This paper presents a new CCD Bessell VRcIc light curves and photometric analysis of the newly discovered RS CVn type eclipsing binary star V1034 Her. The light curves were obtained at the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Observatory in 2006. Variations of the orbital period of the system were firstly studied. The (O − C) diagram with a low range of observing time of about 20 years shows an upward parabola, which indicates a secular increase in the orbital period of the system. The light curves are generally those of detached eclipsing binaries; however, there are large asymmetries between maxima. The VRcIc light curves were analysed with two different fitting procedures: Wilson–Devinney method supplemented with a Monte Carlo type algorithm and Information Limit Optimization Technique (ILOT). Our general results find V1034 Her. as a well detached system, in which the components are filling 65% of their Roche lobes. Light curve asymmetries of the system are explained in terms of large dark starspots on the primary component. The primary star shows a long-lived spot distribution with active longitudes in the same hemisphere.  相似文献

The diffuse far UV radiation ( 1350–1480 Å) observed in the sky region ofl II180°, 0°b II40° is analyzed in connection with the distributions of stars and dust grains as well as with optical properties of grains. Its intensity (starlight+scattered light) is about 6×10–7 erg cm–2 sec–1 sr–1 Å–1 in the direction ofb II0° andl II180°. The latitude dependence of the intensity is in approximate agreement with the plane parallel slab model of the galaxy with a reasonable set of parameters. The interstellar scattering gives an albedo close to unity and forward phase function of about 0.6, which are not inconsistent with the model of interstellar grains of Wickramasinghe. The upper limit of the extragalactic UV is 2×10–8 erg cm–2 sec–1 sr–1 Å–1 in the same region of wave-length.  相似文献

The analysis of the UBV photoelectric study of the short period RS CVn eclipsing binary, UV Psc, has suggested that the primary is a transit with e=27°,i=88 . o 5, andk=0.75. The spectral type and luminosity of the hotter component is estimated to be G4-6V and that of the cooler component to be K0-2V. Absolute dimensions for the components of UV Psc were derived by combining the present analysis with that of the spectroscopic analysis given by Popper.The out-of-eclipse observations have showed large amount of scatter and an investigation of this showed that hotter component could be an intrinscic variable. We have analyzed data on sunspot groups compiled during 1874–1981 and investigated the following: (i) dependence of the `initial' meridional motion (v ini()) of sunspot groups on the life span () of the groups in the range 2–12 days, (ii) dependence of the meridional motion (v(t)) of sunspot groups of life spans 10–12 days on the age (t) of the spot groups, and (iii) variations in the mean meridional motion of spot groups of life span 2–12 days during the solar cycle. In each of the latitude intervals 0°–10°, 10°–20° and 20°–30°, the values of both v ini() and v(t) often differ significantly from zero. In the latitude interval 20°–30°, the forms of v ini() and v(t) are largely systematic and mutually similar in both the north and south hemispheres. The form of v(t) suggests existence of periodic variation in the solar meridional motion with period of 4 days and amplitude 10–20 m s–1. Using the anchoring depths of magnetic structures for spot groups of different and testimated earlier, (Javaraiah and Gokhale, 1997), we suggest that the forms of v ini() and v(t) may represent radial variation of meridional flow in the Sun's convection zone, rather than temporal variation of the flow. The meridional flows (v e(t)) determined from the data during the last few days (i.e., age t: 10–12 days) of spot groups of life spans of 10–12 days are found to have magnitudes (10–20 m s–1) and directions (poleward) similar to the those of the surface meridional plasma flows determined from the Dopplergrams and magnetograms. The mean meridional velocity of sunspot groups living 2–12 days seems to vary during the solar cycle. The velocity is not significantly different from zero during the rising phase of the cycle and there is a suggestion of equatorward motion (a few m s–1at lower latitudes and 10 m s–1at higher latitudes) during the declining phase (last few years) of the cycle. The variation during the odd numbered cycles seems to anticorrelate with the variation during the even numbered cycles, suggesting existence of 22-year periodicity in the solar meridional flow. The amplitude of the anticorrelation seems to be depending on latitude and the cycle phase. In the latitude interval 20°–30° the `surface plasma meridional motion', v e(t), is found to be poleward during maximum years (v e(t) 20 m s–1at 4th year) and equatorward during ending years of the cycle (v e(t) –17 m s–1at 10th year).  相似文献

The period variations of TV Cassiopeiae between 1901 and 1977 are discussed in the light of the period change model proposed by Biermann and Hall. During each period decrease 4.0×10–6 M of mass is transferred from the secondary star to the primary. The average observable mass transfer rate is found to be 4.3×10–7 M yr–1. This average rate corresponds to the thermal time-scale of the mass-losing star.  相似文献

