Due to the continuous development and production of manufactured nanomaterials or nanoparticles (NPs), their uptake and effects in the aquatic biota represent a major concern. Estuarine and coastal environments are expected to represent the ultimate sink for NPs, where their chemical behavior (aggregation/agglomeration) and consequent fate may be critical in determining the biological impact.Bivalve mollusks are abundant from freshwater to marine ecosystems, where they are widely utilized in biomonitoring of environmental perturbations. As suspension-feeders, they have highly developed processes for cellular internalization of nano- and micro-scale particles (endo- and phagocytosis), integral to key physiological functions such as intra-cellular digestion and cellular immunity.Here we will summarise available information on the effects of different types of NPs in different bivalve species, in particular Mytilus spp. Data on the effects and modes of action of different NPs on mussel hemocytes in vitro demonstrate that cell-mediated immunity represents a significant target for NPs. Moreover, in vivo exposure to NPs indicates that, due to the physiological mechanisms involved in the feeding process, NP agglomerates/aggregates taken up by the gills are directed to the digestive gland, where intra-cellular uptake of nanosized materials induces lysosomal perturbations and oxidative stress. Overall, bivalves represent a particularly suitable model for investigating the effects and mechanisms of action underlying the potential toxicity of NPs in marine invertebrates.  相似文献

Nanoparticles may be introduced into aquatic environments during production processes and also as a result of release following their use in various commercial formulations and biologic applications. Filter-feeding bivalve mollusks such as oysters are valuable model species for characterizing nanoparticle bioavailability and interactions with basic cellular processes. The adults release their gametes into the environment, so their embryos and larvae are also likely targets of nanoparticles. The purpose of these studies was to characterize the toxicity of metal nanoparticles on embryonic development of oysters, Crassostrea virginica and to compare the relative sensitivity of embryos to adults. Newly-fertilized oyster embryos were exposed to silver nanoparticles (AgNP) and then the percent normal development after 48 h was assessed. Studies were conducted with adult oysters in which they were also exposed to AgNP for 48 h, and the effects on lysosomal destabilization were determined. The expression of metallothionein (MT) gene expression was also assessed in both embryos and adults. Adverse effects on embryonic development were observed at concentrations similar to those that caused both statistically and biologically significant effects on lysosomal destabilization of adults. Significant increases in MT mRNA levels were observed in both embryos and adult oysters, and MT levels were highly induced in embryos. While we do not know whether the toxicity and gene expression responses observed in this study were due to the nanoparticles themselves or the Ag ions that dissociated from the nanoparticles, these kinds of basic studies are essential for addressing the potential impacts of nanoengineered particles on fundamental cellular processes as well as aquatic organisms.  相似文献

It is widely thought that redox-active metals in cells such as iron or copper catalyze the reduction of hydrogen peroxide to toxic hydroxyl radicals or their equivalent. However, this has not been directly demonstrated in vivo. To probe this requirement, the freshwater microorganism Euglena gracilis was used. Its intracellular iron content can be modulated by the concentration of iron in the defined growth medium without effect on the proliferation rate of the cells. E. gracilis contains two large storage pools of cytosolic iron which can be monitored to assess cellular iron status. The toxicity of H2O2 in E. gracilis was inversely related to the amount of iron in the extracellular medium. At high levels of external iron, the metal carried out the Fenton reaction with H2O2 outside the cell, producing hydroxyl radicals as detected by electron-spin resonance spin-trapping experiments. This reaction reduced the amount of H2O2 that could diffuse into cells to cause toxicity. When cells with different intracellular iron content were placed in iron-deficient media, the the toxicity of H2O2, measured by inhibition of proliferation, was directly related to the concentration of internal iron. Using cells deficient in iron, this oxidant did not inhibit proliferation at low concentration but was somewhat effective at higher concentrations. Although the iron chelating agents, 1,10-phenanthroline and desferrioxamine, also depressed cytosolic iron, they were cytotoxic to E. gracilis and so could not be used unambiguously to examine the role of intracellular iron in the toxic effects of hydrogen peroxide.  相似文献

