We present an investigation of line-of-sight (LOS) velocity oscillations in solar faculae and sunspots. To study the phase relations between chromospheric and photospheric oscillations of the LOS velocity, we measured the time lag of the chromospheric signal relative to the photospheric one for several faculae and sunspots in a set of spectral line pairs. The measured time lags are different for different objects. The mean measured delay between the oscillations in the five-minute band in faculae is 50?s for the Si?i 10?827?Å?–?He?i 10?830?Å pair; for the pair Fe?i 6569?Å?–?Hα 6563?Å the mean delay is 20?s; for the pair Fe?i 4551?Å?–?Ba?ii 4554?Å the mean delay is 7?s; for the pair Si?i 8536?Å?–?Ca?ii 8542?Å the mean delay is 20?s. For the oscillations in the three-minute band in sunspot umbrae the mean delay is 55?s for the Si?i 10?827?Å?–?He?i 10?830?Å pair; for the Fe?i 6569?Å?–?Hα 6563?Å pair it was not possible to determine the delay; for the Fe?i 4551?Å?–?Ba?ii 4554?Å pair the mean delay is 6?s; for the Si?i 8536?Å?–?Ca?ii 8542?Å pair the mean delay is 21?s. Measured delays correspond to the wave propagation speed, which significantly exceeds the generally adopted speed of sound in the photosphere. This raises the question of the origin of these oscillations. The possibility that we deal with slow MHD waves is not ruled out.  相似文献

The local time dependent effects of geomagnetic storm on the ionospheric TEC and Rate of change of TEC Index (ROTI) are studied here using the GPS data for four different low latitude stations: Ogaswara, Japan (24.29?°N, 153.91?°E; Geomagnetic: 17.21?°N, 136.16?°W); Surat, India (21.16?°N, 72.78?°E; Geomagnetic: 12.88?°N, 146.91?°E); Bogota, Colombia (4.64?°N, ?74.09?°E; Geomagnetic: 14.42?°N, 1.67?°W); and Kokee park Waimea, Hawaii, US (22.12?°N, ?159.67?°E; Geomagnetic: 22.13?°N, 91.19?°W). The solar wind velocity and geomagnetic indices: Dst, Kp and IMF Bz are utilized to validate the geomagnetic storms registered during the years 2011 and 2012. Using the GPS based TEC data and computed values of ROTI, the storm induced ionospheric irregularities generation and inhibition has been studied for all stations. The present study suggests that, the F-region irregularities of a scale length of few kilometers over the magnetic equator are locally affected by geomagnetic storms. This study also shows a good agreement (70–84 %) with the Aaron’s criteria (Aarons, Radio Sci., 26:1131–1149, 1991; Biktash, Ann. Geophys., 19:731–739, 2004) as significant absence and enhancement of ROTI was found to be influenced by the local time of the negative peak of Dst index association.  相似文献

We construct the maps of temperatures, geometrical thicknesses, electron densities and gas pressures in a quiescent prominence. For this we use the RGB signal of the prominence visible-light emission detected during the total solar eclipse of 1 August 2008 in Mongolia and quasi-simultaneous Hα spectra taken at Ond?ejov Observatory. The method of disentangling the electron density and geometrical (effective) thickness was described by Jej?i? and Heinzel (Solar Phys. 254, 89?–?100, 2009) and is used here for the first time to analyse the spatial variations of prominence parameters. For the studied prominence we obtained the following range of parameters: temperature 6000?–?15?000 K, effective thickness 200?–?15000 km, electron density 5×109?–?1011 cm?3 and gas pressure 0.02?–?0.2 dyn?cm?2 (assuming a fixed ionisation degree n p/n H=0.5). The electron density increases towards the bottom of the prominence, which we explain by an enhanced photoionisation due to the incident solar radiation. To confirm this, we construct a two-dimensional radiative-transfer model with realistic prominence illumination.  相似文献

