“Political-industrial ecology” has been proposed as an emerging subfield of nature-society geography. In mapping out the landscape of this subfield, this paper develops a typology of three approaches to connecting politics and industrial ecology: (1) Integrative research that incorporates social, political, policy, institutional, and/or spatial considerations into industrial ecology analyses (“politics in industrial ecology”); (2) Complementary research that couples findings or frameworks from industrial ecology with social and political research (“politics and industrial ecology”); and (3) Critical research that examine how values, norms, groups, political relations, or institutions shape the production, interpretation, and usage of industrial ecology knowledge (“politics of industrial ecology”). This broad framing of political-industrial ecology invites contributions from many social sciences, including political ecology, political geography, political economy, sociology, public policy, management, environmental history, and science and technology studies. 相似文献

Individuals and institutions cooperate with expectations of improved effectiveness and efficiency. In this paper, partnership in rice research is examined. We begin by identifying the underlying rationale for partnership vis-a-vis independent initiatives: that the benefits of working together exceed the corresponding costs. We argue that benefits are derived principally from shared interests and differences, while the major costs of partnership emerge from the need to negotiate roles and responsibilities and to exchange information. We then focus on IRRI's experience — its partners and the various collaborative mechanisms employed. Historically the national agricultural research systems have been IRRI's principal research partners. Of late the number and diversity of partners have grown, bringing significant challenges to IRRI's management approach and structure. Increased cooperation with rice farming communities, consumers, non-government organizations, advanced research institutions, and the private sector is anticipated. The emergence of research consortia as a partnership mechanism introduces the problem of indirect management, in which there is a separation of responsibility and accountability — both for IRRI and its partners. Collaborative eScience research teams are impeded by difficulties defining problems that provide research opportunities for
all participants. Problem formulation occurs early in the collaboration process when the demand for ideas is high. However,
cross-disciplinary linkages and integrated conceptual frameworks from which strong interdisciplinary ideas emerge do not evolve
until later. The process of co-creating interdisciplinary research ideas is fundamentally a learning problem; participants
from different disciplines must learn enough about each other’s research interests to construct an integrated conceptual framework
from which joint problems of interest can be created. However, participants rarely have the conceptual background needed to
easily understand research topics in other disciplines; hence methods for enabling rapid learning in these situations are
needed. Team interactions that more effectively generate interdisciplinary ideas can be enabled based on a better understanding
the process of cross-disciplinary, collaborative learning. This article postulates several models of collaborative learning
in these settings and discusses the implications for orchestrating team activities to achieve better outcomes. 相似文献

This paper reviews the development of multi-purpose geochemical mapping and the progress of research in applied environmental geochemistry and health at Imperial College over the past 40 years. With funding from the research councils, UK government, EU, industry and NGOs, research has provided the basis for postgraduate training in areas ranging from the applications of geochemistry to plant, agricultural livestock and wildlife nutrition, to evaluating contamination from metalliferous mining and smelting, understanding the chemical nature of the urban environment and relationships between geochemistry and human health and disease. Examples include (1) the influence of Mo in marine black shales on the Cu nutrition of grazing cattle and sheep, (2) the importance of soil ingestion on trace element intake and metabolism and metal exposure in farm livestock, (3) the impacts of soil contamination from historical metalliferous mining and smelting on agriculture and human exposure to metals, including potential health problems from Cd at Shipham and from As in SW England, (4) the growth of urban geochemistry and the importance of Pb in the urban environment, (5) the health impacts due to Hg losses from the informal sector Au mining in Brazil, and (6) health issues relating to F- excess and Se deficiency in China. 相似文献

流体是地球各圈层之间相互作用的纽带,在成岩、成矿过程中起着十分重要的作用。目前,流体的研究主要集中在流体对先存矿物岩石进行的交代作用方面,而对流体直接结晶形成的矿物领域研究较少。文中根据作者近几年的研究成果对从流体直接结晶而成的矿物——流体晶以及流体晶矿物组合、流体岩等的定义、特征进行了归纳总结。最新的研究结果显示:岩浆中可以含有大量的流体,这些流体来源既可以是岩浆演化富集、岩浆与围岩相互作用产生,亦可以是外部来源。因此,流体晶矿物、流体岩在自然界应该是普遍存在的。流体晶矿物的提出将深化人们对地质过程的理解,发展岩石学及矿床学的研究新领域,有利于矿床勘探和成矿预测。 相似文献

