The composition and formation of the Earth’s primitive continental crust and mantle differentiation are key issues to understand and reconstruct the geodynamic terrestrial evolution, especially during the Archean. However, the scarcity of exposure to these rocks, the complexity of lithological relationships, and the high degree of superimposed deformation, especially with long-lived magmatism, make it difficult to study ancient rocks. Despite this complexity, exposures of the Archean Mairi Gneiss Complex basement unit in the São Francisco Craton offer important information about the evolution of South America’s primitive crust. Therefore, here we present field relationships, LA-ICP-SFMS zircon U-Pb ages, and LA-ICP-MCMS Lu-Hf isotope data for the recently identified Eoarchean to Neoarchean gneisses of the Mairi Complex. The Complex is composed of massive and banded gneisses with mafic members ranging from dioritic to tonalitic, and felsic members ranging from TTG (Tonalite-Trondhjemite-Granodiorite) to granitic composition. Our new data point to several magmatic episodes in the formation of the Mairi Gneiss Complex: Eoarchean (ca. 3.65–3.60 Ga), early Paleoarchean (ca. 3.55–3.52 Ga), middle-late Paleoarchean (ca. 3.49–3.33 Ga) and Neoarchean (ca. 2.74–2.58 Ga), with no records of Mesoarchean rocks. Lu-Hf data unveiled a progressive evolution of mantle differentiation and crustal recycling over time. In the Eoarchean, rocks are probably formed by the interaction between the pre-existing crust and juvenile contribution from chondritic to weakly depleted mantle sources, whereas mantle depletion played a role in the Paleoarchean, followed by greater differentiation of the crust with thickening and recycling in the middle–late Paleoarchean. A different stage of crustal growth and recycling dominated the Neoarchean, probably owing to the thickening of the continental crust by collision, continental arc growth, and mantle differentiation.  相似文献

The Bikou volcanic terrane is predominated by subalkaline tholeiitic lavas. Rock samples display lower initial ratios of Sr and Nd, 0.701248-0.704413 and 0.511080-0.512341 respectively. 207Pb and 208Pb are significantly enriched in the lavas. Most samples have positive εNd, which indicates that the magma was derived from EM-type mantle source, while a few samples with negative εNd indicate that there was contamination in the magma evolution. Magma differentiation is demonstrated by variations of LREE and LILE from depletion to enrichment. Additionally, normalized REE patterns and trace elements showed that lavas from the Bikou volcanic terrane have similar characteristics to those of basalts in arc settings caused by subduction and collision. Analyses showed that the Bikou volcanic terrane is a volcanic arc. New evidence proved that the Hengdan Group, north of the Bikou arc, is a turbidite terrane filling a forearc basin. Consequently, the Bikou volcanic terrane and the Hengdan turbidite terrane const  相似文献

We investigated the meta-gabbronorites in Liangcheng and used detailed petrography, geochemistry, zircon geochronological and in-situ Hf isotopic studies to clarify their formation and metamorphic ages, petrogenesis, tectonic setting and provide constraints on the tectonic evolution of Khondalite Belt(KB). The zircon U-Pb dating results show that the meta-gabbronorites crystallized at ~1.94 Ga and were metamorphosed at ~1.91–1.89 Ga. They can be subdivided into the low-Mg and high-Mg groups. ABSTRACT

