Response of Alma-Ata neutron monitor for solar neutrons from the 15 June 1991 was studied. We considered this response as a test for various scenarios of proton acceleration during the flare. The analysis of neutron monitor is an evidence in favour of the assumption of two acts of proton acceleration at impulsive and post-impulsive phases of the flare.  相似文献

The best tool for understanding ion acceleration in solar flares is gamma-ray line emission from nuclear de-excitation, positron annihilation, and neutron capture. These techniques have not yet come close to reaching their potential due to limited counting statistics in the lines. Instruments with focusing optics and large effective areas promise real breakthroughs in understanding high-energy solar processes. I discuss what can be learned from the various lines and the instrumental requirements for future focusing observations.“Mama always told me not to look into the sights of the Sun; oh, but mama, that’s where the fun is...” [1]  相似文献

Data on X-,γ-ray, optical and radio emission from the 1991 June 15 solar flare are considered. We have calculated the spectrum of protons that producesγ-rays during the gradual phase of the flare. The primary proton spectrum can be described as a Bessel-function-type up to 0.8 GeV and a power law with the spectral index ≈3 from 0.8 up to 10 GeV or above. We have also analyzed data on energetic particles near the Earth. Their spectrum differed from that of primary protons producingγ-ray line emission. In the gradual phase of the flare additional pulses of energy release occurred and the time profiles of cm-radio emission andγ-rays in the 0.8–10 MeV energy band and above 50 MeV coincided. A continuous and simultaneous stochastic acceleration of the protons and relativistic electrons at the gradual phase of the flare is considered as a natural explanation of the data.  相似文献

A solar flare on June 15, 1973 has been observed with high spatial and temporal resolution by the S-054 grazing-incidence X-ray telescope on Skylab. Both morphological and quantitative analyses are presented. Some of the main results are: (a) the overall configuration of the flare is that of a compact region with a characteristic size of the order of 30 at the intensity peak, (b) this region appears highly structured inside with complex systems of loops which change during the event, (c) a brightening over an extended portion of the active region precedes the flare onset, (d) the impulsive phase indicated by the non-thermal radio emission is a period during which a rapid brightening occurs in loop structures, (e) the X-ray emission is centered over the neutral line of longitudinal magnetic field, and the brightest structures at the flare onset bridge the neutral line, (f) loop systems at successively increasing heights form during the decay phase, finally leading to the large loops observed in the postflare phase, (g) different parts of the flare show distinctly different light curves, and the temporal development given by full disk detectors is the result of integrating the different intensity vs time profiles. The implications of these observations for mechanisms of solar flares are discussed. In particular, the flux profiles of different regions of the flare give strong evidence for continued heating during the decay phase, and a multiplicity of flare volumes appears to be present, in all cases consisting of loops of varying lengths. On leave from Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory, Florence, Italy.  相似文献

Starting with the quasi-linear equation of the distribution function of particles in a regular electric field, a combined diffusion coefficient in the momentum space conbining the effects of the regular field and a turbulent field is obtained and a combined mechanism of acceleration by the regular and turbulent fields in the neutral sheet of solar proton flares is proposed. It is shown by calculation that conditions in solar proton flares are such that the charged particles can be effectively accelerated to tens of MeV, even ~1 GeV. It is shown that the combined acceleration by a regular electric field and ion-acoustic turbulence pumps the protons and other heavy ions into ranges of energy where they can be accelerated by Langmuir turbulence. By considering the combined acceleration by Langmuir turbulence and the regular electric field, the observed spectrum of energetic protons and the power-law spectrum of energetic electrons can be reproduced.  相似文献

