We present a catalogue of galaxy clusters detected in the Planck all-sky Compton parameter maps and identified using data from the WISE and SDSS surveys. The catalogue comprises about 3000 clusters in the SDSS fields. We expect the completeness of this catalogue to be high for clusters with masses larger than M 500 ≈ 3 × 1014 M , located at redshifts z < 0.7. At redshifts above z ≈ 0.4, the catalogue contains approximately an order of magnitude more clusters than the 2nd Planck Catalogue of Sunyaev-Zeldovich sources in the same fields of the sky. This catalogue can be used for identification of massive galaxy clusters in future large cluster surveys, such as the SRG/eROSITA all-sky X-ray survey.  相似文献

A sample of cataclysmic variables (CVs) detected among the X-ray sources of the 400 square degree (400d) survey performed based on ROSAT pointings is presented. A technique for selecting CVs among the X-ray sources using additional optical and infrared data, based on Sloan Digital Sky Survey andWISE data, is described. We present the optical observations of the selected objects carried out mainly with the Russian–Turkish 1.5-m telescope (RTT-150) and the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences (BTA). Some observations have also been performed with the 1.6-m AZT-33IK telescope of the Institute of Solar–Terrestrial Physics, the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Eight CVs, four of which were detected in our work, have been selected by now. Based on this sample, we have obtained preliminary constraints on the X-ray luminosity function of CVs in the solar neighborhood in the range of low luminosities, L X ~ 1029–1030 erg s?1 (0.5–2 keV). The logarithmic slope of the CV luminosity function in this luminosity range is shown to become gentler than that at L X > 1031 erg s?1. It follows from our estimates of the CV luminosity function that several thousand CVs will be detected in the SRG all-sky survey at high Galactic latitudes, which will allow much more accurate measurements of their X-ray luminosity function to be obtained.  相似文献

We report the results of a statistical analysis of the space distribution of galaxies of the 2MRS catalog, which contains redshifts of 43533 galaxies of the 2MASS all-sky IR survey. Because of the unique features of the 2MRS survey, such as its 90% sky coverage, galaxy selection in the IR, the complete incorporation of the old stellar population of galaxies, weakness of the dust extinction effects, and the smallness of the k- and e-corrections allowed us to determine the statistical properties of the global distribution of galaxies in the Local Universe. We took into account the main methodological factors that distort the theoretically expected relations compared to those actually observed. We construct the radial galaxy number counts N(R), SL(R, r) statistics, and the complete correlation function (conditional density) Γ(r) for volume-limited (VL) galaxy samples. The observed conditional density Γ(r) in the redshift space is independent of the luminosity of galaxies and has the form of a power-law function with exponent γ ≈ 1.0 over a large range scale-length spanning from 0.1 to 100 Mpc. We compare the statistical properties of the space distribution of galaxies of the 2MRS catalog with the corresponding properties of simulated catalogs: stochastic fractal distributions and galaxies of the Millennium catalog.  相似文献

Based on data from the Two-Micrometer All-Sky Survey (2MASS), we analyzed the infrared properties of 451 Local-Volume galaxies at distances D ≤ 10 Mpc. We determined the K-band luminosity function of the galaxies in the range of absolute magnitudes from ?25m to ?11m. The local luminosity density within 8 Mpc is 6.8 × 108L Mpc?3, a factor of 1.5 ± 0.1 higher than the global mean K-band luminosity density. We determined the ratios of the virial mass to the K-band luminosity for nearby groups and clusters of galaxies. In the luminosity range from 5 × 1010 to 2 × 1013L, the dependence log(M/LK) ∝ (0.27 ± 0.03) log LK with a dispersion of ~0.1 comparable to the measurement errors of the masses and luminosities of the systems of galaxies holds for the groups and clusters of galaxies. The ensemble-averaged ratio, 〈M/LK〉 ? (20–25) M/L, was found to be much smaller than the expected global ratio, (80–90)M/L, in the standard model with Ωm = 0.27. This discrepancy can be eliminated if the bulk of the dark matter in the Universe is not associated with galaxies and their systems.  相似文献

