Stability regions are identified in the neighborhood of periodic orbits. Features of motion in these regions are investigated. The structure of stability regions in the neighborhood of the Schubart, Moore, and Broucke orbits, the S-orbit, and the Ducati orbit is studied. The following features of motion are identified near these periodic orbits: libration, precession, symmetrization, centralization, bounce (a transition between types of trajectories), ejections, etc.  相似文献

The one-dimensional Newtonian three-body problem is known to have stable (quasi-)periodic orbits when the masses are equal. The existence and size of the stable region is discussed here in the case where the three masses are arbitrary. We consider only the stability of the periodic (generalized) Schubart's (1956) orbit. If this orbit is linearly stable it is almost always surrounded by a region of stable quasi-periodic orbits and the size and shape of this stable region depends on the masses. The three-dimensional linear stability of the periodic orbits is also determined. Final results show that the region of stability has a complicated shape and some of the stable regions in the mass-plane are quite narrow. The non-linear three-dimensional stability is studied independently by extensive numerical integrations and the results are found to be in agreement with the linear stability analysis. The boundaries of stable region in the mass-plane are given in terms of polynomial approximations. The results are compared with a similar work by Héenon (1977).We thank the referee for pointing out this reference to us.  相似文献

Numerical simulations of the one-dimensional Newtonian four-body problem have been conducted for the special case in which the bodies are distributed symmetrically about the centre of mass. Simulations show a great similarity between this problem and the one-dimensional Newtonian three-body problem. As in that problem the orbits can be divided into three different categories which form well-defined regions on a Poincaré section: there is a region of quasiperiodic orbits about a Schubart-like periodic orbit, there is a region of fast-scattering encounters and in between these two regions there is a chaotic scattering region. The Schubart-like periodic orbit's stability to perturbation is studied. It is apparently stable in one-dimension but is unstable in three-dimensions.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

We study the change of phase space structure of the rectilinear three-body problem when the mass combination is changed. Generally, periodic orbits bifurcate from the stable Schubart periodic orbit and move radially outward. Among these periodic orbits there are dominant periodic orbits having rotation number (n − 2)/n with n ≥ 3. We find that the number of dominant periodic orbits is two when n is odd and four when n is even. Dominant periodic orbits have large stable regions in and out of the stability region of the Schubart orbit (Schubart region), and so they determine the size of the Schubart region and influence the structure of the Poincaré section out of the Schubart region. Indeed, with the movement of the dominant periodic orbits, part of complicated structure of the Poincaré section follows these orbits. We find stable periodic orbits which do not bifurcate from the Schubart orbit.  相似文献

Various sets of periodic solutions of a 3-D Hamiltonian system crossing perpendicularly thez=0 plane are presented. These sets form a main multi-spiral pattern and two secondary ones which have three focal points. The main pattern is inside a stochastic region that surrounds a simple complex unstable periodic orbit, while the two secondary patterns are parts of a stochastic sea. Through these regions the stochastic region communicates with the stochastic sea.  相似文献

We investigate the neighborhood of the periodic eight-like orbit found by Moore (1993) and Chenciner and Montgomery (2000). One-, two-, and three-dimensional scans in body coordinates, velocities, and masses were constructed. We found the regions of initial conditions in which the maximum mutual separation did not exceed 5 distance units during 2000 time units (about 300 periods of the initial solution). Larger deviations from the periodic solution lead to distant body ejections and escapes. The identified regions of finite motions are complex in structure. In some sections, these are simple-connected manifolds, while in other sections, stability zones alternate with escape zones. We estimated the fractal dimensions of the stability regions in three-dimensional scans: it typically ranges from 2 to 3. In some cases, we found transitions between motions along the figure of eight in its neighborhood and motions in the vicinity of a periodic Broucke orbit in the isosceles three-body problem.  相似文献

