The Huerto Andesite is the largest of several andesite sequences interlayered with the large-volume ash-flow tuffs of the San Juan volcanic field, Colorado. Stratigraphically this andesite is between the region's largest tuff (the 27.8 Ma, 3,000 km3 Fish Canyon Tuff) and the evolved product of the Fish Canyon Tuff (the 27.4 Ma, 1,000 km3 Carpenter Ridge Tuff), and eruption was from vents located approximately 20–30 km southwest and southeast of calderas associated with these ashflow tuffs. Olivine phenocrysts are present in the more mafic, SiO2-poor samples of andesite, hence the parent magma was most likely a mantle-derived basaltic magma. The bulk compositions of the olivine-bearing andesites compared to those containing orthopyroxene phenocrysts suggest the phenocryst assemblage equilibrated at 2–5 kbar. Two-pyroxene geothermometry yields equilibrium temperatures consistent with near-peritectic magmas at 2–5 kbar. Fractionation of phenocryst phases (olivine or orthopyroxene + clinopyroxene + plagioclase + Ti-magnetite + apatite) can explain most major and trace element variations of the andesites, although assimilation of some crustal material may explain abundances of some highly incompatible trace elements (Rb, Ba, Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf) in the most evolved lavas. Despite the great distance of the San Juan volcanic field from the inferred Oligocene destructive margin, the Huerto Andesite is similar to typical plate-margin andesites: both have relatively low abundances of Nb and Ta and similar values for trace-element ratios such as La/Yb and La/Nb.Deriving the Fish Canyon and Carpenter Ridge Tuffs by crystal fractionation from the Huerto Andesite cannot be dismissed by major-element models, although limited trace-element data indicate the tuffs may not have been derived by such direct evolution. Alternatively, heat of crystallization released as basaltic magmas evolved to andesitic compositions may have caused melting of crust to produce the felsic-ash flows. Mafic magmas may have been gravitationally trapped below lighter felsic magmas; mafic magmas which ascended to the surface probably migrated upwards around the margins of silicic chambers, as suggested by the present-day outcrops of andesitic units around the margins of recognized ash-flow calderas.  相似文献

Much of the central-western region of Argentina, where San Juan Province is located, experiences arid to semi-arid climatic conditions with low average annual rainfall accompanied by substantial evapotranspiration. Consequently, a viable crop industry depends to a large extent upon irrigation from major river systems. Increasing demand for water in the lower basin of the San Juan River is emphasizing the need for more accurate estimates of water used for irrigation. Since the water demand for a particular crop is very closely related to crop area, monitoring the area of crop under irrigation is considered a proxy for the amount of water used. Landsat 5 imagery for the growing season, field data and aerial photographs were used to evaluate crop area.  相似文献

The Jurassic rock sequence in Lebanon is characterized by pervasive dolomitization (thickness > 1000 m). Two distinct dolostones are recognized within this rock succession: fine-to-medium crystalline seepage-reflux grey dolostone and coarse-crystalline hydrothermal beige dolostone. In this contribution, field, petrographic, and geochemical investigations on a dolostone ‘tongue’, occurring in Late Jurassic carbonates in central Lebanon, are discussed. The dolostone ‘tongue’ consists predominantly of the beige Late Jurassic hydrothermal dolostones. During and/or after the deposition of the overlying continental sandstones (Early Cretaceous), meteoric water percolated through the sand layers and into the underlying beige dolostones. This resulted first in dolomite intracrystalline dissolution, and then in the precipitation of oxides/hydroxides within the pore space. Finally, the precipitation of ferroan dolomite cement — from reduced fluids during a new stage of burial — took place. This study attempts to explain how superimposed diagenetic events result in a single pervasive dolostone body.  相似文献

Weathering of chert artifacts from three Lapita sites (ca. 3000–2000 B.P.) in the Southeast Solomons is examined. It is shown that the rate of weathering is strongly influenced by soil pH, mineralogy, and prehistoric burning of the material. The concentrations of some major elements (Na, Cl, K, Al) are shown to have been altered during the weathering process. Implications of this work for the sourcing and dating of cherts are discussed.  相似文献