We measure the local galaxy far-infrared (FIR) 60 to 100 μm colour–luminosity distribution using an all-sky IRAS survey. This distribution is an important reference for the next generation of FIR–submillimetre surveys that have and will conduct deep extragalactic surveys at 250–500 μm. With the peak in dust-obscured star-forming activity leading to present-day giant ellipticals now believed to occur in submillimetre galaxies near   z ∼ 2.5  , these new FIR–submillimetre surveys will directly sample the spectral energy distributions of these distant objects at rest-frame FIR wavelengths similar to those at which local galaxies were observed by IRAS . We have taken care to correct for the temperature bias and the evolution effects in our IRAS 60-μm-selected sample. We verify that our colour–luminosity distribution is consistent with the measurements of the local FIR luminosity function, before applying it to the higher redshift Universe. We compare our colour–luminosity correlation with recent dust–temperature measurements of submillimetre galaxies and find evidence for pure luminosity evolution of the form  (1 + z )3  . This distribution will be useful for the development of evolutionary models for Balloon-borne Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope (BLAST) and Spectral and Photometric Imaging Receiver (SPIRE) surveys as it provides a statistical distribution of the rest-frame dust temperatures for galaxies as a function of luminosity.  相似文献

We present the results of our optical identifications of a set of X-ray sources from the INTEGRAL and SWIFT all-sky surveys. The optical data have been obtained with the 1.5-m Russian-Turkish Telescope (RTT-150). Nine X-ray sources have been identified with active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Two of them are located in the nearby spiral galaxies MCG-01-05-047 and NGC 973 seen almost edge-on. One source, IGR J16562-3301, is probably a BL Lac object (blazar). The remaining AGNs are observed as the starlike nuclei of spiral galaxies whose spectra exhibit broad emission lines. The relation between the hard X-ray (17–60 keV) luminosity and the [O III] 5007 line luminosity, log L x/L [O III] ≈ 2.1, holds good for most of the AGNs detected in hard X rays. However, the luminosities of some AGNs deviate from this relation. The fraction of such objects can reach ~20%. In particular, the [O III] line flux is lower for two nearby edge-on spiral galaxies. This can be explained by the effect of absorption in the galactic disks.  相似文献

The existence or otherwise of X-ray luminous star-forming galaxies has been an open question since the era of the Einstein satellite. Various authors have claimed the discovery of X-ray luminous star-forming galaxies but in many cases more careful spectroscopic studies of these objects have shown that many of them are in fact obscured AGN. In order to investigate the possibility that such a class of galaxies do exist, we have carried out a cross-correlation between optical and IRAS samples of galaxies which are known to contain large numbers of star-forming galaxies and catalogues of sources detected in X-ray surveys. The selection criteria for the optical follow-up observations was based on their X-ray and infrared (IRAS) colours and their X-ray luminosities. We note that this sample is by no means complete or uniformly selected and hence cannot be used for statistical studies; nevertheless, confirmation of the existence of such a class of objects would be an important step and would require us to understand the physical process responsible for such powerful X-ray emission. We have initiated an optical spectroscopic survey in order to obtain accurate spectroscopic classifications for all the objects which are claimed to be starburst galaxies. Here we present preliminary results from this survey. We have discovered a number of starburst galaxies with X-ray luminosities above ~ 1041 erg s-1 (for H 0=50 km s-1 Mpc-1).We investigate possible origins for the X-ray emission in individual cases.  相似文献

Based on archival Hubble Space Telescope images, we have performed stellar photometry for the galaxy M 101 and other neighboring galaxies located at a small angular distance from M 101 and having radial velocities similar to that of M 101: M 51, M 63, NGC 5474, NGC 5477, UGC 9405, Ho IV, KUG1413+573, and others. Based on the TRGB method, we have determined the distances to these galaxies. We have found that the M 101 group lies at a distance of 6.8 Mpc and is a small compact galaxy group consisting of four galaxies: NGC 5474, NGC 5477, UGC 9405, and Ho IV. The bright massive galaxies M 51 and M 63 are considerably farther (D = 9.0 and 9.3 Mpc, respectively) than the M 101 group and do not belong to it. Applying the virial theorem to 27 objects (H II regions and galaxies),M 101 satellites located at different distances from the galaxy, has revealed an increase in the dynamical mass of M 101 with increasing sizes of the system of satellites used in calculating the mass. The maximum calculated mass of M 101 is 7.5 × 1011 M . The dynamical mass of M 101 calculated on the basis of the four galaxies constituting the group is 6.2 × 1011 M . The mass-to-light ratio for this mass is M/L = 18 (at the adopted luminosity of M 101, M B = ?20.8).  相似文献

