The results of photoelectric observations of the Herbig Ae/Be star MWC 1080 in the Strömgren system are given. It was found that MWC 1080 undergoes rapid rises and falls in brightness with an amplitude of up to 0 m .25, occurring in a time interval of from several minutes to several hours. It is shown that MWC 1080 is similar to MWC 342 and MWC 419. It is suggested that there is a fundamental difference between the mechanisms of brightness variation of these three objects and of Herbig Ae/Be stars.  相似文献

UBV photoelectric observations of the W UMa-type binary V471 Cas were made from September to November 1984. Its colour indices were found to be(B-V)=0 . m 771±0 . m 02 and(U-B)=0 . m 196±0 . m 02. TheU, B, andV light curves of V471 Cas show some photometric fluctuations. We found that its orbital period is not 0.335998 days which was given by GCVS (1986), but 0.405356 days.Photometric orbital elements of V471 Cas were found using the Wilson-Devinney method. V471 Cas is a contact system, in which the overcontact factor is 0.19, its mass ratio of two components is 0.5947, and orbital minclination is in 83.29 degrees.  相似文献

A new sample of M51-type galaxies consisting of 46 systems is used to estimate the B-band luminosity function. The luminosity function for the primary components of the systems can be described by a Schechter function with the parameters * = (1.4±0.3)×10-5 Mpc-3, = -1.3+0.4 -0.3, and M * = -20.3+0.2 -0.1. The values of the latter two parameters are comparable to those for isolated galactic pairs. The resulting estimate of the average density of M51-type galaxies is (4±3)% of the average density of isolated pairs for luminosities in the range -22m.0<M<-16m.0  相似文献

We performed a complete wavelet analysis of Saturn’s C ring on 62 stellar occultation profiles. These profiles were obtained by Cassini’s Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph High Speed Photometer. We used a WWZ wavelet power transform to analyze them. With a co-adding process, we found evidence of 40 wavelike structures, 18 of which are reported here for the first time. Seventeen of these appear to be propagating waves (wavelength changing systematically with distance from Saturn). The longest new wavetrain in the C ring is a 52-km-long wave in a plateau at 86,397 km. We produced a complete map of resonances with external satellites and possible structures rotating with Saturn’s rotation period up to the eighth order, allowing us to associate a previously observed wave with the Atlas 2:1 inner Lindblad resonance (ILR) and newly detected waves with the Mimas 6:2 ILR and the Pandora 4:2 ILR. We derived surface mass densities and mass extinction coefficients, finding σ = 0.22(±0.03) g cm−2 for the Atlas 2:1 ILR, σ = 1.31(±0.20) g cm−2 for the Mimas 6:2 ILR, and σ = 1.42(±0.21) g cm−2 for the Pandora 4:2 ILR. We determined a range of mass extinction coefficients (κ = τ/σ) for the waves associated with resonances with κ = 0.13 (±0.03) to 0.28(±0.06) cm2 g−1, where τ is the optical depth. These values are higher than the reported values for the A ring (0.01-0.02 cm2 g−1) and the Cassini Division (0.07-0.12 cm2 g−1 from Colwell et al. (Colwell, J.E., Cooney, J.H., Esposito, L.W., Srem?evi?, M. [2009]. Icarus 200, 574-580)). We also note that the mass extinction coefficient is probably not constant across the C ring (in contrast to the A ring and the Cassini Division): it is systematically higher in the plateaus than elsewhere, suggesting smaller particles in the plateaus. We present the results of our analysis of these waves in the C ring and estimate the mass of the C ring to be between3.7(±0.9) × 1016 kg and 7.9(±2.0) × 1016 kg (equivalent to an icy satellite of radius between 28.0(±2.3) km and 36.2(±3.0) km with a density of 400 kg m−3, close to that of Pan or Atlas). Using the ring viscosity derived from the wave damping length, we also estimate the vertical thickness of the C ring between 1.9(±0.4) m and 5.6(±1.4) m, comparable to the vertical thickness of the Cassini Division.  相似文献

