About one year ago, it was speculated that decaying or annihilating light dark matter (LDM) particles could explain the flux and extension of the 511-keV line emission in the Galactic Centre. Here, we present a thorough comparison between theoretical expectations of the Galactic positron distribution within the LDM scenario and observational data from INTEGRAL /SPI. Unlike previous analyses, there is now enough statistical evidence to put tight constraints on the shape of the dark matter (DM) halo of our Galaxy, if the Galactic positrons originate from DM. For annihilating candidates, the best fit to the observed 511-keV emission is provided by a radial density profile with inner logarithmic slope γ= 1.03 ± 0.04 . In contrast, decaying DM requires a much steeper density profile, γ > 1.5 , rather disfavoured by both observations and numerical simulations. Within the annihilating LDM scenario, a velocity-independent cross-section would be consistent with the observational data while a cross-section purely proportional to v 2 can be rejected at a high confidence level. Assuming the most simplistic model where the Galactic positrons are produced as primaries, we show that the LDM candidate should be a scalar rather than a spin-1/2 particle and obtain a very stringent constraint on the value of the positron production cross-section to explain the 511-keV emission. One consequence is that the value of the fine structure constant α should differ from that recommended in the CODATA (Committee on Data for Science and Technology). This is a very strong test for the LDM scenario and an additional motivation in favour of experiments measuring α directly. Our results finally indicate that an accurate measurement of the shape of the dark halo profile could have a tremendous impact on the determination of the origin of the 511-keV line and vice versa. 相似文献

One of the predictions of the standard cold dark matter model is that dark haloes have centrally divergent density profiles. An extensive body of rotation curve observations of dwarf and low surface brightness galaxies shows the dark haloes of those systems to be characterized by soft constant-density central cores. Several physical processes have been proposed to produce soft cores in dark haloes, each one with different scaling properties. With the aim of discriminating among them we have examined the rotation curves of dark-matter-dominated dwarf and low surface brightness galaxies and the inner mass profiles of two clusters of galaxies lacking a central cD galaxy and with evidence of soft cores in the centre. The core radii and central densities of these haloes scale in a well-defined manner with the depth of their potential wells, as measured through the maximum circular velocity. As a result of our analysis we identify self-interacting cold dark matter as a viable solution to the core problem, where a non-singular isothermal core is formed in the halo centre surrounded by a Navarro, Frenk & White profile in the outer parts. We show that this particular physical situation predicts core radii in agreement with observations. Furthermore, using the observed scalings, we derive an expression for the minimum cross-section ( σ ) which has an explicit dependence with the halo dispersion velocity ( v ). If m x is the mass of the dark matter particle: σ m x ≈4×10−25 (100 km s−1 v −1 ) cm2 GeV−1 . 相似文献

Ultracompact dark matter minihalos(UCMHs) would be formed during the early universe if there were large density perturbations. If dark matter can decay into particles described by the standard model, such as neutrinos, these objects would become potential astrophysical sources of emission which could be detected by instruments such as IceCube. In this paper,we investigate neutrino signals from nearby UCMHs due to gravitino dark matter decay and compare these signals with the background neutrino flux which is mainly from the atmosphere to obtain constraints on the abundance of UCMHs. 相似文献

We derive constraints on the parameters of the radiatively decaying dark matter (DM) particle, using the XMM–Newton EPIC spectra of the Andromeda galaxy (M31). Using the observations of the outer (5–13 arcmin) parts of M31, we improve the existing constraints. For the case of sterile neutrino DM, combining our constraints with the latest computation of abundances of sterile neutrinos in the Dodelson–Widrow (DW) scenario, we obtain the lower mass limit m s < 4 keV , which is stronger than the previous one m s < 6 keV , obtained recently by Asaka, Laine & Shaposhnikov. Comparing this limit with the most recent results on Lyman α forest analysis of Viel et al. ( m s > 5.6 keV ), we argue that the scenario in which all the DM is produced via the DW mechanism is ruled out. We discuss, however, other production mechanisms and note that the sterile neutrino remains a viable candidate for DM, either warm or cold. 相似文献

Rapid accretion of matter takes place while the solar system resides in a dark cloud of high density. The mass thus accreted may be comparable to the mass of the planetary system. Since the elemental abundances in a dark cloud are considered to be heterogeneous due to matter processed inside stars and then ejected, the continual accretion causes elemental heterogeneities in the solar system.Paper dedicated to Professor Hannes Alfvén on the occasion of his 70th birthday, 30 May 1978. 相似文献