Here we present the results of panoramic and long-slit observations of eight ULX nebular counterparts performed with the 6m SAO telescope. In two ULX nebulae (ULXNe) we detected for the first time signatures of high excitation ([O III]λ5007 / Hβ > 5). Two of the ULXs were identified with young (T ~ 5–10 Myr) massive star clusters. Four of the eight ULXNe show bright high-excitation lines. This requires existence of luminous (~ 1038 ÷ 1040 erg s?1) UV/EUV sources coinciding with the X-ray sources. The other 4 ULXNe require shock excitation of the gas with shock velocities of 20–100 km s ?1. However, all the studied ULXNe spectra show signatures of shock excitation, but even those ULXNe where the shocks are prevailing show presence of a hard ionizing source with a luminosity of at least ~ 1038 erg s?1. Most likely shock waves, X-ray and EUV ionization act simultaneously in all the ULXNe, but they may be roughly separated in two groups: shock-dominated and photoionization-dominated ULXNe. The ULXs have to produce strong winds and/or jets (~ 1039 erg s?1) for powering their nebulae. Both the wind/jet activity and the existence of a bright UV source are consistent with the suggestion that ULXs are high-mass X-ray binaries with supercritical accretion disks of the SS433 type.  相似文献

For a sample of 8156 emission-line galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 4 (SDSS DR4), we have determined the current star formation rates (SFR) from three parameters: the Hα luminosity of H II regions corrected for the aperture and interstellar extinction (N = 7006 galaxies), the far-infrared luminosity (IRAS data, N = 350), and the monochromatic luminosity in the radio continuum at ν = 1.4 GHz (NVSS data, N = 475). A Salpeter initial mass function with the range of stellar masses 0.1–100 M was assumed in the SFR FIR calculations. In calculating SFR1.4, we assumed that the fraction of the thermal emission in the total radio continuum emission of the galaxy at 1.4 GHz was 10%. An upper limit for the starburst age has been determined for galaxies with known abundances of heavy elements. We compare our results with those of similar studies for isolated and Markarian H II galaxies.  相似文献

A galaxy that is a good candidate for polar-ring galaxies has been detected in the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF). The galaxy HUDF 1619 (V ≈ 25 m , z ~ 1) is the most distant object of this type known to date. A large-scale structure crosses the highly warped disk of the main galaxy seen almost edge-on at an angle of about 70°. The luminosity of this structure (the possible polar ring) reaches ~1/3 of the luminosity of the central galaxy. A strong absorption lane is seen in the region where this structure is projected onto the disk of the central object. There are two galaxies of comparable luminosity adjacent to HUDF 1619 (in projection). One of them may be the donor galaxy the interaction with which gave rise to the ring structure.  相似文献

Using the method of searching for arbitrary shaped voids in the distribution of volume-limited samples of galaxies from the DR5 SDSS survey, we have identified voids and investigated their characteristics and the change in these characteristics with decreasing M lim (from ?19.7 to ?21.2, H 0 = 100 km s?1 Mpc?1)—the upper limit on the absolute magnitude of the galaxies involved in the construction of voids. The total volume of the 50 largest voids increases with decreasing M lim with a break near M* = ?20.44—the characteristic value of the luminosity function for SDSS galaxies. The mean overdensity in voids increases with decreasing M lim also with a weak break near M*. The exponent of the dependence of the volume of a void on its rank increases significantly with decreasing M lim starting from M lim ~ ?20.4 in the characteristic range of volumes, which reflects the tendency for greater clustering of brighter galaxies. The averaged profile of the galaxy overdensity in voids has a similar pattern almost at all M lim. The galaxies mostly tend to gravitate toward the void boundaries and to avoid the central void regions; the overdensity profile is flat in the intermediate range of distances from the void boundaries. The axial ratios of the ellipsoids equivalent to the voids are, on average, retained with changing M lim and correspond to elongated and nonoblate void shapes, but some of the voids can change their shape significantly. The directions of the greatest void elongations change chaotically and are distributed randomly at a given M lim. The void centers show correlations reflecting the correlations of the galaxy distribution on scales (35–70)h ?1 Mpc. The galaxy distribution in the identified voids is nonrandom—groups and filaments can be identified. We have compared the properties of the galaxies in voids (in our case, the voids are determined by the galaxies with absolute magnitudes M abs < M lim = ?20.44, except for the isolated galaxies) and galaxies in structures identified using the minimum spanning tree. A bimodal color distribution of the galaxies in voids has been obtained. A noticeable difference is observed in the mean color indices and star formation rates per unit stellar mass of the galaxies in dense regions (structures)—as expected, the galaxies in voids are, on average, bluer and have higher log (SFR/M star). These tendencies become stronger toward the central void regions.  相似文献