A chamber was constructed to simulate the boundary between the ice table, regolith and atmosphere of Mars and to examine fractionation between H2O and HDO during sublimation under realistic martian conditions of temperature and pressure. Thirteen experimental runs were conducted with regolith overlying the ice. The thickness and characteristic grain size of the regolith layer as well as the temperature of the underlying ice was varied. From these runs, values for the effective diffusivity, taking into account the effects of adsorption, of the regolith were derived. These effective diffusivities ranged from 1.8 × 10−4 m2 s−1 to 2.2 × 10−3 m2 s−1 for bare ice and from 2.4 × 10−11 m2 s−1 to 2.0 × 10−9 m2 s−1 with an adsorptive layer present. From these, latent heats of adsorption of 8.6 ± 2.6 kJ mol−1 and 9.3 ± 2.8 kJ mol−1 were derived at ice-surface temperatures above 223 ± 8 K and 96 ± 28 kJ mol−1 and 104 ± 31 kJ mol−1 respectively for H2O and HDO were derived at colder temperatures. For temperatures below 223 K, the effective diffusivity of HDO was found to be lower than the diffusivity of H2O by 40% on average, suggesting that the regolith was adsorptively fractionating the sublimating gas with a fractionation factor of 1.96 ± 0.74. Applying these values to Mars predicts that adsorbed water on the regolith is enriched in HDO compared to the atmosphere, particularly where the regolith is colder. Based on current observations, the D/H ratio of the regolith may be as high as 21 ± 8 times VSMOW at 12°S and LS = 357° if the regolith is hydrated primarily by the atmosphere, neglecting any hydration from subsurface ice.  相似文献

The results of photoelectricUBV observations of asteroid 77 Frigga during the 1982 opposition are presented. From eight nights of observations at phase angles smaller than 2 o . 8 a synodic period of 0 d . 3755±0 d . 0006 is derived. The light curve appears very symmetric with two maxima per period and an amplitude of 0 m . 19. The primary maximum corresponds toV(0o)=8 m . 58, and the colour indices are:B–V = 0 . m 738 ± 0 . m 003 andU–B = 0 . m 200 ± 0 . m 002.  相似文献

In order to obtain the substantial information about the surface physics and thermal property of the target asteroid (162173) 1999 JU3, which will be visited by Hayabusa 2 in a sample return mission, with the Advanced Thermal Physical Model (ATPM) we estimate the possible thermal inertia distribution over its surface, and infer the major material composition of its surface materials. In addition, the effective diameter and geometric albedo are derived to be Deff = 1.13 ± 0.03 km, pv = 0.042 ± 0.003, respectively, and the average thermal inertia is estimated to be about (300 ± 50) J m-2 s-0.5 K-1 According to the derived thermal inertia distribution, we infer that the major area on the surface of the target asteroid may be covered by loose materials, such as rock debris, sands, and so on, but few bare rocks may exist in a very small region. In this sense, the sample return mission of Hayabusa 2 is feasible, when it is performed successfully, it will certainly bring significant scientific information to the research of asteroids.  相似文献

The observed intensities of the diffuse interstellar absorption band at 4430 have minimum values, for given stellar distances, that are equivalent to the reddening caused by the small Ambarzumian-type clouds studied by B Strömgren. This indicates that there is no negative hydrogen present between these clouds, which are then identified with the hot H I phase of interstellar matter.The equilibrium density of H inside such clouds is calculated from mean densities of neutral hydrogen atoms and free electrons, derived from radio observations for the local region outside the large Orion-arm clouds. The filling factor of the small clouds is taken to be the same as that preserved in the structure of the Gum Nebula from before its ionization. An electron temperature of 3375 K corresponding to the local degree of ionization of the small-cloud hydrogen then leads to a mean density of negative hydrogen equal to 2×1013 cm–2 kpc–1, in agreement with the observed diffuseband intensities.  相似文献

The zero points of the period-luminosity relations for the classical cepheids are calibrated based on the HIPPARCOS parallaxes of these stars. The calibrations are used to determine the distance moduli of the LMC and SMC: DM LMC = 18m.569 ± 0m.117 and DM SMC = 19m.070 ± 0m.119, respectively. It turns out that a calibration of the PL relations based on the distances of 25 FU classical cepheids in the galaxy by Gieren et al. yields a distance scale that is shorter by approximately 0m.20 than the calibrations based on the HIPPARCOS parallaxes.  相似文献

New photometry for the eclipsing binary BE Cephei was performed from 2008 to 2011. The light-curve synthesis indicates that it is a marginal-contact binary with a mass ratio of q = 2.340(±0.009) and a degree of contact of f = 6.9%(±2.3%). From the O − C curve, it is discovered that the orbital period changes show a sinusoidal curve superimposed on a downward parabola. The period and semi-amplitude of the cyclic variation are Pmod = 59.26(±0.52) yr and A = 0.d0067(±0.d0010), which may be possibly attributed to light-time effect via the presence of an unseen third body. The long-term period decreases at a rate of dP/dt = −4.84(±0.31) × 10−8 d yr−1, which may result from mass transfer from the more massive component to the less massive one, accompanied by angular momentum loss. With the period decreasing, the degree of contact will increase. Finally, the marginal-contact binary BE Cep may be evolving into a deep-contact configuration.  相似文献

