Eclogites are often the only tangible high-pressure evidence we have from a paleosubduction zone, and they potentially preserve important geochemical information from the descending slab. Selected Group B/C eclogites and metapelites from the Trescolmen locality in the Adula nappe in the central Swiss Alps were chosen for a detailed investigation to determine oxygen isotope ratios and major- and trace-element compositions of the main rock-forming minerals. Complex major-element zonation patterns in garnet porphyroblasts indicate a pre-Alpine, medium-pressure growth history coupled with a high-pressure modification during the Alpine orogeny. Garnet REE patterns are notably HREE depleted in rim regions, with high overall REE content, particularly in the cores of grains. Omphacites are relatively homogenous in major elements, and show LREE- and HREE-depleted patterns, but with overall abundances of REEs lower than in garnets. These patterns are best explained by partitioning of the HREEs into garnet and the LREEs into zoisite. Oxygen-isotope systematics indicate limited fluid flow in eclogites and surrounding metapelites. δ18O values of quartz and garnet at the interface between eclogites and metapelites are indistinguishable and point to fluid exchange. Oxygen equilibrium conditions among rock-forming minerals, particularly between quartz and garnet in eclogites and metapelites, were reached, and fractionation indicates temperatures of ~600°C. The δ18O of unaltered eclogites (5.5 to 7.5 ‰) suggests a basaltic, MORB-type protolith.  相似文献

Summary Eclogitised metabasics of early-Alpine age are described from the northern Dora-Maira nappe (internal Pennidic, western Italian Alps), a tectonic element which has become widely known for the coesite-bearing assemblages discovered in its southern part. The P-T conditions inferred in this paper for the eclogitic peak (P = 9–13 kbar, T = 500 ± 50 °C) are much lower than those proposed in the southern Dora-Maira by Chopin (1987) for the coesite-bearing unit. Consequently, only the latter underwent a peculiar early-Alpine evolution at extremely high-pressures and temperatures, while the northern Dora-Maira nappe was eclogitised at P-T conditions comparable to those of the other internal Pennidic units. The post-eclogitic path proposed here for the northern Dora-Maira occurred at isothermal conditions or at slightly increasing temperatures.

Resumé Metabasites éclogitiques d'âge éoalpine sont décrites dans la nappe Dora-Maira septentrionale (Pennique interne, Alpes occidentales italiennes), une unité connue pour la découverte de parageneses à coesite dans le secteur meridional. Les conditions P-T de la recrystallization éclogitique proposées dans ce travail (P = 9–13 kbar, T = 500 ± 50 °C) sont plus basses que les conditions suggerées parChopin (1987) pour les roches de l'unité à coesite. D'autre part ces éstimations des pressions et témperatures sont comparables à celles des autres nappes Penniques internes. La trajectoire post-éclogitique proposée içi pour le Dora-Maira septentrional est caracterisée par une diminution de pression à témperatures plus ou moins constantes (ou légèrment croissantes).

Strain analysis based on initially uniformly oriented elliptical particles in an oolitic limestone (Blegi oolite) was used to study the homogeneity of the state of strain on various scales, kinematics of folding and deformation mechanisms. A computer (reduced means) method for strain analysis is presented which is based on deforming a population of ellipses with shape and orientation properties of measured undeformed ooids. The strain values obtained with this method are within an accuracy of about 10% (in terms of axial ratios) and are in good agreement with the ones obtained with existing graphical methods. The state of strain is homogeneous on the scale of a thin section, handspecimen and outcrop, provided that regions around relatively strong fossils and regions of marked variations in lithology are avoided. Whole rock strains and strains as indicated by ooids alone are similar. Strain patterns in folds in limestones embedded in sandstones, shales and marl are compatible with bending accompanied simultaneously with a shortening perpendicular to the axial surface. The shortening may be attributed to the shear strains related to fold asymmetry and overthrusting. Strains on the outer arcs of a competent dolomite layer compare well with theoretical and experimental fold models; strain patterns include complex contact strains and change along the fold hinge line across a transverse fault which was active during the folding process. Strains parallel to the hinge line are more or less uniform but do not necessarily represent a plane strain state. Volume change took place during deformation. It was accomplished by pressure solution processes, the pressure solved material being partly redeposited. Pressure solution accounts for only a relatively small fraction of the bulk finite strain and was accompanied by plastic flow. Intracrystalline deformation together with grain boundary sliding and/or grain boundary migration went hand in hand with recrystallization (noteably grain growth).  相似文献

