Concentrations of As, Ba, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, V, and Zn in campus dust from kindergartens and elementary schools in Xi’an, China, were analyzed using X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and heavy metal contamination levels were assessed based on the geoaccumulation index (I geo), enrichment factor (EF) and numero synthesis pollution index (NSPI). The results indicate that, in comparison with Shaanxi soil, dust samples have elevated metal concentrations as a whole, except for V, Mn, Ni, and As. The assessment results of I geo and EF indicate that V, Mn, Ni, and As in campus dust are uncontaminated, while Ba and Cr are uncontaminated to moderately contaminated, and Co, Cu, Pb, and Zn are moderately to strongly contaminated. The NSPI results show that most dust samples presented heavily contaminated by heavy metals. More attention should be paid to heavy metal contamination of campus dust from kindergartens and elementary schools of Xi’an.  相似文献

The paper reports the spatial distribution and contamination level of heavy metals (Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn and V) in urban topsoil from the interior area of the second ringroad of Xi’an city, China, based on X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy measurements. Geostatistical analysis shows that Co, Cu, and Pb have similar spatial distribution patterns. Heavy traffic density mainly contributed to the high concentrations of Co, Cu and Pb. The spatial distribution of Cr coincides with the industrial activity, whereas the spatial distribution of Zn differs from other heavy metals. The high concentrations of Zn coincide with heavy traffic and high population density. For Mn, Ni and V, natural factors are important in controlling their distribution. The calculated geoaccumulation indices indicate that urban topsoil inside the Xi’an second ringroad was uncontaminated by Cr, V, Mn and Ni, while Pb, Cu, Co and Zn are classified as uncontaminated to moderately contaminated with means of 0.64, 0.46, 0.26 and 0.21, respectively. The Nemero synthesis pollution index of these heavy metals revealed that the topsoil inside Xi’an second ringroad has been heavily contaminated due to anthropogenic activity.  相似文献

Soil pollution is among priority environmental problems in Belarus, especially in cities. Main compound of the health risk are connected with soil pollution-consumption of plants production cultivated at polluted soils. Now in Belarus cultivation of vegetables and potatoes is rather typical at allotment gardens, in rural parts of cities and towns and in suburban regions. Mapping of soil pollution and study of pollutant accumulation in plant production in connections with soil contamination and health risk assessment were conducted in a few large cities of Belarus (Minsk, Gomel, Svetlogorsk, etc). Investigation includes sampling of soils and vegetation according to a certain plan, sample processing, chemical analysis, results assimilation, mapping, and risk assessment. Contents of soluble compounds (nitrates, sulphates etc.), total and reactive heavy metals (lead, zinc, cadmium, etc.) were determined. Heavy metal contents were determined by AAS. Elevated levels of heavy metals were detected in soils used for growing vegetables and potatoes. Priority pollutants, as for urban soils on the whole, are lead and zinc. Average accumulation coefficient (related to local background values) for investigated areas within the limits 2.1-7.8. Contents of lead exceeding Maximum Permissible Concentrations (MPC) were detected in 16% of the samples collected in kitchen gardens of Gomel, of zinc in 38% of the samples from kitchen gardens of Svetlogorsk. Average content of zinc in cabbage, carrot and red beet in background conditions amounts to 4 mg/kg, in potatoes, 3.6 mg/kg. In samples of agricultural production from Svetlogorsk the contents of zinc vary from 1.7 to 156.6 mg/kg; average content in cabbage, 25.8 mg/kg, in red beet, 18.0, carrot, 11.8, potatoes, 5.6 mg/kg. For ecological risk assessment from polluted agricultural products consumption the concept of reference dose was applied.  相似文献

