Turbulent air-sea interactions coupled with the surface wave dynamics remain a challenging problem. The needs to include this kind of interaction into the coupled environmental, weather and climate models motivate the development of a simplified approximation of the complex and strongly nonlinear interaction processes. This study proposes a quasi-linear model of wind-wave coupling. It formulates the approach and derives the model equations. The model is verified through a set of laboratory (direct measurements of an airflow by the particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique) and numerical (a direct numerical simulation (DNS) technique) experiments. The experiments support the central model assumption that the flow velocity field averaged over an ensemble of turbulent fluctuations is smooth and does not demonstrate flow separation from the crests of the waves. The proposed quasi-linear model correctly recovers the measured characteristics of the turbulent boundary layer over the waved water surface.  相似文献

Various concepts exist to define substitute conductors for empirical response estimates at singular frequencies: Chapman's shell-core model, the Cagniard-Tikhonov apparent resistivity, the Niblett-Bostick and Molochnov transformation, thep *z * transformation. They are all interrelated and assign comparable resistivities to the substitute conductor at a given frequency. Applications to synthetic response data of plane and spherical conductors show under which conditions these substitutions come closest to the model and which influence of source dimensions and Earth's sphericity can be expected.p *z * transformed global response data forS andDst variations demonstrate how substitute conductors may serve as useful guides in inverse procedures.  相似文献

Summary The frequency equation of Rayleigh waves propagating over the free surface of an isotropic, perfectly elastic, heterogeneous semi-infinite medium with material properties varying as = 0 e az , = 0 e az , = 0 e az (a>0) has been obtained. Solution of the frequency equation in closed form is obtained in two cases (i) =0, (ii) =, and the Rayleigh wave dispersion curves for phase and group velocities drawn. In both the cases the medium yields single Rayleigh modes which cannot propagate below certain cut-off frequencies. It is found that in case (i), <c<c 0 and 0.87500 <c g <c 0, and in case (ii), 1.03082 <c<c 1 and 0.90850 <c g <c 1, wherec andc g denote phase nad group velocities respectively, is the constant shear wave velocity of the mediumc 0 andc 1 are the corresponding Rayleigh wave velocities of the homogeneous medium of the same Poisson's ratio. The motion of the surface particles is found to be retrograde elliptical as in the homogeneous case, but the ratic of the major and minor axes now becomes frequency dependent and is plotted against frequency. In both the cases (i) and (ii), the ratio starts at a lower value at the cut-off frequency and approaches the corresponding value of the homogeneous medium at high frequencies.  相似文献

The paper presents a brief review of problems of physics of ultralow-frequency electromagnetic waves studied by the author at the Borok Geophysical Observatory (BGO) Schmidt Institute of Physics of the Earth, RAS, in the period from 1964 through 1980. A numerical study is conducted to investigate the impact of climate changes on ocean surface gravity waves over the eastern Canadian shelf (ECS). The “business-as-usual” climate scenario known as Representative Concentration Pathway RCP8.5 is considered in this study. Changes in the ocean surface gravity waves over the study region for the period 1979–2100 are examined based on 3 hourly ocean waves simulated by the third-generation ocean wave model known as WAVEWATCHIII. The wave model is driven by surface winds and ice conditions produced by the Canadian Regional Climate Model (CanRCM4). The whole study period is divided into the present (1979–2008), near future (2021–2050) and far future (2071–2100) periods to quantify possible future changes of ocean waves over the ECS. In comparison with the present ocean wave conditions, the time-mean significant wave heights (H s ) are expected to increase over most of the ECS in the near future and decrease over this region in the far future period. The time-means of the annual 5% largest H s are projected to increase over the ECS in both near and far future periods due mainly to the changes in surface winds. The future changes in the time-means of the annual 5% largest H s and 10-m wind speeds are projected to be twice as strong as the changes in annual means. An analysis of inverse wave ages suggests that the occurrence of wind seas is projected to increase over the southern Labrador and central Newfoundland Shelves in the near future period, and occurrence of swells is projected to increase over other areas of the ECS in both the near and far future periods.  相似文献

An important result of recent years is the normal resistivity profile. It was obtained by interpretation of the combined apparent resistivity curve (magnetotelluric sounding and geomagnetic deep sounding) for the East European platform. This profile has no highly conducting layer and resistivity is greater than 100 ohm-m at asthenospheric depths. It corresponds well with geothermal indications of the absence of partial melting beneath the Precambrian plates. Nearly the same profiles have been obtained for the Canadian shield, and the Siberian and Australian platforms. Investigations carried out in many “hot” regions confirm the existence of a well-developed low-resistivity asthenosphere. Partially molten zones have conductances of about several thousand Siemens in the Eastern Pacific, Iceland and in the North American rift zone. Magnetotelluric soundings show that in many continental areas the lower part of the crust has low resistivity, in the range 10–20 ohm-m. Usually this crustal conductive layer is observed in regions of recent activity. Its total conductivity changes from several hundred to several thousand S. Many investigators propose that the most natural explanation of this conductivity is water solutions.It is necessary to note the distorting role of near-surface inhomogeneities. Local distortions can be eliminated by simple averaging of the experimental data. These average apparent resistivity curves are the starting point for the construction of deep geoelectrical models.  相似文献

