Using the classification scheme for planetary nebulae in the Magellanic Clouds using four criteria proposed in Paper I, all nebulae are divided into three classes on the basis of the mass of their central stars. The features of individual chemical abundances in the Magellanic Cloud planetary nebulae and the way in which these differ from the galactic planetary nebulae are investigated separately for each class of nebulae. The role of CN and ON cycling in intermediate mass star evolution is discussed.  相似文献

Dependencies of galactic planetary nebula chemical abundances and their central star masses on the distance from the galactic plane are discussed.Z-dependencies of He/H, N/H, N/O and Ar/H and dependencies of He/H, N/H, N/O, Ne/H and Ar/H on central star mass are found. Three galactic planetary nebula distance scale samples are used and it is shown that the distance scale system (where distances of each planetary nebula mass class are determined with the separate scale) is the most reliable. The correlations obtained for the Magellanic Cloud planetary nebulae are used for comparison.  相似文献

The catalogue of protoplanetary nebulae by Vickers et al. has been supplemented with the line-of-sight velocities and proper motions of their central stars from the literature. Based on an exponential density distribution, we have estimated the vertical scale height from objects with an age less than 3 Gyr belonging to the Galactic thin disk (luminosities higher than 5000 L ) to be h = 146 ± 15 pc, while from a sample of older objects (luminosities lower than 5000 L ) it is h = 568 ± 42 pc. We have produced a list of 147 nebulae in which there are only the line-of-sight velocities for 55 nebulae, only the proper motions for 25 nebulae, and both line-of-sight velocities and proper motions for 67 nebulae. Based on this kinematic sample, we have estimated the Galactic rotation parameters and the residual velocity dispersions of protoplanetary nebulae as a function of their age. We have established that there is a good correlation between the kinematic properties of nebulae and their separation in luminosity proposed by Vickers. Most of the nebulae are shown to be involved in the Galactic rotation, with the circular rotation velocity at the solar distance being V 0 = 227 ± 23 km s?1. The following principal semiaxes of the residual velocity dispersion ellipsoid have been found: (σ1, σ2, σ3) = (47, 41, 29) km s?1 from a sample of young protoplanetary nebulae (with luminosities higher than 5000 L ), (σ1, σ2, σ3) = (50, 38, 28) km s?1 from a sample of older protoplanetary nebulae (with luminosities of 4000 L or 3500 L ), and (σ1, σ2, σ3) = (91, 49, 36) km s?1 from a sample of halo nebulae (with luminosities of 1700 L ).  相似文献

The optical spectra of the seven late-type Wolf-Rayet central stars NGC-40 (PNG 120.0+09.8, subtype [WC8]), He 2-99 (PNG 309.0–04.2, [WC9]), BD+30°3639 (PN G 064.7+05.0, [WC9]), CPD-56°8032 (PNG 332.9–09.9, [WC11]), He2-113 (PNG 321.0+03.9, [WC11]), M4-18 (PNG 146.7+07.6, [WC11]) and K2-16 (PNG 352.9+11.4, [WC11]) are analyzed by means of spherically expanding model atmospheres. The NLTE simulations account for the elements hydrogen, helium, carbon and oxygen. As main results effective temperature, element abundances and final velocity of the wind are determined for each star. Assuming distances or luminosities for the objects, also the stellar radii and the mass-loss rates can be fixed. The results of these analyses establish empirical constraints for the evolutionary status of WC-type central stars as post-AGB objects and provide input for modeling their planetary nebulae.  相似文献

We have investigated the spatial orientation of one-sided Planetary Nebulae. Most of them if not all are interacting with the interstellar medium. Seventy percent of the nebulae in our sample have inclination angles larger than 45° to the galactic plane and 30% of the inclination angles are less than 45°. Most of the selected objects are old, evolved planetary nebulae with large dimensions, and not far away from the galactic plane. Seventy-five percent of the objects are within 160 pc from the galactic plane. The enhanced concavity arc can be explained physically as a result of the `planetary nebulae – interstellar matter' interaction. There are about 50 galactic planetary nebulae know to have [WR] type nuclei. We have compared their nebular properties with those of the other planetary nebulae in the Galaxy. We have found that the nebular morphological types are similarly distributed in the two groups. Bipolar nebulae constitute only 20% of the total in each group. The distribution of the nebular electron densities and abundance ratios N/O, He/H and C/O are the same in the two groups. The only marked difference is that nebular expansion velocities are larger in the group of planetary nebulae with [WR] central stars. We argue that the WR phenomenon does not preferentially occur in more massive central stars of planetary nebulae, contrary to what has been suggested in some former studies. The ring nebulae associated with galactic Of stars is considered on the grounds of the list of Of nebulae proposed by lozinskaya and Lomovsky (1982). Taking into account the selection effects, about 80% of Of stars are shown to be associated withHii regions and about 30–50% of these regions have shell structures. Four types of nebulae associated with Of stars are resolved: amorphousHii regions, ring-likeHii regions, wind-blown bubbles, and stellar ejectas. These types appear to be identical to the morphology of nebulae around WR stars proposed by Chu (1981). Observational data are presented and the nature of a number of Of ring nebulae of different types is discussed.  相似文献

Symbiotic systems, in particular symbiotic novae, have been suggested to be very early stages of planetary nebulae. Some of them have been described as going through a Wolf-Rayet phase. We argue that there may be a direct relation between symbiotic objects and planetary nebulae, and that the Wolf-Rayet phase is connected to an active spell of the hot companion. Symbiotic stars could lead to planetary nebulae with two central stars with different radiation temperatures and luminosities, where each has the power to ionize a planetary nebula on its own.  相似文献

