Numerical Investigation of the Influence of Mineral Dust on the Tropospheric Chemistry of East Asia 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
An investigation of the influence of mineral dust ontrace gas cycles in the troposphere is carried out inthis study. A 3D regional scale atmospheric chemistrymodel (STEM-III) which includes aerosol processes isused for the numerical simulations for May 1987.Heterogeneous interactions between gaseous species(SO2, N2O5, HNO3, HO2andH2O2) and the dust particles are considered.Emissions of dust behind convective cold fronts aremodeled. The transport and distribution of mineraldust predicted from the model is compared withsatellite measurements (aerosol index from TOMS). Themodel is shown to capture the synoptic variability inthe observed aerosol index. Calculations show twomajor dust events in May 1987, during which thedust levels close to the source reach more than500 g/m3. The transport of dust is mostlyrestricted towards the north, with the net continentaloutflow of 6 Tg for the entire month. Results showthat the presence of mineral aerosol can greatlyimpact sulfate and nitrate distributions. Averagedover the month of May, the presence of dust isestimated to increase particulate sulfate and nitratelevels in east Asia by 40%. Furthermore, the sulfateand nitrate on the dust particles are predicted to beassociated with the coarse mode (3–5 m particlediameter), consistent with observations over Japan.The influence of mineral dust on the photochemicaloxidant cycle is also investigated. For the entiremonth, a5–10% decrease in boundary layer ozone ispredicted by the model closer to regions of higherdust levels. The ratio of nitric acid to NOx overmarine regions is reduced by a factor between 1 and 2in the boundary layer to more than 2 in the freetroposphere as a result of aerosol processes. 相似文献

Simulation of the Direct Radiative Effect of Mineral Dust and Sea Salt Aerosols in a Doubled Carbon Dioxide Climate 下载免费PDF全文
The authors examine the equilibrium climatic response to the direct radiative effect(DRE)of mineral dust and sea salt aerosols in a doubled-CO2climate with two-way coupling of aerosol-climate interactions.In response to the drier and windier conditions,dust emissions increase by 26%in the Sahara Desert and by 18%on the global scale relative to present day.Sea salt emissions increase in high latitudes(60°)but decrease in middle latitudes(30°–60°)of both hemispheres due to the poleward shift of westerlies,leading to a 3%decrease in global emissions.The burdens of dust and sea salt increase by 31%and 7%respectively,because reductions in rainfall over the tropical oceans increase the lifetime of particles in the warmer climate.The higher aerosol loading in the doubled-CO2climate reinforces aerosol DRE by0.2 W m 2,leading to an additional cooling of 0.1°C at the surface compared with the climatic effects of aerosols in present day.The additional cooling from changes in natural aerosols compensates for up to 15%of the regional warming induced by doubled CO2. 相似文献

This paper presents a Raman lidar for measuring tropospheric water vapor profiles over Hefei(31.9°N,117.17°E),China.Intercomparisons of water vapor mixing ratio obtained by this Raman lidar and GZZ-59 type radiosonde observations show the good agreements when relative humidity is higher than 20%.Typical vertical profiles and seasonal variations of water vapor mixing ratio distribution are reported.Many observation eases indicate that the high moisture layer corresponds to large aerosol scattering ratios in the lower troposphere. 相似文献

Lidar has been used extensively in the area of atmospheric aerosol measurement. Two unknowns at the reference altitude, the lidar ratio and the backscatter coefficient, need to be resolved from the lidar equation. In the actual application, these two values are difficult to obtain, particularly the backscatter coefficient. To better characterize the optical properties of aerosols, optical thickness, and attenuated backscatter obtained by other instruments are usually used as the input for joint inversion. However, this method is limited by location and time. In this study, the authors propose a new method for aerosol retrieval by using Mie scatter- ing lidar data to solve this problem. The authors take the horizontal aerosol extinction coefficient as the con- straint to begin the iteration until a self-consistent aerosol vertical profile was obtained. By comparing their results with Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) data, the authours determine that the aerosol extinction coefficient obtained by combining horizontal and vertical lidar observations is more pre- cise than that obtained by using the traditional Fernald method. This new method has been adopted for re- trieving the extinction coefficient of aerosols during the observation days. 相似文献

