The spin Hamiltonian (SH) parameters (g factors g x , g y and g z and the hyperfine structure constants A x , A y and A z ) and local structure for the rhombic Rh4+ and Ir4+ centers in TiO2 (rutile) are theoretically studied from the perturbation formulas of these parameters for a low spin (S = 1/2) d 5 ion under rhombically distorted octahedra. In the calculations, the ligand orbital and spin–orbit coupling contributions as well as the influence of the local lattice distortions are taken into account using the cluster approach. The local axial elongation ratios are found to be about 1.7 and 3 times, respectively, larger for the Rh4+ and Ir4+ centers than that (≈0.0075) for the host Ti4+ site in rutile, while the perpendicular distortion angles (≈−0.28° and −0.42°, respectively) are more than one order in magnitude smaller than the host value (≈−9.12°). This means that the impurity centers exhibit further elongations of the oxygen octahedra and much smaller perpendicular rhombic distortions as compared with those of the host Ti4+ site in TiO2. The above local lattice distortions can be mainly ascribed to the substitution of the host Ti4+ by the nd 5 impurities, which may induce different physical and chemical properties for the metal–ligand clusters. In addition, the influence of the Jahn–Teller effect on the local structure may not be completely excluded. The calculated SH parameters show reasonable agreement with the observed values.  相似文献

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) study of single crystals of chromium-doped forsterite grown by the Czochralski method in two different research laboratories has revealed, apart from the known paramagnetic centers Cr3+(M1), Cr3+(M2) and Cr4+, a new center \textCr 3+ (M 1)-V\textMg 2+ (M 2) {\text{Cr}}^{ 3+ } (M 1){-}V_{{{\text{Mg}}^{ 2+ } }} (M 2) formed by a Cr3+ ion substituting for Mg2+ at the M1 structural position with a nearest-neighbor Mg2+ vacancy at the M2 position. For this center, the conventional zero-field splitting parameters D and E and the principal g values and A values of the 53Cr hyperfine splitting have been determined as follows: D = 33.95(3) GHz, E = 8.64(1) GHz, g = [1.9811(2), 1.9787(2), 1.9742(2)], A = [51(3), 52(2), 44(3)] MHz. The center has been identified by comparing EPR spectra with those of the charge-uncompensated ion Cr3+(M1) and the ion pair Cr3+(M1)–Li+(M2) observed in forsterite crystals codoped with chromium and lithium. It has been found that the concentration of the new center decreases to zero, whereas that of the Cr3+(M1) and Cr3+(M1)–Li+(M2) centers increases with an increase of the Li content from 0 up to ~0.03 wt% (at the same Cr content ~0.07 wt%) in the melt. The known low-temperature luminescence data pertinent to the centers under consideration are also discussed.  相似文献

The thermoelastic behaviour of a natural gedrite having the crystal-chemical formula ANa0.47 B(Na0.03 Mg1.05 Fe0.862+ Mn0.02 Ca0.04) C(Mg3.44 Fe0.362+ Al1.15 Ti0.054+) T(Si6.31 Al1.69)O22 W(OH)2 has been studied by single-crystal X-ray diffraction to 973 K (Stage 1). After data collection at 973 K, the crystal was heated to 1,173 K to induce dehydrogenation, which was registered by significant changes in unit-cell parameters, M1–O3 and M3–O3 bond lengths and refined site-scattering values of M1 and M4 sites. These changes and the crystal-chemical formula calculated from structure refinement show that all Fe2+ originally at M4 migrates into the ribbon of octahedrally coordinated sites, where most of it oxidises to Fe3+, and there is a corresponding exchange of Mg from the ribbon into M4. The resulting composition is that of an oxo-gedrite with an inferred crystal-chemical formula ANa0.47 B(Na0.03 Mg1.93 Ca0.04) C(Mg2.56 Mn0.022+ Fe0.102+ Fe1.223+ Al1.15 Ti0.054+) T(Si6.31 Al1.69) O22 W[O1.122− (OH)0.88]. This marked redistribution of Mg and Fe is interpreted as being driven by rapid dehydrogenation at the H3A and H3B sites, such that all available Fe in the structure orders at M1 and M3 sites and is oxidised to Fe3+. Thermoelastic data are reported for gedrite and oxo-gedrite; the latter was measured during cooling from 1,173 to 298 K (Stage 2) and checked after further heating to 1,273 K (Stage 3). The thermoelastic properties of gedrite and oxo-gedrite are compared with each other and those of anthophyllite.  相似文献