Models of Saturn's rings based on the classical multilayer assumption have been studied in the infrared. Thermal energy balance of Saturn's rings is treated rigorously by solving the infrared radiative transfer equations. It was found that a homogeneous multilayer model is incompatible with the observed infrared brightness variation of the A and B rings, although it can fit that of the C ring. The alternative inhomogeneous multilayer model with dark particles within a bright haze of small icy particles is presented in order to satisfy the available infrared data of the A, B, and C rings. The results based on the inhomogeneous multilayer model may be summarized as follows: The observed infrared brightness data of the three rings are explained in terms of the different optical thickness without having significant differences in the ring-particle properties, such as albedo, spin rate, and sizes. But each ring contains a different amount of bright haze particles and their concentration within the rings depends on whether or not dark particles emit radiation mostly from one hemisphere (slow rotator and/or low thermal inertia). If a dark particle is an isothermal radiator, the possible ranges of A1 and A2 for all three rings are given by 0.9 ? A1 ? 0.95 and 0.0 ? A2 ? 0.15, where A1 and A2 are the bolometric bond albedos of a bright haze and a dark particle, respectively. The possible ranges of the optical thickness ratio X of the dark particle layer to the total ring layer for the rings A, B, and C are given by 0.65 ? X ? 0.75, 0.8 ? X ? 0.9, and 0.8 ? X ? 1.0, respectively. If a dark particle is a slow rotator, we obtain 0.9 ? A1 ? 0.95 and 0.0 ? A2 ? 0.4 for all three rings. The ranges of X for the rings A, B, and C are given by 0.35 ? X ? 0.7, 0.65 ? X ? 0.9, and 0.35 ? X ? 1.0, respectively. In this paper, for the first time, a consistent model is presented which is applicable to all three rings from the multilayer point of view.  相似文献

The dynamics of horizontal plasma flows during the first hours of the emergence of active region magnetic flux in the solar photosphere have been analyzed using SOHO/MDI data. Four active regions emerging near the solar limb have been considered. It has been found that extended regions of Doppler velocities with different signs are formed in the first hours of the magnetic flux emergence in the horizontal velocity field. The flows observed are directly connected with the emerging magnetic flux; they form at the beginning of the emergence of active regions and are present for a few hours. The Doppler velocities of flows observed increase gradually and reach their peak values 4?–?12 hours after the start of the magnetic flux emergence. The peak values of the mean (inside the ±?500 m?s?1 isolines) and maximum Doppler velocities are 800?–?970 m?s?1 and 1410?–?1700 m?s?1, respectively. The Doppler velocities observed substantially exceed the separation velocities of the photospheric magnetic flux outer boundaries. The asymmetry was detected between velocity structures of leading and following polarities. Doppler velocity structures located in a region of leading magnetic polarity are more powerful and exist longer than those in regions of following polarity. The Doppler velocity asymmetry between the velocity structures of opposite sign reaches its peak values soon after the emergence begins and then gradually drops within 7?–?12 hours. The peak values of asymmetry for the mean and maximal Doppler velocities reach 240?–?460 m?s?1 and 710?–?940 m?s?1, respectively. An interpretation of the observable flow of photospheric plasma is given.  相似文献

We have detected several periodicities in the solar equatorial rotation rate of sunspot groups in the catalog Greenwich Photoheliographic Results (GPR) during the period 1931?–?1976, the Solar Optical Observing Network (SOON) during the period 1977?–?2014, and the Debrecen Photoheliographic Data (DPD) during the period 1974?–?2014. We have compared the results from the fast Fourier transform (FFT), the maximum entropy method (MEM), and the Morlet wavelet power-spectra of the equatorial rotation rates determined from SOON and DPD sunspot-group data during the period 1986?–?2007 with those of the Mount Wilson Doppler-velocity data during the same period determined by Javaraiah et al. (Solar Phys. 257, 61, 2009). We have also compared the power-spectra computed from the DPD and the combined GPR and SOON sunspot-group data during the period 1974?–?2014 to those from the GPR sunspot-group data during the period 1931?–?1973. Our results suggest a ~?250-day period in the equatorial rotation rate determined from both the Mt. Wilson Doppler-velocity data and the sunspot-group data during 1986?–?2007. However, a wavelet analysis reveals that this periodicity appears mostly around 1991 in the velocity data, while it is present in most of the solar cycles covered by the sunspot-group data, mainly near the minimum epochs of the solar cycles. We also found the signature of a period of ~?1.4 years in the velocity data during 1990?–?1995, and in the equatorial rotation rate of sunspot groups mostly around the year 1956. The equatorial rotation rate of sunspot groups reveals a strong ~?1.6-year periodicity around 1933 and 1955, a weaker one around 1976, and a strong ~?1.8-year periodicity around 1943. Our analysis also suggests periodicities of ~?5 years, ~?7 years, and ~?17 years, as well as some other short-term periodicities. However, short-term periodicities are mostly present at the time of solar minima. Hence, short-term periodicities cannot be confirmed because of the larger uncertainty in the data.  相似文献

