Strontium isotopic evolution of the Phanerozoic seawater is an emerging research field of the material cycle in the Earth’s outer-spheres. It is greatly significant for the research of the environmental change on the Earth’s surface during the geological history. The researches of the strontium isotopic evolution of the Phanerozoic seawater have gone through three stages: The early stage, the accumulated stage, and the integrated stage. In the early stage, the primitive evaluation of the diagenetic alteration and the low precision of the analytical instruments resulted in most strontium isotope data without stratigraphic significance. Most researches were only at the initially exploratory stage. In the accumulated stage, the gradually mature evaluation of the diagenetic alteration and higher precision of the analytical instruments made ongoing progress in the researches, especially the establishment and development of the high-resolution strontium isotopic evolution curves of the Cenozoic seawater had spawned a new interdisciplinary branch: Strontium isotope stratigraphy. In the integrated stage, the accumulated high-quality strontium isotope data had been integrated into some strontium isotope database of Phanerozoic seawater. These databases are becoming one of the effective tools to solve the problems in the stratigraphy, petrology, ore deposit, hydrology, and other related applications. Currently, many problems still have not been satisfactorily resolved in the researches of the strontium isotopic evolution of the Phanerozoic seawater, such as the preservation differences of the original seawater information in a sample, the age of uncertainty of samples, lower dating accuracy of more ancient samples, the materials and stratigraphic questions of the Cambrian samples, trace rubidium contamination of samples, the isotope fractionation between 86Sr and 88Sr, the interlaboratory bias, the uncertainty of the data fitting, etc. These problems are the difficulties to possess more practicability and applicability of strontium isotope stratigraphy. Based on the summary of the research progress, we attempted to systematically summarize the stages and differences of the researches of strontium isotopic composition of Phanerozoic seawater at different periods. 简述了显生宙海水成分演化的特征、识别标志和成因解释模型以及存在的问题和今后研究的方向.不同时期海水的成分的差异,特别是海水的x(Mg)/x(Ca)值,导致了文石海、方解石海时期的碳酸盐沉积和早期成岩作用均存在差异,甚至影响了盆地深部成岩流体的特征.显生宙海生生物的演替和盛衰,特别是简单生物(如钙藻和海绵)和高产率生物(如造礁生物和碳酸盐沉积物主要生产者),明显体现了海水的x(Mg)/x(Ca)值周期性变化对海生生物的影响.这种影响也同样体现在古生代末期的生物大绝灭及随后的生物复苏样式上,在生物更替事件研究中应引起重视.因此,生物与环境的协同演化研究必须从地球系统科学的角度展开. 相似文献

Reach-Scale Cation Exchange Controls on Major Ion Chemistry of an Antarctic Glacial Meltwater Stream
McMurdo dry valleys of Antarctica represent the largest of the ice-free areas on the Antarctic continent, containing glaciers, meltwater streams, and closed basin lakes. Previous geochemical studies of dry valley streams and lakes have addressed chemical weathering reactions of hyporheic substrate and geochemical evolution of dry valley surface waters. We examine cation transport and exchange reactions during a stream tracer experiment in a dry valley glacial meltwater stream. The injection solution was composed of dissolved Li+, Na+, K+, and Cl-. Chloride behaved conservatively in this stream, but Li+, Na+, and K+ were reactive to varying degrees. Mass balance analysis indicates that relative to Cl-, Li+ and K+ were taken up in downstream transport and Na+ was released. Simulations of conservative and reactive (first-order uptake or generation) solute transport were made with the OTIS (one-dimensional solute transport with inflow and storage) model. Among the four experimental reaches of Green Creek, solute transport simulations reveal that Li+ was removed from stream water in all four reaches, K+ was released in two reaches, taken up in one reach, and Na+ was released in all four reaches. Hyporheic sediments appear to be variable with uptake of Li+ in two reaches, uptake of K+ in one reach, release of K+ in two reaches, and uptake of Na+ in one reach. Mass balances of the conservative and reactive simulations show that from 1.05 to 2.19 moles of Li+ was adsorbed per reach, but less than 0.3 moles of K+ and less than 0.9 moles of Na+ were released per reach. This suggests that either (1) exchange of another ion which was not analyzed in this experiment or (2) that both ion exchange and sorption control inorganic solute transport. The elevated cation concentrations introduced during the experiment are typical of initial flows in each flow season, which flush accumulated dry salts from the streambed. We propose that the bed sediments (which compose the hyporheic zone) modulate the flushing of these salts during initial flows each season, due to ion exchange and sorption reactions. 相似文献

This paper outlines a method used to make paleocontinental maps and outlines its limitations. 15 pairs of new Lambert equal-area paleocontinental maps are presented, drawn at 40 Ma intervals from the present-day back to 560 Ma (early Cambrian time).

