Collisionless shocks in turbulent space plasmas accelerate particles by the Fermi mechanism to ultrarelativistic energies. The interaction of accelerated particles with the plasma inflow produces extended supersonic MHD flows of multicomponent plasma. We investigate the instabilities of a flow of three-component turbulent plasma with relativistic particles against long-wavelength perturbations with scales larger than the accelerated particle transport mean free path and the initial turbulence scales. The presence of turbulence allows us to formulate the system of single-fluid equations, the equation of motion for the medium as a whole, and the induction equation for the magnetic field with turbulent magnetic and kinematic viscosities. The current of accelerated particles enters into the induction equation with an effective magnetic diffusion coefficient. We have calculated the local growth rates of the perturbations related to the nonresonant long-wavelength instability of the current of accelerated particles for MHD perturbations in the WKB approximation. The amplification of long-wavelength magnetic field perturbations in the flow upstream of the shock front can affect significantly the maximum energies of the particles accelerated by a collisionless shock and can lead to the observed peculiarities of the synchrotron X-ray radiation in supernova remnants.  相似文献

The acceleration of relativistic particles is considered during their intersection with hydromagnetic shock fronts in the presence of randomly distributed large-scale magnetic fields. In a series of astronomical objects, the Larmor radius of the relativistic particles exceeds the width of the shock front. In this case there is a change in the adiabatic invariant which results in an increase in the energy of the particle when it crosses the front in any direction. We have proved that the adiabatic part of the energy change will be partially or completely compensated by its reverse change in the weaker regions of the magnetic field. The acceleration mechanism considered is found to be more effective than the Fermi mechanism. If the mean free path of the particles is much less than the distance between the shock fronts, magnetic small-scale fluctuations cause further scattering of the particles. In this case the particles following and crossing the front will return to it. After reversed crossing, a fraction of the particles-defined by the ratio of the front speed to the particle velocity or of the distance between the fronts to the free path — will not return to the front. It is proved that for both large and small free paths the rates at which the particle gains energy are nearly the same.  相似文献

The possibility of accelerated protons in solar flares having a sharp change in their spectral index is discussed. The analysis is based on the Tsytovich (1982, 1984, 1987a, b, c) acceleration model by MHD turbulence, which is shown to have different resonant conditions for non-relativistic and relativistic particles. The different resonant condition is shown to result in a sharp change in the accelerated proton spectral index, even in the absence of any peculiarity in the spectra of the MHD turbulence. Time scales for accelerated protons to relativistic energies are also derived, and shown to be consistent with observations. We also show that the threshold energy for electron acceleration by low frequency MHD turbulence is much greater than for proton acceleration. The turbulence therefore preferentially accelerates protons.  相似文献

The MHD instabilities of a temperature-anisotropic coronal plasma are considered. We show that aperiodic mirror instabilities of slow MHD waves can develop under solar coronal conditions for weak magnetic fields (B < 1 G) and periodic ion-acoustic instabilities can develop for strong magnetic fields (B > 10 G). We have found the instability growth rates and estimated the temporal and spatial scales of development and decay of the periodic instability. We show that the instabilities under consideration can play a prominent role in the energy balance of the corona and may be considered as a large-scale energy source of the wave coronal heating mechanism.  相似文献

We consider the generation of a magnetic field in the Galaxy by the electric currents excited by cosmic-ray particles in the disk and halo. We assume that the sources of relativistic particles are distributed continuously and uniformly in the Galactic disk, their total power is equal to the observed value, and the particles themselves undergo anisotropic diffusion in a homogeneous medium. We take into account the differential rotation of the Galactic disk but disregard the turbulence gyrotropy (the α effect). The strength of the generated magnetic field in our model is shown to strongly depend on the symmetry of the relativistic proton and thermal electron diffusion tensors, as well as on the relations between the tensor components. In particular, if the diffusion is isotropic, then no magnetic field is generated. For the independent tensor components estimated from observed parameters of the Galactic medium and with a simultaneous allowance made for the turbulent field dissipation processes, the mechanism under consideration can provide an observable magnetic-field strength of the order of several microgauss. This mechanism does not require any seed magnetic field, which leads us to suggest that relativistic particles can give an appreciable and, possibly, determining contribution to the formation of the global Galactic magnetic field. However, a final answer can be obtained only from a nonlinear self-consistent treatment, in which the symmetry and magnitude of the particle diffusion tensor components should be determined together with the calculation of the magnetic field.  相似文献