We present properties of the low-surface-brightness galaxy KDG218 observed with the HST/ACS. The galaxy has a half-light (effective) diameter of a e = 47″ and a central surface brightness of SB V (0) = 24.m4/□″. The galaxy remains unresolved with the HST/ACS, which implies its distance of D > 13.1 Mpc and linear effective diameter of A e > 3.0 kpc. We notice that KDG218 is most likely associated with a galaxy group around the massive lenticular NGC4958 galaxy at approximately 22 Mpc, or with the Virgo Southern Extension filament at approximately 16.5 Mpc. At these distances, the galaxy is classified as an ultra-diffuse galaxy (UDG) similar to those found in the Virgo, Fornax, and Coma clusters. We also present a sample of 15 UDG candidates in the Local Volume. These sample galaxies have the following mean parameters: 〈D〉 = 5.1 Mpc, 〈A e 〉 = 4.8 kpc, and 〈SB B (e)〉 = 27.m4/□″. All the local UDG candidates reside near massive galaxies located in the regions with the mean stellar mass density (within 1 Mpc) about 50 times greater than the average cosmic density. The local fraction of UDGs does not exceed 1.5% of the Local Volume population. We notice that the presented sample of local UDGs is a heterogeneous one containing irregular, transition, and tidal types, as well as objects consisting of an old stellar population.  相似文献

The apparatus of correlation gamma function (Γ*(r)) is used to analyze volume-limited samples from the DR4 Main Galaxy Sample of the SDSS survey with the aim of determining the characteristic scales of galaxy clustering. Up to 20h ?1 Mpc (H 0 = 65 km s?1 Mpc?1), the distribution of galaxies is described by a power-law density—distance dependence, Γ*(r) ∝ r , with an index γ ≈ 1.0. A change in the state of clustering (a significant deviation from the power law) was found on a scale of (20–25) h ?1 Mpc. The distribution of SDSS galaxies becomes homogeneous (γ ~ 0) from a scale of ~60h ?1 Mpc. The dependence of γ on the luminosity of galaxies in volume-limited samples was obtained. The power-law index γ increases with decreasing absolute magnitude of sample galaxies M abs. At M abs ~ ?21.4, which corresponds to the characteristic value M r * of the SDSS luminosity function, this dependence exhibits a break followed by a more rapid increase in γ.  相似文献

We have searched for nearby dwarf galaxies in 27 northern groups with characteristic distances 8–15 Mpc based on the Second Palomar Sky Survey prints. In a total area of about 2000 square degrees, we have found 90 low-surface-brightness objects, more than 60% of which are absent from known catalogs and lists. We have classified most of these objects (~80%) as irregular dwarf systems. The first 21-cm line observations of the new objects with the 100-m Effelsberg radio telescope showed that the typical linear diameters (1–2 kpc), internal motions (~30 km s?1), and hydrogen masses (~2 × 107 M ) of the new galaxies correspond to those expected for the dwarf population of nearby groups.  相似文献

The “Big Trio” program is conducted at the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SAO RAS) aiming to investigate a sample of sources with steep and ultra-steep spectra fromthe RCcatalog obtained on the basis of observational data of the “Cold” survey. The population of distant FRII type radio galaxies with steep spectra is of particular interest, since new data indicate the presence of black holes with masses of more than 109 M which already formed in these giant stellar systems in the first billion years of life of the Universe, as well as their connection with emerging clusters. There are three sources with z sp > 3 in the sample. According to the observations of the 6-m SAO RAS telescope, the archival data of Subaru and Spitzer, an increased density of objects and several Lyα-emitters have been detected near one of the most powerful radio galaxies, RCJ0311+0507 (4C+04.11) with z = 4.51, which is the second most distant of the known FRII-type galaxies. Another object— RCJ1740+0502 with z = 3.57, is a possible dual AGN candidate. The third source, RCJ0105+0501, is an FRII-type galaxy (z = 3.138) with a host galaxy of a complex structure, possibly generated by interaction in a close pair of galaxies. These radio sources have high radio luminosity (L 500MHz ≈ 1028–1029WHz?1), which requires the presence of a giant black hole with a sufficient accretion rate, and also with a rapid rotation, which in turn can be provided by major merging.  相似文献