Phanerozoic metallogenesis in Europe displays divergent characteristics which may be related to the variable nature of the
three great European Phanerozoic orogens: Caledonian, Variscan and Alpine. These reflect different geodynamic processes. The
Caledonian orogen resulted from the interaction of essentially oceanic with continental lithosphere, whilst the Variscan and
Alpine orogens evolved mainly from continent-continent collisions with the involvement of a series of smaller oceanic basins.
Each major stage of the orogenic processes is characterised by a typical metallogeny. The occurrence of subduction-related
processes in the Caledonian orogeny gave rise to extensive VHMS deposition with characteristic Zn:Cu ratio signatures. The
relative lack of abundance of metal-rich, Andean-type porphyry-type mineralisation remains unexplained, unless present erosional
levels have prevented the preservation of such deposits. Continent-continent collisions do not appear to result in extensive
mineralisation unless elevated heat flows result, possibly as a result of lithospheric delamination at the peak collisional
stage. The development of late stage and peri-orogenic sedimentary basins are characterised by extensive Pb-Zn-Ba-F mineralisation

A field study was undertaken on the Florida Bay side of Fiesta Key, Florida, to identify the chemical characteristics of a previously unexplored offshore groundwater system and to define the critical parameters affecting groundwater movement and interaction with sediment pore fluids and bedrock. Emphasis was placed on the upper 2 meters of bedrock, where groundwater recharge and discharge potentials are maximized, along a 100 meter transect extending from the island margin. Bedrock cores were used to describe Pleistocene depositional textures, and were sampled at discrete depths to determine the extent of water-rock interaction. Piezometers installed into each core hole were used to monitor surface and ground water tide levels, and for the systematic collection of water samples for a large suite of chemical determinations.Aqueous chemical data indicate that these groundwaters are marine in origin, anoxic, and moderately hypersaline (S = 36–40). Exchange of bedrock pore fluids with overlying Bay waters is restricted by a layer of Holocene sediment and a discontinuous soilstone crust formed at the modern bedrock surface. Groundwater chemistry near the sediment/bedrock interface is marked by elevated concentrations of total alkalinity and Ca2+, and by significant Mg2+ depletion. These waters likely acquired their unusual chemistry by mixing between deeper groundwaters and overlying, early diagenetically altered, sediment porewaters. High alkalinity and calcium concentrations presumably result from the combination of the effects of aerobic metabolism, carbonate dissolution, and sulfate reduction. Mg-depletion most likely resulted from the precipitation of Mg-calcite. These unusual chemistries disappear by 2 m depth in the groundwater system, where Ca2+ and Mg2+ concentrations are similar to those expected for seawater under slightly hypersaline conditions.The Pleistocene bedrock contains low Mg, Sr, F, and P concentrations relative to the overlying unconsolidated Holocene carbonate sediments. This is consistent with the diagenetic recrystallization processes that the bedrock has undergone. Hydraulic conditions favor the net recharge of Florida Bay seawater to the groundwater system, but there are insufficient tide data to identify cyclical water exchange rates or groundwater flow patterns. 相似文献

Dolomite (CaMg(CO3)2) is one of the common rock-forming minerals in many geological media, in particular in clayey layers that are currently considered as potential host formations for a deep radioactive waste disposal facility. Magnesium in solution is one of the elements known to potentially enhance the alteration of nuclear glasses. The alteration of borosilicate glasses with dolomite as a Mg-bearing mineral source was investigated for 8 months in batch tests at 90 °C. Glass composition effects were investigated through two compositions (SiBNaAlCaZrO and SiBNaAlZrO) differing in their Ca content. The Ca-rich glass alteration is slightly enhanced in the presence of dolomite compared to the alteration observed in pure water. This greater alteration is explained by the precipitation of Mg silicate phases on the dolomite and glass surfaces. In contrast, the Ca-free glass alteration decreases in the presence of dolomite compared to the alteration observed in pure water. This behavior is explained by Ca incorporation in the amorphous layer (formed during glass alteration) coming from dolomite dissolution. Calcium acts as a layer reorganizer and limits glass alteration by reducing the diffusion of reactive species through the altered layer. Modeling was performed using the GRAAL model implemented within the CHESS/HYTEC geochemical code to discriminate and interpret the mechanisms involved in glass/dolomite interactions. Magnesium released by dolomite dissolution reacts with silica provided by glass alteration to form Mg silicates. This reaction leads to a pH decrease. The main mechanism controlling glass alteration is the ability of dolomite to dissolve. During the experiment the quantities of secondary phases formed were very small, but for longer time scales, this mechanism could supply sufficient Mg in solution to form large amounts of Mg silicates and sustain glass alteration. The ability of the GRAAL model to reproduce the concentrations of elements in solution and solid phases regardless of the amount of dolomite and the glass composition strongly supports the basic modeling hypothesis. 相似文献