Heavy metal contamination has attracted huge concern due to its toxicity, abundance and persistence in the environment, and subsequent accumulation in soil, sediment and water. Mining is one of the most important sources of heavy metals in the environment. Mining-milling operations and disposal of tailings (the finely ground remains of milled ores) in addition to smelting and metal refining provide significant sources of pollution. Mining and mineral processing in the Dexing region of China have been carried out for over forty years and have contaminated the soils with heavy metals, Many studies were conducted to assess and establish the extent of heavy metal contamination in the soils due to mining. The aim of this work was to assess the environmental impact of mining on soils in the Dexing region and to identify the main factors involved in heavy metals dispersion. A 4800 km^2 study area was assessed with respect to its heavy metals on the basis of the current guideline values. In order to assess the extent of heavy metals contamination resulting from past mining activities in the Dexing region, 919 soil samples were collected and analyzed for As, Hg, Cd, Cr, Zn, Cu and Pb, Heavy metals levels were determined using inductively couple plasma-atomic emission spectrometry and X-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Results of soil samples reported concentrations between 1.790-899 mg/kg for As, 0.034-4.980 mg/kg for Hg, 0.043-8.330 mg/kg for Cd, 10-666 mg/kg for Cr, 25-18500 mg/kg for Zn, 6-1825 mg/kg for Cu, and 16-1312 mg/kg for Pb, respectively. The maximum values of As, Hg, Cd, Cr, Zn, Cu and Pb concentration in soils were up to 60, 33, 41, 7, 185, 52 and 37 times higher than the tolerable level, respectively. Meanwhile, the single-factor pollution index and Nemerow pollution index were used to assess the environment quality of heavy metals contamination.  相似文献

190 Street dust samples were collected from nine different localities including high traffic (desert highway), moderate traffic (city center), light traffic (minor streets), residential streets, school gardens, hospital and health centers, industrial sites, parks and background sites (control) of Ma’an area. The concentrations of Fe, Zn, Ni, Pb, Mn, Cu and Cd were analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer to assess and to compare road dust contamination levels of metals among the different types of urban environment. The results showed that dust samples from the urban and industrial site contained significant levels of the metals studied compared to the values obtained from the background site. The variation in concentration of the heavy metals determined from different locations was in the decreasing order as: industrial > high traffic > parks > moderate traffic > hospital and health centers > school gardens > light traffic > background sites. The mean concentrations of the metals were in the order of C Fe > C Zn > C Ni > C Pb > C Mn > C Cu > C Cd where C is the concentration of these metals in solution. Enrichment factor calculations indicated that Cd, Pb, Zn and Ni were highly enriched. Fossil fuel combustion, wear of brake lining materials, traffic emissions and several industrial processes are considered the main sources of these metals. Assessment of the contamination level in dust sample was estimated based on the geoaccumulation index (I geo), the pollution index, and integrated pollution index (IPI). The values of IPI are in the following order: Pb > Zn > Cu > Ni > Cd > Mn. All the indices for the metals under consideration were either low or corresponded to middle level of contamination. The use of factor analysis showed that anthropogenic activities seem to be the responsible source of contamination for metals in dust samples.  相似文献

The South Jingyang Plateau, with a total area of 70 km2, is located in Shaanxi Province, China. Since 1976, more than 50 landslides of different types have occurred repeatedly on the edge slopes of the plateau due to the start of diversion irrigation on the plateau, resulting in great loss of lives and property. To better understand the initiation and movement mechanisms of these loess landslides, we surveyed them and carried out a detailed investigation of a large landslide in the Xihetan area. Our field survey results revealed that although most of these landslides had a long runout with high mobility, most of the landslide materials originating from the edge slopes may have been in an unsaturated state when the landslide occurred. This suggests that the materials at the toe of the edge slope as well as on the travel path along the river terrace might have played a key role in landslide movement. To examine how the materials on the travel path were involved in the landsliding, we used a multichannel surface wave technique and surveyed shear wave velocity (V s ) profiles of the landslide deposits. We also examined the internal geometry of the deposits that outcropped on the right-side slope of the landslide foot. The longitudinal profile of V s along the direction of movement showed that terrace deposits near the toe of the edge slope may have been sheared upward, indicating that at the toe, the surface of rupture might be located inside the terrace deposits. The V s contours showed an A-shaped fold within the landslide deposits in the middle part of the travel path and became greater in the most distal toe part. The V s profile across the deposits showed a U-shaped belt, in which the soil layers have smaller V s . This belt may be the boundary between the sliding landslide debris and terrace deposits. The observed internal geometry of the landslide deposits indicates that a sliding surface developed within the sandy layer underlying the gravel layer. Therefore, we inferred that after failure, the displaced landslide materials overrode and sheared the terrace deposits along its main sliding direction, resulting in the formation of thrust folds within the terrace deposits, and greater V s on the distal toe part of the landslide.  相似文献

