This article presents a complete study of the diurnal chemical reactivity of the biogenic volatile organic compound (BVOC), 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol (MBO) in the troposphere. Reactions of MBO with OH and with ozone were studied to analyse the respective parts of both processes in the global budget of MBO atmospheric reactivity. They were investigated under controlled conditions for pressure (atmospheric pressure) and temperature (298 ± 2 K) using three complementary European simulation chambers. Reaction with OH radicals was studied in the presence of and in the absence of NO x . The kinetic study was carried out by relative rate study using isoprene as a reference. The rate constant found for this reaction was molecule−1 cm3 s−1. FTIR spectroscopy, DNPH- and PFBHA-derivatisation analyses were performed for reactions with both OH radicals and ozone. In both reactions, the hydroxycarbonyl compound, 2-hydroxy-2-methylpropanal (HMPr) was positively identified and quantified, with a yield of in the reaction with OH, and a yield of and 0.84 ± 0.08 in the reaction with ozone under dry (HR < 1%) and humid conditions (HR = 20%–30%). A primary production of two other carbonyl compounds, acetone , and formaldehyde was found in the case of the dry ozonolysis experiments. Under humid conditions, only formaldehyde was co-produced with HMPr as a primary carbonyl compound, with a yield of . For the reaction with OH, three other carbonyl compounds were detected, acetone , formaldehyde and glycolaldehyde . In addition some realistic photo-oxidation experiments were performed to understand in an overall way the transformations of MBO in the atmosphere. The realistic photo-oxidation experiments were conducted in the EUPHORE outdoor simulation chamber. It was found that this compound is a weak secondary aerosol producer (less than 1% of the carbon balance). But it was confirmed that it is a potentially significant source of acetone, Δ[Acetone]/Δ[MBO] = 0.45. With our experimental conditions ([MBO]0 = 200 ppb, [NO]o = 50 ppb), an ozone yield of Δ[O3]/Δ[MBO] = 1.05 was found.  相似文献

The reactions of three structurally similar unsaturated alcohols, 2-buten-1-ol (crotyl alcohol), 2-methyl-2-propen-1-ol (MPO221) and 3-methyl-2-buten-1-ol (MBO321) with Cl atoms, have been investigated for the first time, using a 400 l Teflon reaction chamber coupled with gas chromatograph-coupled with flame-ionization detection (GC-FID). The experiments were performed at atmospheric pressure and at temperatures between 255 and 298 K, in air or nitrogen as the bath gas. The obtained kinetic data were used to derive the Arrhenius expressions , , (in units of cm3 molecule−1 s−1). Finally, atmospheric lifetimes of those unsaturated alcohols with respect to OH, NO3, O3 and Cl have been calculated.  相似文献

We present here experimental determinations of mass accommodation coefficients using a low pressure tube reactor in which monodispersed droplets, generated by a vibrating orifice, are brought into contact with known amounts of trace gases. The uptake of the gases and the accommodation coefficient are determined by chemical analysis of the aqueous phase. We report in this article measurements of exp=(6.0±0.8)×10–2 at 298 K and with a total pressure of 38 Torr for SO2, (5.0±1.0)×10–2 at 297 K and total pressure of 52 Torr for HNO3, (1.5±0.6)×10–3 at 298 K and total pressure of 50 Torr for NO2, (2.4±1.0)×10–2 at 290 K and total pressure of 70 Torr for NH3.These values are corrected for mass transport limitations in the gas phase leading to =(1.3±0.1)×10–1 (298 K) for SO2, (1.1±0.1)×10–1 (298 K) for HNO3, (9.7±0.9)×10–2 (290 K) for NH3, (1.5±0.8)×10–3 (298 K) for NO2 but this last value should not be considered as the true value of for NO2 because of possible chemical interferences. Results are discussed in terms of experimental conditions which determine the presence of limitations on the mass transport rates of gaseous species into an aqueous phase, which permits the correction of the experimental values.  相似文献

A modified profile method for determining the vertical deposition (or/and exhalation) fluxes of NO, NO2, ozone, and HNO3 in the atmospheric surface layer is presented. This method is based on the generally accepted micrometeorological ideas of the transfer of momentum, sensible heat and matter near the Earth's surface and the chemical reactions among these trace gases. The analysis (aerodynamic profile method) includes a detailed determination of the micrometeorological quantities (such as the friction velocity, the fluxes of sensible and latent heat, the roughness length and the zero plane displacement), and of the height-invariant fluxes of the composed chemically conservative trace gases with group concentrations c 1=[NO]+[NO2]+[HNO3], c 2=[NO2]+[O3]+3/2·[HNO3], and c 3=[NO]–[O3]–1/2·[HNO3]. The fluxes of the individual species are finally determined by the numerical solution of a system of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations for the concentrations of ozone and HNO3 (decoding method). The parameterization of the fluxes is based on the flux-gradient relationships in the turbulent region of the atmospheric surface layer. The model requires only the vertical profile data of wind velocity, temperature and humidity and concentrations of NO, NO2, ozone, and HNO3.The method has been applied to vertical profile data obtained at Jülich (September 1984) and collected in the BIATEX joint field experiment LOVENOX (Halvergate, U.K., September 1989).  相似文献

A box model is used to explore the detailed chemistry of C2 and C3 organic compounds in the marine troposphere by tracing the individual reaction paths resulting from the oxidation of ethane, ethene, acetylene, propane, propene and acetic acid. The mechanisms include chemical reactions in the gas phase and in the aqueous phase of clouds and aerosol particles at cloud level under conditions resembling those in the northern hemisphere. Organic hydroperoxides are found to be important intermediate products, with subsequent reactions leading partly to the formation of mixed hydroxy or carbonyl hydroperoxides that are readily absorbed into cloud water, where they contribute significantly to the formation of multifunctional organic compounds and organic acids. Organic hydroperoxides add little to the oxidation of sulfur dioxide dissolved in the aqueous phase, which is dominated by H2O2. Next to acetaldehyde and acetone, glycol aldehyde, glyoxal, methyl glyoxal and hydroxy propanone are prominent oxidation products in the gas and the aqueous phase. Acetaldehyde is not efficiently converted to acetic acid in clouds; the major local sources of acetic acid are gas-phase reactions. Other acids produced include hydroperoxy acetic, glycolic, glyoxylic, oxalic, pyruvic, and lactic acid. The mechanism of Schuchmann et al. (1985), which derives glycolic and glyoxylic acid from the oxidation of acetate, is found unimportant in the marine atmosphere. The principal precursors of glyoxylic acid are glyoxal and glycolic acid. The former derives mainly from acetylene and ethene, the latter from glycolaldehyde, also an oxidation product of ethene. The oxidation of glyoxylic acid leads to oxalic acid, which accumulates and is predicted to reach steady state concentrations in the range 30–90 ng m−3. This is greater, yet of the same magnitude, than the concentrations observed over the remote Pacific Ocean.  相似文献