Nitroaromatic compounds frequently contaminate aquatic systems and may, therefore, impact fish. However, a known pathway of nitroaromatic toxicity in mammals, that of nitroaromatic stimulated superoxide (O2) production, has yet to be addressed in fish. In this study we investigated this pathway in three species of freshwater fish-channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus), largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) and rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri)-exposed to nitrofurantoin (NF), p-nitrobenzoic acid (PNBA) and m-dinitrobenzene (MDNB). Our results indicate that these nitroaromatics elicit a stimulation of O2 production by fish liver fractions. Additionally, results suggests a similarity between, fish and mammals in the nitroreductases which mediate nitroaromatic activation and subsequent O2 production. These findings indicate a potential toxic consequence of fish exposure to nitroaromatic contaminants in aquatic systems.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Increased temperatures and exposure to agricultural insecticides are increasingly threatening freshwater ecosystems worldwide. However, their combined effects are still poorly understood. We investigated the individual and interactive effects of water temperature and imidacloprid, the most widely used neonicotinoid insecticide, on larvae of two New Zealand mayflies, Deleatidium spp. and Coloburiscus humeralis. Ninety-six-hour bioassays with imidacloprid were performed at 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 and 24°C, in a full-factorial design. Mayfly survivorship and sub-lethal responses of impairment and moulting were recorded. We documented synergistically increased mayfly mortality and immobility with exposure to imidacloprid at higher temperatures, implying temperature-enhanced toxicity of imidacloprid. Survivorship of both mayflies was synergistically reduced by the combination of imidacloprid exposure and increasing temperatures. The same interaction also affected mobility of C. humeralis and moulting frequency of Deleatidium. Our findings suggest that developing a more thorough understanding of temperature-contaminant interactions may be important to allow better protection of aquatic ecosystems.  相似文献

We used stable C and N isotope ratios of tissues from 29 fish species from a large subtropical lagoon in southern Brazil to examine spatial variability in isotopic composition and vertical trophic structure across freshwater and estuarine habitats. Nitrogen isotope ratios indicated a smooth gradation in trophic positions among species, with most fishes occupying the secondary and tertiary consumer level. Fish assemblages showed a significant shift in their carbon isotopic signatures between freshwater and estuarine sites. Depleted carbon signatures (from −24.7‰ to −17.8‰) were found in freshwater, whereas more enriched signatures (from −19.1‰ to −12.3‰) were obtained within the estuarine zone downstream. Based on our survey of the C3 and C4 plants and isotopic values for phytoplankton and benthic microalgae reported for ecosystems elsewhere, we hypothesized that the observed δ13C differences in the fish assemblage between freshwater and estuarine sites is due to a shift from assimilating organic matter ultimately derived from C3 freshwater marsh vegetation and phytoplankton at the freshwater site (δ13C ranging from −25‰ to −19‰), to C4 salt-marsh (e.g. Spartina) and widgeon grass (Ruppia maritima), benthic microalgae and marine phytoplankton at the estuarine sites (from −18‰ to −12‰). Our results suggested that fish assemblages are generally supported by autochthonous primary production. Freshwater fishes that likely were displaced downstream into the estuary during periods of high freshwater discharge had depleted δ13C values that were characteristic of the upper lagoon. These results suggest that spatial foodweb subsidies can occur within the lagoon.  相似文献

铅(Pb)在海水中易产生沉淀,这将影响毒性实验中效应值的计算。本研究通过海水中不同重金属对中国广泛分布的底栖无脊椎动物双齿围沙蚕(Perinereis aibuhitensis)以及毒理学研究常用的海水模式生物卤虫(Artemiasalina)的急性毒性实验,对比分析了海水中Pb的生物毒性特点以及暴露溶液中Pb的析出对毒性实验结果的影响。用人工海水与天然海水配制Pb溶液时,理论浓度为18.7~1 200mg/L的Pb溶液中均出现大量白色沉淀。通过扫描电子显微镜能谱(SEM-EDS)对析出物进行检测,根据元素组成推测析出物主要为氯化铅与碳酸铅。对溶液浓度进行检测发现,Pb的实测浓度仅为理论浓度的1/15~1/2,根据实测浓度计算的Pb对双齿围沙蚕和卤虫的96h/48h半数致死浓度(LC50)值低于根据理论浓度计算值的1/10。对比Pb、Cu、Cd对双齿围沙蚕与卤虫的LC50值发现, Pb对水生生物的毒性低于Cu和Cd,且对不同生物的毒性效应存在差异。对比研究报道中Pb对海洋生物的急性毒性效应发现,Pb对幼体生物的毒性效应较显著,而在海水有效溶解...  相似文献