Fifty-six samples of stream sediments from 12 creeks in the vicinity of Trail, British Columbia, Canada were examined to determine their origin, characterize their organic matter and their relation to natural/geogenic and anthropogenic sources. The samples were initially screened by Rock-Eval® 6 pyrolysis for their TOC, HI, and OI contents and then examined by both reflected (polarized) and fluorescent light microscopy. It was found that organic matter in stream sediments is mostly from natural/biological sources from local vegetation, such as woody tissue, suberin, spores, and pollen, as well as altered natural/biological input from char formed due to forest fires. Anthropogenic organic matter, mostly coke particles, was also found in the stream sediments. The coke particles have anisotropic properties with medium grained texture formed from medium volatile bituminous coal. The occurrence of coke particles is limited to Ryan Creek located close to an area were some small gold, nickel, and lead smelting operations previously occurred. There is no evidence to indicate that the coke particles found in the creek are emitted from the lead and zinc smelter currently in operation in the area. There are no coal-bearing strata in the area that may have a direct input of coal fragments in any of the creeks.  相似文献

Geomorphological evidence and historical wind records indicate that eolian processes have heavily influenced San Miguel Island environments for much of the Late Quaternary. The island is almost constantly bombarded by prevailing northwesterly winds, with peak velocities exceeding 75 km/h and wind gusts reaching over 100 km/h. These strong winds played an important role in the location, formation, and preservation of the island's more than 600 archaeological sites. Excavation and surface collection at a stratified Middle and Late Holocene archaeological site on the island's north coast suggest that wind related disturbances result in significant displacement of light fish bones, produce concentrations of shellfish and heavy mammal bones, and cause significant abrasion, etching, and polishing of bones, shells, and artifacts. These data illustrate that wind not only alters surface materials but can significantly disturb subsurface deposits to a depth of at least 20 cm. Working in concert with a variety of taphonomic processes, wind can play a fundamental role in the preservation of archaeological sites and careful scrutiny during excavation and laboratory analysis is required to delineate its effects. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

A series of n-aldehydes, C20 to C32, with strong even-to-odd carbon preference was identified in the mixture of solvent extractable lipids isolated from various Washington coastal sediments. A limited survey of the lipid composition of surface waxes of foliage and cuticular waxes of pollen from several major plant species indigenous to the Pacific Northwest revealed that similar series of n-aldehydes are intrinsic to regional vegetation. Debris from such plants, discharged at the mouth of the Columbia River, represents a “preformed” source of the n-aldehyde series accumulating in sediments from the Washington coastal region. Although the evidence suggests n-aldehydes are largely introduced erosionally to this region as a chemical component of land-derived debris and are not formed in situ in the coastal sediments, further study is warranted to establish the postdepositional stability of this series of compounds relative to other lipids of higher plantwax origin. Despite but few literature reports of the occurrence of these geochemicals, long-chain n-aldehydes are very likely common in many sediments from environments that receive an input of detrital organic matter from higher plants.  相似文献

High levels of SO2 and particulate pollution enable the rapid development of gypsum-rich weathering crusts in Budapest. Two types of white crusts, thin and thick ones, and two forms of black crusts, laminar and framboidal ones, were studied in limestone buildings of the parliament and Citadella. The percentage of crust cover and damage categories were documented on selected walls. Petrographic, XRD, XRF and sulphur isotope analyses were performed under laboratory conditions to understand the mechanism of crust formation. White crusts found both on exposed and sheltered walls display a calcite-rich layer with gypsum, while black crusts are enriched with gypsum. The sulphur isotopic composition of white and black crusts overlaps, but the crusts are slightly enriched in heavy isotopes compared to rainwater. S content, Si/Al ratios and particulates in black crusts suggest that air pollution (SO2, dust) contributes to black crust formation. The accumulation of sulphur and Zn enrichment of white crusts were also documented indicating that under high pollution levels, even these compound can accumulate on exposed facades.  相似文献

