An observational study of maps of the longitudinal component of the photospheric fields in flaring active regions leads to the following conclusions:
  1. The broad-wing Hα kernels characteristic of the impulsive phase of flares occur within 10″ of neutral lines encircling features of isolated magnetic polarity (‘satellite sunspots’).
  2. Photospheric field changes intimately associated with several importance 1 flares and one importance 2B flare are confined to satellite sunspots, which are small (10″ diam). They often correspond to spot pores in white-light photographs.
  3. The field at these features appears to strengthen in the half hour just before the flares. During the flares the growth is reversed, the field drops and then recovers to its previous level.
  4. The magnetic flux through flare-associated features changes by about 4 × 1019 Mx in a day. The features are the same as the ‘Structures Magnétiques Evolutives’ of Martres et al. (1968a).
  5. An upper limit of 1021 Mx is set for the total flux change through McMath Regions 10381 and 10385 as the result of the 2B flare of 24 October, 1969.
  6. Large spots in the regions investigated did not evince flux changes or large proper motions at flare time.
  7. The results are taken to imply that the initial instability of a flare occurs at a neutral point, but the magnetic energy lost cannot yet be related to the total energy of the subsequent flare.
  8. No unusual velocities are observed in the photosphere at flare time.

A great sunspot group of October 1991 (NOAA 6891 atL = 189,B = –10) was observed, in which an eruptive flare of importance (X2.5/31B) has been reported. A Caii-line 3933 filter was used, and during a time interval of 3 hours more than 90 frames were taken, using a CCD camera. The progress and the distribution in size of the two main flare points have been obtained; they covered an area of about 1800 millionths of the solar disk within a time interval of about 24 min. The average apparent horizontal velocity was 70 km s–1.  相似文献

Daily observations of Doppler line shifts made with very low spatial resolution (3) with the Stanford magnetograph have been used to study the equatorial rotation rate, limb effect on the disk, and the mean meridonial circulation. The equatorial rotation rate was found to be approximately constant over the interval May 1976–January 1977 and to have the value 2.82 rad s–1 (1.96 km s–1). This average compares favorably with the results of Howard (1977) of 2.83 rad s–1 for the same time period. The RMS deviation of the daily measurements about the mean value was 1% of the rate (20 m s–1), much smaller than the fluctuations reported by Howard and Harvey (1970) of several per cent. These 1% fluctuations are uncorrelated from day-to-day and may be due to instrumental problems. The limb effect on the disk was studied in equatorial scans (after suppressing solar rotation). A redshift at the center of the disk relative to a position 0.60R from the center of 30 m s–1 was found for the line Fe i 5250 Å. Central meridian scans were used (after correcting for the limb effect defined in the equatorial scans) to search for the component of mean meridonial circulation symmetric across the equator. A signal is found consistent with a polewards flow of 20 m s–1 approximately constant over the latitude range 10–50°. Models of the solar differential rotation driven by an axisymmetric meridonial circulation and an anisotropic eddy viscosity (Kippenhahn, 1963; Cocke, 1967; Köhler, 1970) predict an equatorwards flow at the surface. However, giant cell convection models (Gilman, 1972, 1976, 1977) predict a mean polewards flow (at the surface). The poleward-directed meridonial flow is created as a by-product of the giant cell convection and tends to limit the differential rotation. The observation of a poleward-directed meridonial circulation lends strong support to the giant cell models over the anisotropic eddy viscosity models.Now at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Tucson, Ariz., U.S.A.  相似文献