Distance measurement with the aid of electromagnetic waves permits the determination of sides of any length with an accuracy equal or superior to that of a base length plus angular measurements. In conjunction with the automation of measurement and calculation, geodesy is now able to determine quickly and with high accuracy positions on the Earth's surface, and of objects on the surface or in outer space. Therefore, these procedures are of high importance to all geosciences.The theoretical fundamentals of the measuring procedures are described first. The form of the path curve and the determination of a representative wave velocity along this path curve are dealt with. The principles of the measuring instruments are explained, and a survey is given of the electro-optic and microwave instruments now available. Possible applications of the measuring procedures in geodesy and other sciences are discussed and applications in use are described.An outlook is provided on the future development of geodetic procedures for which electromagnetic distance measurement will play an important part.  相似文献

近地表有限导体的瞬变电磁响应中包含其形状、结构特征,如何建立这些特征与其响应之间的关系是近地表有限导体探测与识别的核心问题.本文建立了几种典型有限导体响应的三维感应偶极子模型,通过有限导体早期幂函数衰减的幅度与速率、晚期指数衰减的幅度与时间常数共四个模型参数表征有限导体的形状和结构特征,利用最小二乘拟合算法提取这些模型参数,揭示有限导体的形状、结构特征与模型参数之间的内在联系.理论与实验研究结果表明:具有绕球心旋转对称性的球形目标体,其三维感应偶极子响应完全相同,早期响应呈幂函数衰减,晚期呈e指数衰减,信号幅度和时间常数均能很好反映球体半径与材料特性;具有绕轴旋转对称性目标体,其三维感应偶极子响应部分相同,早期幂函数衰减的幅度与速率主要体现目标体的长度特征,晚期e指数衰减的时间常数体现了目标体的外径与壁厚特征;非轴对称性目标体,其三维感应偶极子响应均不相同,各个感应偶极子参数差异较大.本文的研究对提高瞬变电磁系统区分轴对称目标体与金属碎片能力,降低系统探测虚警率具有重要意义.

The study presents a fast imaging technique for the very low‐frequency data interpretation. First, an analytical expression was derived to compute the vertical component of the magnetic field at any point on the Earth's surface for a given current density distribution in a rectangular block on the subsurface. Current density is considered as exponentially decreasing with depth, according to the skin depth rule in a particular block. Subsequently, the vertical component of the magnetic field due to the entire subsurface was computed as the sum of the vertical component of the magnetic field due to an individual block. Since the vertical component of the magnetic field is proportional to the real part of very low‐frequency anomaly, an inversion program was developed for imaging of the subsurface conductors using the real very low‐frequency anomaly in terms of apparent current density distribution in the subsurface. Imaging results from the presented formulation were compared with other imaging techniques in terms of apparent current density and resistivity distribution using a standard numerical forward modelling and inversion technique. Efficacy of the developed approach was demonstrated for the interpretation of synthetic and field very low‐frequency data. The presented imaging technique shows improvement with respect to the filtering approaches in depicting subsurface conductors. Further, results obtained using the presented approach are closer to the results of rigorous resistivity inversion. Since the presented approach uses only the real anomaly, which is not sensitive to very small isolated near‐surface conducting features, it depicts prominent conducting features in the subsurface.  相似文献

Tunnel forward geological prediction is indispensable to tunnel construction. The transient electromagnetic method is widely used in the field of tunnel forward geological prediction. A small fixed-loop transient electromagnetic method adapted to the limited space of a tunnel face is proposed for tunnel forward geological prediction for the first time. This method makes use of a large number of non-central points inside the loop. The obtained numerical simulation and field data show opposite trends owing to mutual inductance and self-inductance. A correction method for the field value of non-central points is proposed. The influences of different parameters are verified and the correction function is established by a test method. The validity of the correction function is verified through controlled field tests. The small fixed-loop transient electromagnetic has been successfully applied to a tunnel under the Weiwu expressway. This method can effectively improve the detection depth and better detect unfavourable geological bodies, such as karsts in front of the tunnel face.  相似文献

The coupling–ray–theory tensor Green function for electromagnetic waves or elastic S waves is frequency dependent, and is usually calculated for many frequencies. This frequency dependence represents no problem in calculating the Green function, but may represent a great problem in storing the Green function at the nodes of dense grids, typical for applications such as the Born approximation. This paper is devoted to the approximation of the coupling–ray–theory tensor Green function, which practically eliminates this frequency dependence within a reasonably broad frequency band.  相似文献