An investigation on spatial distribution, possible pollution sources, and affecting factors of heavy metals in the urban–suburban soils of Lishui city (China) was conducted using geographic information system (GIS) technique and multivariate statistics. The results indicated that the topsoils in urban and suburban areas were enriched with metals, such as Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn. Spatial distribution maps of heavy metal contents, based on geostatistical analysis and GIS mapping, indicated that Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn had similar patterns of spatial distribution. Their hot-spot areas were mainly concentrated in the densely populated old urban area of the city. Multivariate statistical analysis (correlation analysis, principal component analysis, and clustering analysis) showed distinctly different associations among the studied metals, suggesting that Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Cd, and Zn had anthropogenic sources, whereas Co and V were associated with parent materials and therefore had natural sources. The Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb, and Zn contents were positively correlated with soil organic matter, pH, and sand content (p < 0.01). It is concluded that GIS and multivariate statistical methods can be used to identify hot-spot areas and potential sources of heavy metals, and assess soil environment quality in urban–suburban areas.  相似文献

Atmospheric pollution from atmospheric particulate matter (APM) deposition is one of the major sources of potential hazardous elements (PHEs) contamination. In this study, 68 total APM samples were collected from the local areas of southern Xi’an (NW China) during the long-term period of the 2001–2012 dust campaign. The chemical fractionation of PHEs (Cr, Cu, Ba, Sr, As, Pb, and Zn), their contamination levels, and ecological health risk were examined. The mobility sequence based on the sums of the first three fractionations of the modified BCR (the European Community Bureau of Reference) sequential extraction stages was: Cu (77.83 %) > Pb (74.50 %) > Zn (55.40) > Sr (52.93) > Ba (40.89) > Cr (30.09) > As (21.59). The contamination levels of APMs from these sites, calculated from the total content indices ICF, were uniformly moderate in degree. The obtained single-metal model MIMERSS (speciation index) values had allowed for classification of elements as a function of their potential ecological risk as As (64.00 mean value) > Pb (43.86) > Sr (37.50) > Cu (11.53) ? Ba (11.32) > Zn (7.68) > Cr (1.88). The results presented that the toxic As posed a moderate to considerable risk; Pb and Sr varied from low to a moderate risk, while others posed low risk. However, a new developed multi-metal model GRIIERMS (speciation index) indicated that the PHEs in most of the APMs posed moderate ecological risk. The result was consistent with that of ICF indexes. Combined with the US Environmental Protection Agency, we developed models of (ingestion, dermal and inhalation) hazard index (HI), children’s health risk due to PHEs exposure from APM was higher than that for adults. Much attention should be paid to the PHE As (HI = 0.864, close to 1) for children. While, carcinogenic risk for adults was higher than that for children. Although cancer risk because of As, Cr and Pb exposure were within an acceptable range, the PHEs exposed to the highest density of the population in residential and educational villages in south of Xi’an would be much more concerned. The moderate ecological risk and the higher risk for children’s health illustrated that special attention has to be taken to the mentioned PHEs from APMs in the local ecosystem, and their health risk impact should continue to be checked carefully. The new developed GRIIERMS index method was to be useful for risk assessment of PHEs combining with their chemical fractionations.  相似文献

The natural radiological characteristics and their respective annual effective dose (AED) rates, produced by 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in coal, fly ash and bottom ash from two large coal-fired power plants (CFPPs) of Xi’an were determined by means of γ-ray spectrometry. The average activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in all ash samples (fly ash and bottom ash samples) from the two CFPPs were 67.6, 74.3 and 225.3 Bq kg−1, respectively. The results are compared with data from other locations. To evaluate the radiological hazards of the natural radioactivity, the radium equivalent activity (Raeq), air absorbed dose rate (D), AED and external hazard index (H ex) are compared with internationally accepted values. Raeq and H ex of all samples except three fly ash samples were less than the limits of 370 Bq kg−1 and unity, respectively. The average D and AED for ash samples were 86.8 nGy h−1 and 0.11 mSv y−1, respectively, which exceed the world average and Xi’an average values.  相似文献