The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrum of Cr3+ in synthetic crystals of forsterite consists primarily of lines of Cr3+ “isolated” at the M1 and M2 positions in a “perfect” crystal environment without local charge compensation. In addition it shows two nonequivalent superhyperfine-split sextets with different intensities which are due to strong interaction of the Cr3+ electron spin S (S=3/2) with an adjacent nuclear spin I(I=5/2). Electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) experiments revealed that the sextets result from Cr3+ (M1) - Al3+ and Cr3+ (M2) - Al3+ pairs, Al being located at adjacent tetrahedral Si sites. The g, D, A, and A′ tensor components of the Cr3+ - Al3+ pairs have been determined at room temperature. The values of the pairs are distinct although they are not very different from the corresponding data of “isolated” Cr3+. From the intensities of the EPR spectra the relative concentration of the Cr3+ - Al3+ pairs with respect to “isolated” Cr3+ has been estimated.  相似文献

Six synthetic NaScSi2O6–CaNiSi2O6 pyroxenes were studied by optical absorption spectroscopy. Five of them of intermediate (Na1−x , Ca x )(Sc1−x , Ni x )Si2O6 compositions show spectra typical of Ni2+ in octahedral coordination, more precise Ni2+ at the M1 site of the pyroxene structure. The common feature of all spectra is three broad absorption bands with maxima around 8,000, 13,000 and 24,000 cm−1 assigned to 3 A 2g → 3 T 2g, 3 A 2g → 3 T 1g and →3 T 1g (3 P) electronic spin-allowed transitions of VINi2+. A weak narrow peak at ∼14,400 cm−1 is assigned to the spin-forbidden 3 A 2g → 1 T 2g (1 D) transition of Ni2+. Under pressure the spin-allowed bands shift to higher energies and change in intensity. The octahedral compression modulus, calculated from the shift of the 3 A 2g → 3 T 2g band in the (Na0.7Ca0.3)(Sc0.7Ni0.3)Si2O6 pyroxene is evaluated as 85±20 GPa. The Racah parameter B of Ni2+(M1) is found gradually changing from ∼919 cm−1 at ambient pressure to ∼890 cm−1 at 6.18 GPa. The Ni end-member pyroxene [(Ca0.93 Ni0.07)NiSi2O6] has a spectrum different from all others. In addition to the above mentioned bands of Ni2+(M1) it displays several new relatively intense and broad extra bands, which were attributed to electronic transitions of Ni2+ at the M2 site. In difference to CaO8 polyhedron geometry of an eightfold coordination, Ni2+(M2)O8 polyhedra are assumed to be relatively large distorted octahedra. Due to different distortions and different compressibilities of the M1 and M2 sites the Ni2+(M1)- and Ni2+(M2)-bands display rather different pressure-induced behaviors, becoming more resolved in the high-pressure spectra than in that measured at atmospheric pressure. The octahedral compression modulus of Ni2+(M1) in this end-member pyroxene is evaluated as 150 ± 25 GPa, which is noticeably larger than in Ni0.3 pyroxene. This is due to a smaller size and, thus, a stiffer character of Ni2+(M1)O6 octahedron in the (Ca0.93Ni0.07)NiSi2O6 pyroxene compared to (Na0.7Ca0.3)(Sc0.7Ni0.3)Si2O6.

Majorite of bulk composition Mg0.86Fe0.15SiO3 was synthesized at 19 GPa and 1900 °C at an oxygen fugacity close to the Re/ReO2 buffer. Optical absorption spectra of polycrystalline samples were measured from 4000 to 25000cm?1. The following features were observed: (1) Three bands at 4554, 6005 and 8093 cm?1 due to the 5Eg5T2g transition of Fe2+ in a distorted dodecahedral site. (2) A band at 9340 cm?1 due to the transition 5T2g5Eg of octahedral Fe2+. (3) A band at 22784 cm?1 resulting from Fe3+, probably in an octahedral site (6A1g4A1g, 4Eg). (4) A very intense system of Fe2+ → Fe3+ intervalence charge transfer bands which can be modelled by two Gaussian components centered at 16542 and 20128 cm?1. The existence of two components in the charge transfer spectrum could be related to the fact that the tetragonal majorite structure may contain Fe3+ in two different octahedral sites. The crystal field splitting Δ of Fe2+ in dodecahedral coordination is 5717 cm?1. If a splitting of the ground state in the order of 1000 cm?1 is assumed, this yields a crystal field stabilization energy (CFSE) of 3930 cm?1, comparable to the CFSE of Fe2+ in pyrope-rich garnet. However, the splitting of 5T2g is significantly higher than in pyrope. This would be consistent with Fe2+ preferentially occupying the more distorted one of the two dodecahedral sites in the majorite structure. For octahedral Fe2+, Δ= 9340 cm?1 and CFSE=3736 cm?1, assuming negligible splitting of the ground state.  相似文献