大陆火山的复杂性是一个普遍关注的全球性问题,也是一个长期以来悬而未解决的地质问题.长白山火山位于亚洲板块东部的活动边缘,受到西太平洋俯冲的影响,新生代构造和火山活动活跃,为探讨大陆火山成因及其地幔源区特点提供了极佳的天然实验室.天池火山和龙岗火山是长白山地区两个重要的新生代火山区,其火山岩分布具有空间相邻、火山活动时代相似的特点,本文通过对基性火山岩的岩石学和地球化学对比研究,指出天池火山和龙岗火山具有明显的地球化学不均一性,包括微量元素不均一性和Sr、Nd、Pb同位素不均一性,来自于不同的地幔源区,天池火山和龙岗火山火山岩分布相邻,覆盖范围东西最大不过100多公里,因此这是典型的小尺度地幔地球化学不均一的特点.Sr、Nd同位素特征显示龙岗火山来自于原始地幔,而天池火山来自于原始地幔和富集地幔混合源区.不相容元素Nb、Ta显示,天池火山Ta元素含量很低(主要落在0.17~2.15 ppm的范围),具有明显的负Ta异常和明显的Nb/Ta分异(Nb/Ta=10~50,个别达到100以上),可能是板片部分熔融产物与金红石等副矿物反应的结果,暗示了西太平洋板块俯冲机制的影响;而龙岗火山没有明显Nb、Ta亏损或者分异.  相似文献

Ostracod from the upper Lower to Middle Devonian rocks of the Argentine Precordillera Basin (Talacasto and Punta Negra formations) are studied. One new genus Pircawayra nov. gen., and five species (including three new: Pircawayra gigantea nov. gen. and sp., Lapazites trinodis nov. sp. and Keslingiella? teresae nov. sp.) are defined. The recorded ostracod fauna closely resembles that coeval from Bolivia and South Africa, exhibiting a remarkable endemism, not only at the genus level, but also at the species level. In addition to its low-diversity, the Malvinokaffric ostracod association is also characterized by having large, thick, coarsely ornamented and swollen valves. The similar ostracod composition from the Andean and South African basins suggests faunal exchange between these two areas. Based on the ostracod faunas, the Malvinokaffric Realm is clearly recognizable at least up to the Middle Devonian.  相似文献

Kinmen Island is principally composed of low permeable granitoid and covered by a very thin sedimentary layer. Both surface and groundwater resources are limited and water demand is increasing with time. The groundwater in the granitoid has been surveyed as an alternative water source for daily use. Two to five highly fractured zones in the granitoid aquifer for each site were first determined by geochemical well logging. Accordingly, ten samples were collected from three sites. Using environmental isotopes and geochemical modeling, geochemical processes occurring due to water–rock interaction in the granitoid aquifer can be quantitatively interpreted. The stable isotopes of oxygen and hydrogen in groundwaters cluster along Taiwan’s local meteoric waterline, indicating evaporation does not have considerable effect on groundwaters. Given such a high evaporation rate for Kinmen Island, this result implies that infiltration rate of groundwater is high enough to reduce retention time through a well-developed fracture zone. NetpathXL is employed for inverse geochemical modeling. Results determine gypsum as being the major source of sulfate for deep groundwaters. The contribution from pyrite is minor. In addition, the weathering of albite to kaolinite is the dominant water–rock interaction characterizing geochemical compositions of deep groundwater in Kinmen Island.  相似文献

通过对腾冲火山群的黑空山、打莺山和马鞍山火山岩主量元素、微量元素、Sr-Nd-Pb同位素地球化学的研究表明,腾冲全新世火山岩为高钾钙碱性系列,包括粗面玄武岩、玄武粗安岩、粗面安山岩和英安岩。该套火山岩富集大离子亲石元素和轻稀土元素,亏损Nb-Ta-Ti不相容元素,具有高的87Sr/86Sr比值(0.705862~0.710614),低的143Nd/144Nd比值(0.511941~0.512526)和较高的放射性成因Pb同位素组成(208Pb/204Pb=38.962~39.155;207Pb/204Pb=15.620~15.659;206Pb/204Pb=17.872~18.269)。主量、微量和同位素地球化学研究表明,腾冲全新世三座火山的岩浆源区为富集地幔,地幔富集与古洋壳俯冲有关。它们是由相同的地幔源区经历了不同的岩浆演化阶段的产物,打莺山岩浆演化程度最高,黑空山次之,马鞍山岩浆演化程度最弱。通过腾冲全新世火山岩与藏南碰撞后钾质火山岩的地球化学成分对比,Sr-Nd-Pb同位素地球化学成分存在着明显的不同,暗示两者的源区存在差异。  相似文献