In cycle 23 for geomagnetic storms of ?Dst(min) >50 nT, the plot of ?Dst(min) versus ?Bz(min) for the low ?Bz(min) range 0–10 nT showed erratic variation in Dst(min), (correlation 0.19). Even for ?Bz(min) range 10–20 nT, ?Dst(min) values had considerable scatter (correlation 0.57). For ?Bz(min).>20 nT, the relationship was good (correlation 0.82). For the whole range ?Bz(min) 0–50 nT, the correlation was high (0.88). Thus, if ?Bz(min) is very large (~20 nT), large ?Dst(min) occurs but in a wide range of 100–500 nT.  相似文献

The differences between physical conditions in solar faculae and those in sunspots and quiet photosphere (increased temperature and different magnetic field topology) suggest that oscillation characteristics in facula areas may also have different properties. The analysis of 28 time series of simultaneous spectropolarimetric observations in facula photosphere (Fe?i 6569 Å, 8538 Å) and chromosphere (Hα, Ca?ii 8542 Å) yields the following results. The amplitude of five-minute oscillations of line-of-sight (LOS) velocity decreases by 20?–?40% in facula photosphere. There are only some cases revealing the inverse effect. The amplitude of four- to five-minute LOS velocity oscillations increases significantly in the chromosphere above faculae, and power spectra fairly often show pronounced peaks in a frequency range of 1.3?–?2.5 mHz. Evidence of propagating oscillations can be seen from space?–?time diagrams. We have found oscillations of the longitudinal magnetic field (1.5?–?2 mHz and 5.2 mHz) inside faculae.  相似文献

The globe of Saturn is brighter than previously reported as indicated by its absolute opposition magnitudes in the UBVRI band passes which are ?7.080, ?7.842, ?8.914, ?9.587 and ?9.606, respectively. The geometric albedo in V is 0.501 and it peaks in the R filter at 0.567. The brightest apparent magnitude of the system in the V-band is ?0.61 and the faintest is +1.31. The B–V color index can be as blue as +0.93 and as red at +1.12.  相似文献

Solar ?ares are important events for the space weather. The predic- tion of relevant parameters of solar ?ares has practical signi?cance for evaluating the effect of sudden ionospheric disturbance (SID). The data of soft X-ray ?ux observed by the GOES-8 satellite in the 23th solar cycle are used to predict the peak intensities and ending times of X-class ?ares with the method of data ?t- ting. Using this method to analyze the X-class ?ares in the 23th solar cycle, it is possible to predict the peak ?ux of an X-class ?are 17 minutes in advance at most. And the ending time of an X-class ?are may be predicted about 60 minutes in advance at most. The predicted results indicate that the prediction method has certain effectiveness and applicability.  相似文献

The Solar EUV Monitor (SEM) onboard SOHO has measured absolute extreme ultraviolet (EUV) and soft X-ray solar irradiance nearly continuously since January 1996. The EUV Variability Experiment (EVE) on SDO, in operation since April of 2010, measures solar irradiance in a wide spectral range that encompasses the band passes (26?–?34 nm and 0.1?–?50 nm) measured by SOHO/SEM. However, throughout the mission overlap, irradiance values from these two instruments have differed by more than the combined stated uncertainties of the measurements. In an effort to identify the sources of these differences and eliminate them, we investigate in this work the effect of reprocessing the SEM data using a more accurate SEM response function (obtained from synchrotron measurements with a SEM sounding-rocket clone instrument taken after SOHO was already in orbit) and time-dependent, measured solar spectral distributions – i.e., solar reference spectra that were unavailable prior to the launch of the SDO. We find that recalculating the SEM data with these improved parameters reduces mean differences with the EVE measurements from about 20 % to less than 5 % in the 26?–?34 nm band, and from about 35 % to about 15 % for irradiances in the 0.1?–?7 nm band extracted from the SEM 0.1?–?50 nm channel.  相似文献

An analysis of line-of-sight velocity oscillation in nine solar faculae was undertaken with the aim of studying phase relations between chromospheric (He?i 10830?Å line) and photospheric (Si?i 10827 Å line) five-minute oscillations. We found that the time lag of the chromospheric signal relative to photospheric one varies from ?12 to 100 seconds and is about 50 seconds on average. We assume that the small observed lag can have three possible explanations: i) convergence of formation levels of He?i 10830?Å and Si?i 10827?Å in faculae; ii) significant increase of five-minute oscillation propagation velocity above faculae; iii) simultaneous presence of standing and travelling waves.  相似文献