The spatial and temporal evolution of the high temperature plasma in the flare of 1973 June 15 has been studied using the flare images photographed by the NRL XUV spectroheliograph on Skylab. The overall event involves the successive activations of a number of different loops and arches bridging the magnetic neutral line. The spatial shifts and brightenings observed in the Fe xxiii–xxiv lines are interpreted as the activation of new structures. These continued for four or five minutes after the end of the microwave burst phase, implying additional energy-release unrelated to the nonthermal phase of the flare. A shear component observed in the coronal magnetic field may be a factor in the storage and release of the flare energy. The observed Fe xxiii–xxiv intensities define a post-burst heating phase during which the temperature remained approximately constant at 13 × 106 K while the Fe xxiv intensity and 0–3 Å flux rose to peak values. This phase coincided with the activation of the densest structure (N e = 2 × 1011 cm–3). Heating of higher loops continued into the decay phase, even as the overall temperature and flux declined with the fading of the lower Fe xxiv arches. The observed morphology of individual flaring arches is consistent with the idea of energy release at altitude in the arch (coincident with a bright, energetic core in the Fe xxiv image) and energy flow downward into the ribbons. The Doppler velocity of the Fe xxi 1354 Å line is less than 5 km s–1, indicating that the hot plasma region is stationary. The relation of this flare to the larger class of flares associated with filament eruptions and emerging magnetic flux is discussed.  相似文献

A white-light-flare (WLF) was recorded on March 27, 1991 at Tashkent. The WLF occurred at the penumbra of a large, complex sunspot group. The energy released by the WLF per unit time was 2.4 × 1028 erg s-1.  相似文献

Time sequences of He i and He ii resonance line intensities at several sites within the flare of 15 June, 1973 are derived from observations obtained with the Naval Research Laboratory's Slitless Spectroheliograph on Skylab. The data are compared with predictions in six model flare atmospheres based on two values for the heating rate and three for the flux of photoionizing coronal X-rays and EUV. A peak ionizing flux more than 103 times that in the quiet Sun is indicated. For most conditions in flare kernels the He ii L and L lines are found to be formed by collisional excitation, thereby contributing to the local cooling of the plasma at temperatures above 6 × 104 K. Emission in the higher Lyman lines is generally the result of a mixture of collisional excitation at these temperatures and photoionization and recombination at temperatures near 2.5 × 104 K. We discuss implications for the common practice of deriving stellar coronal fluxes from He ii 1640 Å fluxes assuming dominance of the recombination mechanism.Chief, Quantum Physics Division, National Institute of Standards and Technology.Operated jointly by the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the University of Colorado.Operated by the National Optical Astronomy Observatories of the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. under contract with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

In this paper the solar neutron and white-light flare is studied on the basis of radioastronomical observations. It is shown that the 3 June, 1982 flare had an impulsive character. A strong shock wave (M A 2.9) was observed unusually soon after the impulsive phase of the flare. The radio spectrum of this event shows that the primary acceleration process probably occurred in the region with an electron density of n e = 4.4 × 1015 m–3. The pulsations of the type IV radio burst, observed 15 min after the mass ejection process, manifest the reconnection process in the post-flare stage.Proceedings of the Workshop on Radio Continua during Solar Flares, held at Duino (Trieste), Italy, 27–31 May, 1985.  相似文献

The Very Large Array (VLA) and the frequency agile interferometer at the Owens Valley Radio Observatory (OVRO) were used to observe the M8.1 flare of 23 June, 1988. The VLA obtained images prior to and during the flare at 333 MHz, and at 1.5 and 4.7 GHz. The frequency agile interferometer at Owens Valley obtained interferometer amplitude and total power spectra of the flare at 45 frequencies between 1 and 18 GHz. The observations were supplemented by radiometer measurements made by the USAF RSTN network site at Palehua, HI, by GOES soft X-ray observations, by USAF SOON H filtergrams, and by a KPNO photospheric magnetogram. The radio data reveal a wide variety of phenomena, including: (i) a multiply impulsive microwave burst that is essentially thermal in character; (ii) stationary discrete components at 1.5 GHz, associated temporally and spatially with distant brightenings in Ha; (iii) a dynamical component at 1.5 GHz associated with hot plasma moving subsonically into the corona; (iv) the appearance of intense, short-lived, decimetric burst activity near the lead sunspot in the active region at 1.5 GHz, indicative of a high degree of inhomogeneity in the source. The unusually complete radio coverage allows us to investigate the transport of energy from the initial site to sites of distant H brightenings. The transport of energy appears to be most consistent with slow, thermal processes, rather than rapid transport by nonthermal electron beams.  相似文献