以壳聚糖和CuCl2·2H2O为原料,分别采用直接负载法和吸附法成功制备了壳聚糖/纳米铜复合微球,运用傅里叶变换红外光谱(FT-IR)、X-射线衍射(XDR)和扫描电镜(SEM)对催化剂结构进行了表征。以刚果红(CR)染料为目标污染物,评价了催化剂的制备方法、制备条件及氢转移催化反应条件对其催化性能的影响。结果表明,由直接负载法(CS/CuNPs)和吸附法(CS/CuNPs-X)制备的壳聚糖/纳米铜复合微球在CR染料浓度为100 mg/L,催化剂投加量为0.05 g,供氢体浓度为0.05 mol/L的氢转移催化反应条件下,催化反应进行180和60 min时CR脱色率可分别达95.8%和96.8%。CS/CuNPs-X比CS/CuNPs表现了更高的对CR氢转移催化反应的催化速率。两种催化剂催化还原CR染料的反应均符合准一级动力学模型。在连续循环使用10次后,CS/CuNPs和CS/CuNPs-X对CR的脱色率分别为93.9%和89.4%,表明催化剂具有良好的重复使用性能。  相似文献

基于室内物理模拟实验, 对长江沉积物进行淡水和海水环境下沉积物搬运过程碳释放通量实验模拟。结果表明, 模拟实验初期, 淡水和海水均为大气CO2的源, 但淡水CO2释放通量略高于海水;淡水、海水两种环境下, CH4释放通量均较小, 为弱释放-弱吸收过程。对两种环境下碳通量对比研究发现,Eh 值可能是造成淡水和海水环境下CO2通量差别的主要原因, 而pH 值可能对CO2通量差别的影响较小。两种环境下温室气体通量差别的具体原因仍需进一步研究。通过模拟对比试验, 旨在为系统地认识长江流域水库的温室效应与减排提供科学依据, 为我国清洁水电能源发展提供理论参考。  相似文献

The response of the aquatic macroinvertebrate communities to freshwater releases of different magnitude and persistence was investigated in two Mediterranean coastal lagoons (Ca l’Arana and Ricarda). The study was carried out during 14 months (June 2004–July 2005) in which different environmental variables and the macroinvertebrate communities associated with two different habitats, the Phragmites australis belt and the deep area of the lagoons, were sampled monthly. Additionally, potential colonizing sources were identified through the analysis of Chironomidae pupal exuviae. The initial response of the communities to the freshwater releases was similar, being characterized by a peak of opportunistic taxa (mainly Naididae), but the late response was different for each lagoon. In the Ca l’Arana, the magnitude of the freshwater release was higher (salinity dropped below five, which is the limit commonly established for most freshwater species) and its persistence was also higher, allowing the colonization of the lagoon by new insect taxa, which replaced the brackish water species. In the Ricarda, the salinity never dropped beyond five and pre-disturbance conditions were rapidly re-established. This, together with the acclimatizing mechanisms showed by the species Chironomus riparius and Hediste diversicolor, permitted the recovery of the pre-disturbance macroinvertebrate community.  相似文献

塑料的大量生产和使用导致其在自然界积累,并在各种环境因素作用下裂解,产生粒径小于5 mm的碎片和颗粒,即微塑料,全球的水生生态系统都发现有一定程度微塑料污染。各种水生动物,包括人类经常食用的鱼、虾和贝类等水产动物,都不可避免摄入微塑料,并通过食物链传递给人。微塑料中含有添加剂,其表面可以吸附周围环境的化学物质甚至微生物。动物和人摄入微塑料,可通过胃肠道转移到其他器官,给健康造成潜在危害,受到学术界越来越多的关注。作者从水产动物中的微塑料、人体暴露途径和潜在毒性3个方面,对水产食物链中的微塑料及其对人健康的潜在危险的研究进展做了简要概述。  相似文献

Abstract

The ultraviolet (UV) sensitivity of five species of freshwater zooplankton (three Cladocera, two Copepoda) were investigated. The animals were exposed to varying levels of UV‐radiation in a sunshine‐simulator and the UV doses for 10 and 50% mortality (LD10, LD50) were estimated using a dose‐response model. To place these doses in context they were compared with modelled clear‐sky surface UV irradiances in New Zealand. The cladocerans Daphnia carinata and Ceriodaphnia dubia were sensitive to levels of UVB irradiance of LD10 = 18–25 kJ m?2 and LD50 = 35–37 kJ m?2. These sensitivities are consistent with published values for other cladocera. In contrast a third cladoceran, Bosmina meridionalis, exhibited no higher mortality over the full range of the cumulative UVB‐doses used (3–40 kJ m?2) than controls receiving no UV exposure. The copepod Boeckella delicata showed the highest UV‐sensitivity of all organisms tested (LD10 = 7 kJ m?2, LD50 = 33 kJ m?2) whereas for Boeckella triarticulata, which was more heavily pigmented than B. delicata, no UV‐induced mortality was observed. Under natural conditions UV irradiances of up to 100 kJ m?2 day?1 can fall on the surface of New Zealand lakes. Although this is attenuated in natural waters, these data suggest that UVB irradiance may be a significant ecological variable to some zooplankton species.  相似文献