In many Precambrian provinces, the understanding about the tectonic history is restrained by the limited exposure of rocks so that aerogeophysical data can provide information below the surface cover of sediments, soil, and water to build a tectonic model of the region. However, the tectonic evolution of cratons and shear zones is very complex due to scarce aerogeophysical and geological data. The integrated observation of geology, aerogammaspectrometry, and aeromagnetometry of the Brazilian Shield, states of Santa Catarina, Paraná, and southern São Paulo, is enhanced by a 2011 high-resolution aerogeophysical survey. The Ponta Grossa and Florianópolis dike swarms show two sets of linear high magnetic signal. Peralkaline–carbonatitic complexes are observed in all images, e.g. Jacupiranga, Tunas, and Anitápolis. Three main geotectonic provinces are apparent in the shield. The Dom Feliciano Belt has two domains in terms of radioelements K, Th, and U. This belt includes granitic rocks of the Florianópolis Batholith, Brusque Group schists, and Itajaí Basin of sedimentary and volcanic rocks. The Luís Alves Craton has mostly the Santa Catarina Granulitic Complex and other gneisses. The craton has patches of high emission rates and extends to the northeastern extreme of the studied area with a high-contrast magnetic signal in most of the unit. The Ribeira Belt also has high in gammaspectrometric images, although less homogeneous than the Dom Feliciano Belt. This belt contains granitic complexes, gneisses, and schists and has a low magnetic signal with patches of high analytical signal amplitude. Shear zones delimit different geotectonic units, but are also significant in the Ribeira Belt. The Luís Alves Craton is the most complex unit, as seen in ternary K + eTh + eU images, requiring the future discrimination of small features. This novel study of the Brazilian Shield based on new geophysical data supports the classification of the proposed main geotectonic units.  相似文献

Clastic sedimentary rocks are natural samples of the exposed continental crust over large areas. The Hanjiang (汉江) River drains the northern Yangtze craton, including the South Qinling (秦岭) belt and the northern parts of the Yangtze craton. Detrital zircons from this river thus provide an ideal sample for studying the formation and evolution of the northern Yangtze craton. Here we report laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer U-Pb ages of 122 detrital zircons from one sand sample of the Hanjiang River. The 110 concordant zircons reveal four major age groups of 768,444,212,and 124 Ma,which well correlate with known magmatic events in the northern Yangtze craton. A minor group is present at 1 536 Ma,which is less known in the study area. Only seven zircons have ages of >1 750 Ma. Our results show that the Early Paleozoic,Late Triassic, and Early Cretaceous are important episodes of zircon growth and crustal growth/reworking in addition to the previously documented Neoproterozoic event. Our results suggest very limited exposures of Paleoproterozoic and Archean rocks in the northern parts of the Yangtze craton.  相似文献

Plutonic rocks from the Mineiro Belt, Brazil record a delayed onset of the transition from TTG to sanukitoid-type magmatism(high Ba-Sr), starting during the Siderian magmatic lull when little juvenile magma was added to the continental crust. Rocks mostly belong to the calc-alkaline series, meta-to peraluminous and originally "Ⅰ-type",meaning that oxidized magmas were formed by partial melting of subducted material. The temporal distribution and apparent secular changes of the magmas are consistent with the onset of subduction-driven plate tectonics due to an increase of the subduction angle and opening of the mantle wedge. New isotopic analyses(Sm-Nd whole rock and Lu-Hf in zircon)corroborate the restricted juvenile nature of the Mineiro Belt and confirm the genetic link between the Lagoa Dourada Suite,a rare ca. 2350 Ma high-Al tonalite-trondhjemite magmatic event, and the sanukitoid-type ca. 2130 Ma Alto Maranhao Suite. U-Pb dating of zircon and titanite constrain the crystallisation history of plutonic bodies; coupled with major and trace element analyses of the host rocks, they distinguish evolutionary trends in the Mineiro Belt. Several plutons in the region have ages close to 2130 Ma but are distinguished by the lower concentration of compatible elements in the juvenile high Ba-Sr suite.  相似文献