Hainan Island lies at the southern tip of the South China block that was affected by the opening and closure of the paleo-Tethys from Paleozoic to Mesozoic and subsequently by the subduction of the paleo- Pacific plate beneath the Euroasian plate since the late Mesozoic era. This study presents zircon U-Pb ages and geochemistry of granites and basic diabase veins in Dazhou Island located 5 km southeast of Hainan Island. The age for granites is 237.2 Ma (MSWD = 0.14, n = 14), suggesting that they were emplaced in the late middle Triassic and are products of magmatic-tectonic episodes during the closure of paleo-Tethys. The granites belong to the shoshonitic magmatic series and are metaluminous I-type granites. They are systematically depleted in Ba, Nb, Sr, P, and Ti, and have variable ranges of initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios (0.71005 ~ 0.71110), but relatively constant εNd(t) values (–6.4~–6.8). The two-stage depleted mantle Nd model ages (TDM2 = 1531–1562 Ma) for these granites suggest that they may have originated from partial melting of the lower crust with a crustal residence age of early Middle Proterozoic Era. The zircon U-Pb ages for diabase veins can be divided into three groups. The age for Group I is 236.8 Ma (n = 4), which represents the crystallization age of the veins and somewhat younger than the accompanying granites. The ages for Group II and III are 1767 Ma (n = 6) and 2432 Ma (n = 3), respectively. These suggest that the veins have inherited some old zircons that possibly represent old geological events in the Hainan Islands. The diabase also belongs to the shoshonitic magmatic series and has arc-like trace element characteristics. The veins have high 87Sr/86Sr and low 143Nd/144Nd ratios, which suggest that they may have originated from an enriched mantle II type source or a mantle source metasomatized by aqueous fluids released from previously subducted slab. The new ages obtained for the Dazhou igneous rocks in the present study are similar to those for the Qiongzhong batholith in the Hainan Island, which implies that the Hainan Island had also regionally experienced a middle Triassic extension event after the Indosinian Orogeny.  相似文献

通过对水淹层地球化学资料的分析,总结出了不同程度水淹层的地球化学特征,提出了利用地球化学资料从定性识别到定量评价的水淹层评价思路,建立了水淹层水淹程度定性识别方法、剩余油饱和度和含水率定量评价模型.对储层物理性质、岩性、流体性质、水淹程度不同的108口井529层水淹层进行了评价,剩余油饱和度与经校正后的密闭取芯井岩芯分析剩余油饱和度非常接近,水淹级别、含水率与单层试油结果一致.证明利用地球化学资料评价水淹层方法是可行的,结果是可靠的,该方法有很好的推广应用前景.  相似文献

The provenance and depositional setting of Paleogene turbidite sediments from the southern Aegean are investigated using petrography and whole-rock geochemistry. Petrography indicates that Karpathos Island turbidites are consisting of compositionally immature sandstones (graywackes–litharenites) derived from igneous (plutonic–volcanic), sedimentary, low-grade metamorphic and ophiolitic sources. The studied sediments probably reflect a mixing from an eroded magmatic arc and from quartzose, recycled sources. Major and trace element data are compatible with an acidic to mixed felsic/basic source along with input of ultramafic detritus and recycling of older sedimentary components. Geochemical data also reveal that the sediments have undergone a minor degree of weathering and no significant sediment recycling. Chondrite-normalized REE plots show a light REE enrichment (LaN/YbN ca. 7) and absence of significant negative Eu anomalies, indicating provenance from young undifferentiated arc material with contribution from an old upper continental crust source. Turbidite sedimentation probably took place in a continental island arc depositional setting as a result of subduction of a branch of Neotethys beneath a continental fragment of the Anatolide domain in Early Tertiary times. The relation of Karpathos turbidites with the Pindos foreland basin (Gavrovo and Ionian Zones of western Greece) remains problematic.  相似文献