The increasing atmospheric CO2 concentration in the last few decades has resulted in a decrease in oceanic pH. In this study, we assessed the natural variability of pH in coastal waters off Goa, eastern Arabian Sea. pHT showed large variability (7.6–8.1) with low pH conditions during south-west monsoon (SWM), and the variability is found to be associated with upwelling rather than freshwater runoff. Considering that marine biota inhabiting dynamic coastal waters off Goa are exposed to such wide range of natural fluctuations of pH, an acidification experiment was carried out. We studied the impact of low pH on the local population of sea urchin Stomopneustes variolaris (Lamarck, 1816). Sea urchins were exposed for 210 days to three treatments of pHT: 7.96, 7.76 and 7.46. Our results showed that S. variolaris at pHT 7.96 and 7.76 were not affected, whereas the ones at pHT 7.46 showed adverse effects after 120 days and 50% mortality by 210 days. However, even after exposure to low pH for 210 days, 50% organisms survived. Under low pH conditions (pHT 7.46), the elemental composition of sea urchin spines exhibited deposition of excess Sr2+ as compared to Mg2+ ions. We conclude that although the sea urchins would be affected in future high CO2 waters, at present they are not at risk even during the south-west monsoon when low pH waters reside on the shelf.  相似文献

While there is already a comprehensive understanding of the effects of environmental variables, such as dissolved oxygen, temperature and salinity, on the structure, biomass and metabolism of aquatic biota in estuarine habitats, the effect of sedimentation, a harmful underlying factor, remains unclear. The aim of this study was to assess the differences in fish assemblages along the freshwater to salt water gradient of a large tropical estuary, and to evaluate the effects on them of habitat disturbance associated with shallow water sedimentation in the intertidal areas. Fish and environmental variables were recorded in the upper, middle and lower salinity zones of the estuary at ebb tide in both the dry and wet seasons. Sediment samples associated with different levels of habitat disturbance were analysed using granulometry, and their organic content and dissolved oxygen levels were quantified. Water temperature, salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen levels were also measured. Habitat disturbance was found to be correlated with the density, biomass and richness of fish assemblages. A total of 77 species were recorded, forming two distinct fish assemblages, with the Eleotridae family dominating in the upper zone, and Gerreidae, Gobiidae and Tetraodontidae the most common in the middle and lower estuary. Changes in the structure of fish assemblages, including reductions in density, biomass and richness, were associated with disturbance to natural features, where muddy sediment was replaced by sandy sediment and the quantity of organic matter fell. Atherinella brasiliensis was the species which showed a preference for the disturbed areas in the middle and lower zones, while Dormitator maculatus showed a preference for them in the upper estuary. They may be taken as indicators of habitat disturbance due to shallow sedimentation.  相似文献

水生野生保护动物是水生生态系统中的重要组成部分。文章利用CiteSpace文献可视化软件分析了Web of Science(WoS)核心数据库和中国知网(CNKI)全文数据库中2001—2020年水生野生保护动物相关的文献,对年度发文量、合作机构、国家合作和关键词聚类进行知识图谱分析。研究发现:近20年共发表外文文献634篇,发文量总体呈上升趋势,中文文献128篇,总体呈水平波动趋势;国外发文量最多的机构是美国鱼类及野生动植物管理局,研究机构间合作较为紧密,国内发文量最多的机构是青海省渔业环境监测站,研究机构间的合作分散;美国发文量占比为58.20%,与其他国家交流最为密切,中国发文量占比仅为3.31%,与国际合作关系不紧密;国外的研究热点主要是种群动态分布、栖息地利用和遗传多样性等,海洋与淡水物种均有研究;国内的研究热点主要是区域性保护措施,主要以淡水水生野生保护动物的研究为主,研究范围存在局限性。综合分析认为,我国应增进国内外研究机构间的交流与合作,重视海洋濒危水生野生动物的保护与研究,加强种群动态评估,开展国内对水生野生保护动物栖息地利用与遗传多样性分析的研究,从而实现水生野生保...  相似文献