The Gurupi Belt (together with the São Luís cratonic fragment), in north-northeastern Brazil, has been described in previous studies that used extensive field geology, structural analysis, airborne geophysics, zircon U–Pb dating, and whole-rock Sm–Nd isotope and geochemical data as a polyphase orogenic belt, with the Rhyacian being the main period of crust formation. This was related to a 2240 Ma to 2140 Ma accretionary processes that produced juvenile crust, which has subsequently been reworked during a collisional event at 2100 ± 20 Ma, with little evidence of Archean crust. In this study, we use Lu–Hf isotopic data in zircon from granitoids (including gneiss) of variable magmatic series, and amphibolite to improve the knowledge of this scenario, and investigate additional evidence of recycling of Archean basement. Pre-collisional high Ba-Sr and ferroan granitoids and amphibolite formed in island arc (2180–2145 Ma), show only zircons with suprachondritic εHf values (ca. +1 to +8) indicating the large predominance of juvenile magmas. Only 10% of the data show slightly negative εHf values (0 to ?4), which have been observed in granodiorite-gneiss formed in continental arc (2170–2140 Ma), and in strongly peraluminous collisional granites (2125–2070 Ma), indicating the rework of older Paleoproterozoic to Archean components (HfTDM = 2.11–3.69 Ga). A two-component mixing model using both Hf and published Nd isotope data are in line with this interpretation and indicate more than 90% of juvenile material, and less influence of Archean materials. Comparing with other Rhyacian terranes that are interpreted to have been close to Gurupi in a pre-Columbia configuration (ca. 2.0 Ga), our results differ from those of SE-Guiana Shield, which show strong influence of Archean protoliths, and are very similar to those of the central-eastern portion of the Baoulé-Mossi Domain of the West African Craton, which has also been formed largely by juvenile magmas in an accretionary-collisional orogen.  相似文献

A provenance and stratigraphic study of the Neoproterozoic Pontas do Salso Complex (PSC), western portion of the Dom Feliciano Belt (DFB), was conducted with U–Pb zircon geochronological analysis of the metasediments and the host rocks. The U–Pb isotopic data from detrital zircon of the metasediments indicate the source from the latest Middle Tonian to Late Cryogenian (between 897 and 684 Ma) and maximum depositional age of 685 ± 18 Ma in an arc-related basin setting adjacent in the Sao Gabriel Arc. The metasediments of the PSC form an elongated body in the N35°E direction and occur in the central portion of the São Gabriel Terrane (SGT), which is constituted by ophiolitic complexes and arc-related rocks, generated probably during the final consolidation of Rodinia supercontinent, although this question is still open. Low- to medium-K calc-alkaline, metaluminous affinity, and trace-element geochemistry suggest that the chemical composition of the protoliths was generated from metasomatized mantle sources in subduction zones. The PSC is composed of meta-arkoses, with subordinate metaconglomerates and metapelites. The meta-arkoses are disposed in plane-parallel layers, which also internally feature small-scale cross-bedding structures. The matrix has a blastopsammitic, poorly selected, fine to coarse texture, and hexagonal quartz and plagioclase porphyroclasts with superimposed thermal metamorphism. The polymict metaconglomerates are matrix-supported, with 15–55% of clasts of metavolcanic rocks, metasediments, undeformed granites, and quartz veins. The metapelites comprise mainly muscovite phyllites with syn-tectonic garnet and chloritoid porphyroblasts. The PSC represents a sedimentary succession deposited on an arc-related basin formed during the collapse and uplift of the SGT.  相似文献

Among titanosaurs, osteoderms are morphologically diverse and have been reported from deposits in South America, Africa, Madagascar, Eurasia and Oceania. In Brazil, titanosaur osteoderms are rare and have only been recorded from Bauru Basin sedimentary rocks. Here, we describe a keeled titanosaur osteoderm, which is the first occurrence of an osteoderm specimen in the São Luís Basin, Northeastern Brazil. This osteoderm is characterized by an external bulb, an internal root, and a very rugose cingulum limiting the external and internal surfaces. These characteristics are typical of Titanosauria dermal bones, and this specimen strengthens the idea that the armored sauropods were present during the early Late Cretaceous of Northeastern Brazil, extending their distribution in the northernmost portion of South America.  相似文献