The EPR spectra of Maxixe-type beryl contain a large number of overlapping signals. The angular dependence of the 1:3:3:1 signal typical for the CH3 radical shows that this radical is located at the center of the channel cavity with its symmetry axis parallel to the crystal c-axis and is rotating around this axis. Its EPR spectrum is axially symmetric with g // = 2.00263, g  = 2.00249 and A// = 2.288 mT, A = 2.256 mT. These anisotropies have the opposite signs of those found for surface-adsorbed methyl radicals. Hydrogen atoms are located at position 2a at the center of the beryl cavity and the EPR parameters of the narrow doublet signal are A 0 = 1,407 MHz and g = 2.00230. Another doublet signal, which is broader and has axial symmetry with g // = 2.00265, g  = 2.00625 and A// = 0.895 mT, A = 0.885 mT, could come from a HCO3 radical. One narrow and easily saturated signal with g // = 2.00227 and g  = 2.00386 is interpreted to arise from a carbon monoxide radical in the beryl channel, oriented with its axis parallel to the crystal c-axis. Additional weak doublet lines, which have similar g values as the carbon monoxide radical, are created by nearby hydrogens. A powder spectrum with g // = 2.0017 and g  = 2.0004 appears upon UV irradiation of the single crystal and is easily saturated. This spectrum is interpreted to arise from a carbon dioxide radical, which rotates around its symmetry axis.  相似文献

Magnetization and neutron diffraction measurements have been made on grunerite, Fe7Si8O22(OH)2, a monoclinic double-chain silicate with Fe2+ octahedral bands. The mineral orders antiferromagnetically at 47K into a collinear structure with a second transition at 8K to a canted arrangement. The magnetic susceptibility follows a Curie-Weiss Law above 120K, with a paramagnetic Curie temeprature ?p=67K. Magnetization measurements below 47K indicate a spin-flop or metamagnetic transition in an applied field of about 12KOe. Powder neutron diffraction measurements between 8–45K reveal that all the Fe2+ spins within an octahedral band are ferromagnetically coupled parallel to the b axis, with each band antiferromagnetically coupled to neighboring bands. Below 8K Fe2+ spins at the M1 and M4 sites are canted away from the b axis, whereas those at the M2 and M3 sites are not significantly affected. The ordered Fe2+ moment on the M4 site is substantially lower than those on the other sites, most likely indicating strong covalency effects, i.e. considerable spin transfer to neighboring oxygen atoms.  相似文献

In the present study, the modified Sverjensky–Molling equation, derived from a linear-free energy relationship, is used to predict the Gibbs free energies of formation of crystalline phases of α-MOOH (with a goethite structure) and α-M2O3 (with a hematite structure) from the known thermodynamic properties of the corresponding aqueous trivalent cations (M3+). The modified equation is expressed as ΔG0f,MVX=aMVXΔG0n,M3++bMVX+βMVXγM3+, where the coefficients aMVX, bMVX, and βMVX characterize a particular structural family of MvX (M is a trivalent cation [M3+] and X represents the remainder of the composition of solid); γ3+ is the ionic radius of trivalent cations (M3+); ΔG0f,MVX is the standard Gibbs free energy of formation of MvX; and ΔG0n,M3+ is the non-solvation energy of trivalent cations (M3+). By fitting the equation to the known experimental thermodynamic data, the coefficients for the goethite family (α-MOOH) are aMVX=0.8838, bMVX=?424.4431 (kcal/mol), and βMVX=115 (kcal/mol.?), while the coefficients for the hematite family (α-M2O3) are aMVX=1.7468, bMVX=?814.9573 (kcal/mol), and βMVX=278 (kcal/mol.?). The constrained relationship can be used to predict the standard Gibbs free energies of formation of crystalline phases and fictive phases (i.e. phases that are thermodynamically unstable and do not occur at standard conditions) within the isostructural families of goethite (α-MOOH) and hematite (α-M2O3) if the standard Gibbs free energies of formation of the trivalent cations are known.  相似文献

