The critical inclination is of special interest in artificial satellite theory. The critical inclination can maintain minimal deviations of eccentricity and argument of pericentre from the initial values, and orbits at this inclination have been applied to some space missions. Most previous researches about the critical inclination were made under the assumption that the oblateness term J 2 is dominant among the harmonic coefficients. This paper investigates the extension of the critical inclination where the concept of the critical inclination is different from that of the traditional sense. First, the study takes the case of Venus for instance, and provides some preliminary results. Then for general cases, given the values of argument of pericentre and eccentricity, the relationship between the multiplicity of the solutions for the critical inclination and the values of J 2 and J 4 is analyzed. Besides, when given certain values of J 2 and J 4, the relationship between the multiplicity of the solutions for the critical inclination and the values of semimajor axis and eccentricity is studied. The results show that for some cases, the value of the critical inclination is far away from that of the traditional sense or even has multiple solutions. The analysis in this paper could be used as starters of correction methods in the full gravity field of celestial bodies.  相似文献

We study the effect of eccentricity and inclination on small amplitude librations around the equilibrium points L 4 and L 5 in the circular restricted three-body problem. We show that the effective libration centres can be displaced appreciably from the equilateral configuration. We say that a planet is Earth-like if the coefficient of the second order zonal harmonic dominates all other coefficients in the gravity field. This paper concerns the zonal problem for satellites around an Earth-like planet, all other perturbations excluded. The potential contains all zonal coefficientsJ 2 throughJ 9. The model problem is averaged over the mean anomaly by a Lie transformation to the second order; we produce the resulting Hamiltonian as a Fourier series in the argument of perigee whose coefficients are algebraic functions of the eccentricity — not truncated power series. We then proceed to a global exploration of the equilibria in the averaged problem. These singularities which aerospace engineers know by the name of frozen orbits are located by solving the equilibria equations in two ways, (1) analytically in the neighborhood of either the zero eccentricity or the critical inclination, and (2) numerically by a Newton-Raphson iteration applied to an approximate position read from the color map of the phase flow. The analytical solutions we supply in full to assist space engineers in designing survey missions. We pay special attention to the manner in which additional zonal coefficients affect the evolution of bifurcations we had traced earlier in the main problem (J 2 only). In particular, we examine the manner in which the odd zonalJ 3 breaks the discrete symmetry inherent to the even zonal problem. In the even case, we find that Vinti's problem (J 4+J 2 2 =0) presents a degeneracy in the form of non-isolated equilibria; we surmise that the degeneracy is a reflection of the fact that Vinti's problem is separable. By numerical continuation we have discovered three families of frozen orbits in the full zonal problem under consideration; (1) a family of stable equilibria starting from the equatorial plane and tending to the critical inclination; (2) an unstable family arising from the bifurcation at the critical inclination; (3) a stable family also arising from that bifurcation and terminating with a polar orbit. Except in the neighborhood of the critical inclination, orbits in the stable families have very small eccentricities, and are thus well suited for survey missions.  相似文献

We study the problem of critical inclination orbits for artificial lunar satellites, when in the lunar potential we include, besides the Keplerian term, the J 2 and C 22 terms and lunar rotation. We show that, at the fixed points of the 1-D averaged Hamiltonian, the inclination and the argument of pericenter do not remain both constant at the same time, as is the case when only the J 2 term is taken into account. Instead, there exist quasi-critical solutions, for which the argument of pericenter librates around a constant value. These solutions are represented by smooth curves in phase space, which determine the dependence of the quasi-critical inclination on the initial nodal phase. The amplitude of libration of both argument of pericenter and inclination would be quite large for a non-rotating Moon, but is reduced to <0°.1 for both quantities, when a uniform rotation of the Moon is taken into account. The values of J 2, C 22 and the rotation rate strongly affect the quasi-critical inclination and the libration amplitude of the argument of pericenter. Examples for other celestial bodies are given, showing the dependence of the results on J 2, C 22 and rotation rate.  相似文献