Mantle xenoliths in alkaline lavas of the Kerguelen Islandsconsist of: (1) protogranular, Cr-diopside-bearing harzburgite;(2) poikilitic, Mg-augite-bearing harzburgite and cpx-poor lherzolite;(3) dunite that contains clinopyroxene, spinel phlogopite, andrarely amphibole. Trace element data for rocks and mineralsidentify distinctive signatures for the different rock typesand record upper-mantle processes. The harzburgites reflectan initial partial melting event followed by metasomatism bymafic alkaline to carbonatitic melts. The dunites were firstformed by reaction of a harzburgite protolith with tholeiiticto transitional basaltic melts, and subsequently developed metasomaticassemblages of clinopyroxene + phlogopite ± amphiboleby reaction with lamprophyric or carbonatitic melts. We measuredtwo-mineral partition coefficients and calculated mineral–meltpartition coefficients for 27 trace elements. In most samples,calculated budgets indicate that trace elements reside in theconstituent minerals. Clinopyroxene is the major host for REE,Sr, Y, Zr and Th; spinel is important for V and Ti; orthopyroxenefor Ti, Zr, HREE, Y, Sc and V; and olivine for Ni, Co and Sc. In the Southern Alps a progressive metamorphic zonation, with an increase in the geothermal gradient from NE to SW, has been widely proposed. However, recent investigations have shown that the greenschist metamorphic imprint of the low-grade zone corresponds to a metamorphic retrogression following amphibolite facies conditions. On the other hand, in the medium-grade zone, a later low-pressure, high-temperature (LPHT) metamorphic event has also been proposed. In an attempt to resolve these different interpretations, new petrological and partly new structural data have been obtained for two sectors of the Orobic Alps, traditionally attributed to different metamorphic zones. Thermobarometric determinations, supported by microstructural analysis, indicate the following different pressure-retrograde paths in each sector: (1) in the Val Vedello basement (VVB) rocks, a first metamorphic imprint characterized by P = 7–9 kbar and T = 570–610°C was followed by a greenschist retrogression ( P ≤ 4 kbar and T ≤ 500° C); (2) in the Lario basement (LB) rocks, the first detectable metamorphic stage, characterized by mineral assemblages indicating P = 7–9 kbar and T = 550–630° C, was followed by a LPHT event, synkinematic with F2 extensional deformation. A greenschist retrogression marks the final uplift of these rocks.
Reinterpretation of the available geochronological data indicates a diachronism for the two thermomechanical evolutions. In the light of these data, we interpret the retrograde P–T–t path of the VVB rocks as a pre-Permian post-thickening uplift and the retrograde P–T–t evolution of the LB rocks as a Permo-Mesozoic uplift related to the extensional tectonic regime of the Tethyan rifting.  相似文献

通过描述一种利用LA-ICP-MS准确测定含水硅酸盐矿物主量元素和微量元素含量的多外标、无内标分析方法.总结出该方法基于矿物化学计量式计算含水硅酸盐矿物中挥发分的相对含量,再将全部分析元素归一化到总金属氧化物含量(100%减含水量)的原理,利用多种天然成分的岩石标准玻璃(如MPI-DING玻璃和USGS玻璃)作为外标进行校正计算.利用该方法对角闪石、绿帘石、电气石和透闪石等含水硅酸盐矿物进行了分析,并与利用电子探针和微钻(直径300 μm)取样溶液-ICP-MS分析的结果进行了对比研究.研究结果表明:对于组成均一的主量元素的分析结果与电子探针分析数据一致,相对偏差集中在5%以内.除了那些分布异常不均一的元素(在300 μm尺度上),对微量元素的分析结果与溶液-ICP-MS分析结果具有很好的一致性,二者之间的相对偏差大部分集中在10%以内.研究结论为采用归一化校正策略,选择MPI-DING和USGS玻璃作为外标,利用LA-ICP-MS微区分析方法可以准确测定含水硅酸盐矿物中的主、微量元素含量.   相似文献