Utilization of urban underground space has become a vital approach to alleviate the strain on urban land resources, and to optimize the structure and pattem of the city. It is also very important to improve the city environment, build livable city and increase the capacity of the city. Based on the analysis of existing evaluation methods and their problems, a method for evaluating underground space resources based on a negative list of adverse factors affecting underground space development is proposed, to be primarily used in urban planning stages. A list of the adverse factors is established, including limiting factors, constraining factors and influencing factors. Taking Xi’an as an example, using a geographical information system platform, a negative list of adverse factors for the underground space resources in Xi’ an City are evaluated, and preventive measures are proposed. Natural resources, exploitable resources, and the potential growth of exploitable underground space resources are evaluated. Underground space assessment in the different development stages of the city, collaborative utilization and safety evaluation for multiple subsurface resources, environmental impact and assessment, as well as evaluation methods based on big data and intelligent optimization algorithms are all discussed with the aim of serving city planning and construction.  相似文献

Effects of mercury on ecosystems and human health are well documented. Human activities have significant impacts on transport, transformation, and fate of mercury in the natural environment. In this study, a gold mining area (Tongchuan), an urban area (Xi'an), and a historical site (Qinshihuan Tomb) in Shaanxi Province, China, was chosen to study the effects of human activities on the transport, transformation, and fate of mercury in the area. Samples of atmospheric precipitate, soil, sediment, pomegranate, corn and those from wells and the rivers that flow through or flow by the city and from the mining area were collected. The EPA methods were used for sample preparation and analysis of these samples. These methods combine acid digestion, chemical reduction, purge and trap with Cold Vapor Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry (CVAFS). Preliminary results showed high total mercury concentrations in the water samples collected from a river in Tongguan County. The total mercury concentrations ranged from 133 to 188 ng/L in the water samples collected from the rivers flowing through Xi'an City. The amount of total mercury in the soil/sediment samples which were collected in the vicinity of Xi'an ranged from 31.8 to 83.2 ng/g. The total mercury concentrations in the samples of atmospheric precipitate (including rain and snow collected from Sep. 2005 to Jan. 2006) ranged from 106-298 ng/L.  相似文献

Thickened heavy oils in China are genetically characteristic of continenta .As to their physico-chemical properties, these oils are very high in viscosity and low in sulphur and trace element con-tents.In the group constituents, the concentrations of non-hydrocarbons and asphaltene are very high but those of saturated hydrocarbons and aromatics are very low.The gas chromatograms of alkanes show that these heavy oils have high abundances of iso-alkanes and cyclic hydrocarbons. In all the steroids and terpenoids ,bicyclic sesquiterpenoids, tricyclic diterpenoids,re-arranged steranes and gammacerane are strongly bildegradation-resistent.The formation of heavy oil reservoirs is controlled mainly by late basin ascendance, biodegradation, flushing by meteoric water and oxidation in the oil-bearing formations.Ac-cording to their formation mechanisms, heavy oil reservoirs can be classified as four categories:weathering and denudation, marginal oxidation, secondary migration and thickening of bottom water .Spacially, heavy thick oil reservoirs are distributed regularly:they usually show some paragenetic relationships with normal oil reservoirs.Heavy oil reservoirs often occur in structural highs or in overlying younger strata.Their burial depth is about 200m.Horizontally,most of them are distributed on the margins of basins or depressions.  相似文献