The impulsive phase of a large solar limb flare of June 20, 1989   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
On 1989 June 20, we observed in H the impulsive phase of a 3B/X1.6 limb flare with high temporal resolution. Line profiles have been acquired every 2.3 s with an imaging spectrograph. During the eruption of a filament we observed in H a moving plasma blob from what we believe to be a second loop which correlated spatially and temporally with a microwave source at 1.4 GHz observed by VLA. A magnetodynamic model is used to understand the development of the moving plasma blob.  相似文献

A solar flare with both H and Fe i 5324 emissions was observed in AR 7529 (S13, E65) on 24 June, 1993 at the Bejing Astronomical Observatory. Our calculations show that the Fe i 5324 emission region of the flare was located in the low photosphere at a height of about 180 km above 5000 = 1, which is lower than many previous studies of white-light flares. To study a Fe i 5324 flare, which represents a kind of extreme case in solar flares, would be useful for clarifying some arguments in the researches of white-light flares as well as for understanding the mechanism of solar flares. The synthetic analyses from vairous features of the flare lead to the following possible exciting mechanism of the Fe i 5324 flare: owing to the flow of energetic electrons from the corona and probably also the thermal conduction downward into the lower atmosphere, a condensation with a temperature higher than that below it was formed near the transition region. Then the low photosphere was heated through backwarming. The Fe i 5324 flare occurred as an indicator of the excitation in the low photosphere.  相似文献

This paper briefly reports on the intense microwave burst associated with a white light flare at 2545 and 2645 MHz on 1991 June 6. The burst had a very high flux density, a very high degree of polarization and very complex changes in polarization state. A chromospheric white light flare was observed during the first peak of the burst. We briefly discuss the time relation between the two and the cause for the changes in polarization.  相似文献

The analysis of the high temperature plasma in Fe xxiii–xxiv in the 15 June 1973 flare is presented. The observations were obtained with the NRLXUV spectroheliograph on Skylab. The results are: (1) There was preheating of the active region in which the flare occurred. In particular, a large loop in the vicinity of the flaring region showed enhanced brightness for many hours before the flare. The loop disappeared when the flare occurred, and returned in the postflare phase, as if the energy flux which had been heating the large loop was blocked during the flare and restored after the flare was gone. The large magnetic fields did not change significantly. (2) The flare occurred in low-lying loop or loops. The spatial distribution of flare emission shows that there was a temperature gradient along the loop. (3) The high temperature plasma emitting Fe xxiii and xxiv had an initial upward motion with a velocity of about 80 km s–1. (4) There was large turbulent mass motion in the high temperature plasma with a random velocity of 100 to 160 km s–1. (5) The peak temperature of the hot plasma, determined from the Fe xxiii and xxiv intensity ratio, was 14 × 106 K. It decreased slightly and then, for a period of 4 min, remained at 12.6 × 106 K before dropping sharply to below 10 × 106 K. The density of the central core of the hot plasma, determined from absolute intensity of Fe xxiv 255 Å line, was of the order of 1011 cm–3.The persistence of the high level of turbulence and of the high temperature plateau in the decaying phase of the flare indicates the presence of secondary energy release. From the energy balance equation the required energy source is calculated to be about 3 to 7 ergs cm–3 s–1.Ball Brothers Research Corporation.  相似文献