Summary Polymetamorphic ultramafic rocks in orogenic terranes rarely preserve relic structures or minerals from their former mantle stages. The determination of their protoliths and their tectonic evolution by chemical discrimination methods is often difficult due to possible metasomatic processes. Ultramafics of the pre-Variscan Helvetic basement (Central Alps, Switzerland) have been investigated geochemically to address these problems. These ultramafics are partially to completely serpentinised. According to field observations several ultramafic lenses were part of an ophiolite suite, but distinct cumulate ultramafic lenses were also recognized. CIPW norms indicate that large parts of the ultramafics are harzburgites, but metasomatic CaO depletion may have produced an overestimation of the importance of the harzburgite protoliths. Major element distributions suggest a depleted mantle protolith. Close to chondritic or slightly depleted REE patterns are characteristics of the studied samples. The REE normalized patterns confirm the presence of harzburgites, lherzolites und cumulates. In some samples light REE enrichment processes have occurred. The noble metal concentrations are both affected (Pt-Pd-Au) und unaffected (Ir-Os-Ru) by melt infiltration processes. They suggest the presence of undepleted or slightly enriched harzburgites und more differentiated, probably cumulate ultramafics. Information obtained by different chemical elements leads to contrasting results. REE and noble metals show enrichment inconsistent with the major element depletion. Refertilization of depleted ultramafics is proposed.
Geochemie von polymetamorphen Ultramafiten (Haupt-, Spuren-Elemente, Edelmetalle und Seltene Erden): Ein Beispiel vom Helvetischen Grundgebirge (Zentralalpen, Schweiz)
Zusarnmenfassung Ultramafische Gesteine aus polymetamorphen orogenetischen Terrains enthalten selten Strukturen und Mineralien als Relikte aus ihren Mantelstadien. Bestimmung ihrer Protolithe und deren tektonischen Entwicklung durch geochemische Parameter wird durch metasomatische Prozesse erschwert. Ultramafite aus dem prävariszischen Sockel der Schweizer Zentralalpen wurden geochemisch untersucht, um die Aussagekraft dieser Parameter zu bestimmen. Die untersuchten Gesteine sind teilweise bis völlig serpentinisiert. Aufgrund der Felduntersuchungen wurden die Ultramafite als Teile einer ophiolithischen Suite klassifiziert, aber ultramafische Kumulate anderer Entstehungsgeschichte konnten unterschieden wurden. CIPW-Norm Berechnungen zeigen, daß Harzburgite den größten Anteil der Proben ausmachen, aber metasomatische Abreicherung an Caokönnte die Bedeutung der Harzburgite als Protolithe überbewerten. Haupt- und Spurenelemente weisen auf einen abgereicherten Mantel als Ausgangsgesteinhin. Fast chondritische bzw. leicht abgereicherte Seltene Erden verteilungsmuster sind charakteristisch. Sic belegen auch die harzburgitische, lherzolithische bzw. kumulative Natur der untersuchten Gesteine. Die Edelmetallkonzentrationen sind teilweise primär (Ir, Os, Ru) sowie beeinflußt durch Schmelzinfiltrationen (Pr, Pd und Au). Die Verteilungsmuster der Edelmetalle bezeugen die Natur des abgereicherten Mantels sowie die Gegenwart von höher differenzierten—vermutlich kumulativen—Gesteinen. Die Hinweise aus den geochemischen Untersuchungen führen zu konsistenten Ergebnissen. Die Anreicherung der Seltenen Erden und Edelmetalle ist mit der verarmten Signatur der Hauptelemente nicht vereinbar, daher wird eine sekundäre Elementanreicherung durch Schmelzinfiltration der Ultramafite vorgeschlagen.

本文利用电子探针分析了中国大陆科学钻探工程主孔各种类型榴辉岩中金红石的Nb、Cr和Zr含量。Zack等(2002)的金红石Nb-Cr图解表明榴辉岩的原岩均为镁铁质岩,但不同类型榴辉岩具有不同的地球化学特征,即:1金红石榴辉岩、石英榴辉岩、角闪岩和钛铁矿榴辉岩中金红石的Nb和Cr含量大致相同,主孔中上述榴辉岩中金红石的Nb、Cr含量与区域上小焦金红石矿区金红石榴辉岩中金红石的Nb、Cr含量基本相同。总体来讲,区域和主孔榴辉岩中金红石以低Nb为特征,反映它们的原岩为镁铁质岩石。2蓝晶石多硅白云母榴辉岩中金红石具最高的Nb和Cr含量,其Nb和Cr均值分别为720×10-6和712×10-6,多硅白云母榴辉岩中金红石比金红石榴辉岩、石英榴辉岩、角闪岩和钛铁矿榴辉岩中金红石富集Cr。利用Zack等(2004)提出的金红石地质温度计,计算得出金红石榴辉岩的金红石形成温度介于608~746℃,石英榴辉岩的金红石温度介于629~680℃,钛铁矿榴辉岩金红石的形成温度介于629~704℃,蓝晶石多硅白云母榴辉岩的金红石形成温度为600℃,角闪岩的金红石形成温度为629℃。一种可能的解释是,榴辉岩在折返过程中退变质作用明显,流体活动强烈,导致金红石中Zr扩散丢失,金红石中Zr含量不同程度地受到角闪岩相退变质过程中再平衡作用的影响,致使计算的温度偏低。  相似文献

