Absorption lines of some actinides, namely, actinium (Z = 89), protactinium (91), neptunium (93), plutonium (94), americium (95), curium (96), berkelium (97), californium (98), and einsteinium (99), were identified in the spectrum of one of the most peculiar main-sequence stars HD 101065 (Przybylski’s star). In the identification we used a high-resolution spectrum (R = 80 000) acquired at the 8.2-m ESO telescope.  相似文献

Noteworthy are 3 HED meteorites (ALH 88102, Hammadah al Hamra (HaH) 059, and Monticello); 3 ureilites (HaH 064, HaH 126, and Dar al Gani (DaG) 084); 4 irons (Baygorria (IAB), Ste. Croix (IIIAB), Sargiin Gobi (IAB), and Tarahumara (IIE)); an unusual metal-rich meteorite (Vermillion); 8 carbonaceous chondrites (HaH 043 (C03), HaH 073 (C4), DaG 055 (C3) and 5 C03 chondrites (probably paired) from DaG); an R chondrite (DaG 013); and 6 unequilibrated ordinary chondrites (ALH 88105 (L3), Camel Donga 016 (L3), HaH 093 (LL3.9), HaH 096 (LL(L)3), Richfield (LL3.7), and Sarir Quattusah (LL(L)3)). Abstract— Meteoritical Bulletin, No. 81 lists 181 new meteorites. Noteworthy among these are a new lunar meteorite (Dar al Gani 262), four observed falls (Dong Ujimqin Qi, Galkiv, Mount Tazerzait, and Piplia Kalan), four irons (Albion, Great Sand Sea 003, Hot Springs, and Mont Dieu), two mesosiderites (Dong Ujimqin Qi and Lamont), an acapulcoite (FRO 95029), a eucrite (Piplia Kalan), two probably-paired ureilites (Dar al Gani 164 and 165), an R chondrite (Hammadah al Hamra 119), an ungrouped type-3 chondrite (Hammadah al Hamra 180), a highly unequilibrated ordinary chondrite (Wells, LL3.3), and a variety of carbonaceous and unequilibrated ordinary chondrites from Libya and Antarctica. We use chemical equilibrium calculations to model the speciation of alkalis and halogens in volcanic gases emitted on Io. The calculations cover wide temperature (500-2000 K) and pressure (10−6 to 10+1 bars) ranges, which overlap the nominal conditions at Pele (T=1760 K, P=0.01 bars). About 230 compounds of 11 elements (O, S, Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, F, Cl, Br, I) are considered. The elemental abundances for O, S, Na, K, and Cl are based upon observations. CI chondritic elemental abundances relative to sulfur are used for the other alkalis and halogens (as yet unobserved on Io). We predict the major alkali species in Pele-like volcanic gases and the percentage distribution of each alkali are LiCl (73%), LiF (27%); NaCl (81%), Na (16%), NaF (3%); KCl (91%), K (5%), KF (4%); RbCl (93%), Rb (4%), RbF (3%); CsCl (92%), CsF (6%), Cs (2%). Likewise the major halogen species and the percentage distribution of each halogen are NaF (88%), KF (10%), LiF (2%); NaCl (89%), KCl (11%); NaBr (89%), KBr (10%), Br (1%); NaI (61%), I (30%), KI (9%). We predict the major halogen condensates and their condensation temperatures at P=0.01 bar are NaF (1115 K), LiF (970 K); NaCl (1050 K), KCl (950 K); KBr (750 K), RbBr (730 K), CsBr (645 K); and solid I2 (200 K). We also model disequilibrium chemistry of the alkalis and halogens in the volcanic plume. Based on this work and our prior modeling for Na, K, and Cl in a volcanic plume, we predict the major loss processes for the alkali halide gases are photolysis and/or condensation onto grains. Their estimated photochemical lifetimes range from a few minutes for alkali iodides to a few hours for alkali fluorides. Condensation is apparently the only loss process for elemental iodine. On the basis of elemental abundances and photochemical lifetimes, we recommend searching for gaseous KCl, NaF, LiF, LiCl, RbF, RbCl, CsF, and CsCl around volcanic vents during eruptions. Based on abundance considerations and observations of brown dwarfs we also recommend a search of Io's extended atmosphere and the Io plasma torus for neutral and ionized Li, Cs, Rb, and F.  相似文献

