The ability of a 1.2-MHz Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) to measure suspended sediment concentration (SSC) and particle size variation in a mud-dominated environment has been investigated. Experiments were conducted in the Bay of Banten, Indonesia, where clays and silts in the range of 3–55 μm are prevalent. The ADCP backscatter depends both on SSC and on the size of the scatterers. Over the time span of several separate deployments, which lasted 20 days at most, SSC was found to be proportional to the acoustically normative grain size squared. Using this relation, the ADCP could be calibrated to yield depth profiles of SSC. The obtained calibrations, however, were spatially and seasonally dependent. Differences between the calibrations could not be completely ascribed to variation in grain size distributions, due to the largely unknown influences of aggregates and organic scatterers. The ADCP backscatter measurements provided insight into diurnal events of erosion and subsequent deposition. An increase or decrease of SSC generally coincided with a raise or decline of the average grain size in the sediment suspension (respectively).  相似文献

利用黄河口海床基声学多普勒流速剖面仪(ADCP)的周日观测资料对悬浮物浓度进行了反演,反演过程中综合考虑了球面扩散、声学近场的非球面扩散、海水和悬浮颗粒的吸收衰减以及其他因素对回声信号的影响,结果表明在粒径保持相对稳定的情况下,利用ADCP仪回声强度反演悬浮物浓度具有较高的精度.结合现场激光粒度仪(LISST-100)测得的粒径分布信息在反演过程中考虑了粒径修正,重点讨论了观测区域粒径变化对结果的影响,结果表明粒径的剧烈变化会降低体积后向散射强度与悬浮物浓度之间的相关性.大颗粒物质的存在使计算得到的悬浮物浓度偏高,粒径修正虽然在一定程度上消除了这种影响,但线性拟合的相关性并未提高.  相似文献

作者采用浊度计和声学多普勒流速剖面仪(ADCP)在近海区域连续、定点观测的应用中,利用浊度与悬沙浓度之间良好的线性关系,对潮汐半月周期内的浊度和ADCP后向散射声强数据进行相关性分析,讨论了小、中、大潮期间利用ADCP后向散射声强反演悬沙浓度的可靠性,反演过程中综合考虑了声学近场非球面扩散和本底噪声的影响。结果表明,在实验海域中,小潮情况下,各水层内悬浮泥沙成分较为稳定,ADCP后向散射声强与浊度变化相关性较高,达到0.91;而在大潮情况下,ADCP后向散射声强与浊度变化的相关性降低,悬沙浓度及成分容易在海流的影响下发生变化。  相似文献

The purpose of the present contribution is to explore the technique to use Acoustic Doppler Current Pro- filers (ADCPs) for suspended sediment flux measurements, which may be applied to coastal embayment environments such as estuaries and tidal inlets for sediment exchange and budget studies. Based on tidal cycle measurements from the entrance of ]iaozhou Bay, Shandong Peninsula, eastern China, statistical rela- tionships between the suspended sediment concentration (SSC) and ADCP echo intensity output are estab- lished. Echo intensity data obtained during an ADCP survey along two cross-sections during a spring tidal phase were transformed into SSC data. The ADCP current velocity and SSC data were then used to calculate the flux of fine-grained sediment. The results show that net sediment transport at the entrance is directed towards the open sea, with an order of magnitude of 103 t per spring tidal cycle; hence, although Jiaozhou Bay is a low SSC environment, the tidally induced suspended sediment transport can be intense.  相似文献

Water temperature,turbidity,chlorophyll-a and suspended sediment concentration (SSC) were investigated at 61 stations of eight sections in the southern Huanghai Sea (HS) and the East China Sea (ECS) during the summer (28 June to 15 July) of 2006.The horizontal distribution of suspended parti culate matter (SPM) displayed a high concentration inshore and a low value offshore.The maximum value can reach 10.4 mg/dm 3,which can be found at the Changjiang River mouth.For the same site,the SSC was generally higher at the bottom than on the surface.In the vertical direction,distribution characteristics of turbidity can be divided into two types:in the southern HS high values at the bottom while low values on the surface,and in the ECS high values inshore with low values offshore.The thermocline in the HS and the Taiwan Warm Current in the ECS could be important factors preventing the SPM from diffusing upward and seaward.Even the typhoon Ewiniar was not able to work on the major sediment transport under the thermocline during the observation.  相似文献