Summary The quasi-stationary electromagnetic response of permeable conductors surrounded by conducting halo and excited by a uniform magnetic field having a step function time dependence has been obtained theoretically for both spherical and cylindrical conductors. For the magnetic conductors the results give the long period limit of the response and define a critical time complementary to critical frequency (Ward [1]2)) which may be used to estimate the magnetic content. Summary The interpretation of surface seismic waves records is rather complicated as they include a superposition of oscillations of the fundamental mode and higher modes. Besides recorded oscillations depend on spectral characteristics of motions in earthquakes sources. The spatial variability of open ocean wave fields on scales of O (10km) is assessed from four different data sources: TerraSAR-X SAR imagery, four drifting SWIFT buoys, a moored waverider buoy, and WAVEWATCH III? model runs. Two examples from the open north-east Pacific, comprising of a pure wind sea and a mixed sea with swell, are given. Wave parameters attained from observations have a natural variability, which decreases with increasing record length or acquisition area. The retrieval of dominant wave scales from point observations and model output are inherently different to dominant scales retrieved from spatial observations. This can lead to significant differences in the dominant steepness associated with a given wave field. These uncertainties have to be taken into account when models are assessed against observations or when new wave retrieval algorithms from spatial or temporal data are tested. However, there is evidence of abrupt changes in wave field characteristics that are larger than the expected methodological uncertainties.  相似文献

Summary Continental dispersion curves for Love and Rayleigh waves have been determined by means of the Uppsala seismograph records for three earthquakes near the south coast of Turkey in April, 1957. To the authors' knowledge this is the first time dispersion curves have been determined for a relatively homogenous path across the whole of continental Europe and covering a good range of periods, namely from 3 to 86 sec for Love waves and from 5 to 61 sec for Rayleigh waves. The dispersion curves obtained are relevant to determinations of the average structure along the path traversed in particular, and to determinations of crustal structure of the European continent in general.
Zusammenfassung Kontinentale Dispersionskurven für Love-und Rayleigh-Wellen wurden vermittels Registrierungen an der Station Uppsala von drei Erdbeben in der Nähe der Südküste der Türkei im April 1957 bestimmt. Soweit es den Autoren bekannt ist, wurden damit erstmalig Dispersionskurven für einen relativ homogenen Weg über das gesamte kontinentale Europa mit einem beträchtlichen Periodenbereich, der 3 bis 86 Sek für Love-Wellen und 5 bis 61 Sek für Rayleigh-Wellen umfasst, ausgearbeitet. Die erhaltenen Dispersionskurven haben ihre Bedeutung in der Festlegung der mittleren Krustenstruktur entlang dem durchlaufenen Wellenweg und überhaupt in der Festlegung der Krustenstruktur im Bereich des europäischen Kontinents.

利用我们建立的三维分层线性理论计算模式和中尺度数值模式ARPS, 分别研究了三维分层流动过双山脉地形产生的三维线性和非线性山脉重力波和大气船舶的结构特征及其形成机制.线性理论计算结果表明三维三层流动过双山脉地形时,两个山脉各自强迫出一个发散模态的山脉背风波,在第二个山脉背风面,三维三层流动过双山脉地形可以强迫出两个发散模态的拦截背风波,大大加强了对大气环流的拖曳作用.非线性数值模拟结果表明,流动过山所产生的非线性山脉重力波和大气船舶完全不同于三维分层线性理论计算模式所产生的山脉重力波和大气船舶的结构和特征,由于分层流体之间的非线性相互作用,三维三层流动过双山脉地形时,可在第二个山脉背风面激发4个发散模态的拦截背风波. 三维三层流动过双山脉地形所强迫的山脉重力波和大气船舶,具有同三维三层流动过孤立山脉所产生的山脉重力波和大气船舶完全不同的结构和特征,三维流动过双山脉地形对两个山脉之间的距离表现出极大的敏感性.对于相距较远的两个山脉,流动过双山脉所强迫的山脉重力波表现为4个发散模态的拦截背风波,波动的能量相对于相距较近的两个山脉能传播到更高的高度.  相似文献

This study presents the analysis of the velocity fluctuations to describe the conditional statistics of Reynolds shear stress in flow over two‐dimensional dunes in the presence of surface waves of varying frequency. The flow velocity measurements over the dunes are made using a 16‐MHz 3D acoustic Doppler velocimeter. The joint probability distributions of the normalized stream‐wise and vertical velocity fluctuations at different vertical locations are calculated in the trough region of a selected dune in quasi‐steady region of the flow. Third‐order moments of the stream‐wise and vertical velocity components over one dune length are also calculated throughout the flow depth for understanding the effect of surface waves on relative contributions to the Reynolds shear stress due to the four quadrant events. The structure of instantaneous Reynolds stresses is analysed using quadrant analysis technique. It has been shown that the contributions of second and fourth quadrant events to the Reynolds shear stress increase with increase in the frequency of surface waves. In fact, the largest contribution to turbulent stresses comes from the second quadrant. The cumulant discard method is applied to describe the statistical properties of the covariance term uw′. Conditional statistics and conditional sampling are used to compare the experimental and theoretical relative contributions to the Reynolds shear stress from the four quadrant events.
