We have determined absolute continuum intensities and brightness temperatures of individual facular grains at a spatial resolution limited by the =50 cm aperture of the SVST on La Palma. A facular region at 57° was observed simultaneously in three narrow continuum windows at 450.5, 658.7, and 863.5 nm. We corrected for image degradation by the Earth's atmosphere using the speckle masking method. The brightness temperatures do not exactly follow the Planck law. The differences of T blueT red=220 K and T irT red=–42 K reflect the wavelength dependence of the continuum formation depth. The (red) temperatures of 250 facular grains show excesses between 250 and 450 K above their undisturbed neighborhood. The wavelength dependence of the relative intensity ratios C= [I fac/I phot] show a large scatter around mean values of C blue/C red=1.075 and C ir/C red=0.98. We determined the center-to-limb variation of the 863.5 nm continuum contrast for 0.17>cos>0.39 by measuring 270 grains in reconstructed facular images. The upper envelope of the data points increases linearly to 1.5 at cos=0.17. Application of the mean color dependence yields green contrasts up to C 550=1.7, which is far higher than previously observed values. The behaviour for cos>0.17 is estimated from (unreconstructed) frame-selected best images taken over a time interval of 7 hours. Six distinct facular regions clearly discernible during the whole time interval indicate a slight contrast decrease towards the extreme limb. The observed quantities are useful for an adjustment of model calculations and for a discrimination of competing models.  相似文献

In a previous publication (1977) the author has constructed a family () of long-periodic orbits in the Trojan case of the restricted problems of three bodies. Here he constructs the domain of the analytical solution of the problem of the motion, excluding the vicinity of thecritical divisor which vanishes at the exact commensurability of the natural frequencies 1 and 2. In terms of thecritical masses mj(2), or the associatedcritical energies j 2 (m), is the intersection of the intervals ofshallow resonance, of the form. Free convection effects on MHD flow past a semi infinite porous flat plate is studied when the time dependent suction velocity changes in step function form. The solution of the problem is obtained in closed form for the fluid with unit Prandtl number. It is observed that for both cooling and heating of the plate the suction velocity enhances the velocity field. Surface photometry of the UV continuum galaxy NGC 838 has been carried out in theB, V system using photographic plates obtained with the 74 Kottamia telescope, Egypt. Isophotes, luminosity profiles, integrated photographic magnitudes, effective diameters and other photometric parameters are derived.The photoelectrically calibrated total apparent magnitudes areB T =13.57 with maximum diameters 1.57×1.34 (at threshold m =27.7 mag.//) andV T =12.91 with maximum diameters 1.54×1.32 (at threshold m =27.7 mag./). The integrated colour index(B–V) T =0.66 and the effective surface brightness e (B=19.0 mag./) and e (V=19.7 mag./. The major axis is at position angle =85°±1°.The nucleus of NGC 838 is quite blue (integrated colour(B–V)=0.41 forr *<0.1) compared to normal galaxies while the colour becomes redder from the nucleus outwards. The UV excess, H emission and radio continuum emission previously observed from this galaxy by other investigators may be attributed to a recent burst of star formation in the nucleus of the galaxy of duration slightly greater than 2×107 yr.  相似文献

The contribution to the galactic abundance of He and heavy elements by stellar nucleosynthesis is calculated as a function of time, keeping account of present knowledge about stellar and galactic evolution. A model is used which distinguishes the phase of the contracting halo from the subsequent history of the disc. Various uncertainties involved both in stellar and in galactic evolutionary theory are discussed. The amount of4He produced by stars of different masses and ejected in interstellar medium is fairly well known from stellar theory, while we have assumed its primordial abundance as a free parameter, ranging from 0 up to 0.4. We find that stellar activity provides a significant contribution to the cosmic4He, though not sufficient to explain the observed abundance. The best agreement with observational data (Y 0.26 andY now0.28) is obtained starting with a primordial abundanceY =(0.20–0.23), which is consisten with the Big-Bang theory predictions and with recent observational estimates. The contribution to the abundance of heavy elements depends on the last stellar stages and on the final explosion mechanism, which are only now beginning to be understood. Nevertheless, in the framework of present theories, we individuate a stellar evolutionary scheme reproducing the observedZ abundances for Populationi and Populationii stars, with the correctly estimated Y/Z value. In this scheme, only stars belonging to two narrow mass ranges (10m/m 15 andm/m 80) are allowed to eject metal-enriched matter, possibly with the solar (C+O)/(Si+Fe) ratio.  相似文献

The analysis of solar wind He++ and H+ ion distribution functions, collected over five months by the satellite Prognoz 1, shows that these are in general maxwellian but that often tails appear at higher speeds. The existing relation V-T, the observation of ratios of T/Tp 3.83 and V/Vp 1.035 give evidence of preferential He++ ion heating and acceleration. The criteria for heating by dissipation of hydromagnetic waves proposed by Barnes and Hung (1973) are tested experimentally. Finally, multifluid models are likely to predict certain observations such as dependence of the velocity ratio V/Vp on the solar wind flux.  相似文献