DAMA and CoGeNT annual modulation data and, CDMS-II, EDELWEISS-II, CRESST excesses of events over the expected background are reanalyzed in terms of a dark matter particle signal considering the case of a rotating halo. It is found that the configurations of very high mass dark matter particles in a corotating cold flux are favored by data. A similar high-mass/low-velocity solution could be of interest in the light of the positron/electron excess measured by PAMELA and Fermi LAT in cosmic rays. 相似文献

Mirror matter is an entirely new form of matter predicted to exist if mirror symmetry is a fundamental symmetry of nature. Mirror matter has the right broad properties to explain the inferred dark matter of the Universe and might also be responsible for a variety of other puzzles in particle physics, astrophysics, meteoritics and planetary science. It is known that mirror matter can interact with ordinary matter non-gravitationally via photon-mirror photon kinetic mixing. The strength of this possibly fundamental interaction depends on the (theoretically) free parameter ε. We consider various proposed manifestations of mirror matter in our solar system examining in particular how the physics changes for different possible values of ε. We find new evidence for mirror matter in the solar system coming from the observed sharp reduction in crater rates (for craters less than about 100 m in diameter) on the asteroid 433 Eros. We also re-examine various existing ideas including the mirror matter explanation for the anomalous meteorite events, anomalous slow-down of Pioneer spacecraft etc. 相似文献

Chemical and isotopic anomalies in meteorites may be understandable in terms of the chemical fractionation routinely expected in the interstellar medium (ISM). Dust of distinct composition is idealized as being of three types: (1) thermal supernova condensates (SUNOCONS), (2) thermal condensation during other stellar mass-loss processes (STARDUST), and (3) nonthermal sticking processes in cold nebulae (NEBCONS). Great depletions in ISM of Ca Al Ti are due to SUNOCONS, although STARDUST is about twice as abundant. An abundance table of interstellar SUNOCONS is presented. Parent bodies in the solar system are accumulated directly from the ISM. No hot solar condensation sequence is assumed. Only relatively volatile elements within NEBOCONS are vaporized in the warm solar accretion disk. Variations in the relative amounts of these components during accumulation processes plus subsequent solid chemistry may have produced such chemical anomalies as the meteoritic fractionation patterns and the Ca Al-rich inclusions. Isotopic anomalies result from four processes that selectively site specific isotopes: (1) extinct radioactivities, (2) distinct supernova shells, (3) gas-dust separation, and (4) gas-dust age difference. Planetary accumulation will have been fingerprinted by the chemical state of the ISM if this picture is correct.Paper presented at the Conference on Protostars and Planets, held at the Planetary Science Institute, University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, between January 3 and 7, 1978. 相似文献

Using eight dark matter haloes extracted from fully self-consistent cosmological N -body simulations, we perform microlensing experiments. A hypothetical observer is placed at a distance of 8.5 kpc from the centre of the halo measuring optical depths, event durations and event rates towards the direction of the Large Magellanic Cloud. We simulate 1600 microlensing experiments for each halo. Assuming that the whole halo consists of massive astronomical compact halo objects (MACHOs), f = 1.0 , and a single MACHO mass is m M = 1.0 M⊙ , the simulations yield mean values of τ= 4.7+5.0 −2.2 × 10−7 and Γ= 1.6+1.3 −0.6 × 10−6 events star−1 yr−1 . We find that triaxiality and substructure can have major effects on the measured values so that τ and Γ values of up to three times the mean can be found. If we fit our values of τ and Γ to the MACHO collaboration observations, we find f = 0.23+0.15 −0.13 and m M = 0.44+0.24 −0.16 . Five out of the eight haloes under investigation produce f and m M values mainly concentrated within these bounds. 相似文献

A model of the gravitationally evolved dark matter distribution, in the Eulerian space, is developed. It is a simple extension of the excursion set model that is commonly used to estimate the mass function of collapsed dark matter haloes. In addition to describing the evolution of the Eulerian space distribution of the haloes, the model allows one to describe the evolution of the dark matter itself. It can also be used to describe density profiles, on scales larger than the virial radius of these haloes, and to quantify the way in which matter flows in and out of Eulerian cells. When the initial Lagrangian space distribution is white noise Gaussian, the model suggests that the Inverse Gaussian distribution should provide a reasonably good approximation to the evolved Eulerian density field, in agreement with numerical simulations. Application of this model to clustering from more general Gaussian initial conditions is discussed at the end. 相似文献