Analytical theory for short-term orbit motion of satellite orbits with Earth's zonal harmonicsJ 3 andJ 4 is developed in terms of KS elements. Due to symmetry in KS element equations, only two of the nine equations are integrated analytically. The series expansions include terms of third power in the eccentricity. Numerical studies with two test cases reveal that orbital elements obtained from the analytical expressions match quite well with numerically integrated values during a revolution. Typically for an orbit with perigee height, eccentricity and inclination of 421.9 km, 0.17524 and 30 degrees, respectively, maximum differences of 27 and 25 cm in semimajor axis computation are noted withJ 3 andJ 4 term during a revolution. For application purposes, the analytical solutions can be used for accurate onboard computation of state vector in navigation and guidance packages.  相似文献

An analytic method is presented to establish J 2 invariant relative orbits. Working with mean orbit elements, the secular drift of the longitude of the ascending node and the sum of the argument of perigee and mean anomaly are set equal between two neighboring orbits. By having both orbits drift at equal angular rates on the average, they will not separate over time due to the J2 influence. Two first order conditions are established between the differences in momenta elements (semi-major axis, eccentricity and inclination angle) that guarantee that the drift rates of two neighboring orbits are equal on the average. Differences in the longitude of the ascending node, argument of perigee and initial mean anomaly can be set at will, as long as they are setup in mean element space. For near polar orbits, enforcing both momenta element constraints may result in impractically large relative orbits. It this case it is shown that dropping the equal ascending node rate requirement still avoids considerable relative orbit drift and provides substantial fuel savings.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The behaviour of the argument of the pericentre is investigated for the orbit of an artificial satellite which is moving under the potential when the inclination of the orbit is close to thecritical value tan?1 2. The theory is developed to first order and it is applicable to all values of the eccentricity, with the exception of those in the neighbourhood of zero and unity. Four principal types of behaviour are noted and these are illustrated in appropriate phase-plane diagrams. It is shown that the two types which exhibit double libration in the argument of the pericentre are restricted to a relatively small domain in the (a, e)-plane of possible motions. Moreover, it is demonstrated that for double libration to occur it is necessary, but not sufficient, that \(e > \sqrt 6/13\) . The ranges of values of the inclination for which libration of the pericentre is a possibility are given for the more important cases. The general results are applied to the specific case of artificial Earth satellites whose orbits are inclined to the equator at angles close to the value of the critical inclination.  相似文献

In a previous paper, we developed a technique for estimating the inner eccentricity in coplanar hierarchical triple systems on initially circular orbits, with comparable masses and with well-separated components, based on an expansion of the rate of change of the Runge-Lenz vector. Now, the same technique is extended to non-coplanar orbits. However, it can only be applied to systems with I 0 < 39.23° or I 0 > 140.77°, where I is the inclination of the two orbits, because of complications arising from the so-called ‘Kozai effect’. The theoretical model is tested against results from numerical integrations of the full equations of motion. This paper analyses three types of artificial orbits around Mars pushed by continuous low-thrust control: artificial frozen orbits, artificial Sun-Synchronous orbits and artificial Sun-Synchronous frozen orbits. These artificial orbits have similar characteristics to natural frozen orbits and Sun-Synchronous orbits, and their orbital parameters can be selected arbitrarily by using continuous low-thrust control. One control strategy to achieve the artificial frozen orbit is using both the transverse and radial continuous low-thrust control, and another to achieve the artificial Sun-Synchronous orbit is using the normal continuous low-thrust control. These continuous low-thrust control strategies consider J 2, J 3, and J 4 perturbations of Mars. It is proved that both control strategies can minimize characteristic velocity. Relevant formulas are derived, and numerical results are presented. Given the same initial orbital parameters, the control acceleration and characteristic velocity taking into account J 2, J 3, and J 4 perturbations are similar to those taking into account J 2 perturbations for both Mars and the Earth. The control thrust of the orbit around Mars is smaller than that around the Earth. The magnitude of the control acceleration of ASFOM-4 (named as Artificial Sun-Synchronous Frozen Orbit Method 4) is the lowest among these strategies and the characteristic velocity within one orbital period is only 0.5219 m/s for the artificial Sun-Synchronous frozen orbit around Mars. It is evident that the relationship among the control thrusts and the primary orbital parameters of Martian artificial orbits is always similar to that of the Earth. Simulation shows that the control scheme extends the orbital parameters’ selection range of three types of orbits around Mars, compared with the natural frozen orbit and Sun-Synchronous orbit.  相似文献

