and the Small Magellanic Cloud to determine the interstellar extinction law for the classical cepheids, R B:R V:R I:R J:R H:R K= 4.190:3.190:1.884:0.851:0.501:0.303, the color excesses for classical cepheids in the galaxy, E(B-V)=-0.382-0.168logP+0.766(V-I), and the color excesses for classical cepheids in the LMC and SMC, E(B-V)=-0.374-0.166logP+0.766(V-I). The dependence of the intrinsic color (B-V)0 on the metallicity of classical cepheids is discussed. The intrinsic color (V-I)0 is found to be absolutely independent of the metallicity of classical cepheids. A high precision formula is obtained for calculating the intrinsic colors of classical cepheids in the galaxy: (<B>-<V>)0=0.365(±0.011)+0.328(±0.012)logP.  相似文献