在内蒙古东部喀喇沁地区早中生代大营子闪长岩中首次发现基性麻粒岩捕虏体.初步研究表明它们不同于华北克拉通地表出露的前寒武纪麻粒岩.根据其主要造岩矿物斜方辉石、单斜辉石、黑云母及斜长石的电子探针分析结果, 重点研究了各主要造岩矿物的化学成分特点, 并讨论了麻粒岩捕虏体的变质作用温压条件.研究结果表明, 捕虏体岩石的变质作用已达麻粒岩相, 其变质作用条件约为850~900 ℃, 0.6~1.0 GPa.这些麻粒岩捕虏体反映了研究区早中生代下地壳的组成特点, 为恢复该区早中生代深部地壳结构提供了依据. 相似文献

The paper argues that livelihoods research in situations of violent conflict and its aftermath can contribute to geographical
understandings of flexibility. Such settings paradoxically demand greater flexibility from economic actors while imposing
new and sometimes severe constraints on them to exercise it. These constraints often have spatial aspects. The paper explores
these issues through research on return of the displaced in Casamance, Senegal. It analyses the dynamics of reoccupation and
exploitation by villagers of their former habitable and agricultural spaces amid improving but still problematic security
conditions. Flexibility is most visible in the new settlement forms adopted in villages undergoing reconstruction, mainly
reflecting security issues. It is also evident in shifting patterns of economic activity and the reconfiguration of local
political space. However, such flexibility transcends the situation under study and has long been described in livelihoods

Epikarst water, which is one of the most important water resources in karst mountain areas, is extremely sensitive to mining activities. Acid mine drainage (AMD) with high levels of heavy metals can degrade the water quality. A typical coalfield basin was chosen to research the migration process of heavy metals. It was found that the chemical compositions of the stream water in the research field were controlled by the dissolution of carbonate rocks or/and the weathering and oxidation of pyrite in the mining area. Excluding a few sites in the mining area, As(V) was dominant species of arsenic in the form of H2AsO4 ? or HAsO4 2? in the research field. Based on the mass balance concept, it was found that fluxes of As, Zn, Cu and Cd in water from the mining area (site 17) affected by AMD were 18, 871, 281 and 12 kg year?1, respectively. Also, concentrations of Cd, Zn, As and Cu in the stream water decreased along the flow, because these ions deposited from the water to the stream bed as the redistribution processes in environment. 相似文献

This article advances critical geographies of youth through examining the spatiality implicit in the imagined futures of young women in rural India. Geographers and other scholars of youth have begun to pay more attention to the interplay between young people’s past, present, and imagined futures. Within this emerging body of scholarship the role of the family and peer group in influencing young people’s orientations toward the future remain underexamined. Drawing on eleven months of ethnographic fieldwork, my research focuses on a first generation of college-going young women from socioeconomically marginalized backgrounds in India’s westernmost state of Gujarat. I draw on the “possible selves” theoretical construct in order to deploy a flexible conceptual framework that links imagined post-educational trajectories with motivation to act in the present. In tracing the physical movement of these young women as they navigate and complete college, my analysis highlights the ways in which particular kinds of spaces and spatial arrangements facilitate and limit intra- and inter-generational contact, and the extent to which this affects young women’s conceptions of the future. I conclude by considering the wider implications of my research for ongoing debates surrounding youth transitions, relational geographies of age, and education in the Global South. 相似文献

采用偏光显微镜薄片观察、电子探针及背散射图像、阴极发光等方法,分别对伟晶岩矿脉和顺层剪切带矿脉两种产出状态的云南麻栗坡祖母绿进行了系统的包裹体特征研究。结果表明,云南麻栗坡祖母绿具有产地特征的包裹体有黑色镁电气石、含钒的白云母、具有环带的钾长石、毒砂、镁质黑云母、白钨矿包裹体。伟晶岩脉和顺层剪切带中的祖母绿均含有钾长石、钠长石、电气石、萤石、祖母绿(绿柱石)、黑云母、榍石、磷灰石、黄铁矿、绿泥石、绿帘石包裹体。白云母、方解石、石英、锆石、毒砂、闪锌矿、方铅矿、透辉石仅出现在伟晶岩脉中的祖母绿包裹体中;而白钨矿仅出现在顺层剪切带中的祖母绿包裹体中。对云南不同产状祖母绿矿物包裹体的研究不仅对祖母绿的产地鉴定具有宝石学意义,也对揭示云南麻栗坡祖母绿的成因类型具有重要意义。 相似文献