OH in zoned amphiboles of eclogite from the western Tianshan,NW-China   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Chemically-zoned amphibole porphyroblast grains in an eclogite (sample ws24-7) from the western Tianshan (NW-China) have been analyzed by electron microprobe (EMP), micro Fourier-transform infrared (micro-FTIR) and micro-Raman spectroscopy in the OH-stretching region. The EMP data reveal zoned amphibole compositions clustering around two predominant compositions: a glaucophane end-member ( B Na2 C M2+ 3 M3+ 2 T Si8(OH)2) in the cores, whereas the mantle to rim of the samples has an intermediate amphibole composition ( A 0.5 B Ca1.5Na0.5 C M 2+ 4.5 M 0.53+ T Si7.5Al0.5(OH)2) (A = Na and/or K; M 2+ = Mg and Fe2+; M 3+ = Fe3+ and/or Al) between winchite (and ferro-winchite) and katophorite (and Mg-katophorite). Furthermore, we observed complicated FTIR and Raman spectra with OH-stretching absorption bands varying systematically from core to rim. The FTIR/Raman spectra of the core amphibole show three lower-frequency components (at 3,633, 3,649–3,651 and 3,660–3,663 cm−1) which can be attributed to a local O(3)-H dipole surrounded by M(1) M(3)Mg3, M(1) M(3)Mg2Fe2+ and M(1) M(3) Fe2+ 3, respectively, an empty A site and T Si8 environments. On the other hand, bands at higher frequencies (3,672–3,673, 3,691–3,697 and 3,708 cm−1) are observable in the rims of the amphiboles, and they indicate the presence of an occupied A site. The FTIR and Raman data from the OH-stretching region allow us to calculate the site occupancy of the A, M(1)–M(3), T sites with confidence when combined with EPM data. By contrast M(2)- and M(4) site occupancies are more difficult to evaluate. We use these samples to highlight on the opportunities and limitations of FTIR OH-stretching spectroscopy applied to natural high pressure amphibole phases. The much more detailed cation site occupancy of the zoned amphibole from the western Tianshan have been obtained by comparing data from micro-chemical and FTIR and/or Raman in the OH-stretching data. We find the following characteristic substitutions Si(T-site) (Mg, Fe)[M(1)–M(3)-site] → Al(T-site) Al[M(1)–M(3)-site] (tschermakite), Ca(M4-site)□ (A-site) → Na(M4-site) Na + K(A-site) (richterite), and Ca(M4-site) (Mg, Fe) [M(1)–M(3)-site] → Na(M4-site) Al[M(1)–M(3)-site] (glaucophane) from the configurations observed during metamorphism.  相似文献

Overprinting of white micas from high pressure, low to medium temperature (M 1) metamorphic assemblages in pelitic schists on Naxos during subsequent thermal dome (M 2) metamorphism ranges from minor in the southeast of the island to complete recrystallization in the amphibolite facies rocks near the migmatites in the centre of the dome. The original (M 1) minerals are phengites (Si4+=6.7–7.0) and the overprinting minerals are muscovites (Si4+=6.0–6.45). 40Ar/39Ar step heating analyses of white mica separates from rocks in the area where phengite and muscovite occur together yield complex age spectra, characterized by low apparent ages in the first and the last stages of gas release and high apparent ages in between. These upward-convex age spectra are shown to be caused by mixing of two generations of micas, each of which has a different age spectrum and argon release pattern. Seemingly good plateaus in some age spectra from white micas of the area must be interpreted as providing meaningless intermediate ages. Further, the upward-convex age spectra have been used to trace the isotopic signature of phengites toward increasing M 2 metamorphic grade, and suggest that as long as phengites can be observed in the rocks upward-convex age spectra occur. On Naxos, crystallization of muscovite at the expense of phengite appears to be the main mechanism of resetting argon isotopic ages in white micas. However, there is also good evidence for argon loss by volume diffusion from phengites. Simple diffusion calculations suggest that the M 2 metamorphism was caused by a shortlived heat source. Now at Department of Geology, University of Alberta, Edmonton T6G 2E3, Canada  相似文献