The sizes of planetary nebulae are poorly known, principally because the distances to these sources are not very well established. We point out in the following, however, that if one is careful in selecting nebulae having particular ranges of galactic latitude, and narrow ranges of surface brightness, then it should be possible to establish mean trends in nebular diameter. We have, in this way, been able to determine that where brightness temperatures are the same, then circular and elliptical sources, and the nuclei of bipolar nebulae (BPNe) all have closely similar mean dimensions. It is also likely that circular and elliptical sources have closely similar masses (the case of the BPNe is less clear). Finally, we note that halos are typically ∼3 times larger than circular and elliptical PNe, and the lobes of BPNe are ∼5 times as large, making the latter envelopes the largest of all nebular structures. Ring nebulae are known to form around stars like the Wolf-Rayet and the Of stars. The dust in these nebulae is heated by the central star and, therefore, provides a positive clue to the origin of the nebulae, complementing the optical techniques. A systematic search has been carried out to study the infra-red emission from these nebulae based on the IRAS data. The influence of the local interstellar material properties on the formation of nebular dust is studied.  相似文献

An object located approximately atl=8°,b=–4° with a mean radial velocity of –212.3 km s–1 has been observed in the 21 cm neutral hydrogen line. The mean weighted velocity dispersion is 11.2 km s–1 and the total mass is estimated to be 190R 2 (kpc) solar masses. We discuss possible interpretations of the origin and nature of this object. The most likely interpretation is that we observe an expanding object which has been ejected from the galactic nucleus.  相似文献

Some planetary nebulae in the galactic thick disk display extremely low abundances of heavy elements such as O, Ne, S, and Ar, compared with normal or type II nebulae. Their central stars are generally relatively cool and underluminous, indicating that the progenitor stars had very low masses. It is suggested that strong stellar winds have had an important role in the formation of these objects, which is supported by the large mass loss rates now observed.  相似文献

Abundances of He, N, O, and Ne are calculated for 29 faint planetary nebulae in the LMC and SMC from spectrophotometry obtained by Boroson and Liebert. When the results are combined with abundances from Aller and Czyzak's galactic planetary sample, the following conclusions are drawn: (1) O and Ne in planetaries remains generally unchanged throughout the evolution of the progenitor; (2) O and Ne abundances are indicators of progenitor metallicity; (3) Significant amounts of N are produced during evolution of intermediate mass stars, and (4) H production in intermediate mass stars over time can explain the current interstellar abundance of N in the LMC but not in the SMC.  相似文献

The determination of the luminosities of planetary nebula central stars from H nebular fluxes is investigated. A correlation is obtained with the luminosities derived from independent stellar parameters. An average scaling factor is determined for H luminosities of optically thick nebulae, as well as correlations of this parameter with the Zanstra He II and H I temperatures.  相似文献

We present the results of our optical identifications of a set of X-ray sources from the INTEGRAL and SWIFT all-sky surveys. The optical data have been obtained with the 1.5-m Russian-Turkish Telescope (RTT-150). Nine X-ray sources have been identified with active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Two of them are located in the nearby spiral galaxies MCG-01-05-047 and NGC 973 seen almost edge-on. One source, IGR J16562-3301, is probably a BL Lac object (blazar). The remaining AGNs are observed as the starlike nuclei of spiral galaxies whose spectra exhibit broad emission lines. The relation between the hard X-ray (17–60 keV) luminosity and the [O III] 5007 line luminosity, log L x/L [O III] ≈ 2.1, holds good for most of the AGNs detected in hard X rays. However, the luminosities of some AGNs deviate from this relation. The fraction of such objects can reach ~20%. In particular, the [O III] line flux is lower for two nearby edge-on spiral galaxies. This can be explained by the effect of absorption in the galactic disks.  相似文献

For complete information about the apparent distribution ofHii-regions along the whole galactic equator a Catalogue of 698 known emission nebulae is given on the basis of 13 lists and catalogues of these objects. The main catalogue used for the northern sky was that of Sharpless (1959) including 313 objects while the coverage of the southern sky can be characterized by a greater number of smaller catalogues represented in the first place by that of Rodgerset al. (1960) and that of Gum (1955). ForHii-regions, only optical data were taken into account.Where several authors describe the complex of nebulosities a more detailed specification of objects is preferred. The objects in the Catalogue are listed according to their right ascensions for 1950. As only three catalogues applied here give also the objects out of the belt ±15° around the galactic equator, the Catalogue is divided into two parts. The first (main) part contains 667 objects lying within this belt, the second contains 31 objects lying outside it. A Summary Table listing the objects from the two parts according to their galactic longitudes involving, in addition, the 50-yrs precession for every object is also added.An attempt was made not to repeat contingent errors present in the source-catalogues. The maps of the POSS were often used. Coincidences with SNR and planetaries were sought for independently of identifications given in the source-catalogues. We present Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 I -band imaging for a sample of nine hyperluminous infrared galaxies (HLIRGs) spanning a redshift range     . Three of the sample have morphologies showing evidence for interactions and six are quasi-stellar objects (QSOs). Host galaxies in the QSOs are detected reliably out to     . The detected QSO host galaxies have an elliptical morphology with scalelengths spanning     and absolute k -corrected magnitudes spanning     There is no clear correlation between the infrared (IR) power source and the optical morphology. None of the sources in the sample, including F15307+3252, shows any evidence for gravitational lensing. We infer that the IR luminosities are thus real. Based on these results, and previous studies of HLIRGs, we conclude that this class of object is broadly consistent with being a simple extrapolation of the ULIRG population to higher luminosities; ULIRGs being mainly violently interacting systems powered by starbursts and/or active galactic nuclei. Only a small number of sources, the infrared luminosities of which exceed 1013 L, are intrinsically less luminous objects that have been boosted by gravitational lensing.  相似文献