1977年至1981年,313地质队在银沙地区开展银矿普查时,发现了爆发角砾岩型钼矿化和正长岩型铌矿化。但由于历史的原因,没有对Mo、Nb矿化特征进行深入研究。本文在利用以往资料的基础上,分析研究控矿条件和地质特征、矿化特征等,在此基础上正确划分和圈连矿体,发现Mo、Nb矿体规模可观,明显具有进一步工作的资源潜质。 相似文献

概要地回顾了近年来国内外湖泊沉积物中重金属环境污染方面的研究成果,介绍了湖相沉积物重金属研究的主要内容、方法和可能的发展方向。认为就重金属成因方面应加强区分其主要来源是岩石和矿物风化的碎屑产物、大气降尘、人类活动等的研究;重金属污染方面更应重视污染物质的生物有效性、迁移转化机理和重金属“二次污染”的研究;研究手段上,注重运用同位素示踪与定年技术来研究重金属的来源和污染历史,应用高分辨率沉积物钻心研究环境的变迁。最后提出加强多学科的综合研究,建立中国湖泊基准数据库,为探讨湖泊湿地的可持续发展提供依据。 相似文献

The Heretaunga Plains, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, is underlain by Quaternary fluvial, estuarine-lagoonal, and marine deposits
infilling a subsiding syncline. Within the depositional sequence, river-channel gravels form one of the most important aquifer
systems in New Zealand. An interconnected unconfined–confined aquifer system contains groundwater recharged from the Ngaruroro
River bed at the inland margin of the plain, 20 km from the coast. At the coast, gravel aquifers extend to a depth of 250 m.
In 1994–95, 66 Mm3 of high quality groundwater was abstracted for city and rural water supply, agriculture, industry, and horticulture. Use
of groundwater, particularly for irrigation, has increased in the last 5 years. Concern as to the sustainability of the groundwater
resource led to a research programme (1991–96). This paper presents the results and recommends specific monitoring and research
work to refine the groundwater balance, and define and maintain the sustainable yield of the aquifer system. Three critical
management factors are identified. These are (1) to ensure maintenance of consistent, unimpeded groundwater recharge from
the Ngaruroro River; (2) to specifically monitor groundwater levels and quality at the margins of the aquifer system, where
transmissivity is <5000 m2/d and summer groundwater levels indicate that abstraction exceeds recharge; (3) to review groundwater-quality programs to
ensure that areas where contamination vulnerability is identified as being highest are covered by regular monitoring.

As diaspora strategies have become an integral aspect of national economic development strategies, so too have universities begun to formally identify and mobilise diasporic scientists, researchers and scholars in an effort to create global knowledge networks. This paper will identify this new role for diasporic academics. It begins by emphasising the increasing internationalisation of the academic labour market, arguing that an increasing number of researchers have multiple national affiliations and relationships. It shows how diasporic academics have become central to the creation of global knowledge networks. These knowledge networks derive from multiple sources including the institutional ambitions of universities who are seeking to expand their research remits in increasingly resource constrained environments, international and national funding bodies who are increasingly focused on research ‘grand challenges’, and the aspirations of individual researchers for whom global networks are increasingly important to successful careers. 相似文献

The decline of a model community-based conservation project: Governance, capacity, and devolution in Mahenye, Zimbabwe 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper reports the results of our research, conducted from June to August 2004, on the community-based conservation project in Mahenye, Zimbabwe. Previous studies have described this project as a model example of Zimbabwe’s CAMPFIRE program. We explore the project’s recent performance within the context of the country’s post-2000 political and economic crisis and address the implications of our findings for arguments supporting devolution of authority for natural resource management to the community level. These issues are related in that calls for devolution are at least partly contingent on the demonstrated capacity of local institutions to manage projects in the community interest despite difficult circumstances. In our research, we found that outcomes in Mahenye have deteriorated sharply from conditions described in earlier studies. We found further that local failures of leadership combined with the withdrawal of outside agencies responsible for oversight and assistance may be more to blame for this decline than the ongoing national turmoil. Our results suggest that even in apparently successful conservation and development projects, local participatory decision-making institutions are fragile and require continuing external support. Consequently, we argue for caution in promoting full devolution of authority to the community level without safeguards to maintain good governance and adequate capacity. 相似文献