塔里木北部二叠纪长英质火山岩年代学及地球化学特征   总被引:3,自引:2,他引:3  
大面积分布于塔里木盆地的二叠纪玄武岩构成了面积250000km2的大火成岩省(LIP),长英质火山岩的发现为塔里木二叠纪火山作用的研究打开了新的窗口。本文从塔北地区约5000m深的钻井中收集了4件二叠纪长英质火山岩的样品。通过对其进行锆石U-Pb同位素测试,得出其形成时代为274~282Ma,为塔里木大火成岩省晚期岩浆作用的产物。岩石具有高钾的特征K2O+Na2O=7.29%~8.34%,K2O/Na2O>1,大部分属于高钾钙碱性系列,且属于过铝质(A/CNK=1.32~1.53)。具有富集LREE和Zr、Hf、Y,亏损Sr、P、Ti、Nb、Ta等特征,微量元素分布曲线形态与地壳相近,具有右倾的稀土元素配分曲线,且显示出一定的负铕异常。通过Sr-Nd-Pb同位素的分析得出其源区有大量地壳物质,这与其具有较高的Th、U含量和与地壳平均值相似的Nb/La、Nb/U、Th/Ta相一致。综合年代学、地球化学特征及构造环境的判断,认为塔北地区二叠纪长英质火山岩形成于地幔柱活动背景下的地壳物质的部分熔融。  相似文献

印度-亚洲大陆碰撞伴生有大量火山活动,其中,林子宗火山岩发育最广,遍布碰撞带北侧的冈底斯带,形成长逾1200 km的火山岩带。林周地区作为林子宗火山岩的命名地,该套火山岩发育相对齐全,为安山岩、流纹岩及相应的火山碎屑岩夹沉积碎屑岩组合,顶部发育巨厚流纹质凝灰岩,可以划分出三个火山旋回,其生成时代介于63.89~48.73 Ma。岩石学和地球化学资料显示,林子宗火山岩自下而上SiO2和K2O含量以及Al2O3饱和度增加,其岩浆从早到晚由中性、中钾和准铝质变化到酸性、高钾和过铝质,晚期喷发巨厚的火山灰流,反映区域地壳明显的加厚,由早期的30~40 km变化到晚期的50~60 km。火山岩相对富集Cs、Rb、K、U,亏损Ta、Nb、Ti、Sr、Ba、P,早期与桑日组安山岩地球化学特征相近,而中—晚期与乌郁、扎嘎等地渐新世高钾火山岩相似,表明早期岩浆具有新特提斯洋俯冲板片印迹,而中—晚期具有后碰撞作用特点。林子宗火山岩作为印度-亚洲大陆碰撞过程的响应,记录着古新世至始新世(64~48 Ma)印度-亚洲大陆之间的碰撞向碰撞后演化过程。  相似文献

由于不同成矿元素在不同岩性地层单元中的背景值存在较大差异,如采用符合正态分布的统计法计算元素异常下限值,会使得矿床可能并不分布在圈定的地球化学异常范围内,异常区可能仅是高背景岩石的反映。本文以张家口1∶20万化探扫面数据为例,圈定了Cu、Zn、V、Ti、Ni等受岩性影响较大元素的异常,结果表明传统统计方法所圈元素异常区受岩性控制作用明显。而考虑岩性本底含量的衬度值法所圈异常,不仅能有效避免岩性对异常的控制作用,且能在低背景岩石单元中圈出新异常,具有较好的找矿指示意义。  相似文献

东北吉林望天鹅新生代火山岩(7.04—1.86Ma)主要由玄武粗安岩和碱性流纹岩组成。玄武粗安岩的SiO2介于49.38%-53.31%之间;K2O+Na2O为4.27%-7.72%;∑REE为163.69×10^-6-258.55×10^-6,Eu异常不明显,δEu为0.72~1.17;碱性流纹岩具高SiO2(70.39%~71.49%)含量,高碱(K2O+Na2O为9.28%~9.49%),高稀土总量(∑REE介于309.30×10^-6~465.03×10^-6之间),明显的Eu负异常,3Eu为0.52~0.71。碱性流纹岩的微量元素含量较玄武粗安岩高,且具有明显的Sr、P、Ti负异常。望天鹅火山岩的^87Sr/^86Sr比值在0.705156-0.709029之间,而^144Nd/^143Nd比值变化较小,介于0.512295~0.512602之间;放射性成因Pb同位素变化范围也较小,^206Ph/^204Pb为17.254~18.090,^207Ph/^204Pb为15.460~15.507,^208Pb/^204Ph为37.278—38.048。综合分析火山岩的主量元素、微量元素和Sr-Nd—Pb同位素特点,初步认为望天鹅火山的玄武粗安岩和碱性流纹岩具有相同的地幔源区。玄武粗安岩起源于微弱富集上地幔,在上升过程中结晶分异形成了碱性流纹岩。  相似文献