We hereby study the stability of a massless probe orbiting around an oblate central body (planet or planetary satellite) perturbed by a third body, assumed to lay in the equatorial plane (Sun or Jupiter for example) using a Hamiltonian formalism. We are able to determine, in the parameters space, the location of the frozen orbits, namely orbits whose orbital elements remain constant on average, to characterize their stability/unstability and to compute the periods of the equilibria. The proposed theory is general enough, to be applied to a wide range of probes around planet or natural planetary satellites. The BepiColombo mission is used to motivate our analysis and to provide specific numerical data to check our analytical results. Finally, we also bring to the light that the coefficient J 2 is able to protect against the increasing of the eccentricity due to the Kozai-Lidov effect and the coefficient J 3 determines a shift of the equilibria.  相似文献

The orbits of real asteroids around the Lagrangian points L4 and L 5of Jupiter with large inclinations (i > 20°) were integrated for 50 Myrs. We investigated the stability with the aid of the Lyapunov characteristic exponents (LCE) but tested also two other methods: on one hand we integrated four neighbouring orbits for each asteroid and computed the maximum distance in every group, on the other hand we checked the variation of the Delaunay element H of the asteroid. In a second simulation – for a grid of initial eccentricity versus initial inclination – we examined the stability of the orbits around both Lagrangian points for 20° < i < 55° and 0.0 < e < 0.20. For the initial semimajor axes we have chosen the one ofJupiter(a = 5.202 AU). We determined the stability with the aid of the LCEs and also the maximum eccentricity of the orbits during the whole integration time. The region around L4 turned out to be unstable for large inclinations and eccentricities (i > 55° and e > 0.12). The stable region shrinks for orbits around L5: we found that they become unstable already for i > 45° and e > 0.10. We interpret it as a first hint why we observe more Trojans around the leading Lagrangian point. The results confirm the stability behaviour of the real Trojans which we computed in the first part of the paper.  相似文献

The order of magnitude of the error is investigated for a first-order von Zeipel theory of satellite orbits in an axisymmetric force field, i.e., first-order long period and short-period effects are included along with second order secular rates. The treatment is valid for zero eccentricity and/or inclination. In the case where initial position and velocity vectors are known, the in-track position error over time intervals of order 1/J 2 is kept at 0(J 2 2), like the other position errors and velocity errors, by calibration of the mean motion with the aid of the energy integral. The results are specifically applicable to accuracy comparisons of the Brouwer orbit prediction method with numerical integration. A modified calibration is presented for the general asymmetric force field which includes tesseral harmonics.  相似文献

Analytical solutions using KS elements are derived. The perturbation considered is the Earth's zonal harmonic J 2. The series expansions include terms of fourth power in the eccentricity. Only two of the nine KS element equations are integrated analytically due to the reasons of symmetry. The analytical solution is suitable for short-term orbit computations. Numerical studies show that reasonably good estimates of the orbital elements can be obtained in one step of 10 to 30 degrees of eccentric anomaly for near-Earth orbits of moderate eccentricity. For application purposes, the analytical solution can be effectively used for onboard computation in the navigation and guidance packages, where the modelling of J 2 effect becomes necessary.  相似文献

A first-order, semi-analytical method for the long-term motion of resonant satellites is introduced. The method provides long-term solutions, valid for nearly all eccentricities and inclinations, and for all commensurability ratios. The method allows the inclusion of all zonal and tesseral harmonics of a nonspherical planet.We present here an application of the method to a synchronous satellite includingonly theJ 2 andJ 22 harmonics. Global, long-term solutions for this problem are given for arbitrary values of eccentricity, argument of perigee and inclination.  相似文献

In a previous work we studied the effects of (I) the J 2 and C 22 terms of the lunar potential and (II) the rotation of the primary on the critical inclination orbits of artificial satellites. Here, we show that, when 3rd-degree gravity harmonics are taken into account, the long-term orbital behavior and stability are strongly affected, especially for a non-rotating central body, where chaotic or collision orbits dominate the phase space. In the rotating case these phenomena are strongly weakened and the motion is mostly regular. When the averaged effect of the Earth’s perturbation is added, chaotic regions appear again for some inclination ranges. These are more important for higher values of semi-major axes. We compute the main families of periodic orbits, which are shown to emanate from the ‘frozen eccentricity’ and ‘critical inclination’ solutions of the axisymmetric problem (‘J 2 + J 3’). Although the geometrical properties of the orbits are not preserved, we find that the variations in e, I and g can be quite small, so that they can be of practical importance to mission planning.  相似文献