We examine the acceleration of cosmic rays in the magnetospheres of collapsing stars with initial dipole magnetic fields and various initial energy distributions of charged particles in their magnetospheres (the exponential, relativistic Maxwellian, and Boltzmann distributions were considered). When a magnetized star contracts at the gravitational collapse stage, its magnetic field grows considerably. Such a variable magnetic field generates an eddy electric field. Our calculations suggest that this electric field can accelerate charged particles to relativistic energies. In this way collapsing stars can be sources of high-energy cosmic rays in our Galaxy as well as in other galaxies.  相似文献

We discuss the structure and relativistic kinematics that develop in three spatial dimensions when a moderately hot, supersonic jet propagates into a denser background medium and encounters resistance from an oblique magnetic field. Our simulations incorporate relativistic MHD in a four-dimensional spacetime and clearly show that (a) relatively weak, oblique fields (at 1/16 of the equipartition value) have only a negligible influence on the propagating jet and they are passively pushed away by the relativistically moving head; (b) oblique fields in equipartition with the ambient plasma provide more resistance and cause bending at the jet head, but the magnitude of this deflection and the associated backflow are small compared to those identified by previous studies. The new results are understood as follows: Relativistic simulations have consistently shown that these jets are effectively heavy and so they do not suffer substantial momentum losses and are not decelerated as efficiently as their nonrelativistic counterparts. In addition, the ambient magnetic field, however strong, can be pushed aside with relative ease by the beam, provided that the degrees of freedom associated with all three spatial dimensions are followed self-consistently during the simulations. The effect is analogous to pushing Japanese “noren” or vertical Venetian blinds out of the way while the slats are allowed to bend and twist in 3-D space. Applied to relativistic extragalactic jets from blazars, the new results are encouraging since superluminal outflows exhibit bending near their sources and their environments are profoundly magnetized – but observations do not provide support for irregular kinematics such as large-scale vortical motions and pronounced reverse flows near the points of origin.  相似文献

We review evidence for the existence of the Galaxy's (Milky Way's) magnetic field and the evidence for an intergalactic magnetic field permeating an ionized inter-galactic medium. The magnetohydrodynamics of such an inter-galactic medium during the post-recombination expansion and the effects of MHD on the formation of galaxies are then considered: isotropic cosmologies, the interaction of magnetic fields with isotropic backgrounds, detailed MHD perturbation computations, and an analysis of related MHD galaxyformation studies.  相似文献

In spite of the large number of global three-dimensional (3-D) magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of accretion disks and astrophysical jets, which have been developed since 2000, the launching mechanisms of jets is somewhat controversial. Previous studies of jets have concentrated on the effect of the large-scale magnetic fields permeating accretion disks. However, the existence of such global magnetic fields is not evident in various astrophysical objects, and their origin is not well understood. Thus, we study the effect of small-scale magnetic fields confined within the accretion disk. We review our recent findings on the formation of jets in dynamo-active accretion disks by using 3-D MHD simulations. In our simulations, we found the emergence of accumulated azimuthal magnetic fields from the inner region of the disk (the so-called magnetic tower) and also the formation of a jet accelerated by the magnetic pressure of the tower. Our results indicate that the magnetic tower jet is one of the most promising mechanisms for launching jets from the magnetized accretion disk in various astrophysical objects. We will discuss the formation of cosmic jets in the context of the magnetic tower model.  相似文献

