Magnetic reconnection is commonly accepted to play a key role in flare energy release, but only poor information about the main characteristics of this process is available so far. An intrinsic feature of reconnection is plasma density enhancement in current sheets. A unique method to detect this effect is provided by analysis of drifting bursts, whose emission frequency is close to the local Langmuir frequency or its harmonics. With this purpose, we analyze a series of several tens of drifting microwave bursts during the 30 March 2001 flare. The burst drift rates range from −10 to 20 GHz s−1. Using one-dimensional scans recorded with the SSRT interferometer at two different frequencies near 5.7 GHz, we have measured relative positions of burst sources and their velocities along a flare loop revealed from soft X-ray and extreme-ultraviolet images. It is argued that the contribution of the increasing density effect into the observed frequency drift rates is about 6 GHz s−1, which is shown to be consistent with theoretical models of magnetic reconnection with reasonable boundary conditions.  相似文献

Three particularly complex radio bursts (2001 October 19, 2001 April 10 and 2003 October 26) obtained with the spectrometers (0.65-7.6GHz) at the National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NAOC, Beijing and Yunnan) and other in- struments (NoRH, TRACE and SXT) are presented. They each have two groups of peaks occurring in different frequency ranges (broad-band microwave and narrow-band decimeter wavelengths). We stress that the second group of burst peaks that occurred in the late phase of the flares and associated with post-flare loops may be homologous radio bursts. We think that they are driven by the post-flare loops. In contrast to the time profiles of the radio bursts and the images of coronal magnetic polarities, we are able to find that the three events are caused by the active regions including main single-bipole magnetic structures, which are associated with multipole magnetic structures during the flare evolutions. In particular, we point out that the later decimetric radio bursts are possibly the radio counterparts of the homologous flares (called "homologous radio bursts" by us), which are also driven by the single-bipole mag- netic structures. By examining the evolutions of the magnetic polarities of sources (17GHz), we could presume that the drivers of the homologous radio bursts are new and/or recurring appearances/disappearances of the magnetic polarities of radio sources, and that the triggers are the magnetic reconnections of single-bipole configurations.  相似文献

This review summarizes new trends in studies of magnetic reconnection in solar flares. It is shown that plasmoids play a very important role in this primary flare process. Using the results of magnetohydrodynamic and particle-in-cell simulations, we describe how the plasmoids are formed, how they move and interact, and how a flare current sheet is fragmented into a cascade of plasmoids. Furthermore, it is shown that during the interactions of these plasmoids electrons are not only very efficiently accelerated and heated, but electromagnetic(radio) emission is also produced. We also describe possible mechanisms for the triggering of magnetic reconnection. The relevant X-ray and radio signatures of these processes(such as radio drifting pulsation structures, narrowband dm-spikes, and the loop-top and above-the-loop-top X-ray sources) are then described. It is shown that plasmoids can also be formed in kinked magnetic ropes. A mapping of X-points of the magnetic reconnection on the chromosphere(as e.g. a splitting of flare ribbons) is mentioned. Supporting EUV and white-light observations of plasmoids are added. The significance of all these processes for the fast magnetic reconnection and electron acceleration is outlined. Their role in fusion experiments is briefly mentioned.  相似文献

We analyze the high-frequency drift radio structures observed by the spectrometer at Purple Mountain Observatory (PMO) over the frequency range of 4.5 – 7.5 GHz during the 18 March 2003 solar flare. The drifting structures take place before the soft X-ray maximum, almost at the maximum of hard X-ray flux at 25 – 50 keV. For the first time, the positive drift in this kind of radio structures is detected in such a high frequency range. Their global drifting rate is roughly estimated as 3.6 GHz s−1. They appear in four groups, lasting in total for less than 6 s, and have a broad bandwidth of more than 2 GHz but a smaller ratio of the bandwidth of the drifting structures to mean frequency than that of the lower frequency range. The lifetime of each individual burst in this event can be derived by using the high temporal resolution of the spectrometer at PMO and has an average value of 36.3 ms. Since the negative drifting structures observed in the 0.6 – 4.5 GHz frequency range were interpreted to be a radio signature of a plasmoid ejected upward (moving out of the Sun), the present observation may imply that it is possible for a plasmoid to move downward during a solar flare. However, for a confirmation of this suggestion direct radio imaging observation would be needed.  相似文献