为实时、连续地测量海水中悬浮沉积物,利用声学多普勒海流剖面仪(ADCP),可以在测流的同时,测量海洋悬浮沉积物浓度。描述了利用后散射强度,估计悬浮沉积物浓度的原理。在现场测试中,利用采水器采集水样,通过水样分析并结合声信号的衰减特征对AI)CP的测量结果进行修正。作者还结合现场测试结果,对这一测量方法的精度进行了分析。现场实验表明,经公式校正后,ADCP测得的后散射强度与实测水样所获得的悬浮沉积物浓度之间有很好的相关性,相关系数达0.88,由此证明,此测量方法具有很好的实用价值和应用前景。  相似文献

本测定方法利用元素分析 同位素质谱 (EA IRMS)分析系统 ,设计改装了一套适用于大气氮标定钢瓶氮同位素的封闭分析系统 ,并建立了测定悬浮颗粒物中氮同位素的分析方法 .将海水样品经 45 0℃预燃烧过的玻璃纤维滤膜过滤 ,获得悬浮颗粒物 .设定大气δ1 5N值为零 ,连续进样 12次 ,测定大气氮的δ1 5Nair 值为 ( 0 .0 2±0 .0 3)‰ ;并对参考气高纯钢瓶氮进行了标定 ,其δ1 5Nair值为 ( -0 .0 9± 0 .0 2 )‰ ;其离子强度在 0 .5 0~ 6 .0V之间具有良好的线性 ,样品分析精度优于 0 .15‰ .采用该方法实测 5 8份海水悬浮颗粒物 ,获得1 5N天然丰度平均值为 0 .36 7% .  相似文献

Measurements are reported from two side-looking Doppler systems, which were used to study the discharge front located off the mouth of Chesapeake Bay. One system was a commercial 300-kHz narrow-band acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP), which was mounted at a depth of 0.6 m on the port side of a research ship. The other was a prototype X-band, vertically polarized, Doppler radar mounted at a height of about 4 m on the starboard side. Both velocity and backscatter intensity were measured along two beams to ranges of 120 m (ADCP) and 200 m (radar), so that by sailing alternately on each side of the front it was possible to make nearly simultaneous across-front measurements with both systems. Despite the differences in acoustic and radar scattering mechanisms, a combined backscatter intensity surface map could be made showing a continuous frontal signature about 10-m wide and 20 dB above background levels. Each system was also able to measure the same large-scale velocity change across the front, which was dominated by the discharging buoyant bay water flowing at about 50 cm/s relative to the ambient continental shelf water. However, within a 60-m wide zone, the radar system measured velocities up to 75 cm/s larger than the ADCP. Such large velocity differences arose from the radar's sensitivity to motions associated with waves reflecting from the region of strongest across-front current convergence. This frontal convergence was resolved only by the ADCP, which showed a horizontal current change of about 25 cm/s over 10 m and appeared to extend over the upper 2 m or so of the water column. These results show that the combined information from the acoustic and radar systems provide a more complete picture of the frontal currents and wave-current interactions than either system could provide alone  相似文献

Moored sonobuoys are used for refraction seismic measurements at sea, although the range of operation is limited by the self noise caused by the hydrophone suspension.In this paper the main causes of self noise are discussed and a useful deployment scheme of a moored sonobuoy with suspended hydrophone is described.Some design criteria, in particular an equation for calculation of the optimal length of the expandable rubber band-which is situated between the surface float and the damping-body-are discussed.Finally, it is shown from noise measurements during the F. S. Valdivia cruise in 1975, that self noise level in the band 2 Hz to 20 Hz is 180 mPa to 280 mPa at a fully developed windsea with a characteristic wave height of more than 4 meters and a waterstream velocity about 0.5 m s1.During these measurements the hydrophone was attached to the cable without rubber band. It is concluded that at a normal seastate the self noise level can be reduced to the order of ocean floor noise.  相似文献