TheUBV photoelectric light curve of IW Per as an ellipsoidal variable was obtained and a number of spectrograms were taken with dispersion of 10 Å mm–1. New spectroscopic orbital elements are determined for this single-line spectroscopic binary to beK 1=99.3 km s–1, =0.2 km s–1,a sini=1.80R andf(m)=0.093m . From analysis of the light curve, the geometric ellipticity coefficient of the distorted components is determined to beZ=0.037.Applying the second-order theory of light variation due to distorted components (Kopal and Kitamura, 1968), the orbital inclination and fractional radius of the primary component can be deduced simultaneously to bei=63° andr 1=0.294. By takingm 1=2.0m for the mass of the primary component with spectral type A5Vm, the mass of the secondary can be also deduced to bem 2=1.08m , which would correspond to a G0-type if it is a Main-Sequence star. These elements indicate that the system is a non-eclipsing detached close binary.From intensity measurements of the lines Caii-K, Srii 4215 and Scii 4320 on twenty-eight good spectrograms taken at various phases, those intensities and the intensity ratio Sc/Sr are found to vary systematically with phase. From these variations the distribution of the local metallicity on the surface of the Am primary component is discussed in connection with the distribution of the local surface temperature.  相似文献

The basic physical picture of the Algol system is reviewed, and, using collected red and infrared observations, photometric curve fits are investigated by applying numerical quadratures to determine theoretical light curves appropriate to Roche model stars. The contact nature of Algol B appears to be confirmed, and effective temperatures of the three components areT A=11 400°,T B=5300°,T C=7600°. In terms of a Lambert's law approach to the reflection effect, the effective heat-albedo is required to be reduced from unity to one half; and it is also found that the averaged gravity-darkening coefficient is close to a value appropriate for a diffusion type of heat-transfer mechanism operating in sub-photospheric layers.  相似文献

The paper contains a model synthesizing the light curves of novae and novae-like stars, as well as of active close binaries (CB) in the phase of an intensive matter exchange between the components with accretion onto a white dwarf. The model considers the radial and azimuthal temperature distributions in the disk enabling a successful interpretation of asymmetrically deformed light curves characteristic for these systems. The analysis of the observed light curves is performed by using the inverse-problem method (Djuraevi, 1992b) adapted to this model. In the particular case the parameters for the dwarf-novaOY Car are estimated on the basis of the U and B observations (Woodet al., 1989).The synthetic light curves obtained through the inverse-problem solving, as a whole, fit the observations well which indicates that it is possible to estimate the system parameters on the basis of the model proposed here.The obtained results indicate a complex hot-spot structure approximated in the model with two components—a central part and a surrounding spot larger in size. The central hot-spot part (temperature about 10000 K is surrounded asymmetrically by the larger spot lower in temperature (about 7000 K). The radiation of the central hot spot is beamed forward by about 20°. The angular size of the hot-spot central part is about 5°, the centre longitude is 322°, whereas for the surrounding spot the size is about 33° and the longitude of the centre about 300°.For the mass ratio of the componentsq=0.102 one finds for the orbit inclination about 83°.8. The analysis shows that the disk radius is about 51% of the corresponding Roche lobe radius.Based on the U and B light curves the quiescent disk-edge temperature is estimated to about 5500 K (U), i.e. 4400 K (B). The disk-radial-temperature profile is much flatter than in the steady-state-approximation case. Beginning from the edge towards the disk centre the temperature slowly increases attaining about 7200 K (U), i.e. 5700 K (B) near the white dwarf. The differences in the solutions for the U and B light curves can be due to deviations in the disk radiation from the black-body approximation assumed in the present model. Expressed in the units of the distance between the component centres [D=1] the disk size is estimated to about 0.304 [D=1], its thickness to 0.014 [D=1], and the white-dwarf radius to about 0.02 [D=1]. The white-dwarf temperature is about 15000 K.The obtained results are in a relatively good agreement with the system parameters estimated earlier (Woodet al., 1989). This indicates that the proposed model of the system and the corresponding inverse-problem method briefly presented here are fully applicable to the analysis of active CB light curves in this evolutionary phase. Though the model given here includes a number of approximations, it enables an independent procedure in the observational-material analysis based on the light-curve synthesis and on the application of the inverse-problem method. Results obtained by applying such an independent method can also serve as a reasonable way in testing the solutions obtained by utilising the earlier approaches.  相似文献