Based on archived images obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope, stellar photometry for 105 irregular galaxies has been conducted. We have shown the red supergiant and giant branches in the obtained Hertzsprung-Russel diagrams. Using the TRGB method, distances to galaxies and metallicity of red giants have been determined. The color index (V ? I) of the supergiant branch at the luminosity level MI = ?7 was chosen as the metallicity index of red supergiants. For the galaxies under study, the diagrams have been built, in which the correlation can be seen between the luminosity of galaxies (MB) and metallicity of red giants and supergiants. The main source of variance of the results in the obtained diagrams is, in our opinion, uncertainty inmeasurements of galaxy luminosities and star-forming outburst. The relation between metallicity of young and old stars shows that main enrichment of galaxies with metals has taken place in the remote past. Deviations of some galaxies in the obtained relation can possibly be explained with the fall of the intergalactic gas on them, although, this inconsiderably affects metallicities of the stellar content.  相似文献

Analysis of recent observations of the elliptical galaxies NGC 4472 and NGC 4649 with the Chandra X-ray space telescope has revealed faint soft X-ray sources at their centers. The sources are located at the galactic centers, to within 1″, and are most likely associated with the radiation from the supermassive black holes that are assumed to be at the optical centers of these galaxies. Interest in these and several other similar objects stems from the unusually low luminosity of the supermassive black hole embedded in a dense interstellar medium. The sources have soft energy spectra in the Chandra energy range 0.2–10 keV. The source is detected at a 3σ confidence level only in the range 0.2–0.6 keV with a luminosity of ~6×1037 erg s?1 in NGC 4649 and in the range 0.2–2.5 keV with a luminosity of ~ 1.7×1038 erg ?1 in NGC 4472.  相似文献

We have identified 22 galaxies with photometric redshifts zph=5–7 in the northern and southern Hubble Space Telescope deep fields. An analysis of the images of these objects shows that they are asymmetric and very compact (~1 kpc) structures with high surface brightness and absolute magnitudes of MB≈?20m. The average spectral energy distribution for these galaxies agrees with the distributions for galaxies with active star formation. The star formation rate in galaxies with zph=5–7 was estimated from their luminosity at λ=1500 Å to be ~30 Myr?1. The spatial density of these objects is close to the current spatial density of bright galaxies. All the above properties of the distant galaxies considered are very similar to those of the so-called Lyman break galaxies (LBGs) with z ~ 3–4. The similarity between the objects considered and LBGs suggests that at z ~6, we observe the progenitors of present-day galaxies that form duringmergers of protogalactic objects and that undergo intense starbursts.  相似文献

We study the variations of the properties of groups of galaxies with dynamical masses of 1013 M <M 200<1014 M , represented by two samples: one has redshifts of z < 0.027 and is located in the vicinity of the Coma cluster, the other has z > 0.027, and is located in the regions of the following superclusters of galaxies: Hercules, Leo, Bootes, Ursa Major, and Corona Borealis. Using the archived data of the SDSS and 2MASX catalogs, we determined the concentration of galaxies in the systems by measuring it as the inner density of the group within the distance of the fifth closest galaxy from the center brighter than M K = ?23. m 3. We also measured the magnitude gap between the first and the fourth brightest galaxies ΔM 14 located within one half of the selected radius R 200, the fraction of early-type galaxies, and the ratio of bright dwarf galaxies (Mr = [?18. m 5,?16. m 5]) to giant galaxies (M r < ?18. m 5) (DGR) within the radius R 200. The main aim of the investigation is to find among these characteristics the ones that reflect the evolution of groups of galaxies. We determined that the ratio of bright dwarf galaxies to early-type giant galaxies on the red sequence depends only on the x-ray luminosity: the DGR increases with luminosity. The fraction of early-type galaxies in the considered systems is equal, on average, to 0.65 ± 0.01, and varies significantly for galaxies with σ200 < 300 kms?1. Based on the luminosity of the brightest galaxy, the magnitude gap between the first and the fourth brightest galaxies in the groups, and on model computations of these parameters, we selected four fossil group candidates: AWM4, NGC0533, NGC0741, and NGC6098 (where the brightest galaxy is a double). We observe no increase in the number of faint galaxies (the α parameter of the Schechter function is less than 1) in our composite luminosity function (LF) for galaxy systems with z < 0.027 in the M K = [?26m,?21. m 5] range, whereas earlier we obtained α > 1 for the LF of the Hercules and Leo superclusters of galaxies.  相似文献