Based on the solar X-ray data in the band of 0.1??C?0.8?nm observed by Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES), the XUV and EUV data in the bands of 26??C?34?nm and 0.1??C?50?nm observed by the Solar EUV Monitor (SEM) onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), a statistical analysis on the excess peak flux (the pre-flare flux is subtracted) in two SEM bands during M- and X-class flares from 1998 to 2007 is given. The average ratio of the excess peak flux to the pre-flare flux for the M-class flares is 5.5?%±3.7?% and that for the X-class flares is 16?%±11?%. The excess peak fluxes in two SEM bands are positively correlated with the X-ray flare class; with the increase in the X-ray flare class, the excess peak flux in two SEM bands increases. However, a large dispersion in the excess peak flux in the SEM bands and their ratio is found for the same X-ray flare class. The relationship between the excess peak fluxes of the two SEM bands also shows large dispersion. It is considered that the diversity we found in the flare spectral irradiance is caused by many variable factors related to the structure and evolution of solar flares.  相似文献

We analyze in situ measurements of the solar wind velocity obtained by the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) and the Helios spacecraft during the years 1998?–?2012 and 1975?–?1983, respectively. The data mainly belong to solar cycles 23 (1996?–?2008) and 21 (1976?–?1986). We used the directed horizontal-visibility-graph (DHVg) algorithm and estimated a graph functional, namely, the degree distance (D), which is defined using the Kullback–Leibler divergence (KLD) to understand the time irreversibility of solar wind time-series. We estimated this degree-distance irreversibility parameter for these time-series at different phases of the solar activity cycle. The irreversibility parameter was first established for known dynamical data and was then applied to solar wind velocity time-series. It is observed that irreversibility in solar wind velocity fluctuations show a similar behavior at 0.3 AU (Helios data) and 1 AU (ACE data). Moreover, the fluctuations change over the phases of the activity cycle.  相似文献

An Estimate for the Size of Sunspot Cycle 24   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

For the sunspot cycles in the modern era (cycle?10 to the present), the ratio of R Z(max)/R Z(36th month) equals 1.26±0.22, where R Z(max) is the maximum amplitude of the sunspot cycle?using smoothed monthly mean sunspot number and R Z(36th month) is the smoothed monthly mean sunspot number 36 months after cycle?minimum. For the current sunspot cycle?24, the 36th month following the cycle?minimum occurred in November 2011, measuring?61.1. Hence, cycle?24 likely will have a maximum amplitude of about 77.0±13.4 (the one-sigma prediction interval), a value well below the average R Z(max) for the modern era sunspot cycles (about 119.7±39.5).  相似文献

We examine the sensitivity of selected Ba?ii, Fe?i, Fe?ii, and Cr?i spectral lines to changes of the line-of-sight velocity by sharpness of their line profiles and response functions to line-of-sight velocity evaluated by the 1-D model of the quiet solar atmosphere in the LTE approximation. The set of selected lines includes the Ba?ii 4554 Å line, generally considered to be an excellent Doppler mapper. Our findings confirm earlier results showing that the sensitivity increases not only with wavelength, as anticipated from the Doppler relation, but mainly with the sharpness of line profiles given by the ratio of their depths and widths. The line Fe?i 5247 Å is the most sensitive in our set, whereas the Fe?i and Fe?ii infrared lines show very low sensitivity because of their large thermal widths. The line Ba?ii 4554 Å shows only moderate sensitivity due to its large width, given by a broad hyperfine structure and isotopic split. For the first time we identify a very promising and so far unknown Doppler mapper of the solar photosphere and low chromosphere, which is the line Ba?ii 6497 Å. Its sensitivity is comparable with the sensitivity of Fe?i 5247 Å and clearly surpasses the sensitivity of Ba?ii 4554 Å. The line Ba?ii 6497 Å offers many advantages, making it a highly recommendable choice for future studies of line-of-sight velocities in the photosphere and low chromosphere.  相似文献