A substantial concentration of galaxies towardl ii =320°,b ii =+7°, with a mean radial velocity of 4000 km s–1, has earlier been nicknamed the Great Attractor — it is a nearby supercluster of galaxies. Here, an attempt is made to detect an excess Faraday rotation measure that could be attributed to the magnetic field and thermal gas in the space between the galaxies inside the Great Attractor supercluster. Only an upper limit to the rotation measure, of at most 8 rad m–2, could be placed on the Great Attractor supercluster, implying in turn an upper limit on the supercluster magnetic field, of at most 0.1 microgauss (ordered component only).  相似文献

The light curves, obtained by the authors of the present paper during the period 1978–1992, of the chromospherically active binary system RT Lac were examined. The average (B–V) colour indices were obtained and corrected for the interstellar extinction. Spectroscopic studies indicate that the less massive component may be taken as G8. The light curve analysis indicates that the less massive, larger component fills its corresponding Roche lobe. Both photometric and spectroscopic observations compel one to draw a conclusion that circumstellar matter does exist around the binary system. A colour excess caused by this matter is found to be 0.278 for B–V colour at mid–secondary eclipse. On the basis of photometric colour indices alone, the components of RT Lac are classified as G3–4 and G8. If we use the observed radial velocities of the less massive subgiant star from Ca II emission lines and from other optical lines we find for the mass of the more massive component as 1.34–1.70 M. This mass range corresponds to the main sequence late F stars. The common envelope hypothesis and mass function and also blending of the spectral lines of more massive component point out that it should be at most a late F type main sequence star.  相似文献

A search for neutral hydrogen in the velocity range –300>V>–1000 km s–1 has been made in the zone around the galactic nucleus. Observations of 100 points reveal no neutral hydrogen at such high velocities, with brightness temperatures exceeding 0.25 K in the latitude range |b|<1°, and 0.20 K for |b|1°.  相似文献

The revised Mount Wilson synoptic magnetic data for the period September 1987 through March 1996 are used as the basis of numerical simulations of the evolution of both the northern and southern polar magnetic fields during the reversal and declining phases of cycle 22. The simulations are based on numerical solutions of the flux-transport equation which involve, as parameters, the maximum meridional flow speed, v 0, and the supergranule diffusivity, . By matching characteristics of the observed and simulated fields, such as the observed reversal times, the evolution of the net flux above 60 °, and the migration of the polar crown, empirical values of these parameters, i.e., v 0=11 m s–1,=600 km2 s–1, may be determined. Further, the observed decrease in the mean net flux above 60 ° during the late declining phase of cycle 22 can be simulated only by increasing the diffusivity to 900 km2 s–1. However, direct observations of the supergranule velocities yield values of the diffusivity of order 200 km2 s–1, and we show that the inclusion of a pattern of emerging bipoles in the simulations can increase the diffusion of these fields and that, together with a more realistic value of the diffusivity, it is possible to reproduce qualitatively the features of the observed polar field reversals.  相似文献

During the process of continuous post-crystallization cooling, the degree of phase transformation in pyroxenes (ordering and decomposition of solid solutions) is determined by the total cooling time and by cooling rates at individual stages; this degree can also be applied to the estimation of the sub-solidus cooling time of pyroxenes and of rocks, genetically associated with them (geochronometer). The degree of Fe2+-Mg order in distribution between theM 1 andM 2 sites observed in orthopyroxenes can be used as the criterion for the sub-solidus cooling rates of orthopyroxenes. A technique for approximate estimation of cooling time (rates) of orthopyroxenes in the 1000–500°C interval is suggested on the basis of an ion exchange reaction kinetic model, with the adoption of a few assumptions. X-ray structural analysis study revealed the character of the Fe2+-Mg intersite distribution in the M-511 and M-533 orthopyroxenes from the Luna-20 regolith; the obtainedK D values make 0.072(T e o ~ 460°C) and 0.06 (T e o ~ 480°C), respectively. The corresponding evaluation of the linear cooling rate in the 1000-500°C range, as inferred by the obtained data, gave the value of 0.2–0.25° h–1. Two features of the exosolution relate to the sub-solidus cooling rate of clinopyroxenes: the degree of phase separation by composition Wo and the exsolution scale . The monocrystal X-ray diffraction study, the transmission electron microscopy and the X-ray microprobe analysis produced the exsolution parameters for clinopyroxenes 2001-3, 2001-6 and 559 from the Luna-20 regolith: Wo 26%, 28% and 45% respectively; 300 Å, 1000 Å and 60 , respectively. The solvus temperatures (T e) of the clinopyroxenes 2001-3 and 2001-6 make, respectively, 1100 ± 25°C and 1095 ± 45°C; the spinodal temperatures (T s) areT s =T e – 50°C and represent quenching temperatures of the given pyroxenes in relation to the exsolution process. The cooling time fromT cryst. toT s was estimated and the value of the formal linear cooling rate was found to be ~ 90° h–1 (2001-3) and ~ 8° h–1 (2001-6). The average value of the pyroxene 559 sub-soldius cooling rate in the 1150–1000°C range was four orders less. The obtained data were discussed in view of the possible genesis of the studied Luna-20 pyroxenes.  相似文献