为促使水生入侵植物的资源化利用以减少其对环境的危害,本文选取我国3种常见水生入侵植物,即水浮莲(Pistia stratiotes)、凤眼莲(Eichhornia crassipes)、空心莲子草(Alternanthera philoxeroides)作为研究对象,研究不同的植物化感作用方式(植物种植水抑藻、植物粗提物抑藻)对蛋白核小球藻(Chlorella pyrenoidosa)、梅尼小环藻(Cyclotella meneghiniana)、铜绿微囊藻(Microcystis aeruginosa)这3种常见水华微藻生长的抑制作用差异及其影响机理。结果表明,3种植物的种植水和粗提物均对不同微藻表现出选择性抑制作用,且种植水的抑藻效果总体强于粗提物。其中以空心莲子草种植水对铜绿微囊藻的抑制作用最强,共培养第7天藻细胞光密度OD750值下降78.19%,叶绿素a(chl a)含量下降96.61%。铜绿微囊藻在空心莲子草种植水影响下,藻细胞的呼吸速率先升高后降低,光合速率逐渐降低,超氧化物歧化酶(superoxide dismutase,SOD)、过氧化物酶(peroxidase,POD)、过氧化氢酶(catalase,CAT)等抗氧化酶的活性,以及蛋白质和膜脂过氧化产物丙二醛(malondialdehyde,MDA)的含量均呈现先升高后降低的趋势,由此可知铜绿微囊藻在共培养过程中受到了明显的胁迫和伤害。而在共培养第11天,实验组的胞外藻毒素含量较对照组仅增加8.69%,差异不显著(P0.05),说明空心莲子草种植水在有效抑制铜绿微囊藻生长的同时不会促进藻毒素的释放,具有较好的生态安全性。  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Handling methods are an important determinant of translocation success. In Aotearoa/New Zealand, tangata whenua traditionally used insulated kete to translocate aquatic animals to new environments as part of ahumoana tawhito (ancient aquaculture). In this study we investigated the influence of three transport methods (traditional [flax kete], modern [bucket], and a hybrid of the two [bucket with flax support structures]) on the short-term performance (burrowing speed) of kākahi (freshwater mussels). We also tested whether assisted release (planting kākahi in the substrate) resulted in enhanced burrowing speeds. Kākahi that were transported using the traditional method were slower to begin probing the substrate, but there was no difference in overall burrowing speed. We also found that assisted release resulted in faster burrowing speeds. We conclude that handling and release procedures can influence the short-term performance of translocated kākahi, and we recommend procedures for future translocation projects, including transporting animals in immersion vessels where practical, and planting them at the release site  相似文献

环烷酸是高酸原油的主要污染组分,对水生生态系统造成潜在威胁。在不同浓度环烷酸处理下对两种模式淡水微藻——莱茵衣藻(Chlamydomonas reinhardtii)和小球藻(Chlorella vulgaris)进行了96 h的连续培养,研究了环烷酸胁迫对两种淡水微藻种群及生理生化特征的影响,旨在为水生生态系统中环烷酸污染的生态风险预测与规避提供前瞻性的研究资料。研究结果表明,低浓度环烷酸(0.5~4 mg/L)会刺激淡水微藻的种群增长,而高浓度环烷酸(8~16 mg/L)会抑制淡水微藻的种群增长,造成急性毒性损伤。低浓度环烷酸处理下两种微藻叶绿素a含量上升,脂质积累,高浓度环烷酸处理下两种微藻叶绿素a含量下降而多糖含量上升,推测环烷酸剂量可能会影响淡水微藻能量存储方式。两种微藻在环烷酸胁迫下均会受到氧化损伤,造成活性氧(reactive oxygen species,ROS)含量上升,两种微藻抗氧化酶超氧化物歧化酶(superoxide dismutase,SOD)和过氧化氢酶(catalase,CAT)对环烷酸处理具有种属差异;高浓度环烷酸对淡水微藻的急性损伤具有时间效应,毒性随...  相似文献

Anodonta cygnea is a freshwater clam, belonging to the Unionidae family, which can be found in rivers and lagoons all over Europe and Northern America. As they appear as important case studies for ecological damage assessments, the various species of the Unionidae family have been submitted to a sort of recent studies on their chromosomal or cytogenetic status. In this study we confirmed the diploid chromosome number of 2n = 38 for this species, and established for the first time the karyotype, which comprised six metacentric, 12 submetacentric and one subtelocentric chromosome pairs. We also found a high percentage of cells with an abnormal number of chromosomes. Considering that karyotype disturbances in Unionids have been previously related with exposure to chemicals, either natural or produced by human activity, we determined the aneuploidy index for our population. The aneuploidy index is an excellent marker for pollutant presence/effect. The animals acclimatized in tap water and in natural water from the lake where the individuals were collected showed different levels of aneuploidy. The higher values were found in tap water. Chromosome analysis techniques seem a suitable tool to study the impact of contaminants referred above, and making A. cygnea a suitable organism for assessment of an eugenic damage in aquatic systems. On the other hand, our results also point out to the importance of doing the acclimatizing process of the collected animals in their own natural water.  相似文献