We investigate the stability of the periodic motion of a satellite, a rigid body, relative to the center of mass in a central Newtonian gravitational field in an elliptical orbit. The orbital eccentricity is assumed to be low. In a circular orbit, this periodic motion transforms into the well-known motion called hyperboloidal precession (the symmetry axis of the satellite occupies a fixed position in the plane perpendicular to the radius vector of the center of mass relative to the attractive center and describes a hyperboloidal surface in absolute space, with the satellite rotating around the symmetry axis at a constant angular velocity). We consider the case where the parameters of the problem are close to their values at which a multiple parametric resonance takes place (the frequencies of the small oscillations of the satellite’s symmetry axis are related by several second-order resonance relations). We have found the instability and stability regions in the first (linear) approximation at low eccentricities.  相似文献

The rectilinear equal-mass and unequal-mass three-body problems are considered. The first part of the paper is a review that covers the following items: regularization of the equations of motion, integrable cases, triple collisions and their vicinities, escapes, periodic orbits and their stability, chaos and regularity of motions. The second part contains the results of our numerical simulations in this problem. A classification of orbits in correspondence with the following evolution scenarios is suggested: ejections, escapes, conditional escapes (long ejections), periodic orbits, quasi-stable long-lived systems in the vicinity of stable periodic orbits, and triple collisions. Homothetic solutions ending by triple collisions and their dependence on initial parameters are found. We study how the ejection length changes in response to the variation of the triple approach parameters. Regions of initial conditions are outlined in which escapes occur after a definite number of triple approaches or a definite time. In the vicinity of a stable Schubart periodic orbit, we reveal a region of initial parameters that corresponds to trajectories with finite motions. The regular and chaotic structure of the manifold of orbits is mostly defined by this periodic orbit. We have studied the phase space structure via Poincaré sections. Using these sections and symbolic dynamics, we study the fine structure of the region of initial conditions, in particular the chaotic scattering region.  相似文献

The second species periodic solutions of the restricted three body problem are investigated in the limiting case of μ=0. These orbits, called consecutive collision orbits by Hénon and generating orbits by Perko, form an infinite number of continuous one-parameter families and are the true limit, for μ→0, of second species periodic solutions for μ>0. By combining a periodicity condition with an analytic relation, for criticality, isolated members of several families are obtained which possess the unique property that the stability indexk jumps from ±∞ to ?∞ at that particular orbit. These orbits are of great interest since, for small μ>0, ‘neighboring’ orbits will then have a finite (but small) region of stability.  相似文献

The stability of attitude equilibria relative to gravitational torques for a rigid satellite in a circular orbit has been divided into three inertia regions, the Lagrange region of assured Liapunov stability, the Beletskii-Delp region which is often described as stabilized due to gyroscopic coupling, and an assured instability region. The generalization of these regions to the case of dual-spin or gyrostat satellites whose internal spin momentum is along a principal axis is treated here. In this paper three results on the linearized mapping associated with the plane three body problem near a periodic orbit are established. It is first shown that linear stability of such an orbit is independent of initial position on the orbit and of coordinate system. Second, the relation of Hénon connecting the rates of change of rotation angle and period on an isoenergetic family of periodic orbits is proved, together with a similar relation for families of orbits closing exactly in a rotating coordinate system. Finally, a condition for a critical orbit is given which is applicable to any family of periodic orbits.  相似文献

We study the evolution of families of periodic orbits of simple 3-dimensional models representing the central parts of deformed galaxies. In some cases the evolution is non-unique, i.e. if we follow a closed path in the parameter space we do not return with the same periodic orbit. This happens when the path surrounds a critical point. We found that critical points are generated at particular collisions of bifurcations in limiting cases when the 3-D system is separated into a 2-D system and an independent oscillation along the third axis. The regions of stability and instability of some families of periodic orbits change in remarkable ways near the various collisions of bifurcations and around the critical points.  相似文献