The occurrence of Cr-Al pairs in Mg2SiO4 has been detected by EPR spectroscopy. In the case where Cr3+ replaces Mg at the M2 position three different neighboring Si sites may be substituted by Al3+, which should yield different superhyperfine interactions. A new spectrum is presented which shows the presence of two of these possible pair configurations. An assignment of the spectral features to a specific Cr-Al pair with Cr at M2 from the experimental data alone was not possible, therefore, MSX α cluster calculations have been performed from which the differences in the superhyperfine interaction for the various pair configurations could be obtained. Best agreement with the data of the Cr3+(M2)-Al pair exhibiting the most intense group of lines in the EPR spectrum was obtained for the situation where Al3+ is at the Si position with the shortest distance to M2. The second observed Cr3+(M2)-Al pair, which is significantly weaker in intensity, could not yet be assigned.  相似文献

X-ray structure determinations of Langbeinite type K2(Cd1-xCox)2(SO4)3, x≅0.02 at three temperatures (440, 540 and 640 K) above the P2 13-P2 12121 transition temperature (434 K) reveal that the M 2+ (M 2+=Cd) ion is displaced from the centre of the octahedron at all temperatures in the cubic phase. Simultaneously the distortion of the oxygen framework decreases with increasing temperature. The structural phase transition occurs when the bond lengths of the six bonds in each of the M 2+ octahedra are all equal, and it is proposed that this equalisation of bond lengths acts as the trigger for the phase transition. The structural deformation of the oxygen sublattice is such that rather regular octahedra around Cd occur at very high temperatures with Cd displaced from the centre. With decreasing temperature the octahedra distort under conservation of the triad, such that the differences between the various bond lengths Cd-O decrease. The phase transition occurs when all bond lengths around the Cd position become equal. The behaviour of the oxygen framework and the offcentring of the Cd/Co atom combine to produce an increasing distortion with increasing temperature as viewed by the central atom. Thus the interpretation of Optical Spectra, in which an increase in line splitting with temperature was observed, as being due to the off-centring of the Co, is confirmed.  相似文献

Biotites from mafic rocks occurring at different stratigraphic levels of the Ivrea-Verbano Mafic Complex are studied. The rocks are gabbros and diorites. All the biotites are intermediate between phlogopite and annite [0.282 (up to 7.14 and 9.32 wt%, respectively) with respect to those of the diorites (up to 1.26 and 6.26 wt%, respectively). Systematic compositional variations support the substitution model 2 IV Si+( IV R2+)2 IV Al+ VI Ti (R2+=Fe+Mg+Mn) in gabbros and IV Si+ VI Al IV Al+ VI Ti in diorites. A predominance of disordered stacking sequences, coexisting with 1M, 2M 1 and 3T polytypes was observed in all biotites. It was possible to carry out structural refinements only on three biotites-2M 1 from diorites (R-values between 2.68 and 3.77) and one biotite-1M from gabbros (R-value=3.09). It was shown that: (1) the reduced thickness of the tetrahedral sheet in Ba-rich biotites supports the coupled substitution IV Si+ XII K IV Al+ XII Ba; (2) the interlayer site geometry is affected by the whole layer chemistry and does not reflect only local chemical variations; (3) in two samples of the 2M 1 polytype, the M(1) octahedral site is larger and more distorted than the M(2) sites because of the preferential ordering of Fe2+ in the M(1) site, whereas one sample shows complete cation disorder in the octahedral sites. Biotite-1M shows that Fe2+ can also be located in the M(2) site. Some of the differences between the biotites of gabbros and diorites (e.g. Ba concentration and exchange vectors) may be linked to the host rock composition and to its crystallization process. Biotite occurs in trace amounts in gabbros and its crystallization is related to the interstitial melt which contributed to the adcumulus growth of the main rock forming phases and became highly enriched in K, Ba and Ti. Diorites are the result of equilibrium crystallization of a residual melt rich in incompatible elements, where biotite is a major constituent.  相似文献

Strong tectonic earthquakes within the crust always occur on already existing faults, and they have the property of a shear rupture. Such earthquakes with surface-wave magnitudes M < 7 obviously have a geometric similarity. Because of this similarity and the validity of the Gutenberg and Richter's energy—magnitude relation, the expression M = 2 log10 L + const., with L = focal length, is valid. The expression LmaxL* for the maximum focal length, is also valid if L* is the length of the rectilinear extent of the seismic line on which the maximum earthquake occurs. The bounds of L* may be given by sharp bends and/or by traversing deep faults. Thus the maximum imaginable earthquake on a seismic line with the length L* has the magnitude Mmax = 2 log10 L* + const. For the investigated region — the Alps and adjacent areas — from the data of recent and historical strong earthquakes, it follows that Mmax = 2 log10 L* + 1.7, if L* is measured in kilometres. These limiting values lie in the centre-field of the magnitude range for maximum earthquakes, published by Shebalin in 1970. By the aid of this equation it is also possible to assess the upper limiting value of the accompanying maximum scale intensity.  相似文献