UBV light curves and spectrograms of R CMa obtained with the 48-inch telescope of Japal-Rangapur Observatory during 1980–82 have been used for deriving the eclipse and orbital elements as well as the absolute dimensions of the components. The primary is found to be a Main-Sequence F2V star of mass 1.52M and the secondary a subgiant star of spectral type G8 and mass 0.20M which fills its Roche lobe, in agreement with Kopal and Shapley (1956) results, Kopal (1959), or Sahade's (1963) results. From a consideration of the possible evolution of this system it is concluded that a large fraction of the original mass of the secondary is lost from the system. We report measurements of the sunspot rotation rate at high sunspot latitutdes for the years 1966–1968. Ten spots at ¦latitude¦ 28 deg were found in our Mees Solar Observatory H patrol records for this period that are suitable for such a study. On the average we find a sidereal rotation rate of 13.70 ± 0.07 deg day-1 at 31.05 ± 0.01 deg. This result is essentially the same as that obtained by Tang (1980) for the succeeding solar cycle, and significantly larger than Newton and Nunn's (1951) results for the 1934–1944 cycle. Taken together, the full set of measurements in this latitude regime yield a rotation rate in excellent agreement with the result =14°.377–2°.77 sin2, derived by Newton and Nunn from recurrent spots predominatly at lower latitudes throughout the six cycles from 1878–1944.Summer Research Assistant.  相似文献

Two sets of observations of the WR-eclipsing binary CV Ser were carried out in 1982 and 1983 in the standard photometric systemUBV. Since 1982, the depth of the atmospheric eclipse has changed and does not show in theV data obtained in 1983. There is significant intrinsic variability (0 . m 05) in the light curves of CV Ser over both sets of observations and it is suggested that this is due to the changing mass-loss rate from the envelope of the WC8 star on time-scales from days to months. The observed mass-loss rate can change the mass by some 10–5 M y–1. An orbital inclinationi=72±2° is obtained.  相似文献

Large-scale morphological waves with wavelengths of order 30° and amplitude=1/8 exist in several long Hi filaments in a 540 square degrees of sky aroundl=230°,b=+40°. The extent of the longest filament is greater than 72°, the limit set by the boundaries of the area surveyed. TheHi gas appears to be controlled by magnetic fields and the motion within flux tubes, determined by analysis of velocity along the filament axes, shows the presence of wave patterns with amplitude 5 to 6 km s–1 on an angular scale similar to that seen in the spatial structure projected on the sky.  相似文献

X Pictoris is an eclipsing binary with a period of 0d.8619. The analysis presented in this paper is based on previously unreduced observations inUBV made by Somerville in 1961–1962. Orbital elements are obtained using the Wood model. A consistent geometry is determined, and the mass-ratio is found to be about 0.6. Although the light curves of X Pic resemble those of a classical Algol-type binary, the system is shown to be detached with the primary component a normal Main-Sequence star and the secondary an undersize subgiant. There is some uncertainty as to the spectral classes of the components, but they almost certainly fall into the range A2V to F0V for the primary and G6IV to K2IV for the secondary. Although discovered in 1907, X Pic has been until now a virtually unknown binary, and this paper presents the first reliable ephemeris and definitive photometric analysis to be made of this system.  相似文献

From two sets of the spectroscopic observations covering a ten year period we have obtained 59 radial velocities of the chromospherically-active star HD 28591 = V492 Per. It is a G9III single-lined spectroscopic binary with a period of 21.2910 days and a circular orbit. Thev sini of 24.6 km s–1, results in a minimum radius 10.3R . We estimate a distance of 165 ± 40 pc and an orbital inclination of 65 ± 25 degrees. The secondary is probably a mid to late-type K dwarf. The star is brighter than the limiting magnitude of theBright Star Catalogue. The mean photometric and the orbital periods are identical within their uncertainties. Since the star fills a significant fraction of its Roche lobe, about 62%, the photometric light curve may be the result of starspots and a modest ellipticity effect.Visiting astronomer, Kitt Peak National Observatory, NOAO, operated by AURA, Inc., under contract with the NSF  相似文献