The present study deals with the content and composition of sterols of the marine-suspended matter in the surface sea water of Kagoshima-Bay. The suspended matters were separated into 3 fractions by filtration with the glass and millipore filters. The sterols in each fraction were analyzed by gas-liquid chromatography on 1.5 % SE-30. The results obtained are as follows: 1) The sterol contents ranged from 2.3 to 20.5g/liter of sea water. 2) Cholesterol was usually present as a predominant sterol in both suspended and dissolved matters. 3) A relatively large amount of other sterols such as 22-dehydro-cholesterol, campesterol, stigmasterol,-sitosterol, and fucosterol were occasionally detected.  相似文献

Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP), designed for measuring velocity profiles, are widely used for the estimation of suspended sediment concentration from acoustic backscatter strength, but its application to estuarine environments requires further refinement. In this study, we examined the inversion capability of two ADCPs with 600 and 1200 kHz in three Korean estuaries: the supra-macrotidal Han River Estuary (HRE), microtidal Nakdong River Estuary (NRE), and anthropogenically altered macrotidal Yeongsan River Estuary (YRE). In particular, we examined the relative importance of the sound attenuations due to water (αw) and sediment (αs) in response to sediment characteristics (size and concentration) as well as changing salinity and temperature. The inverted concentration was compared with reference concentrations obtained either from water samples or Optical Backscatter Sensors. In NRE and YRE, where suspended sediment concentrations were less than 0.2 g/l, the acoustic inversion performed poorly only with αs (r = 0.20 and 0.38 for NRE and YRE, respectively), but well with αw (r = 0.66 and 0.42 for NRE and YRE, respectively). Thus, it is important to accurately constrain αw in low-concentration estuarine environments. However, we did not find that the varying αw performed considerably better than the constant αw. On the other hand, the acoustic inversion was poorest at HRE regardless of αw and αs (r = 0.71 and mean relative error = 45%). The large discrepancy appears to result from the poorly constrained, spatially and temporally varying sediment characteristics (grain size, density and concentration) due to non-local sediment transport in the macrotidal HRE.  相似文献

在金塘水道西口门2006年冬季和2007年夏季大、小潮期间应用美国RDI公司生产的300 kHz声学多普勒流速剖面仪(ADCP)进行25 h的走航式断面观测,同步采集水样过滤获得悬沙浓度.实测断面流速、流向表明:落潮时流向为东南向,涨潮时分两股,靠近北仑为西南向,靠近金塘岛为西北向;夏季大潮最大流速为260 cm/s,大于冬季大潮;观测期间断面悬沙浓度为0.4~1.5 g/L,冬季大于夏季约0.3~0.5 g/L;ADCP后向散射强度冬季大于夏季约5 dB.应用实测CTD数据进行声吸收系数校正,通过计算,断面后向散射强度分布趋势基本不变.后向散射强度与悬沙浓度成正比,与水深成正比,垂向分布与潮时有关,冬季小潮水深增大时,后向散射强度反而减小.回归ADCP后向散射强度与水样悬沙浓度之间半经验半理论统计关系,发现冬季不成线性关系,夏季成线性关系,且相关性较好,相关系数为0.7,说明夏季较高浓度下后向散射强度可以表示悬沙浓度的大小.夏季大、小潮期间高分辨率的悬沙浓度断面数据分析表明,反演后的悬沙浓度值与流速成正比;近岸悬沙浓度大于断面中部;涨急和落急时同一水深高低含沙量值错落分布,涨憩和落憩则分层明显;大潮悬沙浓度大于小潮流约0.05 g/L.断面两端点反演后的悬沙浓度与实测值比较,呈现半日潮含沙量双峰特征,夏季大潮反演后的悬沙浓度与实测值分布一致,实测值大于0.9 g/L时,两者量值相差大,小潮则拟合很好.因此,应用走航式ADCP测量高悬沙浓度是可行的,它可大大提高测量效率,为获取现场悬沙浓度提供了一种新方法.  相似文献