The assignment of spin-allowed Fe2+-bands in orthopyroxene electronic absorption spectra is revised by studying synthetic bronzite (Mg0.8 Fe0.2)2Si2O6, hypersthene (Mg0.5 Fe0.5)2Si2O6 and ferrosilite (Fe2Si2O6). Reheating of bronzite and hypersthene single crystals causes a redistribution of the Fe2+-ions over the M1 and M2 octahedra, which was determined by Mössbauer spectroscopy and correlated to the intensity change of the spin-allowed Fe2+ d-d bands in the polarized absorption spectra. The 11000 cm-1 band is caused by Fe2+ in M1 (5B2g5A1g) and Fe2+ in M2 (5A15A1), the 8500 cm-1 band by Fe2+ in M1 (5B2g5B1g) and the 5000 cm-1 band by Fe2+ in M2 octahedra (5A15B1). The Fe2+-Fe3+ charge transfer band is identified at 12500cm-1 in the spectra of synthetic Fe3+ -Al bearing ferrosilite. This band shows a strong γ-polarization and therefore is caused by Fe2+ -Fe3+-ions in edge-sharing octahedra.  相似文献

Prograde P–T–t paths of eclogites are often ambiguous owing to high variance of mineral assemblages, large uncertainty in isotopic age determinations and/or variable degree of retrograde equilibration. We investigated these issues using the barroisite eclogites from the Lanterman Range, northern Victoria Land, Antarctica, which are relatively uncommon but free of retrogression. These eclogites revealed three stages of prograde metamorphism, defining two distinctive P–T trajectories, M1–2 and M3. Inclusion minerals in garnet porphyroblasts suggest that initial prograde assemblages (M1) consist of garnet+omphacite+barroisite/Mg‐pargasite+epidote+phengite+paragonite+rutile/titanite+quartz, and subsequent M2 assemblages of garnet+omphacite+barroisite+phengite+rutile±quartz. The inclusion‐rich inner part of garnet porphyroblasts preserves a bell‐shaped Mn profile of the M1, whereas the inclusion‐poor outer part (M2) is typified by the outward decrease in Ca/Mg and XFe (=Fe2+/(Fe2++Mg)) values. A pseudosection modelling employing fractionated bulk‐rock composition suggests that the eclogites have initially evolved from ~15 to 20 kbar and 520–570°C (M1) to ~22–25 kbar and 630–650°C (M2). The latter is in accordance with P–T conditions estimated from two independent geothermobarometers: the garnet–clinopyroxene–phengite (~25 ± 3 kbar and 660 ± 100°C) and Zr‐in‐rutile (~650–700°C at 2227 kbar). The second segment (M3A–B) of prograde P–T path is recorded in the grossular‐rich overgrowth rim of garnet. Apart from disequilibrium growth of the M3A garnet, ubiquitous overgrowth of the M3B garnet permits us to estimate the P–T conditions at ~26 ± 3 kbar and 720 ± 80°C. The cathodoluminescence (CL) imaging of zircon grains separated from a barroisite eclogite revealed three distinct zones with bright rim, dark mantle and moderately dark core. Eclogitic phases such as garnet, omphacite, epidote and rutile are present as fine‐grained inclusions in the mantle and rim of zircon, in contrast to their absence in the core. The sensitive high‐resolution ion microprobe U–Pb dating on metamorphic mantle domains and neoblasts yielded a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 515 ± 4 Ma (), representing the time of the M2 stage. On the other hand, overgrowth rims as well as bright‐CL neoblasts of zircon were dated at 498 ± 11 Ma (), corresponding to the M3. Average burial rates estimated from the M2 and M3 ages are too low (<2 mm/year) for cold subduction regime (~5–10°C/km), suggesting that an exhumation stage intervened between two prograde segments of P–T path. Thus, the P–T–t evolution of barroisite eclogites is typified by two discrete episodes with an c. 15 Ma gap during the middle Cambrian subduction of the Antarctic Ross Orogeny.  相似文献