Poynting-flux driven outflows from magnetized rotators are a plausible explanation for gamma-ray burst engines. We suggest a new possibility for how such outflows might transfer energy into radiating particles. We argue that, in a region near the rotation axis, the Poynting flux drives non-linearly unstable large-amplitude electromagnetic waves (LAEMW) that 'break' at radii     where the MHD approximation becomes inapplicable. In the 'foaming' (relativistically reconnecting) regions formed during the wave breaks, the random electric fields stochastically accelerate particles to ultrarelativistic energies which then radiate in turbulent electromagnetic fields. The typical energy of the emitted photons is a fraction of the fundamental Compton energy     with     plus additional boosting due to the bulk motion of the medium. The emission properties are similar to synchrotron radiation, with a typical cooling time ∼10−3 s. During the wave break, the plasma is also bulk accelerated in the outward radial direction and at larger radii can produce afterglows due to interactions with the external medium. The near equipartition fields required by afterglow models may be due to magnetic field regeneration in the outflowing plasma (similar to field generation by LAEMW in laser–plasma interactions) and mixing with the upstream plasma.  相似文献

Radio galaxies are known to inflate lobes of hot relativistic plasmas into the intergalactic medium. Here we present hydrodynamical and magnetohydrodynamical simulations of these hot plasma bubbles in FR II objects. We focus on the later stages of their evolution after the jet has died down and after the bow shock that surrounded the lobes at earlier stages has vanished. We investigate the evolution of the plasma bubbles as they become subject to Rayleigh–Taylor instabilities. From our simulations we calculate the radio and X-ray emissivities of the bubbles and discuss their appearance in observations. Finally, we investigate the influence of large-scale magnetic fields on the evolution of the bubbles. The issues of re-acceleration and diffusion of relativistic particles are briefly discussed.  相似文献

Observations and numerical magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations indicate the existence of outflows and ordered large-scale magnetic fields in the inner region of hot accretion flows. In this paper, we present the self-similar solutions for advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs) with outflows and ordered magnetic fields. Stimulated by numerical simulations, we assume that the magnetic field has a strong toroidal component and a vertical component in addition to a stochastic component. We obtain the self-similar solutions to the equations describing the magnetized ADAFs, taking into account the dynamical effects of the outflow. We compare the results with the canonical ADAFs and find that the dynamical properties of ADAFs such as radial velocity, angular velocity and temperature can be significantly changed in the presence of ordered magnetic fields and outflows. The stronger the magnetic field is, the lower the temperature of the accretion flow will be and the faster the flow rotates. The relevance to observations is briefly discussed.  相似文献

A mechanism is proposed for the formation of collinated beams in radio galaxies. Collimated flows are considered to be non-thermally driven by high energy particles and magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) waves. The galactic nucleus is regarded as being surrounded by a cool gas. The cool gas accretes onto the nucleus, and then the high energy particles are completely locked to the MHD waves. When a quasi-radial magnetic field is embedded in the accretion flow, the resulting MHD wave packets are collimated into the direction of the symmetry axis of the galactic nuclear disc. The fluid around the nucleus is considered to be accelerated and heated by these MHD waves. The fluid beam is ejected along the symmetry axis.Paper presented at the IAU Third Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting, held in Kyoto, Japan, between 30 September–6 October, 1984.  相似文献

We generalize the hot relativistic MHD wind analysis to include the anisotropy of the pressure created in the pulsar wind by the strong magnetic field. Even with anisotropy the relativistic MHD equations integrate. In a very intense magnetic field, the motion of relativistic particles becomes rapidly one-dimensional in the direction of the field due to the very important radiative losses. Consequently, their distribution function becomes also one-dimensional and the component of the pressure, in the direction perpendicular to the magnetic field, decrease. In the limitP ?0,P ≠0 we obtain a solution for the fluid flow which, starting at the neutron star surface, reaches smoothly infinity.  相似文献