We studied the size, correlation lifetime and horizontal velocity amplitude of supergranules in regions with different magnetic activity. We found that the supergranule velocity cells have similar scale, correlation lifetime and horizontal velocity amplitude in the unipolar enhanced magnetic network regions and in the mixed-polarity quiet Sun. However, the correlation lifetime of magnetic structure is much longer in the enhanced network. We investigated the velocity pattern of moving magnetic features (MMF) surrounding a decaying sunspot. The velocity of MMFs is consistent with the outflow surrounding the sunspot as measured by Dopplergrams. The velocity cell surrounding the sunspot has a much larger velocity amplitude and a longer lifetime than regular supergranule cells. We found that ephemeral regions (ER) have a slight tendency to emerge at or near boundaries of supergranules. Almost all the magnetic flux disappears at the supergranule boundaries. In most cases, two poles of cancelling features with opposite magnetic polarities approach along the boundaries of supergranules.  相似文献

A method is described for constructing artificial data that realistically simulate photospheric velocity fields. The velocity fields include rotation, differential rotation, meridional circulation, giant cell convection, supergranulation, convective limb shift, p-mode oscillations, and observer motion. Data constructed by this method can be used for testing algorithms designed to extract and analyze these velocity fields in real Doppler velocity data.  相似文献

We have observed about 15 active regions on the Sun, with the Advanced Stokes Polarimeter and Dick Dunn Telescope at NSO/SP to map the Stokes parameters in the photospheric Fe 6302.5 Å and chromospheric Mg I 5173 Å lines, during 1999‐2002. The observations are corrected for dark current, gain, instrumental polarization and cross‐talk using ASP pipeline. The wavelength calibration is carried out using the O2 telluric line 6302 Å which is also present in the observations. The photospheric and chromospheric longitudinal magnetograms are made from the Stokes V profiles, which were intercalibrated with the Kitt Peak magnetograms. The plasma motions are inferred from the line bisector measurements at different positions of the spectral line. In this paper we present the height dependence of Doppler velocity scatter plots of a sunspot in the photospheric Fe I 6302 Å line.  相似文献

By making line profile analyses of the Fe xiv 5303 coronal line, temporal variations of three fundamental quantities, the line intensity, the FWHM, and the Doppler velocity, have been investigated for an active region. The power spectrum shows that the line-of-sight Doppler velocity fluctuated periodically at two locations with a period of nearly 300 seconds, while no periodic oscillations were found in line intensity. As to the FWHM, some evidence of periodic fluctuations are recognized but in a less distinct manner.The Sacramento Peak Observatory is operated by the Associated Universities for Research in Astronomy Inc. by contact with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

AR6659是22周以来最重要的一个活动区,它爆发了22周最强大的高能事件。本文用云南天文台的光球、色球精细结构照片和北京天文台怀柔站的磁场速度场资料,分析了该活动区磁场速度场的二维位形和大耀斑期间的演化特征。本文分析的4个大耀斑均爆发在中性线附近的N极区磁场梯度大的地方及色球速度场的红移区。偏带观测也显示耀斑物质是向红端移动的。耀斑波沿横场传播在离本黑子群几万至十几万公里的地方激起感生耀斑,在原生耀斑与感生耀斑之间往往有耀斑环相连。此外,本文还从演化特征出发分析了耀斑爆发前活动区等离子体的宏观不稳定性。  相似文献

Using a newly developed Aerospace digital videomagnetograph, three solar active regions are studied as to their magnetic configurations and their flare productivity. These three regions have very different types of magnetic configurations and different types of flare productivity. We review previous theoretical and experimental research on flares and magnetic energy storage, and discuss various ways to observe magnetic energy release due to flares. Results for six subflares are presented. Five showed no measurable magnetic energy change and one result is questionable.We show three counterexamples to Zirin's (1972) contention that as a rule H plage brightness is proportional to magnetic field strength. Each of these three cases involved two plage regions of the same polarity and equal field strengths with one of the plages adjacent to a neutral line. In all three cases the plage region nearer the neutral line was much brighter.  相似文献