Prior to the detection of its outermost Uranus-mass object, it had been suggested that GJ 876 could host an Earth-sized planet in a 15-day orbit. Observation, however, did not support this idea, but instead revealed evidence for the existence of a larger body in a ~125-day orbit, near a three-body resonance with the two giant planets of this system. In this paper, we present a detailed analysis of the dynamics of the four-planet system of GJ 876, and examine the possibility of the existence of other planetary objects interior to its outermost body. We have developed a numerical scheme that enables us to search the orbital parameter-space very effectively and, in a short time, identify regions where an object may be stable. We present details of this integration method and discuss its application to the GJ 876 four-planet system. The results of our initial analysis suggested possible stable orbits at regions exterior to the orbit of the outermost planet and also indicated that an island of stability may exist in and around the 15-day orbit. However, examining the long-term stability of an object in that region by direct integration revealed that the 15-day orbit becomes unstable and that the system of GJ 876 is most likely dynamically full. We present the results of our study and discuss their implications for the formation and final orbital architecture of this system.  相似文献

Several families of planar planetary-type periodic orbits in the general three-body problem, in a rotating frame of reference, for the Sun-Jupiter-Saturn mass-ratio are found and their stability is studied. It is found that the configuration in which the orbit of the smaller planet is inside the orbit of the larger planet is, in general, more stable.We also develop a method to study the stability of a planar periodic motion with respect to vertical perturbations. Planetary periodic orbits with the orbits of the two planets not close to each other are found to be vertically stable. There are several periodic orbits that are stable in the plane but vertically unstable and vice versa. It is also shown that a vertical critical orbit in the plane can generate a monoparametric family of three-dimensional periodic orbits.  相似文献

A systematic numerical exploration of the families of asymmetric periodic orbits of the restricted three-body problem when a) the primary bodies are equal and b) for the Earth-Moon mass ratio, is presented. Decades families of asymmetric periodic solutions were found and three of the simplest ones, in the first case, and ten of the second one are illustrated. All of these families consist of periodic orbits which are asymmetric with respect to x-axis while are simple symmetric periodic orbits with respect to y-axis (i.e. the orbit has only one perpendicular intersection at half period with y-axis). Many asymmetric periodic orbits, members of these families, are calculated and plotted. We studied the stability of all the asymmetric periodic orbits we found. These families consist, mainly, of unstable periodic solutions but there exist very small, with respect to x, intervals where these families have stable periodic orbits. We also found, using appropriate Poincaré surface of sections, that a relatively large region of phase space extended around all these stable asymmetric periodic orbits shows chaotic motion.  相似文献

Numerical orbit integrations have been conducted to characterize the types of trajectories in the one-dimensional Newtonian three-body problem with equal masses and negative energy. Essentially three different types of motions were found to exist. They may be classified according to the duration of the bound three-body state. There are zero-lifetime predictable trajectories, finite lifetime apparently chaotic orbits, and infinite lifetime quasi-periodic motions. The quasi-periodic orbits are confined to the neighbourhood of Schubart's stable periodic orbit. For all other trajectories the final state is of the type binary + single particle in both directions of time. The boundaries of the different orbit-type regions seem to be sharp. We present statistical results for the binding energies and for the duration of the bound three-body state. Properties of individual orbits are also summarized in the form of various graphical maps in a two-dimensional grid of parameters defining the orbit. Supported by the Academy of Finland.  相似文献

The stability of co-orbital motions is investigated in such exoplanetary systems, where the only known giant planet either moves fully in the habitable zone, or leaves it for some part of its orbit. If the regions around the triangular Lagrangian points are stable, they are possible places for smaller Trojan-like planets. We have determined the nonlinear stability regions around the Lagrangian point L4 of nine exoplanetary systems in the model of the elliptic restricted three-body problem by using the method of the relative Lyapunov indicators. According to our results, all systems could possess small Trojan-like planets. Several features of the stability regions are also discussed. Finally, the size of the stability region around L4 in the elliptic restricted three-body problem is determined as a function of the mass parameter and eccentricity.  相似文献