A sample of 11 thousand galaxies with radial velocities V LG < 3500 km/s is used to study the features of the local distribution of luminous (stellar) and dark matter within a sphere of radius of around 50 Mpc around us. The average density of matter in this volume, ?? m,loc = 0.08 ± 0.02, turns out to be much lower than the global cosmic density ?? m,glob = 0.28 ± 0.03. We discuss three possible explanations of this paradox: 1) galaxy groups and clusters are surrounded by extended dark halos, the major part of the mass of which is located outside their virial radii; 2) the considered local volume of the Universe is not representative, being situated inside a giant void; and 3) the bulk of matter in the Universe is not related to clusters and groups, but is rather distributed between them in the form of massive dark clumps. Some arguments in favor of the latter assumption are presented. Besides the two well-known inconsistencies of modern cosmological models with the observational data: the problem of missing satellites of normal galaxies and the problem of missing baryons, there arises another one??the issue of missing dark matter. 相似文献

Drexler dark matter is an alternate approach to dark matter that assumes that highly relativistic protons trapped in the halo
of the galaxies could account for the missing mass. We look at various energetics involved in such a scenario such as the
energy required to produce such particles and the corresponding lifetimes. Also we look at the energy losses from synchrotron
and inverse Compton scattering and their signatures. The Coulomb repulsive instability due to the excess charge around the
galaxies is also calculated. The above results lead us to conclude that such a model for DM is unfeasible. 相似文献

Astrophysical limits on massive dark matter 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Annihilations of weakly interacting dark matter particles provide an important signature for the possibility of indirect detection of dark matter in galaxy haloes. These self-annihilations can be greatly enhanced in the vicinity of a massive black hole. We show that the massive black hole present at the centre of our galaxy accretes dark matter particles, creating a region of very high particle density. Consequently the annihilation rate is considerably increased, with a large number of e+ e− pairs being produced either directly or by successive decays of mesons. We evaluate the synchrotron emission (and self-absorption) associated with the propagation of these particles through the galactic magnetic field, and are able to constrain the allowed values of masses and cross sections of dark matter particles. 相似文献

Dark matter is obtained from a scalar field coupled conformally to gravitation, the scalar being a relict of Dirac's gauge function. This conformally coupled dark matter includes a gas of very light (m 2.25 × 10–34
eV) neutral bosons having spin 0, as well as a time-dependent global scalar field, both pervading all of the cosmic space. The time-development of this dark matter in the expanding F-R-W universe is investigated, and an acceptable cosmological behaviour is obtained. 相似文献

Here Rydberg matter is proposed as a candidate for the missing dark matter or dark baryonic matter in the Universe. Spectroscopic and other experimental studies give valuable information on the properties of Rydberg matter, especially its very weak interaction with light caused by the very small overlap with low states, and because of the necessary two-electron transitions even for disturbed matter. Recently, the unidentified infrared (UIR) bands have been shown to agree well with calculations and experiments on Rydberg matter. This is the reason for the present, somewhat speculative, proposal that dark matter has, at least partially, the form of Rydberg matter. The UIR bands have also been observed directly in emission from Rydberg matter in the laboratory. The unique space-filling properties of Rydberg matter are described: a hydrogen atom in this matter occupies a volume 5×1012 times larger than in its ground state or in a hydrogen molecule. 相似文献

We investigate the figure rotation of dark matter haloes identified in Λ cold dark matter (CDM) simulations. We find that when strict criteria are used to select suitable haloes for study, five of the 222 haloes identified in our z = 0 simulation output undergo coherent figure rotation over a 5 h −1 Gyr period. We discuss the effects of varying the selection criteria and find that pattern speeds for a much larger fraction of the haloes can be measured when the criteria are relaxed. Pattern speeds measured over a 1 h −1 Gyr period follow a lognormal distribution, centred at Ωp = 0.2 h rad Gyr−1 with a maximum value of 0.94 h rad Gyr−1 . Over a 5 h −1 Gyr period, the average pattern speed of a halo is about 0.1 h rad Gyr−1 and the largest pattern speed found is 0.24 h rad Gyr−1 . Less than half of the selected haloes showed alignment between their figure rotation axis and minor axis, the exact fraction being somewhat dependent on how one defines a halo. While the pattern speeds observed are lower than those generally thought capable of causing spiral structure, we note that coherent figure rotation is found over very long periods and argue that further simulations would be required before strong conclusions about spiral structure in all galaxies could be drawn. We find no correlation between halo properties such as total mass and the pattern speed. 相似文献