Depth-averaged, one-dimensional and two-dimensional numerical models of bed and suspended particulate sediment transport provide unreliable answers for siltation and erosion quantities in situations dominated by three-dimensional flow patterns, as occur in harbour entrances due to flow separation and wind and density currents. Consequently, a numerical scheme has been developed which solves the complete three-dimensional diffusion-advection equation for suspended sediment concentration and thereby makes possible the study of siltation problems in complex, three-dimensional flows. The model analogue is based on a splitting technique and employs a mixed characteristics and finite difference approach. The accuracy and usefulness of the resulting scheme have been investigated by applying it to a number of hypothetical situations and to a laboratory situation involving the transport and dispersal of lightweight sediment. The results of the various tests show that the proposed approach works well and provides a useful basis for the study of practical problems.  相似文献

Particulate matter from the nepheloid layer and from regions of clearer water have been examined under the light microscope to determine particle concentration, size and composition. The total count of suspended particles is a basic difference between water samples from nepheloid layers of the North American and Brazil basins, and samples from the clearer water over the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in both the North and South Atlantic. The nepheloid layer of the North American Basin has four times, and the Brazil Basin three times the particle density of clearer water over the mid-ocean ridge. A greater percentage of particles of < 2 μ size prevails in nepheloid water ranging from 85–96% as compared to a range of 76–87% in the clear water. Non-opaque mineral grains form the major constituent.  相似文献

In order to clarify detailed current structures over the continental shelf margin in the East China Sea, ADCP measurements were carried out in summers in 1991 and 1994 by the quadrireciprocal method (Katoh, 1988) for removing diurnal and semidiurnal tidal flows from observed flows, together with CTD measurements. We discussed the process of the Tsushima Current formation in the East China Sea. The Tsushima Current with a volume transport of 2 Sv (1 Sv=106 m3s–1) was found north of 31°N. A current with a volume transport of 0.4 Sv was clearly found along the 100 m isobath. Between the Kuroshio and the current along the 100 m isobath, southeastward component of velocity was dominant compared to northwestward one. Four eastward to southeastward currents were found over the sea bed shallower than 90 m depth. Total volume transport of these four currents was 1 Sv, and they seemed to be originated from the Taiwan Strait. Intrusion of offshore water into the inner shelf northwest of Amami Oshima was estimated to have a volume transport of 0.6 Sv. It is concluded that the Tsushima Current is the confluence of these currents over the continental shelf margin with the offshore water intruding northwest of Amami Oshima.  相似文献

A high-frequency multifrequency coastal radar operating at four frequencies between 4.8 and 21.8 MHz was used as part of the third Chesapeake Bay Outflow Plume Experiment (COPE-3) during October and November, 1997. The radar system surveyed the open ocean east of the coast and just south of the mouth of Chesapeake Bay from two sites separated by about 20 km. Measurements were taken once an hour, and the eastward and northward components of ocean currents were estimated at four depths ranging from about 0.5 m to 2.5 m below the surface for each location on a 2 by 2 km grid. Direction of arrival of the signals was estimated using the MUSIC algorithm. The radar measurements were compared to currents measured by several moored acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) with range bins 2-14 m below the water surface. The vertical structure of the current was examined by utilizing four different radar wavelengths, which respond to ocean currents at different depths, and by using several ADCP range bins separated by 1-m intervals. The radar and ADCP current estimates were highly correlated and showed similar depth behavior, and there was significant correlation between radar current estimates at different wavelengths and wind speed  相似文献