We solve the nonlinear problem of the dynamics of a steady-state, spherically symmetric stellar wind by taking into account particle acceleration to relativistic energies near the shock front. The particles are assumed to be accelerated through the Fermi mechanism, interacting with stellar-wind turbulence and crossing many times the shock front that separates the supersonic and subsonic stellar-wind regions. We take into account the influence of the accelerated particles on hydrodynamic plasma-flow parameters. Our method allows all hydrodynamic parameters of the shock front and plasma in the supersonic region to be determined in a self-consistent way and the accelerated-particle energy spectrum to be calculated. Our numerical and analytic calculations show that the plasma compression ratio at the shock front increases compared to the case where there are no relativistic particles and that the velocity profile in the supersonic region acquires a characteristic kink. The shape of the energy spectrum for the accelerated particles and their pressure near the front are essentially determined by the presumed dependence of the diffusion coefficient on particle energy, which, in turn, depends on the scale distribution of turbulent pulsations and other stellar-wind inhomogeneities.  相似文献

A mechanism is proposed for the formation of collimated beams in radio galaxies. The collimated flows which are non-thermally driven by high energy particles and magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) waves are presented. The galactic nucleus surrounded by a cool gas is investigated. The cool gas accretes onto the nucleus and the accretion matter can confine the wave zone around the nucleus in which the high energy particles are completely locked to the MHD waves. When a quasi-radial magnetic field is embedded in the accretion flow, the MHD wave packets are collimated into the direction of symmetry axis of the galactic nuclear disc. The fluid around the nucleus is considered to be accelerated and heated by the MHD waves and ejected along the axis.A complete set of hydrodynamic equations which contain the energy transfers of high energy particles and MHD waves is presented. One-dimensional flows which are in pressure equilibrium with the surrounding accretion matter are calculated. When the energy density of the MHD waves is higher than that of the thermal energy, the fluid flow is strongly collimated in a narrow beam. When the MHD waves are strongly damped by the resistivity of the fluid at the great distance from the galactic centre, the collimated beam broadly reexpands. On the basis of the collimated beams driven by high energy particles, the radio morphology of the double radio sources is discussed.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper is to use quasi-periodic oscillations in hard X-rays (HXRs) of solar flares as a diagnostic tool for the investigation of impulsive electron acceleration. We have selected a number of flares which showed quasi-periodic oscillations in hard X-rays and their loop-top sources could be easily recognized in HXR images. We have considered MHD standing waves to explain the observed HXR oscillations. We interpret these HXR oscillations as being due to oscillations of magnetic traps within cusp-like magnetic structures. This is confirmed by the good correlation between periods of the oscillations and the sizes of the loop-top sources. We argue that a model of oscillating magnetic traps is adequate to explain the observations. During the compressions of a trap, particles are accelerated, but during its expansions plasma, coming from chromospheric evaporation, fills the trap, which explains the large number of electrons being accelerated during a sequence of strong pulses. The advantage of our model of oscillating magnetic traps is that it can explain both the pulses of electron acceleration and quasi-periodicity of their distribution in time.  相似文献

The theory that magnetic fields are instrumental in the formation and propagation of jets in active galactic nuclei dates back four decades. Despite a recent growing consensus on this notion stemming from the results of numerical simulations of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flows near black holes, the precise dynamical role of magnetic fields in observed parsec and kiloparsec jets remains uncertain. Some of the unanswered fundamental questions about extragalactic jets include the location where the flow becomes relativistic and where acceleration and collimation terminate, as well as the specifics of how the flow interacts with the ISM. Such observed properties as superluminal motions and wiggled structures based on numerical simulations to constitute the foundation of an MHD paradigm for extragalactic jets. We particularly focus our attention to the M87 jet, which is one of the best candidates to investigate relativistic outflows in extragalactic system.  相似文献

In the present work we aim to study particle acceleration in twisted coronal loops. For this purpose, an MHD model of magnetic reconnection in a linearly unstable twisted magnetic fluxtube is considered. Further, the electric and magnetic fields obtained in the MHD simulations are used to calculate proton and electron trajectories in the guiding-centre approximation. It is shown that particle acceleration in such a model is distributed rather uniformly along the coronal loop and the high-energy population remains generally neutral. It also follows from the model that the horizontal cross-section of the volume occupied by high-energy particles near the loop footpoints increases with time, which can be used as an observational proxy.  相似文献