The solar flare of 1969 March 30, occurring 20° behind the west limb, produced very extensive 80 MHz radio emission at the Sun, and gave rise to the deployment of cosmic radiation over 360°long, in interplanetary space. The wide spread of this event may reflect a similar spread of coronal magnetic fields from the flare site. We interpret the solar proton data recorded by spacecraft at two separate points both at 1 AU, in terms of a two-component injection of particles at the Sun consisting of: (i) a soft component which arrived promptly; (ii) a harder component which arrived later. The radio spectral and positional data provide evidence of shock waves which propagated far and wide from the flare; we attribute the precursor injection of the soft ( 10 MeV) proton component to one of these shock waves.Radiophysics Publication RPP 1590, May, 1972.Now at University of California, LASL, Los Alamos, N.M., U.S.A.  相似文献

We compare solar X-ray observations from the UCSD experiment aboard OSO-7 with high resolution energetic electron observations from the UCAL experiment on IMP-6 for a small solar flare on 26 February 1972. A proportional counter and NaI scintillator covered the X-ray energy range 5–300 keV, while a semiconductor detector telescope covered electrons from 18 to 400 keV. A series of four non-thermal X-ray spikes were observed from 1805 to 1814 UT with average spectrum dJ/d (hv) (hv)–4.0 over the 14–64 keV range. The energetic electrons were observed at 1 AU beginning 1840 UT with a spectrum dJ/dE E –3.1. If the electrons which produce the X-ray emission and those observed at 1 AU are assumed to originate in a common source, then these observations are consistent with thin target X-ray production at the Sun and inconsistent with thick target production. Under a model consistent with the observed soft X-ray emission, we obtain quantitative estimates of the total energy, total number, escape efficiency, and energy lost in collisions for the energetic electrons.  相似文献

The global structure of the solar wind in June 1991   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A. V. Usmanov 《Solar physics》1993,148(2):371-382
A numerical simulation of the global solar wind structure for Carrington rotation 1843 (31 May–28 June, 1991) is performed based on a fully three-dimensional, steady-state MHD model of the solar wind (Usmanov, 1993b). A self-consistent solution for 3-D MHD equations is constructed for the spherical shell extending from the solar photosphere up to 10 AU. Solar magnetic field observations are used to prescribe boundary conditions. The computed distribution of the magnetic field is compared with coronal hole observations and with the IMF measurements made by IMP-8 spacecraft at the Earth's orbit.  相似文献

The flare plasma temperature calculated from GOES-11 (1.5–12.4 and 3.1–24.8 keV) data is compared with the solar nonthermal fluxes in various energy ranges in the December 6, 2006 event. Particle acceleration and plasma heating episodes took place in the pre-flare and impulsive phases; a hard (ACS SPI > 150 keV) X-ray emission was observed 5 min before the onset of the GOES X-ray flare and was not accompanied by a temperature rise. A close correlation has been found between the flare plasma temperature and the hard X-ray intensity. The temperature delayed by 0.4 min turned out to be directly proportional to the logarithm of the ACS SPI count rate within the first 3 min of the impulsive phase. This shows that the accelerated electrons responsible for the X-ray emission were the main plasma heating source in the pre-flare and impulsive phases. The correlation between the temperature and the hard X-ray intensity disappears after the observation of a resonance peak at a frequency of 245 MHz. Significant electron fluxes may no longer be able to effectively heat the expanding plasma when its density in the interaction region reaches ∼109 cm−3. The observations of the July 23, 2002 and December 5, 2006 events confirm the trends found.  相似文献

In a search for linear polarization effects, 37 profiles of the H line emitted in the 16 May 1991 flare have been analyzed. Linear polarization is clearly present in the central part of line. On average, the degree of polarization is 7 %, but it reaches 20 % in regions with lower H ga emission. Generally the orientation of the plane of polarization coincides with the flare to disk center direction, except for sections where the H ga line has the characteristic form observed in moustaches. We believe that the linear polarization observed in the 16 May 1991 flare was caused by bombardment of the chromosphere by beams of accelerated particles, protons in the main part of the flare and electrons at locations where the H ga line has the characteristic moustache structure.  相似文献