An Overview of the Studies on Black Carbon and Mineral Dust Deposition in Snow and Ice Cores in East Asia 下载免费PDF全文
Black carbon (BC) is the most eff ective insoluble light-absorbing particulate (ILAP), which can strongly absorb solar radiation at visible wavelengths. Once BC is deposited in snow via dry or wet process, even a small amount of BC could signifi cantly decrease snow albedo, enhance absorption of solar radiation, accelerate snow melting, and cause climate feedback. BC is considered the second most important component next to CO2 in terms of global warming. Similarly, mineral dust (MD) is another type of ILAP. So far, little attention has been paid to quantitative measurements of BC and MD deposition on snow surface in the midlatitudes of East Asia, especially over northern China. In this paper, we focus on reviewing several experiments performed for collecting and measuring scavenging BC and MD in the high Asian glaciers over the mountain range (such as the Himalayas) and in seasonal snow over northern China. Results from the surveyed literature indicate that the absorption of ILAP in seasonal snow is dominated by MD in the Qilian Mountains and by local soil dust in the Inner Mongolian region close to dust sources. The detection of BC in snow and ice cores using modern techniques has a large bias and uncertainty when the snow sample is mixed with MD. Evidence also indicates that the reduction of snow albedo by BC and MD perturbations can signifi cantly increase the net surface solar radiation, cause surface air temperature to rise, reduce snow accumulation, and accelerate snow melting. 相似文献

Cirrus clouds related to transported dust layers were identified on 22 occasions with ground-based polarization lidar from December 2012 to February 2018 over Wuhan (30.5°N, 114.4°E), China. All the events occurred in spring and winter. Cirrus clouds were mostly located above 7.6 km on top of the aloft dust layers. In-cloud relative humidity with respect to ice (RHi) derived from water vapor Raman lidar as well as from ERA5 reanalysis data were used as criteria to determine the possible ice nucleation regimes. Corresponding to the two typical cases shown, the observed events can be classified into two categories: (1) category A (3 cases), in-cloud peak RHi ≥ 150%, indicating competition between heterogeneous nucleation and homogeneous nucleation; and (2) category B (19 cases), in-cloud peak RHi < 150%, revealing that only heterogeneous nucleation was involved. Heterogeneous nucleation generally took place during instances of cirrus cloud formation in the upper troposphere when advected dust particles were present. Although accompanying cloud-top temperatures ranged from –51.9°C to –30.4°C, dust-related heterogeneous nucleation contributed to primary ice nucleation in cirrus clouds by providing ice nucleating particle concentrations on the order of 10?3 L?1 to 102 L?1. Heterogeneous nucleation and subsequent crystal growth reduced the ambient RHi to be less than 150% by consuming water vapor and thus completely inhibited homogeneous nucleation. 相似文献

Emissions of mineral dust and its mixing with anthropogenic air pollutants affect both regional and global climates. Our fieldwork in late spring 2007(April 25–June 15) measured the physical and optical properties of dust storms mixed with local air pollutants at a rural site about 48 km southeast of central Lanzhou. Levels of air pollutants and aerosol optical properties were observed during the experiment, with concentrations of NOx(6.8 ± 3.3 ppb, average ± standard deviation), CO(694 ± 486 ppb), SO2(6.2 ±10 ppb), O3(50.7 ± 13.1 ppb), and PM10(172 ± 180 μg m-3), and aerosol scattering coefficient(164 ±89 Mm-1; 1 Mm = 106m) and absorption coefficient(11.7 ± 6.6 Mm-1), all much lower than the values observed during air pollution episodes in urban areas. During a major dust storm, the mass concentration of PM10 reached 4072 μg m-3, approximately 21-fold higher than in non-dust storm periods. The mixing ratios of trace gases declined noticeably after a cold front passed through. The observed CO/SO2 and CO/NOx ratios during air pollution episodes were 4.2–18.3 and 13.7–80.5, respectively, compared with the corresponding ratios of 38.1–255.7 and 18.0–245.9 during non-pollution periods. Our investigations suggest that dust storms have a significant influence on air quality in areas far from their source, and this large-scale transport of dust and air pollutants produces major uncertainties in the quantification of the global effects of emissions over Northwest China. 相似文献

利用离散偶极子近似法,数值计算分析了随机取向旋转椭球体沙尘气溶胶粒子在尺度参数为0.1~23时(波长0.55 μm对应有效半径为0.01~2 μm)的激光雷达线退偏比特性,通过比较其不同旋转椭球体轴半径比下的差别,研究了粒子非球形性程度对单分散和多分散沙尘气溶胶激光雷达线退偏比特性的影响.单分散旋转椭球体沙尘气溶胶的激光雷达线退偏比对粒子的轴半径比和尺度参数有很强的依赖性;对于长旋转椭球体,沙尘激光雷达线退偏比较小值出现在瑞利散射区,而较大的值出现在米散射区;对于扁旋转椭球体,在米散射区较大沙尘粒子也可以产生较小的激光雷达线退偏比,例如,轴半径比为1/16,尺度参数为3时的沙尘激光雷达线退偏比仅为0.1%.就随机取向旋转椭球体沙尘粒子而言,对于单分散系,仅当尺度参数小于0.5时,非球形特征越明显,其激光雷达线退偏比越大;而对多分散系,非球形特征越明显,其激光雷达线退偏比越大. 相似文献