Estuaries are important subcomponents of the coastal ocean, but knowledge about the temporal and spatial variability of their carbonate chemistry, as well as their contribution to coastal and global carbon fluxes, are limited. In the present study, we measured the temporal and spatial variability of biogeochemical parameters in a saltmarsh estuary in Southern California, the San Dieguito Lagoon (SDL). We also estimated the flux of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and total organic carbon (TOC) to the adjacent coastal ocean over diel and seasonal timescales. The combined net flux of DIC and TOC (FDIC?+?TOC) to the ocean during outgoing tides ranged from ??1.8±0.5?×?103 to 9.5±0.7?×?103?mol C h?1 during baseline conditions. Based on these fluxes, a rough estimate of the net annual export of DIC and TOC totaled 10±4?×?106?mol C year?1. Following a major rain event (36 mm rain in 3 days), FDIC?+?TOC increased and reached values as high as 29.0 ±?0.7?×?103?mol C h?1. Assuming a hypothetical scenario of three similar storm events in a year, our annual net flux estimate more than doubled to 25 ±?4?×?106?mol C year?1. These findings highlight the importance of assessing coastal carbon fluxes on different timescales and incorporating event scale variations in these assessments. Furthermore, for most of the observations elevated levels of total alkalinity (TA) and pH were observed at the estuary mouth relative to the coastal ocean. This suggests that SDL partly buffers against acidification of adjacent coastal surface waters, although the spatial extent of this buffering is likely small. 相似文献

We investigated controls on the water chemistry of a South Ecuadorian cloud forest catchment which is partly pristine, and
partly converted to extensive pasture. From April 2007 to May 2008 water samples were taken weekly to biweekly at nine different
subcatchments, and were screened for differences in electric conductivity, pH, anion, as well as element composition. A principal
component analysis was conducted to reduce dimensionality of the data set and define major factors explaining variation in
the data. Three main factors were isolated by a subset of 10 elements (Ca2+, Ce, Gd, K+, Mg2+, Na+, Nd, Rb, Sr, Y), explaining around 90% of the data variation. Land-use was the major factor controlling and changing water
chemistry of the subcatchments. A second factor was associated with the concentration of rare earth elements in water, presumably
highlighting other anthropogenic influences such as gravel excavation or road construction. Around 12% of the variation was
explained by the third component, which was defined by the occurrence of Rb and K and represents the influence of vegetation
dynamics on element accumulation and wash-out. Comparison of base- and fast flow concentrations led to the assumption that
a significant portion of soil water from around 30 cm depth contributes to storm flow, as revealed by increased rare earth
element concentrations in fast flow samples. Our findings demonstrate the utility of multi-tracer principal component analysis
to study tropical headwater streams, and emphasize the need for effective land management in cloud forest catchments. 相似文献

以国家油气资源战略选区项目研究成果为基础,结合近年来该区积累的大量区域地质调查资料和已发表的数据,对东北及内蒙古东部地区早古生代以来的大地构造性质及其演化进行综合对比分析。东北地区晚古生代以来的构造演化以稳定的大陆地块为主体,而非两大板块间多岛洋演化形成的造山带。东北地区的各地块均具有前寒武纪—早前寒武纪、甚至是太古宙的古老基底,它们在早古生代早期(490~510Ma)同时遭受了区域变质作用和花岗质岩浆侵入。350~450Ma,各地块均处于相对稳定的构造环境,以普遍缺失这一时期的花岗质岩浆活动记录为标志。从早古生代晚期开始,东北及内蒙古东部地区至少已存在2个早古生代早期固结的微陆块,即额尔古纳—兴安微陆块和松嫩—佳木斯微陆块,这2个微陆块向北分别与俄罗斯境内的额尔古纳微陆块和布列亚微陆块相连。二者在早石炭世沿北北东向展布的开鲁—嫩江—黑河—诺拉—索霍提(Nora-Soukhotin)一线碰撞拼合,形成统一的东北亚晚古生代大陆板块。西拉沐伦河断裂西端被北北东向构造所截,向东延至开鲁—嫩江断裂,并没有延伸到松辽盆地内,说明西拉沐伦河断裂可能与开鲁—嫩江碰撞带的形成有关。从晚石炭世开始,东北亚大陆板块整体处于伸展构造背景,至少在中国境内具有北陆南海的构造-沉积古地理格局,早期发育以火山岩为主的断陷盆地,到中二叠世演化成一个规模巨大的海相沉积盆地。中生代以来,东北地区的构造体制转换及物质成分演化不仅仅是古亚洲洋构造域和西太平洋构造域叠加转换的结果,蒙古—鄂霍茨克构造域的演化对该区现今构造体制的形成也具有重要影响。地质和地球物理综合证据显示,大兴安岭北部的得尔布干断裂、内蒙古中部的贺根山断裂和黑龙江省东部的跃进山断裂可能并不是具有一定深度规模的构造分区断裂。东北地区的中、新生代盆地之下并非都是变质结晶基底,而是存在一个规模巨大的晚古生代海相沉积盆地。 相似文献