Using TRACE EUV 171 Å line, Hα line, Zürich radio, RHESSI, and HXRS observations the 29 September 2002 flare (M2.6), which occurred in AR NOAA 0134, was analyzed. Flaring structures were compared with a potential magnetic field model (field lines and quasi-separatrix layers) made from SOHO/MDI full-disk magnetogram. Series of high-resolution SOHO/MDI magnetograms and TRACE white-light images were used to find changes in the active region at the photosphere during the flare. The flare began with a rising of a small dark loop followed by the flare brightening observed in 171 Å with TRACE and Hα lines. In radio wavelengths, first type III bursts were observed 5 min prior to the start of hard X-ray emission, indicating a pre-flare coronal activity. The main hard X-ray emission peak (at 06:36 UT) was associated with the second type III burst activity and several slowly negatively drifting features, all starting from one point on the radio spectrum (probably a shock propagating through structures with different plasma parameters). After this time a huge loop formed and three minutes later it became visible in absorption both in Hα and 171 Å EUV lines. The phase of huge dark loop formation was characterized by long-lasting, slowly negatively drifting pulsations and drifting continuum. Finally, considering this huge loop as a surge an evolution of the event under study is discussed.  相似文献

We propose a new two-stage model for acceleration of electrons in solar flares. In the first stage, electrons are accelerated stochastically in a post-reconnection turbulent downflow. The second stage is the reprocessing of a subset of these electrons as they pass through a weakly compressive fast shock above the apex of the closed flare loop on their way to the chromosphere. We call this the 'shock-reprocessing' model. The model reproduces the sign and magnitude of the energy-dependent arrival time delays for both the pulsed and smooth component of impulsive solar flare X-rays, but requires either enhanced cooling or the presence of a loop-top trap to explain the concavity of the observed time delay energy relation for the smooth component. The model also predicts an emission site above the loop-top, as seen in the Masuda flare. The loop-top source distinguishes the shock-reprocessing model from previous models. The model makes testable predictions for the energy dependence of footpoint pulse strengths and the location and spectrum of the loop-top emission, and can account for the observed soft-hard-soft trend in the spectral evolution of footpoint emission. The model also highlights the concept that magnetic reconnection provides an environment which permits multiple acceleration processes. Which combination of processes operates within a particular flare may depend on the initial conditions that determine, for example, whether the reconnection downflow is turbulent or laminar. The shock-reprocessing model comprises one such combination.

We studied the M7.9 flare on April 9, 2001 that occurred within a δ-sunspot of active region NOAA 9415. We used a multi-wavelength data set, which includes Yohkoh, TRACE, SOHO, and ACE spacecraft observations, Potsdam and Ondřejov radio data and Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) images in order to study the large-scale structure of this two-ribbon flare that was accompanied by a very fast coronal mass ejection (CME). We analyzed light curves of the flare emission as well as the structure of the radio emission and report the following: the timing of the event, i.e., the fact that the initial brightenings, associated with the core magnetic field, occurred earlier than the remote brightening (RB), argue against the break-out model in the early phase of this event. We thus conclude that the M7.9 flare and the CME were triggered by a tether-cutting reconnection deep in the core field connecting the δ-spot and this reconnection formed an unstable flux rope. Further evolution of the erupted flux rope could be described either by the “standard“ flare model or a break-out type of the reconnection. The complex structure of flare emission in visible, X-ray, and radio spectral ranges point toward a scenario which involves multiple reconnection processes between extended closed magnetic structures.  相似文献