The relationship between local meteorological fields and the behaviour of airborne Asian dust that arrived in the Tokyo metropolitan
area on 1 April 2007 with the passage of a synoptic-scale cold front has been investigated through Doppler lidar observations,
experiments using a regional atmospheric numerical model, and analyses of surface and upper-air meteorological observations.
Results of the Doppler lidar observations showed that the Asian dust passed above the metropolitan area with strong south-westerly
winds with speeds of 15–26 m s−1. Meteorological fields reproduced by the numerical experiments showed the development of a surface-based stable layer in
the metropolitan area caused by nocturnal radiational cooling near the ground surface and south-westerly warm air advection
at upper levels. The blocking effect of the mountainous region located to the west of the metropolitan area induced an area
of stagnant air inside the metropolitan area and promoted the stable layer development. Although strong downdrafts prevailed
in the upper air, the airborne Asian dust did not spread to the ground when the stable layer was formed. These results strongly
indicate that the developed stable layer prevented strong downdrafts from spreading to the ground, acting as an obstacle to
the transport of the Asian dust particles from the upper air towards the ground. This is considered to be one of the main
causes of the low appearance frequency of Asian dust phenomena near the ground in the Tokyo metropolitan area and eastern

气溶胶激光雷达由于系统设计、观测场地气候条件、反演过程中参数选取等因素不同,每次测量反演得到的气溶胶光学参数质量不一致,可信度难以评估,进而极大地影响了其在气象、环保等领域业务化应用。为了解决该难题,本文分析了影响激光雷达气溶胶光学参数质量的因素,开发了一套气溶胶光学参数质量可信度评估算法。采用科学、合理的评分和权重分配方案对激光雷达每次测量反演得到的气溶胶光学参数质量可信度进行评估。本文主要讨论对偏振、米散射激光雷达气溶胶光学参数的质量评估,以中国气象局气象探测中心的波长为532 nm的偏振、米散射激光雷达为例,对所提出的质量可信度评估算法进行验证和分析。结果表明:该算法能够有效地区分出不同激光雷达在不同观测场景下每次测量反演得到的气溶胶光学参数质量可信度,具备为气溶胶激光雷达业务化应用提供可靠性评估的能力。 相似文献

The vertical distribution of single scattering albedos (SSAs) of Asian dust mixed with pollutants was derived using the multi-wavelength Raman lidar observation system at Gwangju (35.10°N,126.53°E).Vertical profiles of both backscatter and extinction coefficients for dust and non-dust aerosols were extracted from a mixed Asian dust plume using the depolarization ratio from lidar observations.Vertical profiles of backscatter and extinction coefficients of non-dust particles were input into an inversion algorithm to retrieve the SSAs of non-dust aerosols.Atmospheric aerosol layers at different heights had different light-absorbing characteristics.The SSAs of non-dust particles at each height varied with aerosol type,which was either urban/industrial pollutants from China transported over long distances at high altitude,or regional/local pollutants from the Korean peninsula.Taking advantage of independent profiles of SSAs of non-dust particles,vertical profiles of SSAs of Asian dust mixed with pollutants were estimated for the first time,with a new approach suggested in this study using an empirical determination of the SSA of pure dust.The SSAs of the Asian dust-pollutants mixture within the planetary boundary layer (PBL) were in the range 0.88-0.91,while the values above the PBL were in the range 0.76-0.87,with a very low mean value of 0.76 ± 0.05.The total mixed dust plume SSAs in each aerosol layer were integrated over height for comparison with results from the Aerosol Robotics Network (AERONET) measurements.Values of SSA retrieved from lidar observations of 0.92 ± 0.01 were in good agreement with the results from AERONET measurements. 相似文献

In this paper, the methods to detect dust based on passive and active measurements from satellites have been summarized. These include the visible and infrared (VIR) method, thermal infrared (TIR) method, microwave polarized index (MPI) method, active lidar-based method, and combined lidar and infrared measurement (CLIM) method. The VIR method can identify dust during daytime. Using measurements at wavelengths of 8.5, 11.0, and 12.0 μm, the TIR method can distinguish dust from other types of aerosols and cloud, and identify the occurrence of dust over bright surfaces and during night. Since neither the VIR nor the TIR method can penetrate ice clouds, they cannot detect dust beneath ice clouds. The MPI method, however, can identify about 85% of the dust beneath ice clouds. Meanwhile, the active lidar-based method, which uses the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar with Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP) data and five-dimensional probability distribution functions, can provide very high-resolution vertical profiles of dust aerosols. Nonetheless, as the signals from dense dust and thin clouds are similar in the CALIOP measurements, the lidar-based method may fail to distinguish between them, especially over dust source regions. To address this issue, the CLIM method was developed, which takes the advantages of both TIR measurements (to discriminate between ice cloud and dense dust layers) and lidar measurements (to detect thin dust and water cloud layers). The results obtained by using the new CLIM method show that the ratio of dust misclassification has been significantly reduced. Finally, a concept module for an integrated multi-satellites dust detection system was proposed to overcome some of the weaknesses inherent in the single-sensor dust detection. 相似文献