We present light curve solutions for the W UMa-type eclipsing binaries EP, EQ, ER, ES, and V369 Cep in the old open cluster NGC 188. Using light curve solution parameters combined with reasonable mass estimates, we determine the distance modulusV-M vof the cluster. Our aim is to examine if current uncertainties in the cluster's distance and age can be resolved. Three binaries yield distance moduli close to 10 . m 80 (±0 . m 08), two others give values around 11 . m 40(±0 . m 09). Depending on the amount of reddening, we find a weighted mean distance modulus for all five binaries between 11 . m 01 and 11 . m 05 (±0 . m 06), which lends modest support for the lower distance (1.65 kpc) and older age (10 Gyr) of the cluster.Participants in the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Florida International University, sponsored by the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

Multiple non-resonance fluorescence lines of water (H2O) were detected in Comet 153/P Ikeya-Zhang (2002 C1) between UT 2002 March 21.9 (Rh=0.51 AU) and April 13.9 (Rh=0.78 AU), using the Cryogenic Echelle Spectrometer (CSHELL) at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility. Analysis of 2.9-μm water lines enabled accurate determination of rotational temperatures on three dates. The derived H2O rotational temperatures were 138+6−5, 141+10−9, and 94±3 K on UT 2002 March 22.0, March 23.0, and April 13.8, respectively. Water production rates were retrieved from spectral lines measured in nineteen separate grating settings over seven observing periods. The derived heliocentric dependence of the water production rate was Q=(9.2±1.1)×1028[Rh(−3.21±0.26)] molecules s−1. The spatial distribution of H2O in the coma was consistent with its release directly from the nucleus (as a native source) on all dates.  相似文献

We discuss a collection of archival multi-colour photometric data of the variable WC9-type Wolf-Rayet star WR?103?=?HD?164270 observed over a time interval of eleven years. The photometric systems used are Walraven VBLUW, Bessel UBV and Strömgren uvby. The purpose is to search for periodicity and to disentangle continuum and line emission variations. The star turns out to be stochastically variable in all time intervals under consideration. The time scale of the variations hovers between a few hours to a few days. The continuum light amplitude varies from ~ 0.m1 in the visual to ~ 0.m2 in the UV. Emission-line variations at the level of 1–5 % percent are detectable in all pass bands, but are largest in the Strömgren b and Walraven V filters, due to the prominent presence of the Ciii emission lines (blended with a much weaker Oii line) at 4650 and 5696?Å?emission lines, respectively. The relative large light amplitude of WR?103 resembles that of WN8-type stars; a possible link between the two is discussed. Stellar (multi-mode) pulsations are likely the cause of the photometric variability. We also discuss the exceptional status of WR?103 within the class of WC9-type stars which are almost photometrically stable. A striking phenomenon observed for the first time in WR?103: a three days lasting flux enhancement of the Ciii line by at least 10 % was observed in August 1998. Such strong spectroscopic flare-like events are very seldom observed in WR stars. So far, the one of WR?103 had the longest duration ever observed.  相似文献

Near-infrared (∼0.7 to ∼2.5 μm) spectra of S-asteroids 138 Tolosa, 306 Unitas, 346 Hermentaria, and 480 Hansa suggest the presence of variable amounts of orthopyroxene ± clinopyroxene ± olivine ± plagioclase feldspar on the surfaces of these asteroids. The spectra of these asteroids were compared to laboratory mineral mixtures of orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, and olivine [Singer, R.B., 1981. J. Geophys. Res. 86 (B9), 7967-7982; Cloutis, E.A., 1985. Master's thesis]. The band parameters (band centers, band areas) were quantified and temperature-corrected [Moroz et al., 2000. Icarus 147, 79-93; Gaffey et al., 2002. In: Bottke Jr., W.F., Cellino, A., Paolicchi, P., Binzel, R.P. (Eds.), Asteroids III. The University of Arizona Press, Tucson, pp. 183-204]. Each S-asteroid in this paper exhibits an overall spectral shape with band parameters that are inconsistent with ordinary chondrite near-infrared spectra and their inferred mineral abundances and/or pyroxene chemistries. 138 Tolosa displays a complex spectrum with a broad ∼1 μm absorption feature that displays a double Band I minimum, a well-defined absorption at ∼1.3 μm, and a broad, but weak absorption in the ∼2 μm region. Although different interpretations exist, the Tolosa spectrum is most consistent with a ∼60/40 mixture of Type B clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene. Spectra of 306 Unitas suggest a surface with variable amounts of low-Ca pyroxene and olivine. Unitas is located in the S-(IV) and S-(VI) subtype regions in Gaffey et al. [1993. Icarus 106, 573-602]. 346 Hermentaria exhibits a complex, broad Band I absorption feature and a weak Band II feature, which suggests a ∼50/50 mixture of clinopyroxene and orthopyroxene. Hermentaria is classified as an S-(III). Spectra of 480 Hansa suggest a dominant low-Ca pyroxene component with lesser amounts of olivine. Based on these characterizations, these four S-asteroids should not be considered as potential ordinary chondrite parent bodies. Furthermore, these results suggest that these S-asteroids experienced at least partial melting temperatures [T?∼950 °C: Gaffey et al., 1993. Icarus 106, 573-602; Keil, K., 2000. Planet. Space Sci. 48, 887-903] during the formation epoch in the early Solar System. Continuing spectroscopic investigations will discern the relative abundance of chondritic and thermally-evolved objects among the S-type asteroids that have survived since the formation epoch ∼4.56 billion years ago.  相似文献