The southern São Francisco Craton, northeastern Brazil, consists of an Archean block surrounded by a Paleoproterozoic belt related to the Transamazonian Orogeny (ca. 2.0 Ga). A calc-alkaline plutonic arc developed within the belt and the granitoid plutons comprise two distinct groups. One group displays Archean TDM ages (3.07–2.62 Ga), εNd(t) values between −11.0 and −3.8 and high initial 87Sr/86Sr values, and it consists mainly of peraluminous granites. TDM ages for the other group are Paleoproterozoic (2.43–2.27 Ga), and εNd(t) values range between −2.8 and +1.3; the plutons are metaluminous tonalites (trondhjemites) to granodiorites. The Transamazonian granitoids can be related to contrasting source-regions, from mantle- to crust-derived ones. A number of them are probably derived from mixing of Paleoproterozoic juvenile material and variable proportions of Archean crust material. Magmatism related to deep faulting, during the compressional stages of the Transamazonian Orogeny, is a plausible model for granitoid generation. The contribution of mantle-derived material to the granitoid sources supports the idea that a significant episode of new crust formation occurred during the Transamazonian Orogeny.  相似文献

Sulfur mass-independent fractionation (S-MIF) preserved in Archean sedimentary pyrite is interpreted to reflect atmospheric chemistry. Small ranges in Δ33S that expanded into larger fractionations leading up to the Great Oxygenation Event (GOE; 2.45–2.2 Ga) are disproportionately represented by sequences from the Kaapvaal and Pilbara Cratons. These patterns of S-MIF attenuation and enhancement may differ from the timing and magnitude of minor sulfur isotope fractionations reported from other cratons, thus obscuring local for global sulfur cycling dynamics. By expanding the Δ33S record to include the relatively underrepresented São Francisco Craton in Brazil, we suggest that marine biogeochemistry affected S-MIF preservation prior to the GOE. In an early Neoarchean sequence (2763–2730 Ma) from the Rio das Velhas Greenstone Belt, we propose that low δ13Corg (<?30‰) and dampened Δ33S (0.4‰ to ?0.7‰) in banded iron formation reflect the marine diagenetic process of anaerobic methane oxidation. The overlying black shale (TOC up to 7.8%) with higher δ13Corg (?33.4‰ to ?19.2‰) and expanded Δ33S (2.3‰ ± 0.8‰), recorded oxidative sulfur cycling that resulted in enhance preservation of S-MIF input from atmospheric sources of elemental sulfur. The sequence culminates in a metasandstone, where concomitant changes to more uniform δ13Corg (?30‰ to ?25‰), potentially associated with the RuBisCO I enzyme, and near-zero Δ33S (?0.04‰ to 0.38‰) is mainly interpreted as evidence for local oxygen production. When placed in the context of other sequences worldwide, the Rio das Velhas helps differentiate the influences of global atmospheric chemistry and local marine diagenesis in Archean biogeochemical processes. Our data suggest that prokaryotic sulfur, iron, and methane cycles might have an underestimated role in pre-GOE sulfur minor isotope records.  相似文献

The geochemistry, geochronology, and isotope geochemical systematics (Nd, Sr, Hf, and Pb) of the granitoids of the Pozdnestanovoy complex of the Dzhugdzhur–Stanovoy superterrane of the Central Asia fold belt were investigated. It was shown that their age is Mesozoic (142–138 Ma) rather than Early Precambrian, as was previously supposed. The main sources of parental melts for these granitoids were the Neoarchean and Paleoproterozoic rocks of the lower continental crust of the Dzhugdzhur–Stanovoy superterrane and the rocks of the Late Paleozoic–Early Mesozoic continental crust of the Amur microplate. They were formed at depths of >40 km and temperatures of 700–800°C, most likely through the melting of mafic feldspar granulites under the conditions of aqueous fluid infiltration without any significant contribution from a juvenile heat source. The granitoids of the Pozdnestanovoy complex were emplaced during the closure of the eastern segment of the Mongolia–Okhotsk Ocean owing to the collision of the Siberian and Sino-Korean continents.  相似文献