Our polarimetric database contains six comets, C/1975 V1 (West), 16P/Brooks 2,C/1988 A1 (Liller), D/1996 Q1 (Tabur), C/1999 S4 (LINEAR), and C/2001 A2(LINEAR), which can be related to the group of split comets. Comets West, S4(LINEAR) and A2 (LINEAR) were observed during splitting. We compare thepolarimetric measurements of the dust particles in these comets, sometimes togetherwith available photometric and colorimetric data, with those in normal comets. Weconclude that there is no significant evidence for differences of polarization betweentidally split comets (e.g., Brooks 2), dissipating comets (e.g., Tabur), non-tidally splitcomets (e.g., West) and normal comets. The total disintegration of Comet S4 (LINEAR), however, did produce significant changes in the observed properties of dust.  相似文献

A high-resolution sunspot umbra spectrum recorded in National Solar Observatory, Kitt Peak in the visible and infrared wave number range 13, 600 – 25, 000cm−1 was taken in the present study for identifying the rotational lines of barium hydride (BaH) molecule. Number of chance coincidences was evaluated for the A 2Π1/2 – X 2Σ ((0,0), (1,1), (2,2), (1,0), (2,1)), A 2Π3/2 – X 2Σ ((0,0), (1,1), (2,2)), B 2Π1/2 – X 2Σ (0,0), B 2Π3/2 – X 2Σ (0,0), C 2Σ – X 2Σ ((1,1), (1,0), (2,2), (2,1), (3,2)) and D 2Σ – X 2Σ ((1,0), (2,0), (3,0), (4,0), (5,0), (8,0), (9,0)) band systems of BaH using line identification procedure. The obtained number of chance of coincidences was compared with I- parameter values. The highly resolved rotational lines were chosen to evaluate equivalent widths using triangle approximation method. The effective rotational temperatures were calculated for the bands (0,0), (1,1), (2,2) and (2,1) of A 2Π1/2 – X 2Σ, (0,0) (1,1) and (2,2) of A 2Π3/2 – X 2Σ, B 2Π1/2 – X 2Σ (0,0) and B 2Π3/2 – X 2Σ (0,0) of BaH molecule. The rotational temperature values calculated for these bands were found to be in the range 1185 – 3514 K. They were also compared with the already reported sunspot temperatures.  相似文献

The results of photometric observations of seven main-belt asteroids with moderate surface albedos are presented. New magnitude-phase dependences were obtained for these asteroids: 5 Astraea (down to a phase angle of 0.3°, S type), 75 Eurydike (0.1°, M), 77 Frigga (0.9°, M), 105 Artemis (0.3°, C), 119 Althaea (0.3°, S), 124 Alkeste (0.1°, S), and 201 Penelope (0.5°, M). The parameters of approximating functions and the amplitudes of the opposition effect of these asteroids were determined. The obtained data allowed us to improve values of the rotation periods for some of them: 5 Astraea (16.815±0.002 h), 105 Artemis (18.56±0.01 h), 119 Althaea (11.466±0.001 h), and 124 Alkeste (9.907±0.001 h).  相似文献

Lithium contents have been determined by neutron activation analysis in 54 meteorites distributed as: C (9), H (13), L (10), LL (3), E (2), achondrites (11), and stony irons (6). Among the undifferentiated meteorites Li contents range from 1 to 3 ppm. Li contents are higher in Ca-rich achondrites and mesosiderites than in Ca-poor achondrites and pallasites respectively. Among achondrites, Li correlates positively with Ca and Al and inversely with Mg. A minor Li-rich phase might be associated with the plagioclase component of achondrites. In several meteorites Li concentration is determined in magnetic and nonmagnetic fractions, chondrules, and light and dark components (for the gas-rich meteorites).  相似文献