The traverse of the Central Alps between Lake Constance and Lake Como (eastern Switzerland, northern Italy) allows the reconstruction of a cross-section through a collision belt some 140 km wide and 40 km deep. It can be described in terms of a series of structural zones (A–F), defined by the age and character of the latest phase of penetrative deformation affecting both basement and cover rocks, each zone showing a characteristic structural history. These zones do not coincide with the well-known tectono-stratigraphic Alpine subdivisions (Helvetic, Pennine, Austroalpine) which are based on gross geometry, facies and petrography. Zones A and B, in the north, developed during late Oligocene and Miocene times, affecting the Helvetic realm and the already overlying Pennine and Austroalpine units. Zone A is characterized by a steeply dipping penetrative cleavage SA, zone B by the same cleavage later modified by nappe-forming movements. Zone F, in the south, also developed during the late Oligocene and Miocene, first as a monoclinal flexure, later as a steeply dipping zone of mylonitization and cataclasis (foliation Sf), affecting Pennine and Austroalpine units. The final manifestation of these movements was the Tonale line and their net result was the uplift of the region to the north by about 20 km. Between these two belts lay an area in which late Oligocene-Miocene movements had little effect — structural zones C (Pennine), D (Pennine-Austroalpine transition) and E (Austroalpine). In zones C and D, the latest phase of penetrative deformation, resulting in large recumbent fold structures and a penetrative foliation Sc zone C, can be dated as late Eocene-early Oligocene. This seems to be related to the overriding of the Austroalpine nappe complex (zone E), which already showed the effects of a late Cretaceous orogeny.Unravelling these events backwards, reveals, at the Eocene—Oligocene boundary, a southward dipping subduction zone in the process of locking. Its mouth is full of upper Cretaceous-Eocene flysch; its throat is choked by the Pennine nappe complex, undergoing the sc ductile deformation. Before subduction, the Pennine nappe complex can best be described as a mega-mélange-a tectonic mixture of large fragments of continental basement, oceanic basement, trough-facies cover and platform-facies cover, already showing a complicated structural history. It is supposed that collision started in mid-Cretaceous times, not at a single subduction suture (trench), but by complicated surficial processes across a wide zone, as non-matching, rifted and thinned continental margins approached and small oceanic remnants were obducted. The Braccia gabbro of Val Malenco, Italian Alps, intruded 275My ago during Early Permian lithospheric extension. The intrusiontook place along the crust–mantle transition zone andcaused granulite metamorphism of lower-crustal and upper-mantlerocks. The magmatic crystallization of the gabbro was outlastedby ductile deformation, which is also observed in the otherrocks of the crust–mantle transition. Two stages of retrogrademetamorphism followed. Mineral parageneses in garnet–kyanitegneiss, metagabbro, and metaperidotite record a first stageof near-isobaric cooling under anhydrous conditions. The stabilizedcrust–mantle transition then persisted over a period ofabout 50 My into the Late Triassic. Exhumation of the crust–mantlecomplex began with the onset of continental rifting during EarlyJurassic. This stage of retrograde metamorphism is recordedby near-isothermal decompression and partial hydration of thegranulitic mineral assemblages. The whole crust-to-mantle complexwas then exposed in the Tethyan ocean near its Adriatic margin.The magmatic assemblage of the Braccia gabbro formed at 1–1·2GPa and 1150–1250°C. Microstructures show that thegabbroic rocks evolved from olivine gabbros through spinel togarnet granulite whereas the peridotites recrystallized withinthe spinel peridotite field and the pelitic granulites remainedin the stability field of kyanite. Such an evolution is characteristicof isobaric cooling after magmatic underplating. Summary A garnet peridotite lens from Monte Duria (Adula nappe, Central Alps, Northern Italy) contains porphyroblastic garnet and pargasitic amphibole and reached peak metamorphic conditions of ∼830 C, ∼2.8 GPa. A first stage of near isothermal decompression to pressures <2.0 GPa is characterised by domains where fine grained spinel, clinopyroxene, orthopyroxene and amphibole form. The newly formed amphibole contains elevated levels of fluid mobile elements such as Rb, Ba and Pb indicating that recrystallization was assisted by infiltration of a crustal-derived fluid. Further decompression and cooling to ∼720 °C, 0.7–1.0 GPa associated with limited fluid influx is documented by the formation of orthopyroxene-spinel-amphibole symplectites around garnet. Zircon separated from this garnet peridotite exhibits two distinct zones. Domain 1 displays polygonal oscillatory zoning and high trace element contents. It contains clinopyroxene and amphibole inclusions