The subsurface water beneath the summer mixed layer is important to air–sea carbon flux, while its geochemical properties are not frequently observed. A data assimilation method is applied to determine the geochemical fields in the subsurface (i.e., 100 m) from the data collected at the surface in the North Pacific. This method, in the family of the inverse methods, is constructed on a one-dimensional bulk mixed layer model. In addition to temperature and salinity, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and alkalinity are also considered as model variables, whereas biological productivity is omitted. The geochemical properties increase from the fall to the winter, which is the period simulated by the model, as the mixed layer develops and entrains subsurface water rich in DIC and alkalinity. Consequently, the geochemical fields in the mixed layer must have extremely sharp north–south gradients in the western region of the North Pacific and can be reproduced only by enhancing the north–south gradients in the subsurface. The fields reconstructed by the data assimilation provide useful information about the biogeochemical cycles. It is suggested that the large difference in DIC between the surface and the subsurface in the northwestern region is produced by transporting DIC from the mixed layer to the subsurface in the summer, implying extremely high biological productivity. To study the long-term variability of the thermohaline and dynamic characteristics of the Black Sea, we use three versions
of climatic fields, namely, the fields reconstructed in the model according to the old (1903–1982) and new (1903–2003) hydrological
climatic data arrays of temperature and salinity and according to the data of satellite altimetry. The analysis of the altimetry-based
climatic fields confirms the distinctions (established earlier according to the old and new data arrays) in the seasonal variability
of the integral characteristics of temperature and salinity and in the structures of hydrophysical fields in the sea. It is
shown that, in the winter-spring season, the thermohaline fields reconstructed according to the new and altimetry data arrays
are characterized by a small elevation of the halocline (pycnocline) and the upper boundary of the cold intermediate layer.
In all seasons, the altimetry-based surface geostrophic currents contain numerous mesoscale eddies with different signs of
rotation. Moreover, in all seasons, the Rim Current reconstructed according to the altimetry data is characterized by a narrower
jet almost along the entire its length. This jet is especially intense near the coasts of West Anatolia.

A novel form of correlation window employed to calculate the spectral density of a random process using a Fourier transform of the correlation function is proposed. It is shown that, concerning its metrologic characteristics, the value of the spectral density obtained does not yield the best autoregression estimates. The ocean acoustic tomographic (OAT) approach to sound speed field estimation is generalized to include a variety of sources of information of interest such as an oceanographic model of the sound speed field, direct local sound speed measurements, and a full field acoustic propagation model as well as measurements. The inverse problem is presented as a four-dimensional field estimation problem using a variational approach commonly used in oceanographic data assimilation. The current OAT approach is shown to be a special case of the general framework. The matched-field tomography (MFT) approach is also discussed within this context. A simple implementation of this novel approach is then investigated in the absence of a suitable oceanographic model, and acoustic propagation is accounted for using a standard parabolic equation model. The inverse equations derived are validated numerically through a simple inversion example, and some issues on environmental mismatch and computations are discussed. 南大西洋在地理上连接着北大西洋、南大洋和印度洋。通过环流输运或海表温度变化,该海域的上层海洋热含量(OHC)的变化可能对与之相连的各个洋盆间的再分布产生影响。本文基于1958—2015年的ORAS4全球海洋再分析数据和中国科学院大气物理研究所的格点海温数据集,利用经验正交函数(EOF)分析、相关分析等方法,分析了南大西洋上层海洋不同积分深度(0~100 m,0~300 m,0~500 m,0~700 m)OHC的时空变化特征。EOF第一模态显示,过去60 a来,南大西洋上层700 m存在一个洋盆尺度的变暖趋势,而且随着热含量积分深度的增加,第一模态所解释的方差占比也明显增加。OHC变化EOF第一模态与以年际变化为主的NAO和ENSO指数相关性很低,而与代表较长时间变率的AMO和PDO指数却有较好相关性,且与AMO的相关性随着积分深度的增加而提高。超前滞后相关分析显示AMO滞后南大西洋OHC变化9~12 a,显示南大西洋OHC变化对北大西洋气候变化的潜在影响。南大西洋OHC变化EOF第一模态与PDO之间相关性随着积分深度的增加而降低,显示PDO对OHC的影响主要在表层。另外发现整个洋盆的热含量变化与温跃层变化呈正相关,热含量的变化反映温跃层的动态波动。 相似文献

Estimation of the open-boundary inputs solving a weak constraint variational formulation for an Arctic tide model is considered as an ill-posed problem in the sense that the solution is very sensitive to the data noise and to grid size. Mathematically, spatial discretization of a cost function to be minimized and penalization of normal flow through the open boundary act as regularization of the problem. An heuristic choosing rule for the regularization parameter is applied to assess a suitable spatial resolution and the weight referred to the open boundary penalty. It is shown that these provide a better fit of the solution to a control data set compared with a finer grid, the value of the energy flux through the open boundary being in agreement with other model estimates. The M2 solution obtained is much closer to the control data than other modern solutions while the accuracy of the simulated K1 constituent is within the same error level. The tidal maps for these waves exhibit certain distinctions in comparison with other charts. 相似文献