Polar brightness temperatures on Io are higher than expected for any passive surface heated by absorbed sunlight. This discrepancy implies large scale volcanic activity from which we derive a new component of Io's heat flow. We present a ‘Three Component’ thermal background, infrared emission model for Io that includes active polar regions. The widespread polar activity contributes an additional ∼0.6 W m−2 to Io's heat flow budget above the ∼2.5 W m−2 from thermal anomalies. Our estimate for Io's global average heat flow increases to ∼3±1 W m−2 and ∼1.3±0.4×1014 watts total.  相似文献

Coagulation models assume a higher sticking threshold for micrometer-sized ice particles than for micrometer-sized silicate particles. However, in contrast to silicates, laboratory investigations of the collision properties of micrometer-sized ice particles (in particular, of the most abundant H2O-ice) have not been conducted yet. Thus, we used two different experimental methods to produce micrometer-sized H2O-ice particles, i.e. by spraying H2O droplets into liquid nitrogen and by spraying H2O droplets into a cold nitrogen atmosphere. The mean particle radii of the ice particles produced with these experimental methods are (1.49 ± 0.79) μm and (1.45 ± 0.65) μm. Ice aggregates composed of the micrometer-sized ice particles are highly porous (volume filling factor: ? = 0.11 ± 0.01) or rather compact (volume filling factor: ? = 0.72 ± 0.04), depending on the method of production. Furthermore, the critical rolling friction force of FRoll,ice = (114.8 ± 23.8) × 10−10 N was measured for micrometer-sized ice particles, which exceeds the critical rolling friction force of micrometer-sized SiO2 particles . This result implies that the adhesive bonding between micrometer-sized ice particles is stronger than the bonding strength between SiO2 particles. An estimation of the specific surface energy of micrometer-sized ice particles, derived from the measured critical rolling friction forces and the surface energy of micrometer-sized SiO2 particles, results in γice = 0.190 J m−2.  相似文献

Strömgren uvby photometry has been observed for an additional 140 very metal-poor stars from the survey of Beers et al. (1992). These Galactic stars of very-low metallicity provide crucial information for the investigation of the formation and evolution of the Galaxy, as well as on the nature of the early Universe. The Strömgren uvby-β system allows the measurement of stellar atmospheric parameters as a prelude to detailed abundance studies which will make use of high-resolution spectroscopy and the new generation of large telescopes. The photometric techniques developed by Schuster et al. (1996) are used not only to classify these very metal-poor stars but also to derive effective temperatures, surface gravities, and improved estimates for their interstellar reddenings. In particular, photometric diagrams such as [c 1], [m 1] and c 0, (b-y)0 are used to classify these stars, especially those near the main-sequence turnoff, where contamination from slightly-evolved subgiants, lower surface-gravity horizontal-branch stars, and even a few supergiant or AGB candidates is found.  相似文献

Observational results are presented concerning the structure of the quasar 3C 196 and the radio galaxy 3C 280 at 20 and 25 MHz, obtained by the scintillation method with the URAN-1 interferometer. Angular dimensions of the scintillating components and extended regions of the sources have been evaluated. In the case of the quasar 3C 196, the effective angular size of the scintillating component equals 2±1 . 5 and that of the extended region 18×25.The contribution of the compact component into the total radiation flux is 0.46±0.20. Spectra of the structural formations in 3C 196 have been obtained in the range 20–5000 MHz.For the radio galaxy 3C 280 the effective angular size of the scintillating component equals 1 . 5±1 . 2. and that of the extended region exceeds 10 . The contribution into the total flux due to the scintillating part is 0.35±0.20.The data obtained are analyzed together with the results measured at higher frequencies. It is pointed out that in a wide frequency range, the effect of wave scattering in the interstellar medium does not exceed measurement errors,hence bringing about no increase in the compact component sizes of the sources observed.  相似文献
