In this paper, we present arguments for the presence of optically active Ti3+ in the structure of low iron pyroxenes to explain the strong 0.49-μm absorption band in spectra of E[II] asteroids. Such an interpretation supports the idea that E asteroid material is formed at high temperature in a strongly reducing medium. We also discuss the possibility of high temperature and hydrated rocks coexisting on some E asteroids. Our discussion is based on the idea of collisional evolution of aubrite parent bodies that was presented by Keil (1989).  相似文献

An idea is put forward that the events considered in the non-locality phenomenon are co-local and simultaneous in the reference frame of information moving with the velocity of light. Then, the special relativity can explain many aspects of the issue. Furthermore, the impact of the idea is discussed in relation to problems of the Mach principle and those of the Planck era connected to the closeness or openess of our Universe.  相似文献

We demonstrate how Sakharov's idea of induced gravity allows one to explain the statistical-mechanical origin of the entropy of a black hole. According to this idea, gravity becomes dynamical as the result of quantum effects in the system of heavy constituents of the underlying theory.The black hole entropy is related to the properties of the vacuum in the induced gravity in the presence of the horizon. We obtain the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy by direct counting the states of the constituents.  相似文献

The VSiPMT (Vacuum Silicon PhotoMultiplier Tube) is an innovative design we proposed for a revolutionary photon detector. The main idea is to replace the classical dynode chain of a PMT with a SiPM (G-APD), the latter acting as an electron detector and amplifier. The aim is to match the large sensitive area of a photocathode with the performance of the SiPM technology. The VSiPMT has many attractive features. In particular, a low power consumption and an excellent photon counting capability. To prove the feasibility of the idea we first tested the performance of a special non-windowed SiPM by Hamamatsu (MPPC) as electron detector and current amplifier. Thanks to this result Hamamatsu realized two VSiPMT industrial prototypes. In this work, we present the results of a full characterization of the VSiPMT prototype.  相似文献

Continuous CCD photometry of the classical nova DN Gem during 52 nights in the years 1992–1998 reveals a modulation with a period of 0.127844 d. The semi-amplitude is about 0.03 mag. The stability of the variation suggests that it is the orbital period of the binary system. This interpretation makes DN Gem the fourth nova inside the cataclysmic variable (CV) period gap, as defined by Diaz & Bruch, and it bolsters the idea that there is no period gap for classical novae. However, the number of known nova periods is still too small to establish this idea statistically. We eliminate several possible mechanisms for the variation, and propose that the modulation is driven by an irradiation effect. We find that model light curves of an irradiated secondary star fit the data well. The inclination angle of the system is restricted by this model to 10°≲ i ≲65°. We also refine a previous estimate of the distance to the binary system, and find d =1.6±0.6 kpc.  相似文献

It is pointed out that the fluid theory has been successful in magnetospheric problems (such as the shape of the magnetopause) which involve basic considerations such as the conservation of particles, of momentum, and of energy, but that it is inadequate for other problems (such as the energization of auroral particles). Difficulties arise from the fact that it is not always possible to specify a volume of plasma because particles do not remain as neighbours. Misuse of the fluid theory has led to a number of fallacies, such as the idea that the causal order of physical events in cosmic electrodynamics is the reverse of that in the familiar laboratory electrodynamics. This mistaken idea comes from a confusion of a mathematical sequence of calculations with the causal order. Also, the importance of the magnetic field as an active element is over-emphasized. Appreciation of the fact that kinetic theory is the more fundamental seems to be widely lacking. A plea is made for a common sense approach to magnetospheric and auroral problems wherein the fluid theory is used whenever it can, but where it is not expected to be adequate for all purposes.  相似文献

This paper summarizes the basic idea of coupling of density perturbation modes in Newtonian cosmology and the formation of primordial stars. The way of deriving the second-order differential equation governing the growth of two coupled adiabatic density perturbation modes in the matter era is briefly discussed. A Jeans criterion for the growth of short wavelength perturbations is given. A mechanism is proposed for the cosmological origin of Population III stars.  相似文献

Abstract– A mechanism for the production of crater rays is proposed that is based on the interaction of impact‐induced shock waves with existing (old) craters. Numerical simulations are used to test this idea, and to study the influence of inherited craters’ size and location on the rays’ parameters. The results of the simulations show that crater rays (at least, some of them) could be produced through this mechanism.  相似文献

Throughout his life, Fred Hoyle had a keen interest in evolution. He argued that natural selection by small, random change, as conceived by Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace, could not explain either the origin of life or the origin of a new protein. The idea of natural selection, Hoyle told us, wasn't even Darwin's original idea in the first place. Here, in honour of Hoyle's analysis, I propose a solution to Hoyle's dilemma. His solution was life from space – panspermia. But the real key to understanding natural selection is `molecular biodiversity'. This explains the things Darwin missed – the origin of species and the origin of extinction. It is also a beautiful example of the mystery disease that afflicted Darwin for over 40 years, for which we now have an answer. The phenomenology of a cosmic-phase transition on the GUT energy scale is considered. Relying on numerical studies of the nucleation theory, we find, within a restricted range of parameters, an approximate power-law expansion accompanied by a large increase of both the scale factor and the comoving entropy. The distinct feature of this particular idea is the fact that inflation and phase conversion of the GUT continuum proceed simultaneously. The generic features of such an idea are explored.  相似文献