with the same composition as the same minerals formed during the spinel peridotite equilibration, indicating that this domain formed under sub-solidus conditions during decompression and influx of crustal fluids. Domain 2 has no zoning and much lower trace element contents. It replaces domain 1 and is likely related to zircon recrystallization during the formation of the symplectites. SHRIMP dating of the two domains yielded ages of 34.2 ± 0.2 and 32.9 ± 0.3 Ma, respectively, indicating fast exhumation of the peridotite within the spinel stability field. We suggest that the Duria garnet peridotite originates from the mantle wedge above the tertiary subduction of the European continental margin and that it was assembled to the country rock gneisses between 34 and 33 Ma. Major- and trace-element and Sr–Nd–Hf isotopic compositionsof garnet and clinopyroxene in kimberlite-borne eclogite andpyroxenite xenoliths were used to establish their origins andevolution in the subcontinental lithospheric mantle beneaththe central Slave Craton, Canada. The majority of eclogitescan be assigned to three groups (high-Mg, high-Ca or low-Mgeclogites) that have distinct trace-element patterns. Althoughpost-formation metasomatism involving high field strength element(HFSE) and light rare earth element (LREE) addition has partiallyobscured the primary compositional features of the high-Mg andhigh-Ca eclogites, trace-element features, such as unfractionatedmiddle REE (MREE) to heavy REE (HREE) patterns suggestive ofgarnet-free residues and low Zr/Sm consistent with plagioclaseaccumulation, could indicate a subduction origin from a broadlygabbroic protolith. In this scenario, the low REE and smallpositive Eu anomalies of the high-Mg eclogites suggest moreprimitive, plagioclase-rich protoliths, whereas the high-Caeclogites are proposed to have more evolved protoliths withhigher (normative) clinopyroxene/plagioclase ratios plus trappedmelt, consistent with their lower Mg-numbers, higher REE andabsence of Eu anomalies. In contrast, the subchondritic Zr/Hfand positive slope in the HREE of the low-Mg eclogites are similarto Archaean second-stage melts and point to a previously depletedsource for their precursors. Low ratios of fluid-mobile to lessfluid-mobile elements and of LREE to HREE are consistent withdehydration and partial melt loss for some eclogites. The trace-elementcharacteristics of the different eclogite types translate intolower Nd for high-Mg eclogites than for low-Mg eclogites. Withinthe low-Mg group, samples that show evidence for metasomaticenrichment in LREE and HFSE have lower Nd and Hf than a samplethat was apparently not enriched, pointing to long-term evolutionat their respective parent–daughter ratios. Garnet andclinopyroxene in pyroxenites show different major-element relationshipsfrom those in eclogites, such as an opposite CaO–Na2Otrend and the presence of a CaO–Cr2O3 trend, independentof whether or not opx is part of the assemblage. Therefore,these two rock types are probably not related by fractionationprocesses. The presence of opx in about half of the samplesprecludes direct crystallization from eclogite-derived melts.They probably formed from hybridized melts that reacted withthe peridotitic mantle. Structural studies were carried out along the northern part of the Simplon line in order to constrain the kinematic history of the line during Tertiary times. The ductile strain accumulated within both basement units and Mesozoic cover reveals the upper units sheared towards the west-southwest. The Simplon line can be described as a major shear zone along which the main movement occurred perpendicular to the line. This shearing developed during retrograde metamorphic conditions and postdates earlier deformations associated with the high temperature Lepontine episode. Finally, it was followed by the formation of the Berisal syncline (back-folding episode) which generated some brittle movements towards the south, localized at the contact between the lower and upper Pennine units (i.e. on the Simplon line).  相似文献

We explore the controls of the litho‐tectonic architecture on the erosional flux in the 370‐km2 Glogn basin (European Alps). In this basin, the bedding and schistosity of the bedrock dip parallel to the topographic slope on the NW valley flank, leading to a non‐dip slope situation on the opposite SE valley side. While the dip slope condition has promoted the occurrence of landslides (e.g. the c. 30‐km2 deep‐seated Lumnezia landslide), the opposite non‐dip slope side of the valley hosts >100‐m‐deeply incised tributary streams. 10Be concentrations of stream sediments yield catchment‐averaged denudation rates that vary between 0.27 ± 0.03 and 2.19 ± 0.37 mm a?1, while the spatially averaged denudation rate of the entire basin is 1.99 ± 0.34 mm a?1. Our 10Be‐based approach reveals that the Lumnezia landslide front contributes c. 30–65% of the entire sediment budget, although it covers <5% of the Glogn basin. This suggests a primary control of the bedrock bedding on erosion rates and processes.  相似文献