Six meteorites have been found in Castro County, Texas and named after the town of Nazareth, but each of the four classified specimens has been given two different full names. To clarify this, we have classified the other two specimens and helped to establish approved names for all six specimens. The classes and names of the six specimens, which probably come from six separate falls, are as follows: Nazareth (a), L6; Nazareth (b), L6; Nazareth (c), H5; Nazareth (d), H5; Nazareth (e), H6; Nazareth (iron), IIIA.  相似文献

Abstract— Meteoritical Bulletin No. 83 lists information for 898 newly described meteorites. These include 473 from Antarctica, 341 from the Sahara, and 22 from dry lakes in the southwestern United States. Seven of the meteorites are falls: Kunya-Urgench (H5), Lohawat (howardite), Ourique (H4), Portales Valley (H6), San Pedro de Quiles (L6), Talampaya (eucrite), and Zag (H3-6). Also included are a dozen new iron meteorites; several mesosiderites; a pallasite; several HED meteorites; several ureilites; a variety of CM, CO, CV, CR, and R chondrites; and numerous unequilibrated ordinary chondrites. All shock classifications are after Stöffler et al. (1991) and weathering grades are after Wlotzka (1993), except as noted. The results of photometric observations of eight main-belt asteroids with low surface albedo are presented. The magnitude-phase dependences including low phase angles (<1 deg) have been obtained for Asteroids 76 Freia (down to phase angle 0.1 deg, P-type), 190 Ismene (0.3 deg, P-type), 303 Josephina (0.2 deg, C-type), 309 Fraternitas (0.1 deg, C-type), 313 Chaldaea (0.1 deg, C-type), 444 Gyptis (0.8 deg, P-type), 615 Roswitha (0.1 deg, C-type), and 954 Li (0.03 deg, FCX-type). The behavior of brightness in the range of opposition effect is found to be practically linear for 190 Ismene with amplitude of opposition effect only 0.03 mag. Amplitudes of the opposition effect for other asteroids are close to a mean for this type. The obtained data allowed us also to determine the rotation periods of asteroids: 303 Josephina (12.497±0.001 h), 309 Fraternitas (11.205±0.005 h), 615 Roswitha (4.422±0.001 h) and 954 Li (7.207±0.002 h). The color indexes B-V, V-R and R-I have been determined for some asteroids.  相似文献

We have analyzed a Late Holocene record, almost 5000 years long, consisting of varved sediments deposited in the oxygen-minimum zone (OMZ) off Pakistan. We searched for cyclicity in the series of varve thickness (“varve” cycles), of unusually large excursions in varve thickness (“agitation” cycles), and of abundance of turbidites (“turbidite” cycles). We found the following high-frequency cycles (periods between 10 and 100 years) in one or several of the three types of series as follows: near 12.4, 14–15, 16.8, 18.6 (strong, agitation), 25–26 (strong, turbidite), 29–31 (strong, agitation), 39 (varve), 44 (strong, turbidite), 51–54 (strong, agitation), 56 (strong, varve), 64 (strong, turbidite), 69, 77 (strong, turbidite), 82 (very strong, agitation), and 95 years (strong, varve). Low-frequency cycles center around 99–115, 125 (very strong, varve), 164, 177, 202, 242–255 (strong, agitation and turbidite), 280 (strong, varve; doubled, turbidite), 340–370 and 460–490 years.Some cycles of varve thickness match the cyclicity of turbidite frequency (12.3, 14–15, 25–26, 245–255 years) but similarities between spectra are not striking. Taken as a whole, however, the sequence of cycles detected (by autocorrelation and standard Fourier analysis) seems to contain a large proportion of multiples of the basic tidal cycles 4.425 (lunar perigee cycle) and 9.3 years (lunar half-nodal cycle). This impression is supported by testing the three binned spectra for whole-number multiples and fractions as well as whole-number beat structure. We therefore propose that a large proportion of the cyclicity detected can be ascribed to tidal action. Our record also contains evidence for the presence of the 1470-year cycle previously reported from the glacial-age Greenland ice record. The main harmonics of this Greenland cycle can be tied to the pattern of periods seen in the varved sediments. We hypothesize that tidal action produces the cycle, and that the reason for its great length is the requirement that maximum tidal activity has to fall into a narrow seasonal window to be geologically effective.  相似文献