This paper is the conclusion of many years of study of Phanerozoic sedimentation over the area of the present continents (without Antarctica). The compilation of the schematic lithological-paleogeographical maps for each section of the Phanerozoic systems (except the Quaternary) is taken as a basis for these studies; Ronov calculated areas of distribution and volumes of different groups of sedimentary and volcanogenic rocks within platforms and geosynclines, as well as changes in a mean rate of accumulation and intensity of volcanic activity.The volume of geosynclinal sediments of the whole of the Phanerozoic is 457 · 106 km3. The volume of platformal sediments is 182 · 106 km3.Our data confirm a periodic character in changes in the area, volume and rate of accumulation of sedimentary and volcanic deposits, concurrent with tectonic periodicity; the Hercynian and Alpine cycles being the most pronounced, the Caledonian weaker and the Salairian (Sardian) and Kimmerian cycles weaker still. The high rates of sedimentation and the high general intensity of volcanism are characteristic of the initial parts of tectonic cycles. The major transgressions and the peaks of carbonate accumulation fall in their middle parts. The high rates of sedimentation and the increase of clastic sediments corresponds to their final parts.Side by side with this cyclic character, our data reveal a certain time trend in the Phanerozoic changes under review. This is a general reduction of sea-covered area within the present continents and an increase of volume of sediments and of mean rates of subsidence. Since the changes within platforms and geosynclines have the same trend, they are obviously controlled by global processes. The global rhythm exists in spite of obviously uncoordinated movements of separate major blocks of the lithosphere, in particular of continental platforms. There are large volumes of the Phanerozoic granitoid rocks in China and neighboring areas. In recent years, numerous new and precise U-Pb zircon ages have been published for these granitoids, and define many important magmatic events, such as ca. 500 Ma granitoid events in the West Junggar, Altai orogens in the NW China, and Qinling orogen in the central China. These ages accurately constrain the time of important Early Paleozoic, Late Paleozoic, Early Mesozoic and Late Mesozoic magmatic events of the northern, central, western, southern and eastern orogenic Mountains in China. There occur various types of granitoids in China, such as calc-alkaline granite, alkali granite, highly-fractionated granite, leucogranite, adakite, and rapakivi granite. Rapakivi granites are not only typical Proterozoic as in the North China Craton, but were also emplaced during Paleozoic and Mesozoic in the Kunlun-Qinling orogen, a part of the China Central Orogenic Belt (CCOB). Nd-Hf isotopic tracing and mapping show that granitoids in the southern Central Asian Orogenic Belt (CAOB) in China (or the Northern China Orogenic Belt) are characterized predominantly by juvenile sources. The juvenile crust in this orogenic domain accounts for over 50% by area, distinguishing it from other orogenic belts in the world, and those in central (e.g., Qinling), southwestern and eastern China. Based on a large amount of new age data, a preliminary granitoid and granitoid-tectonic maps of China have been preliminarily compiled, and an evolutionary framework of Phanerozoic granitoids in China and neighboring areas has been established from the view of assembly and breakup of continental blocks. A parameterization of experimental data in the 0·27·0GPa pressure range constrains both forward models of potentialprimary magma compositions that exit the melting regime in themantle and inverse models for computing the effects of olivinefractionation for any olivine-phyric lava suite. This is usedto infer the MgO contents of primary magmas from Gorgona, Hawaii,Baffin Island and West Greenland. They typically contain 1820%MgO for wide variations in assumed peridotite source compositions,but MgO can drop to 1417% for Fe-enriched sources, andincrease to 2426% for fractional melts from Gorgona.Primary magmas with 1820% MgO have potential temperaturesof 15201570°C. For Gorgona picrites with 24% MgO,the potential temperature and initial melting pressure wereabout 1700°C and 8·0 GPa, respectively; melting washot and deep, consistent with the plume model. There are importantrestrictions to magma mixing in mantle plumes. Primary magmasthat exit the melting regime are both well-mixed aggregate fractionalmelts and isolated fractional melts. The latter can originatefrom a hot plume axis and be in equilibrium with olivines havingmg-numbers of 93·093·6, but they have MgOcontents and thermal characteristics that are difficult to constrain. 中国南方的构造格架以众多造山带围绕扬子克拉通分布为特征。这些造山带分别形成于古生代(华南造山带)和中—新生代(秦岭-大别山造山带、松潘-甘孜造山带、三江造山带、右江造山带和沿海造山带)。在造山带中散布着保山地块和南海地块等微陆块。本文以扬子克拉通为中心,概述了中国南方显生宙构造古地理演化的主体面貌,并归纳了其对海相烃源岩堆积的制约关系,指出制约和影响中国南方古地理演化的几个主要的构造事件为:新元古代晚期至古生代早期的大陆裂谷和被动大陆边缘形成事件,古生代中期华南造山带形成演化事件,古生代晚期张裂事件,中生代古特提斯洋闭合造山事件,侏罗纪以来的太平洋板块俯冲事件,新生代印度板块与欧亚大陆的碰撞事件等。本文还指出,上述这些事件延续的时间有限,变形强度在空间上也有差异,对于油气成藏和晚期调整的影响也会因时因地而异。具体事物具体分析才能对研究中国南方油气分布规律有所帮助。 相似文献

