Since the first workshop on ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) metamorphism at Stanford in 1994 and the special issue of The Island Arc `Ultrahigh-Pressure Metamorphism and Tectonics' published in December 1995, many symposia and special sessions specifically with regard to the UHP metamorphic terrane have been held. While we are still wondering how exhumation of UHP rocks from mantle depths to the surface takes place, the finding of possible records from the mantle transition zone at 300–400 km depths is astonishing. The study of the UHP regime has expanded to include input from mineral physics, experimental geochemistry and kinetics in addition to the petrochemical and tectonic study of a variety of HP–UHP rocks. It was with this theme that the second workshop for the task group III-6 `Ultrahigh-Pressure Metamorphism and Geodynamics in Collision-type Orogenic Belts' of the International Lithosphere Program was held during the International Geological Congress in Beijing, 1996. The Symposium 8–9 `Dynamic Metamorphic Rocks and High- and Ultrahigh-Pressure Metamorphism' (Cong Bolin & J. G. Liou conveners) had more than 25 presentations in two oral sessions and 70 papers in one poster session. This second special issue of The Island Arc includes nine papers from this symposium and a few related contributions to the geodynamics of HP–UHP metamorphism and tectonics. It is our hope that The Island Arc will continue to publish a special issue on this increasingly recognized subject that is essential to our understanding of continental collision, mantle dynamics and geochemical + fluid cycles. 相似文献

We have developed new basic theories for calculating the conversion point and the travel time of the P-SV converted wave (C-wave)
in anisotropic, inhomogeneous media. This enables the use of conventional procedures such as semblance analysis, Dix-type
model building and Kirchhoff summation, to implement anisotropic processing, and makes anisotropic processing affordable.
Here we present these new developments in two parts: basic theory and application to velocity analysis and parameter estimation.
This part deals with the basic theory, including both conversion-point calculation and moveout analysis.
Existing equations for calculating the PS-wave (C-wave) conversion point in layered media with vertical transverse isotropy
(VTI) are strictly limited to offsets about half the reflector depth (an offset-depth ratio, xlz, of 0.5), and those for calculating the C-wave traveltimes are limited to offsets equal to the reflector depth (x/z=l.0). In contrast, the new equations for calculating the conversion-point extend into offsets about three-times the reflector
depth (x/z=3.0), those for calculating the C-wave traveltimes extend into offsets twice the reflector depth (x/z=2.0). With the improved accuracy, the equations can help in C-wave data processing and parameter estimation in anisotropic,
inhomogeneous media.

in the British Geological Survey. He also holds a honorary professorship in multicomponent seismology at the School of Geosciences,
University of Edinburgh. He received his BSc(1982) in Geophysics from Changchun Geological Institute, China, an MSc (1984)
in applied geophysics from East China Petroleum Institute (now known as the China University of Petroleum), and a PhD (1992)
in seismology from the University of Edinburgh. During 1984–1987, he worked as a lecturer with the East China Petroleum Institute.
Since 1991, he has been employed by the British Geological Survey. His research interests include seismic anisotropy and multicomponent

由于调查研究资料有限,目前对藏北高原内部近EW向的伸展变形样式和具体调节机制一直存在诸多争议。最新开展的地表调查在藏北高原西部的别若则错新发现了1条长约20km、走向近NNW的走滑断裂。该断裂表现出断塞塘、水系错动及断层崖等典型的走滑断裂变形标志。水系错动及构造地貌显示,别若则错断裂是以右旋走滑运动为主、兼具明显正断分量的张扭性断层,是高原内部近EW向伸展变形的产物。通过与羌塘古大湖进行对比分析,认为该断裂错断的最新地貌体是晚更新世的冲洪积扇,未错断全新世扇体,且断崖坡角已显著变缓,表明其最新活动时间可能为晚更新世。综合分析地表调查和遥感影像的错断位移恢复结果,发现最新一次断裂活动的最大右旋走滑位移约2~3m。晚更新世早—中期冲洪积扇体的累积最大右旋走滑位移约44m,垂直错动约2m,由此推测该断裂晚第四纪以来走滑速率约1mm/a,显示弱走滑变形特征。别若则错断裂近NNW的走向与印度和欧亚板块碰撞的主压应力轴(σ1)的夹角约30°,而已发现的区域性共轭走滑断裂与σ1呈约60°~75°的较大夹角,两者显著不同,表明藏北地区共轭走滑断裂带的组合方式可能存在不同的样式:一种是钝角,可能与拉萨和羌塘地体内的剪切作用或块体挤出有关;另一种是锐角,可能代表着新生破裂特征,推测其可能与高原内部近SN向正断层的N向的延伸有关,其成因机制仍需进一步研究。 相似文献
