An explanation for filaments inclined to the galactic plane observed in the next-inner spiral-arm is sought in terms of self-consistent z-oscillations. These filaments or „shingles”︁ are observed to be ˜ 1.4 kpc long, 70 pc thick and inclined to the plane by ˜ 12°. In a collisionless axi-symmetric stellar system we simplify the BOLTZMANN and POISSON equations by assuming a constant density normal to the galactic plane up to z ≈︂ 200 pc and by assuming a constant radial component of the spatial coordinates. The condition for selfconsistency in the linear approximation results in shingles 1.3 kpc long, inclined to the plane by 17°. The length of the shingles is independent of the radial distance R from the centre and the inclination depends inversely on R as is observed.  相似文献

We propose a mechanism for the formation of a magnetic energy avalanche based on highly dynamic phenomena within the ubiquitous small-scale network magnetic elements in the quiet photosphere. We suggest that this mechanism may provide constant mass and energy supply for the corona and fast wind. Constantly emerging from sub-surface layers, flux tubes collide and reconnect generating magneto-hydrodynamic shocks that experience strong gradient acceleration in the sharply stratified photosphere/chromosphere region. Acoustic and fast magnetosonic branches of these waves lead to heating and/or jet formation due to cumulative effects (Tarbell et al., 1999). The Alfvén waves generated by post-reconnection processes have quite a restricted range of parameters for shock formation, but their frequency, determined by the reconnection rate, may be high enough (0.1–2.5 s–1) to carry the energy into the corona. We also suggest that the primary energy source for the fast wind lies far below the coronal heights, and that the chromosphere and transition region flows and also radiative transient form the base of the fast wind. The continuous supply of emerging magnetic flux tubes provides a permanent energy production process capable of explaining the steady character of the fast wind and its energetics.  相似文献

Drifting pulsation structures (DPSs) are considered to be radio signatures of the plasmoids formed during magnetic reconnection in the impulsive phase of solar flares. In the present paper we analyze oscillations and waves in seven examples of drifting pulsation structures, observed by the 800?–?2000 MHz Ond?ejov Radiospectrograph. For their analysis we use a new type of oscillation maps, which give us much more information as regards processes in DPSs than that in previous analyses. Based on these oscillation maps, made from radio spectra by the wavelet technique, we recognized quasi-periodic oscillations with periods ranging from about 1 to 108 s in all studied DPSs. This strongly supports the idea that DPSs are generated during a fragmented magnetic reconnection. Phases of most the oscillations in DPSs, especially for the period around 1 s, are synchronized (“infinite” frequency drift) in the whole frequency range of DPSs. For longer periods in some DPSs we found that the phases of the oscillations drift with the frequency drift in the interval from ?17 to \(+287~\mbox{MHz}\,\mbox{s}^{-1}\). We propose that these drifting phases can be caused (a) by the fast or slow magnetosonic waves generated during the magnetic reconnection and propagating through the plasmoid, (b) by a quasi-periodic structure in the plasma inflowing to the reconnection forming a plasmoid, and (c) by a quasi-periodically varying reconnection rate in the X-point of the reconnection close to the plasmoid.  相似文献

Some possible ways of the energy production with fusion reactions in the Sun was explored theoretically in the first half of this century. Nowadays it is a standard view that the Sun produces its energy on a uniform level. I point out, that in the stellar and solar energy production a dynamic energy source is necessarily present behind the uniform one, and generates a direct connection between the core and the surface layers through tunnels. One of the important consequences of a newly discovered secular dynamical evolution process of spiral galaxies (Zhang, 1996, 1998, 1999) is that the orbiting disk matter receives energy injection each time it crosses the spiral density wave crest. This energy injection has been shown to be able to quantitatively explain the observed age-velocity-dispersion relation of the solar neighborhood stars. We demostrate in this paper that similar energy injection into the interstellar medium could serve as the large-scale energy source to continuously power the observed interstellar turbulence and to offset its downward cascade tendency. Solar EUV images recorded by the EUV Imaging Telescope (EIT) on SOHO have been used to evaluate temperature and density as a function of position in two largescale features in the corona observed in the temperature range of 1.0–2.0 MK. Such observations permit estimates of longitudinal temperature gradients (if present) in the corona and, consequently, estimates of thermal conduction and radiative losses as a function of position in the features. We examine two relatively cool features as recorded in EIT's Feix/x (171 Å) and Fexii (195 Å) bands in a decaying active region. The first is a long-lived loop-like feature with one leg, ending in the active region, much more prominent than one or more distant footpoints assumed to be rooted in regions of weakly enhanced field. The other is a near-radial feature, observed at the West limb, which may be either the base of a very high loop or the base of a helmet streamer. We evaluate energy requirements to support a steady-state energy balance in these features and find in both instances that downward thermal conductive losses (at heights above the transition region) are inadequate to support local radiative losses, which are the predominant loss mechanism. The requirement that a coronal energy deposition rate proportional to the square of the ambient electron density (or pressure) is present in these cool coronal features provides an additional constraint on coronal heating mechanisms.  相似文献