Besides 161 ordinary chondrites, it lists 5 irons (Cotton, Hidden Valley, Miles, Tagounite, Tres Castillos), 2 ureilites (FRO90168, Hughes 009), 1 howardite (ALH 88135), 1 CV3 (Axtell), 1 CK4 (Sleeper Camp 006), and 2 enstatite chondrites (ALH 88070, Forrest 033). Abstract Melnikovo is a relatively unweathered 545.6-g LL6 chondrite that was found in 1983. Only a few poorly defined chondrules are discernable in the examined sections; two of these are enriched in chromite. The meteorite contains olivine (Fa27,8), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs24,4), plagioclase, rare clinopyroxene, chlorapatite, merrillite and opaque minerals, which have a modal abundance (in wt%) of troilite (3.9%), kamacite (0.4%), taenite plus tetrataenite (0.7%), chromite (0.8%), and trace amounts of ilmenite and Mn-ilmenite. The meteorite appears unbrecciated on a centimeter scale.  相似文献

The Boulder     
The external morphologies of Boulder 1, Station 2, and of the four samples taken from it by the Apollo 17 crew, are briefly described. The boulder is a polymict breccia, containing the following principal materials as clasts: gray competent breccias (GCBx), black competent breccias (BCBx), anorthositic breccias (AnBx), pigeonite basalt (PB), coarse norite (CN). Low-pressure continuous-flow laboratory simulations of plasma induced chemistry in H2/He/CH4/NH3 atmospheres show radiation yields of hydrocarbons and nitrogen-containing organic compounds that increase with decreasing pressure in the range 2-200 mbar. Major products of these experiments that have been observed in the Jovian atmosphere are acetylene (C2H2), ethylene (C2H4), ethane (C2H6), hydrogen cyanide (HCN), propane (C3H8), and propyne (C3H4). Major products that have not yet been observed on Jupiter include acetonitrile (CH3CN), methylamine (CH3NH2), propene (C3H6), butane (C4H10), and butene (C4H8). Various other saturated and unsaturated hydrocarbons, as well as other amines and nitriles, are present in these experiments as minor products. We place upper limits of 10(6)-10(9) molecules cm-2 sec-1 on production rates of the major species from auroral chemistry in the Jovian stratosphere, and calculate stratospheric mole fraction contributions. This work shows that auroral processes may account for 10-100% of the total abundances of most observed organic species in the polar regions. Our experiments are consistent with models of Jovian polar stratospheric aerosol haze formation from polymerization of acetylene by secondary ultraviolet processing.  相似文献

Nine twentieth-century ordinary chondrite falls from China are described and classified. They include: Nantong (H6), Zaoyang (H5), Zhaodong (L4), Qidong (L-LL5), Raoyang (L6), Sheyang (L6), Guangnan (L6), Suizhou (L6) and Nan Yang Pao (L6). Kamacite in Qidong is rare and contains much more Co (15 mg/g) than is characteristic of L-group chondrites; Qidong may be a member of a chondrite group intermediate in its properties between L and LL. Zhaodong, Qidong, Raoyang, Sheyang and Suizhou have several olivine and/or low-Ca pyroxene grains with aberrant Fel(Fe + Mg) ratios; it is probable that these five chondrites are fragmental breccias. The lack of correlation between shock facies and occurrence of aberrant silicate grains suggests that breccia lithification caused only minimal shock effects in many meteorites. Alternatively, postshock annealing may have resulted in the recrystallization of shock-indicating phases, leading to assignment of a shock facies that is lower than that present immediately after the shock event.  相似文献