介绍了国家气候中心(NCC)“全球海洋资料四维同化系统”(简称NCC-GODAS).该系统包含观测资料预处理系统、插值分析系统和所应用的动力模式.插值分析系统采用四维同化技术方案,在时间上设置一个4周的窗口,将此窗口之内的观测资料以一定的权重插入插值分析系统,在空间上采用三维变分方案.海洋动力模式为“九五”期间LASG研制的L30T63OGCM 1 0版本.文中考察了该系统从1982年到2003年3月在热带太平洋的部分同化分析结果,并与NCEP的再分析资料和EMC/NCEP的太平洋区域海洋资料同化系统的结果进行了对比分析.结果显示,该系统的同化结果(如SST,SSTA,Nino指数,次表层海温变化等)与NCEP的同期同化结果具有很好的一致性.同时,该系统得出的海洋同化资料气候场与海洋模式气候场相比,有显著的改进.表明该系统具有较好的同化能力,其同化结果可为海-气耦合模式进行季节和跨季节的气候预测业务提供可信的海洋初始场资料,同时还可以为相关研究提供海洋分析场. 相似文献

Models and methods of the numerical modeling of ocean hydrodynamics dating back to the pioneering works of A.S. Sarkisyan are considered, with emphasis on the formulation of problems and algorithms of mathematical modeling and the four-dimensional variational assimilation of observational data. An algorithm is proposed for studying the sensitivity of the optimal solution to observational data errors in a seasurface temperature assimilation problem in order to retrieve heat fluxes on the surface. To study how the air and sea interact with each other during El Nino/La Nina onsets, extended associate pattern analysis (EAPA) is adopted with the simple ocean data assimilation (SODA) data. The results show that as El Nino/La Nina' s parents their behaviors are quite different, there does not exist a relatively independent tropical atmosphere but does exist a relatively independent tropical Pacific Ocean because the air is heated from the bottom surface instead of the top surface and of much stronger baroclinic instability than the sea and has a very large inter-tropical convergence zone covering the most tropical Pacific Ocean. The idea that it is the wester burst and wind convergence, coming from middle latitudes directly that produce the seawater eastward movement and meridional convergence in the upper levels and result in the typical El Nino sea surface temperature warm signal is confirmed again. 相似文献

An ensemble optimal interpolation (EnOI) data assimilation method is applied in the BCC_CSM1.1 to investigate the impact of ocean data assimilations on seasonal forecasts in an idealized twin experiment framework. Pseudo-observations of sea surface temperature (SST), sea surface height (SSH), sea surface salinity (SSS), temperature and salinity (T/S) profiles were first generated in a free model run. Then, a series of sensitivity tests initialized with predefined bias were conducted for a one-year period; this involved a free run (CTR) and seven assimilation runs. These tests allowed us to check the analysis field accuracy against the “truth”. As expected, data assimilation improved all investigated quantities; the joint assimilation of all variables gave more improved results than assimilating them separately. One-year predictions initialized from the seven runs and CTR were then conducted and compared. The forecasts initialized from joint assimilation of surface data produced comparable SST root mean square errors to that from assimilation of T/S profiles, but the assimilation of T/S profiles is crucial to reduce subsurface deficiencies. The ocean surface currents in the tropics were better predicted when initial conditions produced by assimilating T/S profiles, while surface data assimilation became more important at higher latitudes, particularly near the western boundary currents. The predictions of ocean heat content and mixed layer depth are significantly improved initialized from the joint assimilation of all the variables. Finally, a central Pacific El Ni?o was well predicted from the joint assimilation of surface data, indicating the importance of joint assimilation of SST, SSH, and SSS for ENSO predictions. 相似文献

海洋观测费用高昂,设计科学高效的观测系统可以充分发挥观测的效能。本文以泰国湾高频地波雷达观测系统为例,利用数据同化方法对观测系统进行了最优布局。首先基于FVCOM海洋数值模式建立了泰国湾海域高分辨率三维斜压水动力模式,在此基础上利用一种改进的高效集合卡曼滤波同化方法对岸基高频地波雷达表层海流观测系统开展观测效能评估数值实验。通过观测区域的不同组合方式将3个区域的雷达表层海流数据同化到数值模式中,实验结果表明,岸基高频地波雷达表层海流观测系统可有效降低高分辨数值模式的海流模拟误差。但不同观测区域的组合提供的观测数据对改善海流模拟的作用存在明显差别,泰国湾现有观测系统雷达站位布设方式应进一步优化。本文最后给出了研究区域最优观测站位的布局方案,可作为下一步观测系统进行布局调整的指导。 相似文献

The paper considers the reconstruction of ocean currents from the asynchronously-compiled temperature and salinity data using three different techniques: the diagnostic method, the sequential objective analysis and the four-dimensional (4D) analysis based on dynamico-stochastic modelling. Intercomparison of the techniques is implemented on the basis of numerical model experiments carried out for the Newfoundland energetically-active area. An examle of satellite monitoring of the large-scale dynamics of the eastern sector of the tropical Atlantic Ocean in April 1990 is considered. As the satellite-derived data, a series of averaged 5-day maps of the remote data on the upper ocean temperature field obtained from satellites of the NOAA series was used. The profundity of the effect of the satellite data is estimated.