Modern seawater has a uniform δ37Cl value (0.0‰), with an exception in the upper current of the Bosphorus (0.4‰). Marine halite ranging in age from Cambrian to Miocene has δ37Cl values of 0.0 ± 0.9‰, with most of the data in the range 0.0 ± 0.5‰. Mean δ37Cl values differ measurably between basins, with no evident relationship to basin size or to age. Smaller evaporite bodies have the largest δ37Cl ranges. Potash facies halite has mean δ37Cl values lower than those of halite facies salt in the East Siberia and Zechstein basins. The bulk δ37Cl of bedded halite preserving sedimentary textures cannot be shifted measurably after deposition under plausible natural conditions. During the Phanerozoic, a detectable change in the δ37Cl values of the oceans is unlikely as a result of Cl fluxes to and from the mantle and evaporites. In halite, the values of δ37Cl that cannot be explained by fractionation occurring on crystallization are best explained by the addition of non-marine Cl with δ37Cl ≠ 0.0‰ to evaporite brine. 相似文献

Marine carbonate precipitation occurs in three basic modes: abiotic (or quasi-abiotic), biotically induced, and biotically controlled. On a geologic scale, these precipitation modes combine to form three carbonate production systems, or "factories" in the benthic environment: (1) tropical shallow-water factory, dominated by biotically controlled (mainly photo-autotrophic) and abiotic precipitates; (2) cool-water factory, dominated by biotically controlled (mainly heterotrophic) precipitates; and (3) mud-mound factory, dominated by biotically induced (mainly microbial) and abiotic precipitates. Sediment accumulations of the factories differ in composition, geometry, and facies patterns, and some of these differences appear prominently in seismic data, thus facilitating subsurface prediction. The characteristic accumulation of the tropical factory is the flat-topped, often reef-rimmed platform. In cool-water systems, reefs in high-energy settings are scarce and hydrodynamic influence dominates, producing seaward-sloping shelves and deep-water sediment drifts often armored by skeletal framework. The typical accumulation of the mud-mound factory is groups of mounds in deeper water. Where the mud-mound factory expands into shallow water, it forms rimmed platforms similar to the tropical factory. The tropical factory is most productive; the mud-mound factory reaches 80–90%, and the cool-water factory 20–30% of the tropical growth rate. Low-pressure anatexis, whereby rocks melt in place after passing through the andalusite stability field, develops under more restricted conditions than does low-pressure metamorphism. Our thermal modelling and review of published work indicate that the following mechanisms, operating alone, may induce anatexis in typical pelitic rocks without inducing wholesale melting in the lower crust: (i) magmatic advection by pervasive flow; (ii) crustal-scale detachment faulting; and (iii) the presence of a high heat-producing layer. Of these, only magmatic advection by pervasive flow and crustal-scale detachment faulting have been shown quantitatively to provide sufficient heat to cause widespread melting. Combinations of the above mechanisms with pluton-scale magmatic advection, shear heating, removal of the lithospheric mantle, or with each other provide additional means of developing suitable high temperatures at shallow crustal levels to generate low-pressure anatexis. 相似文献