Radio observations of some active regions (ARs) obtained with the Nobeyama radioheliograph at λ=1.76cm are used for estimating the magnetic field strength in the upper chromosphere, based on thermal bremsstrahlung. The results are compared with the magnetic field strength in the photosphere from observations with the Solar Magnetic Field Telescope (SMFT) at Huairou Solar Observing Station of Beijing Astronomical Observatory. The difference in the magnetic field strength between the two layers seems reasonable. The solar radio maps of active regions obtained with the Nobeyama radioheliograph, both in total intensity (I-map) and in circular polarizations (V-map), are compared with the optical magnetograms obtained with the SMFT. The comparison between the radio map in circular polarization and the longitudinal photospheric magnetogram of a plage region suggest that the radio map in circular polarization is a kind of magnetogram of the upper chromosphere. The comparison of the radio map in total intensity with the photospheric vector magnetogram of an AR shows that the radio map in total intensity gives indications of magnetic loops in the corona, thus we have a method of defining the coronal magnetic structure from the radio I-maps at λ=1.76 cm. Analysing the I-maps, we identified three components: (a) a compact bright source; (b) a narrow elongated structure connecting two main magnetic islands of opposite polarities (observed in both the optical and radio magnetograms); (c) a wide, diffuse, weak component that corresponds to a wide structure in the solar active region which shows in most cases an S or a reversed S contour, which is probably due to the differential rotation of the Sun. The last two components suggest coronal loops on different spatial scales above the neutral line of the longitudinal photospheric magnetic field.  相似文献

An uncommon fine structure in the radio spectrum consisting of bursts in absorption was observed with the Chinese Solar Broadband Radiospectrometer (SBRS) in the frequency range of 2.6?–?3.8 GHz during an X3.4/4B flare on 13 December 2006 in active region NOAA 10930 (S05W33). Usual fine structures in emission such as spikes, zebra stripes, and drifting fibers were observed at the peak of every new flare brightening. Within an hour at the decay phase of the event we observed bursts consisting of spikes in absorption, which pulsated periodically in frequency. Their instantaneous frequency bandwidths were found to be in the 75 MHz range. Moreover, in the strongest Type III-like bursts in absorption, the spikes showed stripes of the zebra-pattern (ZP) that drifted to higher frequencies. All spikes had the duration as short as down to the limit of the instrument resolution of ≈8 ms. The TRACE 195 Å images indicate that the magnetic reconnection at this moment occurred in the western edge of the flare loop arcade. Taking into account the presence of the reverse-drifting bursts in emission, in the course of the restoration of the magnetic structures in the corona, the acceleration of the beams of fast particles must have occurred both upward and downward at different heights. The upward beams will be captured by the magnetic trap, where the loss-cone distribution of fast particles (responsible for the emission of continuum and ZP) were formed. An additional injection of fast particles will fill the loss-cone later, breaking the loss-cone distribution. Therefore, the generation of continuum will be quenched at these moments, which was evidenced by the formation of bursts in absorption.  相似文献

Solar radio spikes are one of the most intriguing spectral types of radio bursts. Their very short lifetimes, small source size and super-high brightness temperature indicate that they should be involved in some strong energy release, particle acceleration and coherent emission processes closely related to solar flares. In particular, for the microwave spike bursts, their source regions are much close to the related flaring source region which may provide the fundamental information of the flaring process. In this work,we identify more than 600 millisecond microwave spikes which recorded by the Solar Broadband Radio Spectrometer in Huairou(SBRS/Huairou) during an X3.4 solar flare on 2006 December 13 and present a statistical analysis about their parametric evolution characteristic. We find that the spikes have nearly the same probability of positive and negative frequency drifting rates not only in the flare rising phase, but also in the peak and decay phases. So we suppose that the microwave spike bursts should be generated by shockaccelerated energetic electrons, just like the terminational shock(TS) wave produced by the reconnection outflows near the loop top. The spike bursts occurred around the peak phase have the highest central frequency and obviously weak emission intensity, which imply that their source region should have the lowest position with higher plasma density due to the weakened magnetic reconnection and the relaxation of TS during the peak phase. The right-handed polarization of the most spike bursts may be due to the TS lying on the top region of some very asymmetrical flare loops.  相似文献