In the analytical approach to the main problem in satellite theory, the consideration of the physical parameters imposes a lower bound for normalized Hamiltonian. We show that there is no elliptic frozen orbits, at critical inclination, when we consider small values of H, the third component of the angular momentum. The argument used suggests that it might be applied also to more realistic zonal and tesseral models. Moreover, for almost polar orbits, when H may be taken as another small parameter, a different approach that will simplify the ephemerides generators is proposed.  相似文献

Orbits around Mercury are influenced by the strong elliptic third-body perturbation, especially for high eccentricity orbits, the periapsis altitude changes dramatically. Frozen orbits whose mean eccentricity and argument of perigee remain constants are obviously a good choice for space missions, but the forming conditions are too harsh to meet practical needs. To deal with this problem, a continuous control method that combines analytical theory and parameter optimization is proposed to build an artificial frozen orbit. The artificial frozen orbits are investigated on the basis of double averaged Hamiltonian, of which the second and third zonal harmonics and the perturbation of elliptic third-body gravity are considered. In this paper, coefficients of perturbations which satisfy the conditions of frozen orbits are involved as control parameters, and the relevant artificial perturbations are compensated by the control strategy. So probes around Mercury can be kept on frozen orbit under the influence of continuous control force. Then complex method of optimization is used to search for the energy optimized artificial frozen orbits. The choosing of optimal parameters, the objective function setting and other issues are also discussed in the study. Evolution of optimal control parameters are given in large ranges of semi-major axis and eccentricity, through the variation of these curves, the fuel efficiency is discussed. The result shows that the control method proposed in this paper can effectively maintain the eccentricity and argument of perigee frozen.  相似文献

We report results from long term numerical integrations and analytical studies of particular orbits in the circular restricted three-body problem. These are mostly high-inclination trajectories in 1 : 1 resonance starting at or near the triangular Lagrangian L5 point. In some intervals of inclination these orbits have short Lyapunov times, from 100 to a few hundred periods, yet the osculating semi-major axis shows only relatively small fluctuations and there are no escapes from the 1 : 1 resonance. The eccentricity of these chaotic orbits varies in an erratic manner, some of the orbits becoming temporarily almost rectilinear. Similarly the inclination experiences large variations due to the conservation of the Jacobi constant. We studied such orbits for up to 109 periods in two cases and for 106 periods in all others, for inclinations varying from 0° to 180°. Thus our integrations extend from thousands to 10 million Lyapunov times without escapes of the massless particle. Since there are no zero-velocity curves restricting the motion this opens questions concerning the reason for the persistence of the 1 : 1 resonant motion. In the theory sections we consider the mechanism responsible for the observed behavior. We derive the averaged 1 : 1 resonance disturbing function, to second order in eccentricity, to calculate a critical inclination found in the numerical experiment, and examine motion close to this inclination. The cause of the chaos observed in the numerical experiments appears to be the emergence of saddle points in the averaged disturbing potential. We determine the location of several such saddle points in the (, ) plane, with being the mean longitude difference and the argument of pericentre. Some of the saddle points are illustrated with the aid of contour plots of the disturbing function. Motion close to these saddles is sensitive to initial conditions, thus causing chaos.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The odd zonal harmonics in the geopotential are the terms independent of longitude and antisymmetric about the Equator: they define the ‘pear-shape’ effect. The coeffecients J3, J5, J7,…of these harmonics have been evaluated by analysing the variations in eccentricity of 27 orbits covering wide range of inclinations. We use again most of the orbits from our previous (1969) evaluations, but we now have the advantage of 3 accurate orbits at inclinations between 60° and 66°, where the variations in eccentricity become very large, and 3 near-equatorial orbits, at inclinations between 3° and 15°, whereas previously there were none at inclinations lower than 28°. The new data lead to much more accurate and reliable values for the coeffecients. Our recommended set, which terminates at J17, is