Measurements from the Mount Wilson Observatory (MWO) were used to study the long-term variations of sunspot field strengths from 1920 to 1958. Following a modified approach similar to that presented in Pevtsov et al. (Astrophys. J. Lett. 742, L36, 2011), we selected the sunspot with the strongest measured field strength for each observing week and computed monthly averages of these weekly maximum field strengths. The data show the solar cycle variation of the peak field strengths with an amplitude of about 500?–?700 gauss (G), but no statistically significant long-term trends. Next, we used the sunspot observations from the Royal Greenwich Observatory (RGO) to establish a relationship between the sunspot areas and the sunspot field strengths for cycles 15?–?19. This relationship was used to create a proxy of the peak magnetic field strength based on sunspot areas from the RGO and the USAF/NOAA network for the period from 1874 to early 2012. Over this interval, the magnetic field proxy shows a clear solar cycle variation with an amplitude of 500?–?700 G and a weaker long-term trend. From 1874 to around 1920, the mean value of magnetic field proxy increases by about 300?–?350 G, and, following a broad maximum in 1920?–?1960, it decreases by about 300 G. Using the proxy for the magnetic field strength as the reference, we scaled the MWO field measurements to the measurements of the magnetic fields in Pevtsov et al. (2011) to construct a combined data set of maximum sunspot field strengths extending from 1920 to early 2012. This combined data set shows strong solar cycle variations and no significant long-term trend (the linear fit to the data yields a slope of ??0.2±0.8 G?year?1). On the other hand, the peak sunspot field strengths observed at the minimum of the solar cycle show a gradual decline over the last three minima (corresponding to cycles 21?–?23) with a mean downward trend of ≈?15 G?year?1.  相似文献

This paper describes the wave-front correction system developed for the Sunrise balloon telescope, and it provides information about its in-flight performance. For the correction of low-order aberrations, a Correlating Wave-Front Sensor (CWS) was used. It consisted of a six-element Shack??C?Hartmann wave-front sensor (WFS), a fast tip-tilt mirror for the compensation of image motion, and an active telescope secondary mirror for focus correction. The CWS delivered a stabilized image with a precision of 0.04?arcsec (rms), whenever the coarse pointing was better than ???45?arcsec peak-to-peak. The automatic focus adjustment maintained a focus stability of 0.01?waves in the focal plane of the CWS. During the 5.5?day flight, good image quality and stability were achieved during 33?hours, containing 45?sequences, which lasted between 10 and 45?min.  相似文献

Decaying active region 10942 is investigated from 4:00?–?16:00 UT on 24 February 2007 using a suite of EUV observing instruments. Results from Hinode/EIS, STEREO and TRACE show that, although the active region has decayed and no sunspot is present, the physical mechanisms that produce distinguishable loop structures, spectral line broadening, and plasma flows still occur. A coronal loop that appears as a blue-shifted structure in Doppler maps is apparent in intensity images of log(T)=6.0?–?6.3 ions. The loop structure is found to be anti-correlated with spectral line broadening generally attributed to non-thermal velocities. This coronal loop structure is investigated physically (temperature, density, geometry) and temporally. Light curves created from imaging instruments show brightening and dimming of the loop structure on two different time scales; short pulses of 10?–?20?min and long duration dimming of two?–?four hours until its disappearance. The coronal loop structure, formed from relatively blue-shifted material that is anti-correlated with spectral line broadening, shows a density of 1010 to 109.3?cm?3 and is visible for longer than characteristic cooling times. The maximum non-thermal spectral line broadenings are found to be adjacent to the footpoint of the coronal loop structure.  相似文献

We processed magnetograms that were obtained with the Michaelson Doppler Imager onboard the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO/MDI). The results confirm the basic properties of long-period oscillations of sunspots that have previously been established and also reveal new properties. We show that the limiting (lowest) eigenmode of low-frequency oscillations of a sunspot as a whole is the mode with a period of 10?–?12 up to 32?–?35 hours (depending on the sunspot’s magnetic-field strength). This mode is observed consistently throughout an observation period of 5?–?7 days, but its amplitude is subject to quasi-cyclic changes, which are separated by about 1.5?–?2 days. As a result, the lower mode with a period of about 35?–?48 hours appears in the power spectrum of sunspot oscillations. But this lowest mode is apparently not an eigenmode of a sunspot because its period does not depend on the magnetic field of the sunspot. Perhaps the mode reflects the quasi-periodic sunspot perturbations caused by supergranulation cells that surround it. We also analyzed SOHO/MDI artifacts, which may affect the low-frequency power spectra of sunspots.  相似文献