The angular size-redshift test for quasars was compared with various cosmological models including non standard models. The possible effects of radio source orientation and relativistic beaming were taken into account in the analysis.It was found that orientation effects alone were not sufficient to explain the observed-z relation in terms of Friedmann models. In addition, linear size evolution of the formD ~ (1 +z)n , with 0.75 n 1.2 would be required for 0 1.0, or possibly an inverse correlation between luminosity and linear size. The non-standard cosmological models all gave better fits to the deprojected data than the Friedmann models in the absence of evolutionary effects, with the tired light effect providing the best fit.  相似文献

The stars in the Main Sequence are seen as a hierarchy of objects with different massesM and effective dynamical radiiR eff=R/ given by the stellar radii and the coefficients for the inner structure of the stars.As seen in a previous work (Paper I), during the lifetime in the Main SequenceR eff(t) remains a near invariant when compared to the variation in the time ofR(t) and (t).With such an effectiveR eff one obtains the amounts of actionA c(M), the effective densities eff(M)=(M)3(M), the densities of action and of energy (or mean presures in the stellar interior)a c(M),e c(M), and the potential energiesE p(M).The amounts of action areA cM k withk1.87 for the M stars,k5/3 for the KGF stars, andk1.83 for the A and earlier stars, representing very simples conditions for the other dynamical parameters. For instancek5/3 means a near invariant effective density eff for the KGF stars, while for such stars the mean densities and coefficients present the strongest variations with masses (M)M –1.81, (M)M0.6.The cases for the M stars (e c(M)M –1) and for the A and earlier stars (betweena c(M)=constant and eff(M)M –1) and also discussed. These conditions for the earlier stars also represent reasonable mean values for the whole stellar hierarchy in the range of masses 0.2M M25M .With all this, one can build dynamical HR diagrams withA c(M), Ep(M), eff M p , etc., whose characteristics are analogous to these in the photometrical HR diagram. A comparison is made betweenA c(M) from the models here and the HR diagram with the best known stars of luminosity classes IV, V, and white dwarfs.The comparison of the potential energiesE p(M)M –p according to the stellar models used here and the observed frequency function (MM –q (number of stars in a given interval of masses) from different authors suggests the possibility that the productE p(M)(M) is a constant, but this must be confirmed with further studies of the function (M) and its fine structure.There are analogies between the formulation used here for the stellar hierarchy and other physical processes, for instance, in modified forms of the Kolmogorov law of turbulence and in the formulation used for the hierarchy of molecular clouds in gravitational equilibrium. Besides, the function of actionA c(M) for the stars has analogous properties to the relations of angular momenta and massesJ(M) for different types of objects. An analysis of the effects of Hall current on hydromagnetic free-convective flow through a porous medium bounded by a vertical plate is theoretically investigated when a strong magnetic field is imposed in a direction which is perpendicular to the free stream and makes an angle to the vertical direction. The plot of the X-ray luminosity (in 0.5–4.5 KeV band and for Friedmann universe withq 0=+1) of the brightest X-ray QSO at each redshift against redshift shows that the X-ray luminosity increases more or less monotonically with redshift uptoz3. This result has been attributed to the selection effect known as the volume effect. When this selection effect is taken into account in the optical, radio and X-ray windows of the electromagnetic spectrum, a sample of the brightest X-ray QSO's is obtained which shows a small dispersion in X-ray luminosity: logL 1=46.15±0.25. The redshift-X-ray flux density plot for this sample gives slopes of both regression lines which agree, at a confidence level of 95% or greater, with the slopes expected theoretically if the redshifts of the QSO's are cosmological in nature.  相似文献

Observations of facular regions on 35 days during 1982 obtained with the Extreme Limb Photometer are reported. The data were obtained at a wavelength of 0.53 m with two apertures, No. 1 covering 36 arc sec and No. 2 covering 11 arc sec, inwards from the limb. The mean contrasts for all regions detected are 1.05 ± 0.12% and 1.59 ± 0.16%, respectively. The mean contrast of the faculae closer to the limb (aperture 2) is 1.51 ± 0.23 times that from aperture No. 1. This contrast ratio can be fit to a –1-curve. These results are consistent with those from 1975 and 1979 observations and may be consistent with the facular limb-darkening function determined by Libbrecht and Kuhn (1984, 1985) if our data are normalized by the area of the solar surface. However, no calibrations or corrections are required to obtain the mean facular contrast presented here.  相似文献

The V variations of ellipsoidal variables are investigated as a function of the spectral type of the primary. A model is developed on the assumption that the primary has near Main-Sequence characteristics. It is argued that the observed minimum in the V variations around spectral type F is real and is due to variations in the gravity-darkening exponent . The absolute upper limit to V variations is found to be 0.2 mag.  相似文献