Existing data on the temperature and composition dependence of the Fe2+-Mg2+ distribution between Fe-Mg olivine and orthopyroxene, the intra-crystalline distribution of Fe2+ and Mg2+ between M1 and M2 sites in orthopyroxene, and macroscopic activity-composition relations in olivine and orthopyroxene are shown to be inconsistent with generally accepted thermodynamic formulations which assume that the non-configurational Gibbs energy of orthopyroxene is independent of the degree of long-range ordering of Fe2+ and Mg+ between M1 and M2 sites. These data are interpreted in terms of the constraints they provide on the size of Bragg-Williams type energy, entropy, and volume terms for olivine and orthopyroxene. The apparent equilibrium constant for Fe-Mg exchange between olivine and orthopyroxene is shown to be a potentially useful ‘geothermometer’ for olivine-orthopyroxene assemblages with olivines with mole fraction of Fe2SiO4 component less than 0.2 or greater than 0.6. A provisional calibration of this ‘geothermometer’ is presented.  相似文献

The phreatic activity and the subsequent dacitic dome growth in 1998–1999 at Guagua Pichincha volcano, Ecuador, were associated with two seismic swarms: one located in the northern part of Quito (population: 1,500,000) and another one, just below the active volcano, about 15–20 km SW from the first one. Quito swarm tectonic events have high frequencies (from 1 to 10–15 Hz). We registered more than 3200 events (among which 2354 events of 1.4≤ML≤4.2) between June 1998 and December 1999 at the −2- and −17-km depth. The volcanic events below the Guagua Pichincha caldera have high (from 1 to 10–15 Hz) and low (less than 3 Hz) frequencies. Approximately, 130,000 events were registered between September 1998 and December 1999 at the +2.4- and −3.5-km depth. Here, we study the stress tensors of these two swarms deduced from the polarities of P first motions and compare them to the regional stress tensor deduced from CMT Harvard focal mechanisms. The Quito swarm stress tensor is relatively close to the regional stress tensor (the σ1 axis was oriented N117°E close to the N102°E direction of the plate motion found by the GPS measurement, and σ3 is nearly vertical). The difference may be due to the action of the closely active Guagua Pichincha volcano. The Guagua Pichincha stress tensor is very different from the regional tectonic one. The σ1 axis of the volcano is oriented N214°E, almost perpendicular to the σ1 of the swarm of Quito and σ3 is almost horizontal. Even if these two tensors are different, they can be explained in a more general tectonic scheme. The almost horizontal direction of σ3 just below the volcano is compatible with an extensional horizontal direction that may be expected in the shallow extrados part of a compressional region and consistent with an opening of the top of the Guagua Pichincha volcano. The movement of the fluids (magma, gas and/or groundwater) produced by the closely active Guagua Pichincha volcano seems to have an influence in the acceleration of the generation of seismic events.  相似文献

Natural specimens of green gemological euclase (chemical formula BeAlSiO4(OH)) from Brazil were investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and optical absorption. In addition to iron-related EPR spectra, analyzed recently in blue and colorless euclase, chromium and vanadium-related EPR spectra were also detected in green euclase. Their role as color causing centers is discussed. The results indicate that Cr3+ ions substitute for Al3+ ions in the euclase structure. The EPR rotation patterns of Cr3+ with electron spin S = 3/2 were analyzed with monoclinic spin Hamiltonian leading to the parameters of g xx , g yy and g zz equal to 2.018, 2.001 and 1.956 and electronic fine structure parameters of D = −8.27 GHz and E = 1.11 GHz, respectively, with high asymmetry ratio E/D = 0.13. For the vanadium-related EPR spectra the situation is different. It is concluded that vanadium is incorporated as the vanadyl radical VO2+ with electron spin S = 1/2 with nearly axial spin Hamiltonian parameters gzz = 1.9447, g xx  = 1.9740 g yy  = 1.9669 and axial hyperfine interactions due to the nuclear spin I = 7/2 of the 51V isotope leading to A zz  = 502 MHz, A xx  = 150 MHz and A yy  = 163 MHz. The green color of euclase is caused by two strong broad absorption bands centered at 17,185 and 24,345 cm−1 which are attributed to the 4A2g4T2g, 4T1g transitions of Cr3+, respectively. Vanadyl radicals may introduce some absorption bands centered in the near infrared with tail extending into the visible spectral range.  相似文献
