The seepage flow through a free boundary aquifer into a river / L'écoulement d'infiltration d'un aquifère a frontière libre vers une rivière

ABSTRACT

This paper presents a model of the groundwater flow into a river from an aquifer beneath the river. The mathematical problem is to solve Laplace's equation with a free boundary and the solution procedure uses a variational inequality which leads to an approximate solution using finite differences. The method can be used to provide for example, inflow conditions in river modelling calculations.