Vibrational transition probabilities namely Franck-Condon factors and -centroids have been evaluated using an approximate analytical method for theA-X systems of OH and PN. KKRV potential energy curves forX 2 i ,X 1+,A 2+, andA 1 states of OH and PN have been constructed using the latest spectroscopic data. The value of -centroids for the band have been found to increase linearly with the corresponding wavelengths. We show results for six new bands and OH and eight new bands of PN in the spectra of astronomical objects.  相似文献

A new type of cosmic virial theorem is derived, representing a relation among the two-point and three-point galaxy correlation functions and the mean square relative peculiar velocity v 2(r) averaged over pairs of galaxies separated by distancer. The two correlation functions seem to be fairly well known, but v 2(r) at best is only very roughly estimated from available data. It might be possible to improve the estimate through a systematic program of redshift measurements in sample areas. If so, the cosmic virial theorem might yield an interesting measure of the mean mass density due to galaxies.Research supported in part by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

We present results from a study of sunspots and faculae on continuum and Caii K images taken at the San Fernando Observatory (SFO) during 1989–1992; a total of approximately 800 images in each bandpass were used. About 18000 red sunspots, 147000 red faculae, and 800000 Caii K faculae were identified based on their contrasts. In addition, we computed the contrasts of pixels on the red images cospatial with Caii K faculae. Sunspot contrasts show a strong dependence on size but no dependence on heliocentric angle. There are continuous but systematic differences among facular regions. We find that the contrast of Caii K faculae is relatively insensitive to heliocentric angle, but is a strong function of facular size, in the sense that larger Caii K faculae are always brighter. The contrast of red faculae is a function of both heliocentric angle and size: the contrast functions show that larger regions contain larger flux tubes, contain deeper flux tubes, and have larger filling factors than small facular regions. Comparisons of cospatial pixels on red and Caii K images show a tight correlation between the average contrast of a region in the continuum and its size and heliocentric angle in the Caii K images. The average contrast of all facular regions is positive everywhere on the disk, even though the largest regions contain flux tubes which appear dark at disk center.  相似文献

In this paper I present a new evolution model of QSOs luminosity. The model is based on edges distribution of apparent magnitude-redshift of QSOs. After the quasars were formed, the luminosities were increasing until they attained their maximum value atz=2+a, where –0.1a0.6, then the luminosities were decreasing. If the QSOs originate from superconducting cosmic string of same initial massM i 1012 M , the formation epochs are different, most of the quasars start atz cutoff5.6. The most luminous QSOs start at later epochz cutoff5.15. The present sky survey echniques may give us the possibility to see the formation of QSOs at apparent magnitudem V 22.5 by chance of 0.3%.  相似文献

An expression is derived for the fluctuation (t) in emergent intensity (observed at some wavelength in a Fraunhofer line or the continuum) caused by a perturbation in temperature (z, t) in the Sun's atmosphere. If the contribution function for the observed intensity is single-peaked near z and if (z) and p(z) are not too rapidly varying, then (t) m (z , t)+N p(z , t) where m and N depend on the structure of the atmosphere. Résumé On étudie l'effet du champ magnétique terrestre sur le mouvement d'un satellite autour de son centre de gravité. Le satellite possède une symétrie dynamique et un moment magnétique propre dirigé suivant l'un des axes principaux d'inertie; le champ magnétique terrestre est assimilé au champ d'un dipôle dont les pôles coïncident avec les pôles terrestres. On néglige les perturbations de la trajectoire du satellite qui est supposée circulaire. La position du satellite par rapport à son centre de gravité est repérée dans un système d'axes lié au plan de l'orbite et le mouvement est décrit à l'aide des angles d'Euler , , . La symétrie sphérique et le choix du moment magnétique sur l'un des axes d'inertie permettent d'éliminer l'angle .La solution pour et peut se développer en séries de puissance d'un petit paramètre . Les séries convergent pour ||<1.Lorsque le moment magnétique est faible on la rotation du satellite rapide, est faible. Les développements sont calculés effectivement jusqu'à 2.La comparaison des résultats avec l'intégration numérique du système d'équations différentielles est satisfaisante.
The effect of the Earth's magnetic field on the motion of a satellite around its centre of mass is investigated. The satellite is assumed to be dynamically symmetric and to be magnetized in the same direction as that of a principal axis. The Earth's magnetic field is assumed to be a dipole field whose poles coincide with the rotation poles of the Earth. The satellite's orbit is circular and perturbations are neglected. The position of the satellite with respect to its centre of mass is given with respect to a coordinate system fixed in the orbital plane and the motion is described by Euler's angles , , . The spherical symmetry and the coincidence of the magnetic moment with a principal axis allow one to eliminate the angle .The solution for and , can be expanded in power series for small parameter .The series converge for <1. is small for a small magnetic moment or a high angular velocity of the rotating satellite. The terms of the expansion of the series are calculated up to 2.The comparison of the results with those obtained by numerical integration of the differential equation is satisfactory.