A fine structure consisting of three almost equidistant frequency bands was observed in the high frequency part of a solar burst on 1998 April 15 by the spectrometer of Beijing Astronomical Observatory in the range 2.6-3.8GHz. A model for this event based on beam-anisotropic instability in the solar corona is presented. Longitudinal plasma waves are excited at cyclotron resonance and then transformed into radio emission at their second harmonic. The model is in accordance with the observations if we suppose a magnetic field strength in the region of emission generation of about 200G.  相似文献

A specific combination of spectral fine structures in meter –  decimeter dynamic spectra of solar radio burst emission is reported in observations carried out at the Astrophysical Institute Potsdam. We describe and interpret the occurrence of zebra patterns in fast drifting (type III burst-like) envelopes of absorbed continuum emission. A possible mechanism of the origin of such an involved spectral pattern is put forward, leading to a necessarily multinonequlibrium component coronal plasma. The suggested mechanism is based on the fact that during the passage of a fast electron beam through the corona the loss cone instability (which is caused by electrons captured in a magnetic trap generating the continuum) is quenched. As result, a fast drift burst appears in absorption, and the zebra pattern becomes visible on the low background emission. This zebra pattern is generated by a group of electrons with a nonequilibrium distribution over transverse velocities. In the absence of the beam the pattern is invisible against the background of the stronger continuum. It is shown that the mechanism is sensitive to the distribution parameters of the different electron ensembles. Therefore the effect in dynamic radio spectra is comparatively rare but its proper existence underlines that the simultaneous presence of different ensembles of electrons in the flaring corona can be quite a frequent situation. This can explain some problems in deconvolving X-ray photon spectra to electron energy spectra.  相似文献

In the paper by Kliem, Karlický, and Benz (Astron. Astrophys. 360, 715, 2000) it was suggested, that plasmoids formed during the bursty regime of solar flare reconnection can be “visualised” in the radio spectra as drifting pulsating structures via accelerated particles trapped inside the plasmoid. In the present paper we investigate this idea in detail. First, simple statistical analysis supporting this hypothesis is presented. Then, by using the 2.5-D MHD (including gravity) model solar flare reconnection in the inhomogeneous, stratified atmosphere is simulated and the formation and subsequent ejection of the plasmoid is demonstrated. The ejected plasmoid, which is considered to be a trap for accelerated electrons, is traced and its plasma parameters are computed. To estimate the associated plasma radio emission we need to know locations of accelerated electrons and corresponding plasma frequencies. General considerations predict that these electrons should be distributed mainly along the magnetic separatrix surfaces and this was confirmed by using a particle-in-cell simulation. Finally, under some simplifying assumptions the model dynamic radio spectrum is constructed. The relation between the global frequency drift and the plasmoid motion in the inhomogeneous ambient atmosphere is studied. The results are discussed with respect to the observed drifting pulsation structures and their possible utilisation for flare magnetic field diagnostics.  相似文献

A model is presented for the penetration into the corona of a new magnetic field of a developing bipolar region and for its interaction with an old large-scale coronal field. An important feature of the model is a reconnection of the old and new fields inside the current sheet arising along the zero line of the total magnetic field calculated in the potential approximation. The magnetic reconnection and accumulation of plasma inside the current sheet can explain the appearance of dense coronal loops and the energy source at their tops. The plasma together with the magnetic lines is flowed into the sheet from both its sides. This fact explains the appearance of coronal cavities above the loops. If the large-scale field gradually decreases with the height, the loop motion is slowed down. The account of the dipolar structure of the magnetic field at large heights explains the possibility of a rapid break of the new field through the corona and the appearance of transients and open field regions - the coronal holes. In this case a fast rising current sheet can be a source of accelerated particles and of type II radio burst, instead of the shock wave considered usually.  相似文献