The solar X-ray observing satellite Yohkoh has discovered various new dynamic features in solar flares and corona, e.g., cusp-shaped flare loops, above-the-loop-top hard X-ray sources, X-ray plasmoid ejections from impulsive flares, transient brightenings (spatially resolved microflares), X-ray jets, large scale arcade formation associated with filament eruption or coronal mass ejections, and so on. It has soon become clear that many of these features are closely related to magnetic reconnection. We can now say that Yohkoh established (at least phenomenologically) the magnetic reconnection model of flares. In this paper, we review various evidence of magnetic reconnection in solar flares and corona, and present unified model of flares on the basis of these new Yohkoh observations. Photoelectric measurements of Doppler shifts of various Fraunhofer lines obtained with the Capri magnetograph were analysed. The height dependence of the supergranular and oscillatory motions, as well as the two dimensional structure of these velocity fields is investigated. The most interesting results are the following:
  1. The oscillatory and supergranular motions are still clearly present in very deep photospheric layers as detected e.g. by means of the Ci line at 5380.3 Å.
  2. Whereas the vertical motions (both of oscillation and supergranulation) increase with height, the horizontal component of the supergranular flow is found to be decreasing slightly.
  3. Aperiodic horizontal motions are observed in the photospheric layers, which are probably connected with the process of excitation of the oscillatory field.
  4. There is no simple way of describing the oscillatory field in terms of independently oscillating ‘cells’, since the two-dimensional pattern changes its appearance drastically already in a fraction of one oscillation period.
  5. The correlation obtained by previous observers between vertical stationary motions, the chromospheric network and magnetic fields in particular is confirmed.

Photoelectric records of the Doppler effect (DE) and longitudinal Zeeman effect (LZE) were obtained with the Capri magnetograph of the Fraunhofer Institut photoelectric, using the Fei line λ 5250.22. Each record consists of 65 scans repeated along the same line on the sun. The analysis of 16 records covering a total of 485 oscillating regions (period 300 sec) leads to the following results:

    The mean lifetime of the DE-oscillations outside active regions is 20 min and 32 min in the neighborhood of spotgroups. Discarding the weakest sporadic osculations, one obtains 27 min and 43 min respectively. The most frequent lifetime in both cases is 15 min.  相似文献

One dimensional magnetograph scans have been used to study the 5-min photospheric velocity oscillations and the supergranulation. The oscillations in wing brightness lead the oscillations in velocity by less than 90° in the photosphere, and about 90° in the chromosphere, suggesting that they are traveling waves at lower levels and standing waves at higher levels. Downward flows have been observed to be coincident with the chromospheric network confirming the hypothesis that material is flowing downward at supergranular boundaries.  相似文献

Lagrangian reconstruction of large-scale peculiar velocity fields can be strongly affected by observational biases. We develop a thorough analysis of these systematic effects by relying on specially selected mock catalogues. For the purpose of this paper, we use the Monge–Ampère–Kantorovitch (MAK) reconstruction method, although any other Lagrangian reconstruction method should be sensitive to the same problems. We extensively study the uncertainty in the mass-to-light assignment due to incompleteness (missing luminous mass tracers), and the poorly determined relation between mass and luminosity. The impact of redshift distortion corrections is analysed in the context of MAK and we check the importance of edge and finite-volume effects on the reconstructed velocities. Using three mock catalogues with different average densities, we also study the effect of cosmic variance. In particular, one of them presents the same global features as found in observational catalogues that extend to 80 h −1 Mpc scales. We give recipes, checked using the aforementioned mock catalogues, to handle these particular observational effects, after having introduced them into the mock catalogues so as to quantitatively mimic the most densely sampled currently available galaxy catalogue of the nearby Universe. Once biases have been taken care of, the typical resulting error in reconstructed velocities is typically about a quarter of the overall velocity dispersion, and without significant bias. We finally model our reconstruction errors to propose an improved Bayesian approach to measure Ωm in an unbiased way by comparing the reconstructed velocities to the measured ones in distance space, even though they may be plagued by large errors. We show that, in the context of observational data, it is possible to build a nearly unbiased estimator of Ωm using MAK reconstruction.  相似文献

In this paper we study the stability of an infinitely conducting, incompressible, inviscid infinite cylinder with non-parallel helical velocity and magnetic field.