In earlier works we introduced and tested a nonlinear force-free (NLFF) method designed to self-consistently calculate the coronal free magnetic energy and the relative magnetic helicity budgets of observed solar magnetic structures. In principle, the method requires only a single, photospheric or low-chromospheric, vector magnetogram of a quiet-Sun patch or an active region and performs calculations without three-dimensional magnetic and velocity-field information. In this work we strictly validate this method using three-dimensional coronal magnetic fields. Benchmarking employs both synthetic, three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations and nonlinear force-free field extrapolations of the active-region solar corona. Our time-efficient NLFF method provides budgets that differ from those of more demanding semi-analytical methods by a factor of approximately three, at most. This difference is expected to come from the physical concept and the construction of the method. Temporal correlations show more discrepancies that are, however, soundly improved for more complex, massive active regions, reaching correlation coefficients on the order of, or exceeding, 0.9. In conclusion, we argue that our NLFF method can be reliably used for a routine and fast calculation of the free magnetic energy and relative magnetic helicity budgets in targeted parts of the solar magnetized corona. As explained in this article and in previous works, this is an asset that can lead to valuable insight into the physics and triggering of solar eruptions.  相似文献

The flares associated with reported type II bursts from 1964–1973 (hereafter abbreviated source-flares) are analyzed with respect to their importance, duration, and heliographic distribution. The source-flares for type II bursts generally are normal to small in area and normal to brilliant in intensity; however, they have slightly longer durations than would be expected from flares with such small areas. Flares associated with type II bursts are distributed uniformly east and west of the central meridian. This implies that type II bursts cannot be narrow-beamed, radially-propagating radio emitters. The latitude of the occurrence of source-flares shows a drift with time that is not significantly different from that of sunspots. The drift rate is a maximum during the period of maximum solar activity. The heliographic distribution of source-flares shows large-scale organization into similarly shaped regions (source-regions) separated by 180° of longitude in each polar hemisphere. The shape of the source-regions differs between the northern and the southern hemispheres. The source-regions exhibit growth and motion characteristics which suggest that their development is due partly to the effects of differential rotation. An analysis of the plage regions which are associated with source-flares shows that relatively few plages ever produce type II bursts, yet certain plages produce type II bursts repeatedly. One active region produced type II bursts on six consecutive disc passages. Since the source-regions for type II bursts are large-scale, persistent solar features that show motion and development related to the solar cycle, an evaluation of the distinctive fluid motion characteristics of these regions appears to be an important step in the determination of specific environmental configurations which can produce solar shock waves.  相似文献

An asymptotic solution for the equation of radiative transfer in an inhomogeneous medium was obtained on the basis of the corresponding solutions for homogeneous sub-layers in the slowing down region. Function relations between the reflection and transmission coefficients for the whole slab and those of the sublayers are given. The invariant embedding concepts are used to get the reflection and transmission coefficients for the sub-layers. We assumed different models for the slowing-down kernels. Laplace transform was used to transform the Boltzmann equation to one velocity approximation with re-scaled mean-free path and single-scattering albedo. Numerical results are given for energy albedo as a function of the mass number of the host medium.  相似文献

I review the processes that govern the amount and the thermal state of the hot plasma pervading clusters and groups of galaxies: the gravitational heating driven by the DM merging histories, the radiative cooling of baryons, and the energy fed back by SNe and by AGNs or quasars. I argue that the X-ray emissions and the entropy levels now observed from clusters to groups require the AGNs to contribute substantially to preheat the gas before it falls into clusters, and the quasars to blow some plasma out of groups and galaxies.  相似文献

High energy gammay–ray emission from an extended region between the squasars 3C273 and 3C279 in Virgo has been detected by the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory(CGRO). This emission shows a remarkably constant flux over an observation time of years between June 1991 and December 1993. The data analysis shows, that the structure is not the result of an instrumental effect. The object has a perfect power law photon spectrum with index α=-2.06 ± 0.05 which is different from the spectra of the neighboring quasars 3C273 and 3C279. Integration of the spectrum leads to a flux estimation of (7.0± 0.3) × 10-7 γ cm-2s-1 above 100 MeV. No galactic or extragalactic counterpart is found at other wavelengths. Indications point, however, at an extragalactic origin of the gamma radiation. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

To further our understanding of the Great Attractor (GA), we have undertaken a redshift survey using the 2-degree Field (2dF) instrument on the Anglo-Australian Telescope (AAT). Clusters and filaments in the GA region were targeted with 25 separate pointings resulting in approximately 2600 new redshifts. Targets included poorly studied X-ray clusters from the Clusters in the Zone of Avoidance (CIZA) Catalogue as well as the Cen–Crux and PKS 1343−601 clusters, both of which lie close to the classic GA centre. For nine clusters in the region, we report velocity distributions as well as virial and projected mass estimates. The virial mass of CIZA J1324.7−5736, now identified as a separate structure from the Cen–Crux cluster, is found to be  ∼3 × 1014 M  , in good agreement with the X-ray inferred mass. In the PKS 1343−601 field, five redshifts are measured of which four are new. An analysis of redshifts from this survey, in combination with those from the literature, reveals the dominant structure in the GA region to be a large filament, which appears to extend from Abell S0639  ( l = 281°, b =+11°)  to  ( l ∼ 5°, b ∼−50°)  , encompassing the Cen–Crux, CIZA J1324.7−5736, Norma and Pavo II clusters. Behind the Norma cluster at   cz ∼ 15 000 km s−1  , the masses of four rich clusters are calculated. These clusters (Triangulum Australis, Ara, CIZA J1514.6−4558 and CIZA J1410.4−4246) may contribute to a continued large-scale flow beyond the GA. The results of these observations will be incorporated into a subsequent analysis of the GA flow.  相似文献

A fluid mechanical convective instability is examined under the conditions found in the solar corona. Linearized density perturbations are shown to grow as they are carried outward by the solar wind.