The urban environment quality is of vital importance as the majority of people now live in cities. Due to the continuous urbanization and industrialization with rapidly increasing economy in China, metals are continuously emitted into soils, imposing a great threat on human health. Urban soils might be affected by industrial activities, transport, agricultural practice, and waste disposal. An extensive survey was conducted in the highly urbanized Zhangzhou City (Fujian Province, China) using a systematic sampling strategy. Concentrations of Hg, Cd, Pb, Zn, Cu, As, Cr and Ni were measured on 108 topsoil samples collected from parks (0-15 cm), residential areas and suburban agricultural soils. Statistic approach (cluster analysis) was adopted for identification of natural and anthropogenic influence on heavy metal contents. The maps of metal concentrations in surface soils were made based on geographical information system (GIS) data. All of these aim at assessing the distribution of these heavy metals in the urban environment.  相似文献

The ores of the Yata gold mine in China are rich in arsenic and antimony, so the exploitation of this mine may also lead to the release of As and Sb to adjacent environments, such as stream water, stream sediment, soil, plants, and crops. To understand the environmental impact of mine tailings, samples of water, sediment, soil, plant and crop were collected and analyzed. In summer of 2005, the tailings dump was seriously flushed by a heavy flood, and the mine waste was transported far away. Samples were collected in December of 2004 and January of 2006, respectively, and the impact of the flood on the release of toxic elements was evaluated. The result shows that the Yata creek, which drains the mining area, was severely contaminated by As and Sb. The dissolved As and Sb in water are 86-1140 μg/L and 65-370 μg/L, the particulate As and Sb are 38-2100 μg/L and 25-420 μg/L, whereas As and Sb in the sediment are 190-760 μg/g and 69-210 μg/g, respectively. In water environment, As and Sb show a similar feature to SO4^2- since As and Sb exist dominantly as anions--H2AsO4^-, HAsO4^2- and SbO3^-. In contrast to Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, which migrate mostly in particulate form, As and Sb tend to transport in dissolved form.  相似文献

The heavy metal contamination of soils and waters by metalliferous mining activities in an area of Korea was studied. In the study area of the Imcheon Au–Ag mine, soils and waters were sampled and analyzed using AAS for Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn. Analysis of HCO3, F, NO3 and SO42− in water samples was also undertaken by ion chromatography. Elevated concentrations of the metals were found in tailings. The maximum contents in the tailings were 9.4, 229, 6160 and 1640 mg/kg extracted by aqua regia and 1.35, 26.4, 70.3 and 410 mg/kg extracted by 0.1 N HCl solution for Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn, respectively. These metals are continuously dispersed downstream and downslope from the tailings by clastic movement through wind and water. Because of the existence of sulfides in the tailings, a water sample taken on the tailings site was very acidic with a pH of 2.2, with high total dissolved solids (TDS) of 1845 mg/l and electric conductivity (EC) of 3820 μS/cm. This sample also contained up to 0.27, 1.90, 2.80, 53.4, 4,700 mg/l of Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn and SO42−, respectively. TDS, EC and concentrations of metals in waters decreased with distance from the tailings. The total amount of pulverized limestone needed for neutralizing the acid tailings was estimated to be 46 metric tons, assuming its volume of 45,000 m3 and its bulk density of 1855 kg/m3.  相似文献

The species of Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd and Cr in sediments of the Taihu Lake, China, have been analyzed using the sequential chemical extraction method. Variations in the chemical fractions of these metals and their geographic distributions have also been studied. For all five metals, the residual fraction is highest but the exchangeable fraction is lowest among all the fractions. Compared to other metals, Cd has the highest percentage in the exchangeable fraction, and Cr is associated mainly with the residual fraction. Cu in the organic fraction and Pb in the Fe-Mn fraction are the important species, whereas the lowest percentages are found for Cd in the organic fraction, Cu in the Fe-Mn oxide fraction and Pb in the carbonate fraction. With respect to spatial differences, the total contents in the non-residual fractions of the metals in bay sediments are found to be higher than those in other sediments. The fractions of Cd, Cu and Cr showed significant variations in different regions. The fractions of Pb and Zn, however, did not show significant variations in spatial distribution, suggesting different amounts and different paths of anthropogenic input for the metals. Comparisons of the metal speciation indicated that Cd might be the most bioavailable metal, followed by Pb.  相似文献
